The Saracen Saber

This is the Saracen Saber, the ship of my team from the first RPG game I played, using West End Games. My character, Baron, was a pilot and the only Officer in the group and so I was placed in charge. Quite a surprise for me as a young teen in my first RPG playing with mostly adults and experienced gamers, half of them Active Duty Military, one of them I had known since I was 3. So it was indeed trial by fire! We were a Special Ops group, acting as smugglers, performing extractions, infiltrations, and other missions. She was a great ship! Originally a stock YT-1300 (Center Cockpit, obviously), with dorsal and ventral quads like the Falcon. The modification you notice in the stern was to add more cargo room was designed of all people by my sister. I thought it was cool that my sister was gaming with us, and she was a good player. However, we found out years after she quit and the game had ended that she was an Imperial spy and had led to the deaths of nearly every PC or allied NPC that had been killed!!!

Star War Rebel Pilot redesign by kvlticon. It seems like the Rebels need a full life support, so this was my idea to take the Rebel Pilot with a faceplate design inspired by the newer BattleStar Galactica

Endor Rebel Commando redesign by kvlticon. In my gaming groups, we imaged the Rebel/NR SpecForce to look more like the Colonial Marines from Aliens as we are all huge aliens fans. Even in our Darkstryder Campaign (starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Da…, we used the USCM Drop ship instead of the lame assault shuttle in the module.

Star War Rebel Fleet Trooper redesign by kvlticon. I had this idea in my head for at least 15 years, but when I explained it I would get blank stares. Really, I don't think it is that difficult. Take the dudes you see in the opening of Star Wars, and instead of the black vest they wear make it a black flack vest, add some leg and arm protection, and then mod the helmet to look way cooler but with some recognizable traits of the egg shells they wore.

The Blade's Hope by boomerangmouth. Another commission based on my former glory days playing WEG Star Wars Role Playing Game. Her Captain came from a family of shippers with strong rebel sympathies. In their backstory, the kids would grow up learning the trade in the style of midshipmen as teenagers, and then when they became adults they had to go out into the galaxy and earn enough to buy their own ship and then become a full member of the family and marry.

Commission of the Deckplan for The Sanctuary by boomerangmouth. Another player character's ship in our campaigns, based on our GM's deck plans, but with the artists changes as he felt inclined based on his feel of design. Also, it is from my suggested retcon to make her more distinguishable from the Falcon.

Baron Portrait Commission, Episode 2

This was my second commission of my first Star Wars RPG character, created in 1990. It is mind blowing to me to see such an amazing illustration after over 30 years!

His name is Baron Darklighter, here as a Lieutenant in the Rebel Alliance, a pilot and SpecOps Team Leader. I know some of you don't think the name is original, but he was created before the EU really took off, so the only ones who knew the name Darklighter were the serious fans who had read the Novelization of A New Hope…..so there. Originally it was a test to see how much the GM, who I had just met, really knew about Star Wars, which he passed with flying colors.

Rebel Service Uniform redesign ft. Lt Darklighter

Ostensibly, this was more about my idea to re-design the Rebel Service Uniform (perhaps they call it their Class B Uniform? Perhaps not) as seen originally in the 1983 film "Return of the Jedi".

If you note it is a mesh of Lando and Madine's uniforms from Jedi, with a touch of alterations and a little bit of insignia.

Note the difference in collar style

I never liked the "circuit board" they wear in Jedi, so I just replaced it with the rank badge like those seen first in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

Then, adding a functional badge, in this case pilot wings, and I imaged the collar shows what command you fall under then your specific unit (sort of like modern collar brass).

On the wrists, I imagine a crono on one and a comlink on the other, both optional items.

The blaster can be worn as desired. Baron's is worn in a gunslinger rig, but could be a shoulder holster like Lando, or on the belt.

