Gromverse short comics by Phobs part 4
The tumblr ban war threw me off balance and I wasn't in the mood to translate anything AT ALL for a few weeks.
Anyway, get a grip, you rag! as we say; here are the rest of the IG strips I liked best.
Tumblr media
Poet: Have you ever read "Rome and Juliet"?
Lady: I've read "Kashtanka"*. Do you want a bite on the ass?**
*"Kashtanka" (Russian: Каштанка) is an 1887 short story by Anton Chekhov about a young foxy-looking mongrel Kashtanka ,who lost her master. All in all, typical Russian classic literature.
**The dialogue itself is a meme from 2000, when parody translations from the "Funny Goblin Translations" series were in vogue in Russia (in short it's something like Star wars bad lip reading but in full movie form). This particular dialogue is taken from the Lord of the Rings parody (to be more precise, the dialogue was between Arwen and Aragorn xD).
Tumblr media
How to court a girl?
X - bring her a flower / Igor: I've got you something.
V - bring her the corpse of her enemy / Poet: Step on me.
This is how Phobs saw this frame from comics. Because she headcanons Poet as a beanpole.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Phobs: Arc of the Fireworshipper, all the same, except the Fireworshipper takes on a shape the size of a house.
Tumblr media
Fireworshipper: Igor! Igor, why aren't we doing what I dream about?!
Igor: Fuck off!
Fireworshipper: Igor!
Igor: I said "fuck off!"
Meanwhile, Igor took a vacation to touch the grass*
Tumblr media
*To touch grass is a slang expression meaning to calm down, to comprehend zen.
Phobs: Who am I fooling, I'm drawing Grom dojinshi (about Chrysalis and the Poet) just to get to this piece of storyboard…
Tumblr media
Poet: Gumilyov or Akhmatova?
Chrysalis: Shawarma in lavash or in pita?
After the MGPD movie you probably already know this, but let me clarify: shawarma is very popular in Russia, it is food of the gods and ordinary workers, so you don't have to deal with lunches and dinners in the kitchen for hours after you're tired af after work.
Tumblr media
Clever Man: I've decided to sew one of you Grom's face on.
All: CURSED.
Clever Man: I know, so you'll be pulling straws (lmao, Poet didn't stand a chance, he's a loser for life).
The Clever Man's Friend Whose Name I Have Safely Forgotten: You forgot to take your pills in the morning again, didn't you?
Cocytus: I want to try it to-.
Styx: NO.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): The Conquest of Makkah and Afterwards
The King of Bahrayn Becomes a Muslim
(8th year of the Migration, the end of the month of Dhulqada)
The Prophet sent Ala’ b. Hadrami to Mundhir b. Sawa, the king of Bahrayn.  Abu Hurayra also went to Bahrayn with Ala’ b. Hadrami.
Bahrayn is the name given to the countries on the coast of India, Basra and Umman. The people of Bahrayn consisted of fireworshippers, Jews and Christians.
Ala’ b. Hadrami went to Mundhir b. Sawa and gave him the letter of the Prophet. The following was written in the letter:
“Bismillahirrahmanirrahim!
Peace be upon those who follow guidance!
I invite you to Islam! Be a Muslim so that you will attain salvation. God will let you be the king of your land.
Know it very well that my religion will rule and go as far as camels and horses can go.”
After a short conversation with Ala’ b. Hadrami, Mundhir b. Sawa became a Muslim together with Sibuht, the religious leader of the fireworshippers. Thus, Mundhir had the belief that would bring him the sultanate of the hereafter along with the sultanate in the world.
Many people became Muslims together with the king and the religious leader.
Mundhir, the king, sent a letter to the Prophet. After stating that he became a Muslim and that he approved the prophethood of the Messenger of God, he asked how he should treat the fireworshippers and Jews in his country.
The Messenger of God replied the letter of Mundhir as follows:
“Bismillahirrahmanirrahim!
From Muhammad, Messenger of God to Mundhir bin Sawa.
Peace be on you!
