This beautiful girl is Mary Ann. She’s 10 months-old and FeLV+. Mary Ann is sponsored by Cathy Blackstone. SNAP Cats rescued Mary Ann from Oakland, CA. Mary Ann was adopted but then retuned to the shelter because she tested FeLV+. Alane, who has surrendered FeLV+ kitties to us in the past, saved Mary Ann from sure euthanasia, and kept her safe until we could take her here. Mary Ann is a very energetic and playful kitten. She loves to run and play with the other kittens that’re about her age. She also loves human attention, including being brushed and doted over. We rescued Clarence and Alabama from Oakville Humane Society! Clarence was 3 weeks old and had a severe bite wound when he came into Oakville Humane Society, and Alabama was a skinny orphaned kitten that came in alone. Shelter staff decided to put them together, because a single kitten is a lonely kitten! They became the best of friends in their foster home. Clarence’s bite wound healed with treatment, but it turned out the puncture had reached down to the bone, so he now walks with a bit of a limp. Unfortunately, both Clarence and Alabama tested positive for Feline leukemia virus (FeLV). Contrary to what its name implies, feline leukemia is not a type of cancer. Feline leukemia is a viral infection in cats that is spread through the secretions of infected cats and can set up shop in almost any organ in a cat’s body. No medication can eliminate FeLV, so most treatments are aimed at managing the symptoms and complications as the disease progresses. Some infected cats ultimately die from the disease, but many others can live long, comfortable lives with it, as Clarence and Alabama are doing so far. Without the results from the blood tests, you’d never know anything was wrong with them at all! Sadly, this FeLV diagnosis meant Clarence and Alabama could not return to the shelter from their foster home to be put up for adoption because FeLV is contagious from cat to cat. With as many cats as OHS cares for, they just couldn’t take the risk. OHS staff reached out to us for help, and we just happened to have a foster home who has a resident cat who also has FeLV, and they agreed to foster Clarence and Alabama! We’re just getting to know these two, and they’ll be available for adoption in a few weeks. TWO FOR TUESDAY!

Meet Frodo and Gala. They’re flying in from Dubai today where they were rescued off the streets of the UAE.

Frodo is approximately 5 years-old, and FIV+. He’s very friendly with both people and other cats. He has not been around dogs or children.

Gala is about 2-1/2 years old and FIV+/FeLV+. She’s also very friendly with humans and other cats. She’s good with children, but hasn’t been around dogs.

Both kitties should be here at about 3:30pm-ish today if you’d like to watch their arrival on our live webcams.

This is Jerry. He's about 1 year-old and FeLV+. Jerry showed up as a stray at William’s home in Fremont. He was taken to a local cat rescue group for foster care. Jerry escaped his foster’s home and showed up (again) at William’s home. Because of Jerry’s determination, William decided to keep Jerry, so he took Jerry in to be neutered, etc. That’s when they found out that Jerry is FeLV+. William has cats so he needed to find a FeLV+ rescue for Jerry.

Jerry will be joining us this Saturday at about noon. Thank you, William, for taking care of Jerry, and driving him here from Fremont!

BLACK CAT FRIDAY!

This is Dahlia. She’s about 8 months-old and FeLV+. Dhalia was living in a Target parking lot until Katie rescued her and put her in a safe location in her house. Katie says Dahlia is the sweetest, most loving, cuddly, lap kitty, and too cute for words (that’s why we have a picture!).

Katie and Dahlia are flying into Santa Rosa tomorrow (Saturday) and should be here at about 1:15-ish. Thank you, katie, for flying up (commercially) to deliver Dahli to our FeLV+ habitat!

This stunning kitten is Cara. She’s almost 5 months old and FeLV+. Cara came in this afternoon from Berkeley Animal Care Services (BACS) where she was surrendered for being FeLV+. Cara’s family acquired her through an online posting about free kittens and when they took her to their vet they found she was FeLV+. Because the family had other cats in their home they surrendered Cara to BACS.

And the rest is history.

Monty was trapped by a local TNR group, Forgotten Felines of Sonoma County, and found to be FeLV+ when he was neutered. So, since we’re the only game in town, they asked and we said sure.
