This beautiful girl is Mary Ann. She’s 10 months-old and FeLV+. Mary Ann is sponsored by Cathy Blackstone. SNAP Cats rescued Mary Ann from Oakland, CA. Mary Ann was adopted but then retuned to the shelter because she tested FeLV+. Alane, who has surrendered FeLV+ kitties to us in the past, saved Mary Ann from sure euthanasia, and kept her safe until we could take her here. Mary Ann is a very energetic and playful kitten. She loves to run and play with the other kittens that’re about her age. She also loves human attention, including being brushed and doted over. If you have a FeLV+ kitty and are looking for another, or are catless and looking to add a few kitties to your household, Mary Ann (and one of her playmates) will make a wonderful addition to your family! SNAP Cats uses Smart Cat, all natural cat litter.

Strengthening our children’s resolve and their persistence in not only understanding and respecting their differences but also understanding and accepting that changing or policing the thought patterns or acceptance levels of others is NOT their first priority is, in my opinion, an important step on the road to self-advocacy as well as the initiative to limit or even eliminate masking in the name of diverse cognitive functions. Make no mistake and consider instilling the following, first in your child, then to all that surround you: ✅ The world owes you nothing. ✅ Everyone is entitled to live, to be free, and to feel safe. #Masking is not exclusive to only the #neurodiverse among us. Rest assured, little one … we all must adapt or even pretend throughout life. But being required -or requiring of yourself- to deny your authenticity (regardless of how unique, how atypical) is simply not the way. I think the reason that special needs moms don’t always accept, “God only gives special children to special parents” is that it oversimplifies the journey.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a sweet compliment and is always said by those who truly admire us for living the journey we live.
There are a few reasons that it’s hard for many of us to hear.
1. Our children are so much stronger (and complex) than we are.
From the moment we stood by their hospital bedside for the first time, we had no choice but to be strong. Our children CHOOSE to be strong. They fight their illness, their uncontrollable mental struggles and their immeasurable pain…because it’s who they are…It’s what they know.
They teach US what true strength is…and not all of us are a “quick study”.
2. We feel each failure more deeply than the last.
Let’s just be very honest. If you feel like you know everything there is to know about being a special needs parent, you’ve got surprises around the corner. Why? Because it’s always going to be unpredictable.
There will always be things that we feel we are fail in.
*Forgot that appointment
*Therapy didn’t work out
*Having problems at school
*Bahavioral issues
3. Plain old fashion guilt.
Is it my fault? How would my child be if they were “typical”? It doesn’t make you a bad mom to mourn the normalcy that you didn’t have.
From a normal pregnancy or typical toddler years, it’s completely common for us to feel the pain of the things that might have been.
This doesn’t make you a bad mom. This doesn’t make you a crappy person. This makes you a PERSON…and it doesn’t mean that you don’t ADORE your child the way they are.
I (personally) feel anxiety at the loss on control I have over what happens in my life. It’s scary when you’ve always been an organized person who likes to know what’s coming.
But let me tell you what I know…from one special needs mom to another.
I SEE YOU.
It’s hard to understand the daily struggles from one situation to the next.
I don’t see the hard stuff that you don’t show the world, but I see you.
Your tears.
Your fear.
Your hope.
Your faith.
When people tell you you’re strong, set aside the feelings about the clichès and BELIEVE them.
Absorb those words until they’re yoyr truth.
You will fail. You will feel guilty. You are not as strong as your child.
BUT YOU ARE AMAZING.
Why? Because even in the pain, you show up.
You’re tired.
Some days the dishes don’t get done.
Some days you don’t even leave your pajamas.
Some days you’re still in a hospital room, crying and praying.
YOU are amazing. You believe it about your child…believe it about yourself.
They wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you.
Believe that you matter, and YOU ARE ENOUGH.
You matter.
You are worthy.
You are loved.
You are enough.

Posted @withregram • @thearticulateautistic Autistic Trauma: Hearing “You did that on purpose (and having no idea what they’re talking about). … “You did that on purpose!” This is one of the most triggering phrases for me to hear. As a child, it It made me freeze up instantly and my eyes go wide with terror. And the ironic thing about that reaction, which is completely trauma-based, is it looked like GUILT, which just confirmed the “validity” of the accusation for the other person. … When I didn’t freeze, I would respond with, “Did WHAT on purpose?” because I didn’t even know what they were referring to half the time—but it would only make them angrier. … And the real kicker is, I’ve been told my confused face looks like an angry scowl, so people didn’t read confusion on me, they read insolence. … If you’re neurotypical, and you have an autistic loved one, don’t start with an accusation, start with an observation. Tell them what you perceived first before asking if they did it on purpose. … Also, give context. Your autistic loved one may have very well done something on purpose but not what you think and not out of malice. Explain what it was that happened, how you interpreted what happened, and how you feel. … Remember, a neurotypical and an autistic person can be in the same room and have the same interaction and their individual brains will interpret the event in totally different ways. This is why you MUST start with telling the person what happened even if it JUST happened. … Pause. Breathe. Explain. Express. Ask. … Autistic folks, can you relate? … [ID: Mother and daughter having an intense conversation at a dining room table.] … #Autistic #Autism #AutismSpectrum #AutismAwareness #AutismAcceptance #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticAdults #AskAnAutistic #AutisticAdvocacy #AutisticRights #RedInstead #Neurodivergent #Neurodiverse #Neurodiversity #Atypical #AutismMom #AutismDad #AutismParent #SpecialNeeds #Disability https://www.instagram.com/p/Ce1TyVcOqy0mhlUpCmV2XG8-izPCopp3JDmV9k0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Autism in Children. This is how I was, as a child with autism! Autism creates a lot of issues for children in the aspect of socialising and sensory processing. I myself was a very reserved kid, I never was able to make new friends and I had a hard time coping with the friends that I actually had. I would prefer to stay indoors and play with electronics and chemistry set than go and play out on the streets with my bike and the other kids. So much so that when I have my birthday party is my parents would have to allow me to go home and take a rest during the party because it was so. I never really enjoyed birthday parties because they were too loud and the children were too much to handle for me. But I created my own coping strategy by being able to go home and just lay down on the sofa when I needed to have a break from all the hustle and bustle from the party. Always listen to your kids once in regards to birthday parties and socialising with friends, as you do not want to overload them and cause a meltdown. If you have anything to add to this conversation please pop it in a comment below. I read every single comment os it is never wasted. Follow @TheAspieWorld for more autism content.