I praise God, who has no associates, for giving you the bounty of guidance.
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.
I received your letter, had it read and listened to what you wrote.
I remind you to act in accordance with the orders and prohibitions of God. A person who advises others definitely advises himself, too; and he will gain rewards.
A person who follows my messengers and acts in accordance with their orders, in fact, is regarded to have obeyed me.
My messengers have highly praised your behavior and told me good things about you. I accept your intercession and recommendation regarding your people. Give the new Muslims full chance to practice their religion. Pardon the previous offences of the offenders; do not hold them responsible for what they did in the past.
Know it very well that as long as you do good things, you shall continue in your present office; you will be our deputy there.
As for the people who want to go on in their Jewish or fireworshipping faith, they have to pay you jizyah.
Peace and mercy of God be upon you!”
We should state that the Prophet sent several letters to Mundhir b. Sawa on different dates and that Mundhir answered them.
Ala’ b. Hadrami stayed there as the Messenger of God had ordered him and continued to collect tithe from Muslims and jizyah from non-Muslims.
During the 8th year of the Migration, many delegates from the tribes around came to Madinah and expressed that they became Muslims in the presence of the Messenger of God.

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH)’s BIOGRAPHY : The King of Umman and His Brother are invited to Islam
(8th year of the Migration, the month of Dhulqada)
The Prophet returned to Madinah with the joy and peace brought about by the conquest of Makkah and the victory of Hunayn with his Companions. The polytheism was defeated badly and the tribes started to enter Islam in groups. The Muslims virtually had a new excitement and spirit of jihad. The fact that the honorable flag of Islam started to wave almost everywhere in Arabia made them peaceful and happy.
However, there were still some kings who had not received the invitation of Islam yet. When the Messenger of God returned to Madinah, he sent Amr b. As to Umman. His duty was to give Jayfar, the king, and his brother Abd the letter that was given to him and to invite them to Islam.[ Ibn Hisham, Sirah, Vol. 4, p. 254; Ibn Sa’d, Tabaqat, Vol. 1, p. 262. ]
Umman was a big city on the coast of Yemen-India Sea where the Persian Gulf narrows. Azdis ruled this city, which was famous for its date groves and crops. There were also some people of different races there.
Amr b. As arrived in Umman as he was ordered and gave the letter to the king and his brother. When they opened the letter, they saw that the Messenger of God addressed them as follows:
“Bismillahirrahmanirrahim!
From the Messenger of God Muhammad b. Abdullah to Jayfar and Abd, sons of Julanda!
Peace be upon those who follow guidance!
After greeting you, I tell you this:
I invite both of you to Islam. Be Muslims so that you will attain salvation.
I am the Messenger of God that He sent to the humanity so that I will warn them about the torture in the hereafter and to apply the decrees of God about the unbelievers.
If you embrace Islam, you will remain as the rulers; if you do not embrace Islam, you will definitely lose your sovereignty; cavalrymen will invade your land and my prophethood will beat your kingdom and sultanate.”[ Ibn Qayyim, Zadu’l-Maad, Vol. 3, p. 73; Qastalani, Mawahibu’l-Ladunniya, Vol. 1, p. 294. ]
At first, Jayfar and his brother hesitated; then, they overcame their hesitation and became Muslims, affirming the prophethood of the Messenger of God. They also invited the people to Islam. When the people heard their invitation, they accepted Islam readily.[ Ibn Sa’d, ibid, Vol. 1, p. 263; Ibn Qayyim, ibid, Vol. 3, p. 74; Halabi, Insanu’l-Uyun, Vol. 3, p. 303. ]
Thereupon, Amr b. As undertook the duty of administrative affairs of this city as the Prophet had told him. Amr was ordered by the Prophet to collect zakah and sadaqah from the rich and to give them to the poor; he was also ordered to collect jizyah from fireworshippers and settle the cases among the Muslims.[ Tabari, Tarikh, Vol. 3, p. 139. ]
Amr stayed in Umman to carry out these tasks until the death of the Prophet.[ Ibn Sa’d, ibid, Vol. 1, p. 263. ]

Why is the birthday of the Prophet important for us?
