WHO IS THE STRAW HAT CREW'S BOATSWAIN??????

My gut says probably Franky but so many of the crew members have complete nonsense jobs that don't give them any responsibilities on the ship (what the fuck does an archeologist do on a pirate ship?? what is Usopp's job after Franky joins and takes over ship repairs?? what the fuck does Luffy actually do???) that any one of them other than Nami, Sanji, and Chopper would have more free time to handle cargo and the rigging and shit than Franky.

Every time I try to think of a crossover with One Piece and other pirate media like Black Sails or OFMD (in isekai form because it's fun), I run into the issue of the Straw Hat crew only having ten people at the absolute most and how that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever when considering the logistics of running and maintaining a whole ship on top of doing actual pirate things.

Trying to fit the Straw Hats into a real pirate story just sorta. Breaks my mind a little, which sucks because I want to make them proper pirates who kill and steal and raid other ships and that can work fine in the OP world where nothing makes sense ever but it falls apart very quickly when any real pirate media is introduced to it because the Straw Hats as a concept just don't make any logical sense when contrasted by an actual crew with dozens of people working constantly.

Anyway more American fandom discoursers should get into some slice-of-life manga or anime, learn how to handle stories that aren't constantly rising stakes and unnecessary drama. I recommend Azumanga Daioh as a good place to start.

The problem with American media is that we just don't have slice-of-life shit, like everything has to have stakes and drama even in the most mundane situations, so anything WITHOUT major drama is treated as meaningless and pointless filler and attempts from smaller (and usually queer) artists to make slice-of-life things get attacked for being boring or even for being "fetishistic" by. . . not being miserable and filled with unnecessary drama.

I loooooooove queerplatonic radiorose. Like they are platonic soulmates in every sense of the word.

They cook together and share meals and go on picnics and dance all the time. Alastor sometimes spends nights in her bedroom and they cuddle and quietly share their most important plans where there are no ears to overhear and no televisions or cameras to spy on them. One of Rosie's husbands got upset at their closeness, and at being banished from their bed so that Alastor could spend the night, so they ate him alive. Rosie has asked Alastor to marry her every time she's widowed again and he's always said no but he once told her that he'd have given everything to have known her in life.
