watching Leverage: episode 2

ok i made myself some pb&js and i am off to ep 2

spoilers, duh

thoughts before i watch:

i feel so conflicted about sophie/nathan and not in the way you think

i feel conflicted as in i don't know if i want to know all the details of their history together

like i love just the added layer that says "these two knew each other and had something in the past but have drifted apart for reasons"

so it's a "tell me!" but also "don't tell me! let them be mysterious about it!"

so will the next episode kick off from the last one? or will it be like a little time skip and some cons later kind of thing?

i'm fine with either because with the time skip, it helps alleviate the stress of building new character dynamics in a way. like, they're still new and some character will clash at first, but it's lessened a little (or not and that will be one of the major conflicts in the episode).

but i also like seeing how they work immediately after, seeing the awkward kind of team up and such. do they hang out after a con? do they live together or is that just the base of operations?

but enough of me talking about that. let's get into it!

it is nice to have a heist show where like....nothing goes wrong

everything that they planned for happens and if there are things that go left, they have a backup for it that they use and it's so.... n i c e and refreshing to watch a show like that

general thoughts:

like, i knew there would be episodes that criticize corporations and there'd be discussion of government corruption but....episode two???? they really aren't pulling any punches

also how they show the struggle a lot of disabled veterans go through because they don't have a funded safety net. like the doctor for perry really wants to help, and you can see that when she lectures nathan about trying to scam perry (he wasn't but from the outside, it's not hard to understand why she thought that). it hurts her to have to try and help these people who just want to get better, but have such limiting resources to the point that she has to turn them away after a couple months.

nathan is very much still a firm believer that this gang of crooks can become a gang of good crooks. and this is really sweet. you can see that they gang still helps him with the heist even if they can't believe that they are good people. but i like the ending for this because they're acknowledging that yeah, it felt great to help return the money to the people who needed it, and maybe they'd like to do this again.

moral of the story: corporations get fucked and i am enjoying it

remember kids, cleaning blood money works better with cold water, not shooting witnesses. that just adds to the dirt.

Headcanon that Elves generally keep to themselves not through the aloofness brought about because of their immortality but because they are fucking helpless when it comes to mortal children.

Any mortal children. Man, Hobbit, Dwarf, any kid. Elflings are beloved for a reason but Elflings are still Elves at heart and do not possess the frankly worrying amounts of curiosity and determination that mortal children have and which gives them a certain aura of adorable that the Eldar cannot resist.

General thoughts:

Uh, so, what the fuck 🫠 I am so sorry to everyone who watched this show live that cliffhanger is just….so evil.

Actually so happy to see Maggie get included with the crew, and it was nice to see that things weren’t just thrown under the rug from the last episode. Like on one hand, I am sympathetic towards Sophie, but on the other, her con put the team in a lot of danger. Danger they did not agree to because their heists are never really on the safe side. So it was fun to see that “yeah, I don’t know if I can trust you like I could before.”

ESPECIALLY WITH ELIOT!!! He actually admitted that he was feeling at home with the team and getting comfortable and letting his walks down 🥺 so it makes so much sense that he’s not ready to forgive Sophie for breaking that (also, Eliot I swear, we need more episodes focused on you because WHO FUCKING ARE YOU??? Nothing is explained fully, you’re like a jack of all trades, the tank of the team, you have a very tough exterior and I just— I wanna knooooooooooow 😖)

Hardinson and Parker were so fucking cute 🥰 and I love how their relationship is building but also felt really worried because Hardinson really wants to talk to Parker about where they stand, but she’s being very avoidant about it T^T and then!!! she fucking says “Let’s see how hard you look,” WITH A FUCKING SMILE GIRLIE NO!!! Been thinking a lot about what everyone has said on that one post about sameness in the vore community. I’ve always known the vore community tends to “recycle” concepts and tropes. (Trust me, I’ve been here for a WHILE I’ve seen it all.) Mainly, the prevalence of tooth-rotting comfort vore fluff. I certainly do not deny that I am a perpetrator of fixating on said content. It’s easy to write. Self insert first person character is sad, you project yourself onto them, they get eaten and praised, you feel better about yourself. And thus the cycle continues. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with this. Stories like these get my heart all giddy every time without fail, and I’m not gonna pretend they don’t.

But I do agree that the vore narrative has SO much more potential than just this. Horror. Suspense. Angst. Characters developing as people and growing closer to one another through unconventional means. I always adore when people come up with more unique vore stories, with entire fleshed out worlds and characters with their own backstories and personalities. Stories where it’s not really a vore story, it’s just a Thing that Happens to the already existing characters, and focuses on how they react to the strangeness and how they grow because of it. It’s a shame this sort of content isn’t as prevalent, but I completely understand why. Writing complex characters is hard. Writing conflict is hard. And it doesn’t help that content like this tends not to get as many hits as the more simple, easy to digest (heh) comfort stuff we see all the time around here.

As for me, I am one of the odd one’s out in the community in that I really don’t have any of my own characters. Sure I have a “persona” of sorts, but that’s a relatively new thing that isn’t even MY character but a generic self-insert thing from an already existing franchise. Almost all of my writing has been in the first person style, where the reader/author can imagine themselves in the story. I’ve now come to realize this is probably the main reason I’m stuck writing fluff, to be honest. I feel more comfortable inserting myself in vore situations where it’s nice and everything has a happy ending. Stories where the reader isn’t involved at all are a lot easier for me to include more developed emotions and conflict.

To tell you the truth, I’ve wanted to try my hand at making OCs for quite a while now. I actually have quite a few fleshed out character ideas that have been in stored away in my head for quite some time. Perhaps now that I’m drawing more, I could try my hand at it. Maybe. It’s kind of a long shot. In the meantime, I’ll certainly keep what everyone has said in mind as I write in the future. Thank you all again for giving the community your thought and feelings, and for being so civil and friendly to eachother :)

*DEEP BREATH* OKAY SO! tldr there's a giant moral panic in the legends arceus fandom from purity culture/antis about a super niche incest pairing of side character warden ingo and his (notably absent) brother emmet. except the sheer SCALE to which this spitting, vitriolic (...and performative: see the giant shitfest when japanese fanartists started blocking people with ‘proship dni’s and suddenly those dnis ~mysteriously disappeared~ like hmm! might be something there!) hatred means that basically any fluff piece that gets posted also comes with a giant “ALSO I KILL INCEST SHIPPERS I MUST CONSTANTLY REMIND EVERYONE OF THE FACT AN INCEST PAIRING EXISTS WITH THESE TWO CHARACTERS FUCKING ON ANY AND ALL G-RATED FLUFF PIECES”

yeah so that’s the background. like ive literally seen fics of the teen sidekick getting railed by the entire adult cast float around but nah, it’s only this one, niche pairing that gets plastered all over the tags on the genfic tags on ao3. (which, again, shows how performative out the wazoo it is with these people. seeing ‘proship dni’ tagged on a fanfic on archive of our own, the site literally built by a wincest shipper to host Problematic™ Content™™ the first time absolutely sent me... but the six hundred times after that were much less funny. also the death threats that some come with. yeah. not funny.)

anyway i noticed it started spreading into parental ingo&protagonist fics where emmet is literally not even mentioned whatsoever a few weeks ago. and now i have found at least one fic that’s at the point where neither character involved in the pairing are even present in said media. and the fucking ‘bLaNkShIp dNi’ tags are still there.