April 20, 571 (the 12th night of the month of Rabi’ul-awwal) is the date when our beloved Prophet was born; it is called the birthday of the Prophet. It is the birthday of the Prophet of the prophets, whom the universe and the humankind had been looking forward to for centuries. He is the prayer of Hazrat Ibrahim, the glad-tiding of Jesus, and the dream of Abdulmuttalib, his grandfather and Amina, his mother. The Incident of the Elephant informed about his coming. Several extraordinary events took place on the night he was born. A holy light that illuminated the east and west of the world was seen. The fire of the fireworshippers which had been burning continuously for a thousand years blew out. The valley of Samawa, which had been dry for centuries, was flooded. Tens of stars fell down from the sky. Fourteen towers of Kisra’s Palace fell down spontaneously. Most of the idols in the Kaaba were overturned. The devil gave out a deadly scream. Many more mysterious incidents took place one after another because the Master of the Universe, the Source of Pride of the humanity, Hazrat Ahmad Mahmud Muhammad Mustafa (pbuh) was coming to the world. All of the beings welcomed him by standing.
To celebrate the birth of the Prophet of human beings and jinn, to utter salawat for him, to mention his name, to remember that we are his ummah thanks to this night is a nice application that has been done for a long time by Muslims.

SC| Child born out of an irregular marriage is legitimate and entitled to inherit his father’s property
Supreme Court: The bench of NV Ramana and MM Shantanagoudar, JJ, on the issue relating to legality of the marriage of a Muslim man with an idolater or fireworshipper, said that such marriage “is neither a valid (sahih) nor a void (batil) marriage, but is merely an irregular (fasid) marriage.”
In the present case, the plaintiff had claimed his share in property of his Muslim father, who had married his Hindu mother. However, the defendants argued that the plaintiff’s mother was not the legally wedded wife of Mohammed Ilias and that she was a Hindu by religion at the time of marriage. She had not converted to Islam at the time of her marriage, and thus the plaintiff was not entitled to any share in the property in question.
The Court, however, after considering that the marriage in question was an irregular marriage, noticed:
“the legal effect of a  fasid marriage is that in case of consummation, though the wife is entitled to get dower, she is not entitled to inherit the properties of the husband.  But the child born in that marriage is legitimate just like in the case of a valid marriage, and is entitled to inherit the property of the father.”
Based on the finding that any child born out of a fasid  marriage is   entitled   to   claim   a   share   in   his   father’s property, the Court held that the plaintiff was entitled to his share in his father’s property. [Mohammed Salim v. Shamsudeen, CIVIL APPEAL NO. 5158 OF 2013, decided on 22.01.2019]

Okay, time to gather all impressions left by the ЧД 20:
- first and foremost, beautiful styles from all of the artists who worked on this number. Love it when they do that.
- love all three of them working together
- Toma going wild when she sees Lera’s face; same
- Toma being so cheery throughout the whole issue sparks joy (literally)
- Lera saying how “beauty requires sacrifices” while wearing the Plague Doctor which literally prevents anyone from seeing her face and body, just mood (I know it’s a joke but mood really)
- Oleg: The helmet is not made of cardboard.
Me, who made my own plague doctor mask a while ago: Of course it is, where do you think I could find plastic?
- Sergey roasting Poet about his fashion choices; bold words from someone who wears Hawaiian shirts and neon colours and that leopard-print hat once (really? 2007 is the year he went with?)
- on an unrelated note, the food in this issue is Ghibli-levels of delicious looking. Now I want that Trdelník Toma is eating
- did not expect to be hit in the feels by Toma going to the graveyard (was it also 2007. written there as the year of birth? Poor Liza [guessing that’s her])
- Toma saying her parents were “adventurers”, that guy (Vasily? Is that his name?) having triggers from seeing her dad? Theory that Toma’s parents were part of the cult getting more possible proof
- finally found out what the deal was - Albert is Fireworshipper’s brother, as it would seem. Makes sense, but probably would make sense earlier, had I actually managed to read a bigger part of the comics

Plague Doctor Ch. 31 short summary
Since it's taking me longer to translate chapters due to busyness, I decided to post on tumblr short chapter retellings that I post on MGPD Discord when chapters come out.
