I know I've talked about this before, but I absolutely loathe how the character of Finn was treated in this movie. Not only the redundancy of his plot, but the sheer laziness of it.

"Who are you waiting for?"

Finn didn't jump. He'd already sensed the speaker -- honestly, it was hard not to. She practically screamed out her thoughts the way Grogu did whenever he cut a new tooth.

"Me? Just..." Finn ducked out of sight again as the scrap traders passed. "Just waiting for my family."

The girl nodded, and something melancholy rolled off of her in waves. "Me too. They'll be back any day."

She's lying, Finn realized. He couldn't bring himself to contradict her, so he merely nodded.

"It may take a while for mine to find me. With the First Order running around, I have to be more careful about sending messages to my little brother. But my dad can track anything. If he gets a trace on the TIE I escaped in, he'll find me."

After an uncomfortable pause, he asked, "So uh, what's your name?"

"Rey," the girl answered simply, "What's yours?"

"Finn," he responded without stopping to wonder why he felt so at ease with this girl, "Finn Djarin."

Wait, why did you tell her that?! Aw man, you know better, Buir will have a heart attack!

Hastily he added, "But if anybody asks, I'm just "Mando", okay?"

This is a long video but it is worth the watch. The SW Sequel characters deserved better. The racism and misogyny in this so-called progressive trilogy are appalling.

I want to see black and female characters treated as fully fleshed characters with flaws and dreams, not just pieces of cardboard with black skin and/or a vagina.

I think a lot about the fact that before TFA was released there were so many bad faith Finn takes arguing “there is NO WAY that Finn is a Skywalker or a Solo.” Like Finn couldn’t conceivably have been the legacy character, like Star Wars doesn’t heavily feature adoption and found family.

I also think a lot about how quickly people accepted Grogu as Din’s son. And some folks extend that to Luke being Grogu’s other Dad. Two completely different species? Instant family.
