I wanted to ask for curiosity sake BUT!!! What does Lu wear/look like when he’s evolved into a fully fledged Lucario? We’ve seen Eliana but I don’t think we’ve seen him yet, and I’m SUPER interested :O

I’m not great at drawing Pokes besides Eevee (especially from memory) so the one other time I’ve drawn a Lucario recently I decided…not to post it🥲

But! I don’t give Lu enough attention (plus I’ve been meaning to post some more refined sketches of this duo), so…here you go!😊

Team Relic!

I’ve previously shied away from giving them any specific identifying features because I am frankly terrified of unique character design (I’ve never been particularly good at it tbh…I always draw a blank on what I could include that wouldn’t be terribly cliche…all my OCs weep bc of this lol), but I decided to try my hand at it.

Eliana as an Eevee is taller than average, perhaps the greatest indicator of her physical age despite being a first form Pokémon (still tiny tho). Her paws are a darker shade of brown, similar to the tone in the inside of her ears, and instead of having a somewhat coarse, stiff, straight fur like most Eevee, hers is smoother, silkier, and almost curly (to reflect the texture of her hair as a human more closely). Her fur is also a tad longer, so some of these errant cowlicks are visible. She wears the knot of her scarf in the front sometimes because she does (thankfully) have enough dexterity to tie it on her own, but it takes her a while. Most of the time Lu does it for her.

[Lu develops a habit of either smoothing down said curls with his paws or introducing her to the concept of mutual grooming as a response to either of their occasional insomniac episodes or when one of them is anxious, but only in the privacy of their room. Otherwise, he keeps a paw between her shoulder blades under her ruff and strokes the fur under his pads as a self-soothing tactic, such as when running into Team Skull.]

As a Leafeon she grows extra lithe and lanky, so she has a bit of fawn clumsiness at first because she’d gotten so used to her shorter legs. Her nose scar from Grovyle is fully healed by this point, so it’s faded a bit, but she hadn’t been able to see the dead patch of skin where Dusknoir’s Ice Punch frostbit the flesh around her throat and rendered it hairless before, so she wears something over it almost all the time bc she hates the reminder.

[Later on she continues to wear it bc it distresses Dusknoir to see it a whole lot—it’s hard to coax him back from his guilty spirals, so she only goes “naked” when her things need to be washed after exploring.]

[She doesn’t even realize she has to allow herself time to photosynthesize a certain amount of time per day so the first week she couldn’t figure out why she felt so awful until Sunflora pointed out that her ears and tail looked a bit wilted. Sun baths and afternoon naps become a main stay after that point, although Lu does have to occasionally remind her when she starts to feel down without realizing she’d forgotten to do so.]

[She feels a little naked without her ruff because she’d grown the habit of tucking her chin/mouth into it when stressed out, so when she swaps her Guild scarf for a Virid Collar, she’s grateful to have the extra fabric to nuzzle into when she’s overwhelmed.]

[She can also contort into the oddest shapes to sleep. Lu can’t understand it, but it’s because she and Treecko would often have to wedge themselves into crevices and cracks to rest.]

Lu is pretty much your run-of-the-mill Riolu, although he’s a little slimmer and taller with a bit of a longer narrower snout.

However, when he evolves into Lucario, he fleshes out and gets a bit bulkier after all the exploring they’ve done. His chest spike is broken in an accident, and he develops early gray hair along his muzzle (losing your best friend prematurely to sudden vaporization will certainly affect your stress toleration in the long run huh).

[His fur thickens up in the winter and he’s the best to snuggle with, but given the fact that Treasure Town is coastal it rarely actually gets cold enough to last the whole night without having to peel yourself away for a chance to breathe.]

I have unfortunately been unable to find an actor who befits my mental perception of him, but I did draw a comic since I haven’t been able to get him out of my head (and turned it into an edit based on the audio that inspired it here).

In the context of chapter six, he obviously doesn’t have the otherworldly/monstrous features I gave him here—the same basic features without those traits.

(Also this isn’t actually how I picture my reader insert for Promises Kept, this is just where my art took me here. I try to be inclusive in limiting physical descriptions so please don’t think that I only imagine this artwork as the defining appearance of her.)

I feel like you’re also kind of running into this, but for some reason there’s not quite as much underlying tension between Dusknoir and Partner as there is with him and Hero.

Since Partner was already so attached to him to start with (for the cases with our OCs at least), it seems like it’s a lot easier for Partner to work through all the bad feelings there and forgive him now that they see that Dusknoir’s true self is finally shining through with nothing left to hide, like they always perceived and believed him to be from the start (save maybe having to swallow his pride to confess his feelings).

With Hero, though…it’s a whole different can of worms. In most cases, they no longer remember the terror he wrought chasing Hero and Grovyle around in the future, but in the past during their present memory, they did witness the exact lengths that he would go to in order to stop them, the deception he would employ and the harm he would bring even someone innocent in the whole plan of restoring time, like Partner, perceived as complicit in the act. They had no way of knowing (canonically of course) what he was hiding from them, and it was the very thing that had helped them and Partner so much in their journey that almost got them slaughtered in cold blood, after they trusted him enough to explain when they hadn’t even told the Guild members yet. It was far more grave a betrayal to Hero than to Partner because of their shared (of mostly unknown) background, in my opinion, so it truly would be no wonder that Hero would hypothetically struggle to reconcile with Dusknoir over Partner, who only had that limited experience with him as opposed to having been hunted by him for an indeterminate amount of time.