The chapter starts with very... tired/drained Lera, who comes to Sergey's main apartment. Lera is covered in small cuts and bruises all over her body. She is also smoking. She admits that she failed the mission, that there is some f-ed up shit that is going on in the casino, and she ask a permission to enter. A bewildered Sergey agrees. Then he stops and waryly asks Lera how she knows his real address. Lera lifts up her face - her eyes are like a Fireworshipper's. She drops a cigarette and everything starts to burn. Sergey wakes up with a jolt, and thinks wtf is he dreaming about again. Then he turns to the left side of his king-sized bed and says, "Oleg, you-" But the left side of the bed is empty.
Oleg is caughing and playing some videogame (Baldur's gate?).Sergey comments that Oleg spent a day in the ice warehouses and didn't get sick, while here in the summer heat he caught a cold. Oleg reminds about his gift of a minuscule chance. Sergey changes the subject and asks if Oleg has cigarettes. Oleg shows him where to get some and then comments that Sergey doesn't smoke, so why would he need cigarettes. Sergey replies that he had a nightmare and now he wants to smoke. Oleg asks what he dreamed about and Sergey retells him his dream. Sergey finds the cigarettes, freezes, and then says in surprise "Why do I need cigarettes? What the hell."
As it turns out, the ending of last chapter where Lera infiltrates Mark's casino, inhales spores from his miracle tree and Mark catches her is my mistake, I confused the Triad spy - Wang Lin - with Lera. They have similar hairstyles. That's why Mark caught Wang Lin and not Lera. Meanwhile, Lera is at home reading a book on Slavic mythology, which Mark recommended to her, and thinks he pranked her. Apparently, it's a lot of nonsense. Then she notes that the wound on her knee went away quite quickly, but Fishkin's bite marks are not (I guess the events of the arc take place tightly after the special. During her fight with Fishking, who attacked people, she teamed up with Mir and Aisa to beat him, but he bit her quite hard). Lera has also taken in Chrysalis's cat for foster care while he is at sea. She gets a call from Toma. Toma tells her that he doesn't know who sent her the anonymous letter asking the Plague Doctor to help catch Fishkin (which caused the Plague Doctor to later be blamed for Fishkin's kidnapping, though he simply escaped), and Chrysalis wonders how his cat is doing.
Meanwhile, we are shown what became of Wang Lin after he was caught by Mark. As it turns out, his hallucinations didn't stop, it was just a way to show what was really going on. Mark orders the unconscious Wang Lin to be thrown out. Wang Lin ends up simply going insane and is found by the Triad men and brought back to headquarters. Liu Shengli is very concerned and tries to bring him to his senses. Mrs. Mei is not happy with their failure, beats up Shengli and kills Wang Lin. She then demands that Shengli tell Mark that the Triad demands a fight. Shengli is shoked and broken by his friend's death.
Meanwhile, Mark is examining his man which is blind in one eye and Mark is unable to cure him. To be more precise: his subordinate was walking around with a prosthetic eye. Mark grew an eye for him, but the eye of his subordinate can't see anything. It's strongly implied here that Mark is the one who adopts other people's wounds and then heals them. He also comments to himself that "My father's land was never my own and gave me almost no power. Only wasted my strength." I assume he is half Mexican, his father is from Russia.
Mark shoos his subordinate out and Shengli walks up to him unnoticed. Mark is caught off guard and asks how he got in in the first place. Shengli says that Mark's men searched him and let him in. Mark wonders to himself how he's even still alive with such guards and scoffs at Shengli's words that he's unarmed and defenseless, saying Shengli is a fighter, his body a weapon in itself. Shengli recommends hiring Chinese bodyguards, who are rigorously screened. Mark scoffs, saying, "Did you come for job interview?"
