It's a renaissance au and i've read it once a month for the past however long it's been since i first read it. Years at this point, lmao. the line "red as sin and twice as pretty," how they wrote gamzee's voice, and the general imagery is implanted so deep into my brain you couldn't remove it without killing me. Gamzee and terezi definitely use their positions of power over karkat to bully him into sex but he enjoys it and it never truly crosses a line for me into non-con, but just thought i'd warn for that.

Sins of the Heatmate - another orphan_account :'( Quadrant confusion, karkat goes into heat and has no matesprit so gamzee helps him through it all the while struggling with his own flushed feeling for karkat. Very horny, another one where i love how they wrote gamzee's voice.

Preoccupation - tenguoni Very simple sweet human au story, gamzee confesses to karkat and he doesn't quite know how to react that. "If you're not preoccupied with that Dave motherfucker, I could be your preoccupation." is another line that just sort of wedged itself into my psyche.

The Sermon - leporicide (orphan_account) Gamzee as a reaper type figure and karkat can't die. there's ritual sacrifice and then they have sex where the ritual sacrifice happened. asphyxiation kink and idk how else to describe what happens other then a death kink. la petite mort, lets say.

Bark Like A God - Space_gays_that_arent_in_space Gamzee is a demon who preys on people at a bar, and then he meets karkat. They fuck. I enjoy the vibe and imagery, love gamzee worshipping karkat like he was a gift from the messiahs themselves.

holding my breath with a baseball bat - Anonymous Pale gamkar, from gamzee's perspective and a lot about how he feels for karkat. very bittersweet and makes my heart hurt.

Kelpie - thatsrightdollface Gamzee as a kelpie in his lake being lonely when he meets karkat. I really love the "inhuman predator falls for soft little human" thing if some of the others didn't make that clear enough, lmao.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: i mean besides "if you read homestuck without the slurs/poorly aged content you're not reading homestuck" i got nothin. Homestuck will always be dated as hell, that's why people read it nowadays (and. i guess peer pressure)

a lot of old homestuck misconceptions died out in 2012. most people are really reasonable on Tumblr in my experience so I'll rapidfire ramble here. sorry you get opinions plural

-> The way people treat June is insane. You're not gonna die if you admit she used to be a dude named John. Especially considering, y'know, June doesn't exist in the canon. Dove Strider has more basis than June and I don't even like that headcanon (<- FtM Striders FTW)

-> Cont. pls stahp making june like diet jade . you HAVE a silly girl. right there. pls. jade is silly. june is mischievous. learn your jesting terminology! some of you guys write her like your quirky tranny oc and not like. a person. it's rlly obvious for homestuck characterisation in particular bc most characters are at least two-note. even the dancestors. and those guys SUCKED

homestuck quadrants are wrong and full of lies but I know the truth; the totally serious essay

starring: the meowrails!! :D, troll romance quadrants, Karkat's terrifying and awful adventures in basic human interactions, and slander

Troll romance doesn't make much of an appearance in Homestuck. It's not delved into; we're only left with what is presented to us at face value. Many don't do deep dives into the deeper aspects of fictional alien relationships, and that's okay. We're not obligated to critically analyze every piece of media we consume. It's okay to just effortlessly enjoy things. These people are also wrong and stupid and i hate them.

My point is that what we're initially presented in Homestuck as Troll Romance is wrong. What most people perceive Troll Romance as is wrong. Let's get into it.

I'll mainly talk about moiraillegence because it's the quadrant with the most screen time and I'm lazy. Specifically gamkar, erifef, and nepquius, since they get the most screen time. It's no question that NepQuius is the healthiest of these three, and GamKar is the least. I'm not accounting for the time when Eridan murdered Feferi because at that point they weren't dating.

"It's because NepQuius upholds the ideals of moiraillegence most closely! EriFef had unrequited flushed feelings, thus deviating from the norm, and Gamzee ditched Karkat to go live in the vents, also deviating from the norm. The Meowrails have open communication and reciprocated pale feelings."

Wrong.

