Commander Xan Derrycc by jedi-art-trick
Derrycc was my character from my group's version of the DarkStryder Campaign Box Set from West End Game's Star Wars Role Playing Game.
He was originally going to be the Operations Officer, just another member of the Command Crew and regular Navy-type who would run the ship. For those who are familiar with the Campaign, yes he bumped out Darryn Thyte. None of us players ever ran any of the stock characters from the game, so we changed quite a bit of the story. However, as you may know the Captain dies early on, and First Officer Kaiya Adrimetrum becomes Captain, and so Derrycc was promoted to First Officer. Later on, my GM got tired of running the Captain as well as all the NPCs she had to deal with, so soon there was excuses for her not to be there, and then later she was written out and my dude was promoted to Captain.
The basic physical template for his looks started with Sir Kenneth Branagh, from his Hamlet.  When I created Xan I was just getting into Shakespeare, and Kenny's movies helped me become a fan. I always described him as looking like Branagh but with red skin, generally human, kind of a red-skinned Thrawn. Since I had no artist way back when that was the best I could do. In some anachronistic role-playing, my fellow players and GM would describe hims as "satanic" or "devilish" looking.  Apparently, they called him the "Dark Lord of the Bridge".  I wanted him to be humanoid, but also wanted to develop his species.  There is an older version in my gallery as I created the species but am not an artist, it is a work in progress.
Derrycc's race is Eltelaran. I thought of them as a planet that was kicked out of the Old Republic a couple hundred years ago for not keeping a central unified planetary government. They were a planet with still many nations, who temporarily allied to join the Republic, but could not keep it together, so they got the boot. Many of the nations are space-farers thru and thru, given to star sailing and tactics, many of them training from the time of adolescence in the way of naval warfare (much like British midshipmen way way back in the day). I imagined their system or sector somewhat isolated by nebula and asteroids and such, so they had little touch with the rest of the galaxy and no idea the Republic had fallen. Eventually, the Empire saw their martial ability as a threat and rolled in. I figure that they may not have advanced as much technologically given their isolation so it was only their tactical superiority that saved them from complete destruction. Those that did survive limped along to the nearby system of Dak, the Empire's next stop, only to find it in ruins as well, but they joined with the Mon Calamari and helped them convert their cruise ships into warships and train them in tactics.
Some of you may notice the uniform. It is more of what my idea of the Rebel uniform should look like. A little better tailoring than what you saw in Jedi was some slight alterations.
The character himself is a Navy man, born and bred. I was discovering Horatio Hornblower and the Aubrey/Maturin series at the time. Throw in a dash of Captain Picard's stoicism, Captain Kirk's ingenuity, with a little Lt Commander Hunter from Crimson Tide, Bart Mancuso from Hunt for the Red October, and so on...

Imperium Maledictum
We’ve just wrapped up our first foray into the new Warhammer 40K RPG from Cubicle 7.
A little short notice, so I cobbled together and old Dark Heresy adventure I had run in the dim, dark, and distant past. Little more than a dungeon crawl, set in the 40K universe.
I.M. definitely feels different than it’s Black Industries/Fantasy Flight Games ancestors, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing. There is still a familiar framework; you can see where it’s come from, but it’s quite a distance from where it started.
Character creation is fast, simple, and easy. Yet it still offers a large enough variety to satisfy most groups. Yes there are some options you would expect to be in a Core Rulebook for 40K that are lacking - I’m looking at you Adeptus Arbites - but it still has plenty of choice.
I like the more pulpy feel of the ruleset, although I will cling onto the Firing Into Melee rules until someone pries them from my cold, dead, hands, the group was quite evenly split on whether to include them.
I like using abstract Zones rather than explicit distances, something I have been a fan of since my first foray into them in a Modiphius 2d20 game.
Ammunition is both a quantifiable, and an abstraction which is interesting - you abstract it for automatic gunfire, not having to worry about whether your autogun has 23 or 19 rounds left. But for lower fire rate weapons where each individual shot matters, it is still a finite number.
Damage is lower than it’s Warhammer Fantasy 4th Ed. counterpart, and I’m not 100% sure how I feel about that. WFRP 4th Ed. could have some really swingy, and terrifying damage rolls, but it always felt quite impactful. You do much more consistent damage in I.M. but it felt less thrilling - at least from my GMing perspective.
A reduced Skill list, and automatically gaining certain Talents regardless of whether or not you qualified for them, seems to be a good choice. All of the players felt that it made their characters more competent than they would have been as starting characters in other 40K/WFRP lines.
All-in-all, the group and I are looking forward to playing some of it, when we can squeeze it in.

