Headcanon that Elves generally keep to themselves not through the aloofness brought about because of their immortality but because they are fucking helpless when it comes to mortal children.

Any mortal children. Man, Hobbit, Dwarf, any kid. Elflings are beloved for a reason but Elflings are still Elves at heart and do not possess the frankly worrying amounts of curiosity and determination that mortal children have and which gives them a certain aura of adorable that the Eldar cannot resist.

I know Elrond took Aragorn in because they took his mother in but I cannot help but think he also saw a tiny human and it clicked in his (admittedly half-Elven but it still counts) brain that this is an adorable baby and he needs doting on.

Incredibly pleased with the fact that FX's the Bear is getting the adoration and admiration it deserves BUT--

Easily the funniest thing to me is the influx of ppl thirsting after Carmy.

I get it--i do, but also please he thinks 2 cigarettes is a big breakfast, he can't sit down for more than 3 minutes or he'll pass out, he's balding at the temples because he's pulling his hair when he gets stressed and he's always stressed, he makes jokes about the chest freezer in the back being the most comfortable spot to sleep in the kitchen, he doesn't sleep because he's thinking too much about the menu, he cleans the kitchen within an inch of his life but there's piles of rotting half-eaten hot pockets in every corner of his room, his knifes are ranked higher than any partner he will ever have and if u interrupt the one glazed-eyed smokebreak he takes for exactly 2 minutes everyday he will kill himself.

Like I've worked in kitchens for a while, been a cook for a while, got raised by a cook who's been a cook for a while I adore cooks they are some of the most obsessively passionate people and it's literally so addicting to work in a kitchen and throw your whole life away for your customers to breathlessly come up to the window and tell you you just made them the best cod burger they've had in their life--and I think The Bear did SUCH a fucking good job of capturing that frenetic addiction but also--

You do not want Carmy as a boyfriend, he will be thinking about balsamic reductions while you fuck and he definitely has never washed his sheets in his life.

the prophecy subvertion in macbeth is actually an interesting example of it. 

“no man born by woman can kill him”. usually what would happen is that an exceptional individual would rise up, challenging both fate explicitly and social preconceptions implicitly, the whole “i am no man” cliche. i could see a modern version where mcduff is actually the son of a transman playing this in the classical way.

but in here that wasnt necesarily the case, what happened was that the prophecy had been deliberatly constructed with tricky language to decieve macbeth himself, the witches had aimed to misguide him and lead him to his ruin.

in this it is both a deconstruction of a self fulfilled prophecy and of a subverted prophecy. it was subverted because it was made to be subverted thus not actually being subverted at all. and it was self fulfilled not because the cosmic impersonal forces of destiny had made it so but because the witches had decided to fuck with this one guy in particular and he was prideful and arrogant enough to play right into it.