Well, right, in a way. Those things do help. But Equius and Nepeta had something that no one else did. They both contributed. Not only did Nepeta pacify Equius's rages, but Equius pacified Nepeta's dangerlust. He kept her from FLARPing, a dangerous and deadly game.

Eridan never functioned as Feferi's moral compass. He never did anything for her, relationship wise, besides abstaining from mass genocide. I don't really think that's a giant accomplishment.

But in a typical moiriallegence, one troll must pacify the other. There are no deviations from the norm. But the norm suffocates any inklings of romance with false ideas of love. It's a relationship that's all give and no take.

But that's the idea of romance that has stood true for centuries! It's completely unthinkable that the tried and true way to love someone, the ideals it's based upon and the actions thus caused are flawed! That has never happened before! Especially not regarding misogyny, racism, or homophobia! Why would you think that! /s

In fact, Karkat and Gamzee's moiraillegence is a perfect example with everything wrong with Traditional Troll Romance!

And that's exactly what GamKar does. Karkat does not love Gamzee. He's afraid of him. And that is why they failed. They failed because they tried to uphold a false standard of romance which was completely devoid of love.

So why would this standard of Moiraillegence stand so strong for so long? Could it have anything to do with the fact that nothing in Alternian society was based on love and kindness and instead on war and profit? Moiraillegence only exists to keep a troll from mass destruction and violence caused by the violent nature of their society.

But thankfully for these poor teenagers, Moiraillegence is the only quadrant that is poisoned by violence (real mcr there, I know). thank god that red romance, which was founded on pity, the only quadrant or relationship in a troll's life where they are not expected to be the best they can and constantly give their all and can just act like normal people is just founded on love and happiness and not at all necessary for a violent society to pacify and give hope to countless troops./s

its great that kismesitude is also great and healthy! and is not at all based on rivalry, which serves to improve a person. forcing constant self-improvement into all aspects of life, work, and interpersonal relationships, a troll's one joy in life would serve a function in a war-forged state. /s

or auspistices, which serve to keep black romance from spreading and causing black infedelity (and community solidarity)/s

I'm not saying that all these feelings are created by troll society and the Condence. I am saying that these natural feelings were distorted so that every aspect of the working class's lives exists only to serve the ultra-wealthy, and also to keep the working class in check.

but if these feelings were so greatly manipulated through centuries of social conditioning, how can we tell which feelings and relationship standards are healthy or weird military bs?

I don't have a concrete answer. I don't know what a healthy troll relationship would look like. None of us do. We can all interpret these quadrants into whatever we like. We have endless possibilities. In short, there is no correct way to interpret them. So stop being a haughty dick about it.

No one has the correct answers, not even you. I am now revoking your pass to bully twelve year old idiot kids for saying that moirails can or cannot kiss. With this post, I will end all fandom discourse. You're welcome.

Banana Bread

a self indulged little drabble i wrote pretty quickly, because i’m currently tired as hell. Thought id project it onto other people to try and get the writing gears working for my bigger fic.

fandom: homestuck characters: gamzee makara, karkat vantas dynamic: gamkar (flushed) genre: fluff length: 582 words (very short) pov: 3rd person (mainly gamzee)

note: no, there isnt any banana bread in the story.

a soft, angry grunt awoke gamzee from his resting place on the floor.

gamzee’s bleary eyes slowly opened, stifling back a yawn as he lifted his face from the floor. turning his head to the side so that one of his ears were pinned beneath his head his eyes focused on a pair of black converses and a long tail with a big pompom of black fur at the end curled around them, flicking irritably from side to side. gamzee turned his head further and was met with the sight of karkat glowering down at him.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING DOWN THERE, GAMZEE?“ the troll asked. gamzee blinked a few times as he searched for an answer. “’M jUsT rEsTiN’.” he mumbled, rolling onto his back. his joints ached and his body screamed at him to get up, but he refused to budge. karkat scowled. “YOU HAVE A RECUPERACOON FOR A REASON.“ karkat gave gamzees hip a small nudge with his shoe, but only got a sleepy growl from gamzee as he waved a claw.