Been a while y’all, but my hyperfixations took over so here you go: a Black Crusade character sheet updated for the fan-expansions, with clonable sections allowing multiple minions, vehicles, and starships, with limited automation!
Here’s the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U56BqMj0egYW-tmjfdB187qwhF6HFB-T2YkFKEV9ZRM/edit?usp=sharing
Lemme know if it isn’t working, but I’m calling it done for now until I start spotting issues when I use it in play!

Fall From Glory Ch.2 - Fresh Starts
Summary: The worst punishment Heaven can dole out is for the offending angel to fall. Fall out of the glory of God, away from his grace and the safety it provided. Falling is a punishment far worse than death for at least in death you can be with The Almighty Creator. Falling was the worst thing that could happen to an angel but honestly:
Who knew falling could be so freeing?
Words: 8,646
Main Relationship: Weiss Schnee/Ruby Rose
Rating: M
Notes: Reposting this and a bunch of other fics from my main blog to this one so they are more easily found and linked!
Fic:
The month since falling Weiss had slowly begun to adapt to her life on Earth. But out of everything that she’d done the first, and most important, had been to find the person who she had risked everything for.
Ruby Rose.
The reason she had fallen. She had desperately needed to find her. Why? Weiss couldn’t tell you all she knew is that she needed to continue watching over Ruby. To continue protecting her. From what? She wasn’t quite sure but every instinct told her to find and protect Ruby. Just as they had the day she’d broken the laws of Heaven.
Weiss stood at the edge of Vale City General Hospital watching as people moved around, many wearing scrubs and doctors' coats, but none were the person she was looking for. Through narrow eyes she watched the people looking for–
The sound of a car pulling up and brakes squealing loudly caused Weiss to jerk toward the sound. Her eyes were drawn toward a familiar yet run-down muscle car, yellow paint chipping from years of wear. Turning her full attention to the car, Weiss pulled a small Moleskine planner from her bag as a person exited the passenger door.
The woman who came into view wore a bright red beanie and a black leather jacket covered in patches. ‘Ruby. Weiss watched as Ruby adjusted the forearm crutches, she leaned into them and walked forward. Weiss glanced at her watch, noting the time as she opened her planner to the current day. ‘January 18th. In: 8:18 am’ was written in small, tight, and neat handwriting before she snapped the planner closed. The fallen angel watched as a blonde woman, Yang Xiao-Long – Ruby’s sister, came into view.
Yang closed the door behind Ruby, leaning in to talk to the younger woman. She tried to place a hand on Ruby’s arm only for it to be shrugged off. Weiss watched as she began moving toward the front of the building, her eyes following her until she disappeared inside. She paused, eyes dragged back to Yang who leaned against her car. She waited for a beat before Weiss turned on her heel and left.
The brisk winter air brushed against Weiss’s skin, the loud of the city muffled by earplugs. The sound of cars driving by, horns blaring, and people talking, blended together into a muffled cacophony. She came to a stop at a crosswalk along with several other people all of which barely registered the new arrival. She glared at the walk signal, waiting for it to change and when it did, Weiss disappeared into the crowd as she crossed the street. She turned left heading down the sidewalk until she came to a storefront adorned with flowers of all kinds. They looked fresh and vibrant, despite the cold weather.
Fic continued on Ao3

Baron Portrait Commission, Episode 2
Art by jedi-art-trick; concept and commission by me
This was my second commission of my first Star Wars RPG character, created in 1990. It is mind blowing to me to see such an amazing illustration after over 30 years!
His name is Baron Darklighter, here as a Lieutenant in the Rebel Alliance, a pilot and SpecOps Team Leader. I know some of you don't think the name is original, but he was created before the EU really took off, so the only ones who knew the name Darklighter were the serious fans who had read the Novelization of A New Hope…..so there. Originally it was a test to see how much the GM, who I had just met, really knew about Star Wars, which he passed with flying colors.