Methinks I would eat a toast of bread, but I would pass on the croutons as I’m not a huge fan. And I agree on the toast water, butter toast sounds mighty preferable!

I almost exclusively write on laptop/PC/iPad/even my phone when I get the chance. (When I was a waitress I was in my Dragon Age kick and would write on my tickets front and back so I wouldn’t “be on my phone” the whole time. I have the majority of the future scenes of The Smallest of Deeds transposed from those tickets, and I still have them in an envelope tucked away.) Otherwise I’m a tech/cloud enthusiast haha. I have enough blank notebooks that I want so very badly to get into the habit of actually using them, though…one day!🙏🏻

As far as my notes…they’re usually chaos lol. Most of the time they end up just being billeted lists at the start of my documents. Plot points and twists, character details, etc, all lined up so I can check them easily. I add them as I think of new things, like snippets of dialogue or scene ideas and the like.

I am currently in the process of transferring all of my Docs to a platform called Dabble, which is also cloud compatible, since Google decided to allow AI to delve into that space. I need to save a bunch of my old college/uni assignments into my Word Documents, but my PC is still out of commission for the time being so that process has been on hold for a while, unfortunately.

(I digress.) Dabble has character cast, plot grid, and worldbuilding notes features that help me to organize a lot more effectively, which is why I like using it so much. You can pull up your “notecards” within whatever chapter or scene you’re writing in at the time, and it’s enough of a blank slate that I don’t get overwhelmed with feeling like I have to fill everything out. (I swear I’m sponsored lol, but it really is nice if you can afford to pay its subscription fee. It just feels a lot more secure than Docs, runs more efficiently without lagging, and has features that allow for importation and exportation. It structures the document itself like a manuscript for easier transferral, and it has cloud syncing and allows for others to comment and access for beta reading and the like. I’d highly recommend checking it out!)

In the Morning Light (or, currently, That Poison, Reconciliation) is the first fic that I’ve really invested in organizing since I’ve had a bunch of different documents over the span of ten years keeping track of all my ideas. I’m exclusively writing it in Dabble rn.

Speaking of which…I’m a week late for an update, huh🥲I have some free time tonight, so I’ll try to work on the next chapter!

If I had to boil it down to one, it would (perhaps obviously) be Ancient Egypt. Some others include Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (and horses in general), Warriors (and cats in general), and I believe that Spider-Man was my first favorite superhero (watched the Maguire trilogy first, then the 90s cartoon as well as Spectacular on YouTube).

Ranting about that ghostly old man under the cut:🫡

She was already so overprotective of Grovyle in the future since they met when he was a Treecko and so terrified of everything being so small…then once she recalls her memories and realizes that Grovyle had to take that place for her after she lost her memory, protected her with his life once they discovered the truth, she grieves over losing him all over again…now she has him back, with Lu, safe and sound and she has abilities now to protect them both so much better and…yeah. She snapped.

That was pure instinct stemming from the harrowing experience of being hunted down plus his betrayal, almost being killed multiple times, being convinced that he would no longer be in the picture (perhaps also having blocked out the idea that he might still be around bc she couldn’t handle the thought of seeing him again after all that trauma) after the future was restored…Eliana is not having a great time because after Dusknoir already took advantage of her amnesia and broke her trust the first time, so even Grovyle is going to have a hard time convincing her that Dusknoir has sincerely changed for the better and for good😭

Going from a barely one-foot fox who fits in the palm of his hand, completely trusting and admiring and looking up to him, to him killing her for seemingly no reason…you always touch on those tones in your composition so well I wanted to try to emulate that a little🥺👉🏻👈🏻

Also I’m glad they the reunion expressed how important and intimate I wanted it to sound—with Grovyle in particular. He means so much to her and vice versa and just…they’re so happy that the other is okay and I wanted that to come across so badly🥹

I wanted her to see him entering the room in kind of slow motion, but I’m uncertain I expressed clearly—just this dawning, horrific realization, the embodiment of all her fears, sneaking (in her point of view) into a room filled with the people she cared about most, with their backs exposed to him…nope, she’s not having that. He’s such a big, foreboding figure that I wanted that eeriness to come through

And Lu and Grovyle are her rocks from two different points in her life—they keep her steady, they keep her calm, and them working together to soothe her anxiety and fight/flight instinct was something I wanted to touch on. You know. For funsies :)

I didn’t mean to leave dusknoir out without any dialogue but I’ll get to him in no time, believe me😈

just wanted to let you know that I love i thought I dreamt of her! it's such a beautiful story and I'm loving how bittersweet it is for both Miguel and reader and how differently they're processing seeing each other I love it

Thank you, lovely! Bittersweet is exactly what I was going for!

Miguel wants nothing more than to have Reader in any capacity possible, but he’s terrified that he won’t half the self-restraint necessary to prevent himself from making a similar mistake as before again—I’ve been whittling away at the next chapter and it deals more on his inner conflict. 928C reader definitely has some surprises in store for him, though, so he won’t really have the opportunity to get too hung up on comparisons for long! ;)

It’s been very fun so far playing with the careful balance of grief/longing/angst vs humor/familiarity/learning a “new” person that’s actually very similar to a lost loved one yet so different. Some future chapters I have planned take a more playful approach to their developing relationship that highlights the comfort they feel with each other despite technically being strangers.

This concept has been extremely fun (also highly inspired by @astroboots Every You Every Me series—I highly recommend it!) to try, and while it has more angst in store for the tentative overarching plot I have planned, I think it will be cathartic in its own way to resolve some things for Miguel before the events of ATSV occur to give his overreactions and motivations some more context. :)