“nAh BrOtHeR... fLoOrS bEtTeR.“ he shrugged and karkat only rolled his eyes. the smaller grabbed hold of the clowns legs and gave a hefty yank - a surprised honk leaving gamzee - although the purpleblood was too heavy to move. gamzees heels stung as his legs were dropped abruptly, though he just rolled back over onto his stomach. karkats shoes could be heard walking away, and gamzee relaxed. he was almost asleep again when he was hit on the back of the head with something plush, a prolongued muffled honk leaving him. karkat crouched down to lift gamzees head, stuffing a folded blanket under his head. gamzee rolled onto his side to groan. “bRo... WhAt ArE yOu DoInG?“ he mumbled as karkat dropped another blanket on him.

“IF YOURE GOING TO SLEEP ON THE FLOOR, YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE COMFORTABLE.“ he grunted, putting the blanket on the floor and rolling gamzee onto it before re-situating his pillow. he draped a final blanket over gamzee, loosely tucking in the edges around gamzees body so he didn’t get too drafty. “aWwW... tHaNkS, kArKiTtY.“ gamzee purred, gaining a glare from karkat as he kicked his shoes off to the side. he then flopped down besides gamzee, and the clown made a small honk of confusion. “wH-“ “IM KEEPING YOU COMPANY.“ karkat interrupted, before rolling onto his side so that his back faced gamzee. a bright smile formed on the clowns face as he excitedly reached out from the blanket, grabbing hold of karkats shoulder to pull him close to his chest. a disgruntle growl left karkat as he was dragged closer but he didn’t fight back, kicking his legs a little to remove the blanket from gamzee so he could pull it over himself as well. gamzee moved around compliantly to let karkat get comfortable before snuggling close, locking his claws over karkats chest to ensure he wouldnt be slipping away (although, if karkat tugged hard enough, he’d let go).

“tHaNkS, kAr...“ gamzee mumbled, tucking karkats head under his chin. karkat just sighed, curling his knees to his chest. “YEAH YEAH.. ITS NOTHING.” karkat yawned. gamzees purring made his entire body vaguely vibrate, but it was more soothing than bothersome. eventually they fell asleep on the floor, karkat getting pulled up onto gamzees chest halfway through the day as he rolled onto his back again.

sleeping with karkat was almost better than sleeping in his own recuperacoon.

My NOTP for them - I... Do I have any Gamzee notps? None of the general ships you see around really get to me all that much?

This is gonna sound weird, but I'm so picky about end game gamtav that it ALMOST creeps into notp territory. It's really, really hard for me to enjoy endgame/Earth C gamtav unless it's very specifically done. It's so hard for me to see a future for Gamzee at the end of Act 7. They're at such points in their lives that I absolutely would NOT want to see them in relationship immediately at the end of canon. There would need to be countless amounts of emotional progress, growth, and/or redemption on their own terms first, THEN they can get together :3

Not a notp, but I am pretty strictly pale gamkar. Not a flushed gamkar person, but I still find it cute so shrug???

My BROTP for them - GAMZEE AND TEREZI. TEREZI AND GAMZEE AND TEREZIIIIIIII. THAT BADASS SUBJUG AND LEGISLACERATOR COMBOOOOO. DEADLY. DON'T FUCK WITH THEM. FUCK YOU HUSSIE THEY'RE QUAD CORNERS AND WOULD KILL FOR EACH OTHER.

Actually, also really like Gamzee and Cirava getting to just hang out and smoke together. That's all I want.

My OTP for them - pfft. Psssh. Pft. Uhhhh, like I even need to say this one. I can survive off the dew of a single ginko leaf, the energy of the universe, and pbj sandwiches. (Link is to my 3k+ word rant on why gamtav is my absolute otp of otp’s. I would absolutely kill for them.)