Meanwhile, Lera, in an airy pink dress, approaches the casino and notices Shengli's security guards. Sergey notes that they don't look like building security, just some strange asian dudes. Lera walks up to the entrance and they start harassing her. As soon as one of them grabs her, he gets kicked in the stomach. A brawl ensues and Lera trashes them like puppies. Meanwhile, Shengli sends Mark a Triad message: confrontation. Until the group is destroyed. Mark assigns a location for a showdown - Shuvalov Forest. Mark's man runs in and says there's a fight with the Chinese at the entrance. Mark is unhappy that Shengli told him that he came alone. Mark sees Shengli's beaten guards at the entrance and jokes that Chinese guards are also made in China. Shanley gets angry at thst remark. Seeing Lera, Mark perks up, transforms, and expresses how happy he is to see her again. Lera is surprised that Mark is the owner of the casino, and Sergey remarks snidely that Lera has interesting acquaintances.
Mark is so happy to see Lera that when he learns that she has come looking for a job, he almost offers her the position of head of security. Sergey jokes that Lera should be more careful - "don't overdo yourself trying to get a job, ma chérie, or you'll end up getting a maternity leave".
Shengli also starts apologizing to Lera on behalf of his guards, saying that the order was not to let anyone in, to which Lera replied, "Taking a woman away against her will is also an order?". Shengli apologizes for that as well. Lera notes to herself that Shengli looks somehow doomed. Mark is irritated that Shengli has gotten Lera's attention.
Shengli and Mark start bickering with each other, which does not escape the attention of Lera and Sergey - they realize that before them are competitors at knifepoint. Shengli finds it suspicious that a professional fighter shows up on Mark's doorstep and Mark doesn't care, but decides not to dwell on it. Shengli leaves and reminds Mark about meeting "in Shuvalovsky". Sergey is pleased, he is going to search in where exactly they're going to have their showdown. Mark apologizes to Lera for the scene and escorts her inside. Sergey turns off the microphone just in case, since he's been joking constantly and is afraid that Mark will notice the wiretap.
Lera sees the strange tree with flowers and mushrooms that Mark planted in the hall and says that it is beautiful. Sergey notes that the orphanage didn't have this tree before. Mark says that the St. Petersburg climate is too cold for him, but this tree has taken root here - although that didn't happen even at his home. Anyway, this place where his tree took root is his reason for staying in the city. Lera clarifies whether Mark is a gardener or a landscaper. Mark jokes that he's a magician. This is when they are rudely interrupted by new visitors. Lera is shocked and horrified, Sergey is shocked and horrified, and tells Lera that they'd better shoot the building plan some other time, because Altan Dagbaev and Vadim themselves have come to Mark's casino. As it turns out, Mark had an appointment with them (but he was too happy to see Lera and forgot. Or he just doesn't care, lmao).
That's it folks.

The Life of The Prophet Muhammad(pbuh): The Conquest of Makkah and Afterwards
The King of Umman and His Brother are invited to Islam
His duty was to give Jayfar, the king, and his brother Abd the letter that was given to him and to invite them to Islam.
If you embrace Islam, you will remain as the rulers; if you do not embrace Islam, you will definitely lose your sovereignty; cavalrymen will invade your land and my prophethood will beat your kingdom and sultanate.”
At first, Jayfar and his brother hesitated; then, they overcame their hesitation and became Muslims, affirming the prophethood of the Messenger of God. They also invited the people to Islam. When the people heard their invitation, they accepted Islam readily.
Thereupon, Amr b. As undertook the duty of administrative affairs of this city as the Prophet had told him. Amr was ordered by the Prophet to collect zakah and sadaqah from the rich and to give them to the poor; he was also ordered to collect jizyah from fireworshippers and settle the cases among the Muslims.
Amr stayed in Umman to carry out these tasks until the death of the Prophet.