The Siege of Kolatill

In our group's version of the DarkStryder Campaign: Shortly after her launch, the FarStar received a distress signal from the planet Kolatill. There was an Imperial Escort Carrier, the Kathol Protector, dumping TIE Bombers armed with chemical and conventional weapons. The Kathol Protector was accompanied by the Storm Bringer, a Lancer-Class Frigate, as protection. Only shortly prior to the attack on Kolatill, my character was introduced. Xan Derrycc (baronneutron.deviantart.com/ar…) had been on his way to rendezvous with the FarStar when he was attacked by this very same Imperial TaskForce. Commander Derrycc came to in the midst of the fight and headed to the bridge. He then took command and used his tactical knowledge to exploit the fact that neither Lancer's or Escort Carrier's have capital class weapons (this is important in the old West End Games SW RPG). He then ordered the ship in close to the Lancer to take advantage and to block its quad cannons from targeting her star-fighters. We then took pot shots at the Protector and used our X-wings and Y-Wings to lob proton torps at both and of course take on the TIEs. We were able to antagonize the escort carrier, and when she was close we blew up the Lancer Frigate and burst thru the explosion and laid into the escort carrier.

In the course of the fight, the shuttle carrying the Captain was killed, and Kayia Adrimertrum took command, and appointed Derrycc as her First Officer.

Volition

Volition, a commission by jedi-art-trick

This is Bryce Phoenix, a character from my days of playing TSR's Marvel Super Heroes RPG. Originally called Phorce, he is a telekinetic and later telepath and very powerful psionic. When he was first introduced I played him very lazy and irresponsible. His background was that he was the son of a computer and software developer with a large company, and I played him as skating by on his looks, charm, and money. So he really only became a hero because he met several others and then stuck around. Part of it was that in the other two campaigns I was in I played the leader (check in my gallery for Mach and Baron Darklighter), and I didn't want to be the leader. Well, eventually the game ran a long time, and the GM lead me to actually roleplay Volition into growing up, and over time…due to the original members dying off or moving on..he took leadership of Vanguard.

Costume inspired by the character of Jono on an episode of ST: TNG, and based his looks (and personality) off of Steven Weber's character on Wings.

R4-B9 "Shield"

So I had a RPG character who had an astromech, R4-B9, called Shield. While he was certainly an astromech, he was also an intelligence droid

The character was called Ensign Merritt Jonnel, but his real name was classified. He was a reconnaissance pilot and intelligence analyst for Alliance Intel. He was sent in to the Hoth System after the evacuation of the Rebel Base to determine the remaining Imperial presence, only to discover it was quite a bit more than anticipated. He barely escaped, and was adrift almost to the point of fatality. He was later rescued by an independent rebel faction, the 125th Star Cavalry, who mistook him for a distressed pilot. Given that he was stranded in any case, he joined their cause and sent reports back to Alliance HQ with requests for funds and assistance (that never materialized).

Merrit and Shield were a team, both had unassuming appearance that they exploited to gain trust and information…

FarStar Mark 1.2

This is my idea of the beginning of a series of modifications to the FarStar.  Sadly, I never had the chance to do it within a game session; its just been bouncing around in my head for 20 years.

FarStar Mark 1 is the original FarStar as presented in all the source material and the FarStar. Mark 1.1 is all internal modifications.   Mark 1.2 replaces the single turbo lasers with the same double turbo lasers that are on the top and bottom and adds a tractor beam projector.

I am hoping to commission Mark 2 and Mark 3 which are more complicated.  The basic idea is that she takes so much damage, that she has to be repaired from the keel up, and they make major mods at that time.

Crew of the Saracen Saber - Rebel SpecOps Team

The Saracen Saber's crew, a Rebel Alliance SpecOps team, I commissioned from SteelhavenStudio

This is the first team from my first RPG campaign from the good 'ol West End Games Star Wars Role Playing Game. We were a Special Ops team, mostly posing as a tramp freighter's crew while conducting missions. If you check out my gallery you can see more of the Saber. I will include the descriptions I gave the artist to help you visualize it, and also we used to use the term "template" when we had an actor or someone in mind for what we wanted our character to look like. Note that some of the descriptions are mine as we started in either '90 and not everyone remembered or cared to recall the details of their character.

Josidiah "Falcon" Starym; Jedi. Physical Template as a very young Gabriel Byrne.

Maya Sabachi; Gambler. the lady of the group. Believe it or not this is my sister's character.

Ren of the Blade; smuggler and co-pilot. The player never picked a physical template, but he was a big western fan so I always pictured a cowboy, perhaps a young Lee Marvin? If you recognize the name, yea he stole it, but actually created a big back story not related to the fantasy book the name came from.