My second choice pairing for them - Pale gamkar all the way. Love me some opposite moirails. I realized recently why I think Gamzee is so good for Karkat.With almost anyone else Karkat talks with, Karkat gets push back in some way, and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing! Or that it’s bad for Karkat! I was just thinking about that one chance Gamzee got to calm Karkat down post murderstuck and it was Karkat literally just so ready to fight and Gamzee is just “nah man :o( just maybe thinking you should try to calm down a little” and Karkat just seemed... so floored? By the lack of fight? And he’s basically just, “OH. RIGHT. OKAY. YEAH, YOU’RE MY MOIRAIL. YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO CALM ME DOWN. OKAY. I’M CALMING DOWN.”

And it just made me think of Karkat not knowing how to deal with Gamzee’s lack of pushback so he just... runs out of steam? Because he has no conflict to cycle off of? And idk it just makes my heart soft...

And speaking of opposite moirails, Karkat is just the HIGHEST strung motherfucker while Gamzee can be THE most pliable pile of soft goo. They balance each other :’D

My fluffy pairing for them - Not a romantic ship, but I adore a familial relationship between Gamzee and Calliope and Caliborn. Either with him just really caring about them as babies or AU's where he can be more of a dad to them (CALLIOPE SEEING GAMZEE AS A DAD POST CANON FUCKS ME UP DON'T TOUCH MEEE I'M IN THE THROES OF EMOTION.) Or humanstuck AU's where he's actually their dad, older brother, or adopts them ugh they get me. Dads who don't know what they're doing, all they know is they care a lot and trying their best? So good.

OH AND I GO STARK RAVING MAD FOR PARENT/CHILD DYNAMIC KARAKO AND GAMZEE. OLDER TEEN/YOUNG ADULT KARAKO TAKING IN TINY BABY GAMZEE??? AHHHHHHHHHHH???????

My angsty pairing for them - This is just copy pasted from my Terezi ask:

If I don't fully indulge with bffs Gamzee and Terezi in an AU, then I love me some ashen Gamzee♣️Rose♣️Terezi when it comes to more canon compliant material. With how upset over his qudrants Gamzee was in openbound? Plus it being post murderstuck? PLUS Rose having to deal with some of the most difficult trolls? I feel like there's a whole slew of really delicious angst just waiting there. A Gamzee afraid of losing Karkat, a Terezi lost in her guilt over killing Vriska, and both tearing into each other in some ugly, misdirected pitch flirting, Rose would absolutely have her hands full and probably get a kick out of it. I also love the idea of Rose just seeing it as a fun social learning experience "oooh troll quadrants and getting to play therapist" type thing, but then she really starts to understand the depth of the bonds ashen relationships have and she really comes to care so much for both of them.

Honorable mention to pitch Aradia♠️Gamzee with Gamzee being full on servant of Lord English and Aradia trying to be the keeper of time and the two of them meeting and clashing over and over throughout time and space as two opposing forces.

My favorite poly ship for them - Oooh, ho ho ho, love me some Gam♥️Equius♥️/♠️Tavros. Gamzee adores Equius so much tbh. Gamzee was just a huge sweetheart to Equius pre-game and just loved talking to him. Equius seemed pretty pitch (and I love Gamzee♠️Equius) towards him, but I think I like the idea of Equius letting himself be loved and recieve soft red affection from Gamzee is so cute.

I have a lot more thoughts about them, but it mostly focuses on Tavros and Equius’ dynamic, so I’ll save it for my Tavros ask.

My weirdest pairing for them - Probably the weirdest I've got for Gamzee is him pailing his auspistice, Arsast Aporia, a fantroll from Miracle Child. I call it "The Naughty Auspistice" series. It really all started while talking about the idea of Gamzee and Arsast kissing in a hypothetical game of truth or dare and then they realize, "Uh oh, they kind liked it," then Arsast gets the funky idea to distract Gamzee's desire to pail Sephar (the other ashmate), by pailing Gamzee himself. It's just... I've explored 'rails with pails before, but this is this the first time considering clubs who pail (there's probably a more clever term for it out there). It's just some silly thing I've come to really enjoy eheheh, especially with the social inappropriateness of it and them kind of needing to sneak around to do it.
