A few things i like to do in my free time to help me visualise my Drs
This is all a bunch of stuff i do in my free time anyway, so might as well playing around with it for shifting. It works for scripting, if you are not an artist, and want to picture your Dr self.
I am a very visual person, so it’s something that help me personally.
Life Makeover
This app is my obsession lately. It allow you to customise your character almost entirely. It’s definitely targeted more towards women, but i have seen people playing around with the character customisation to make it look more androgynous.
There is also a sims 4 like building feature. It’s not as great as the sims itself, but i managed to do a cute build. The proportions feels more realistic than the sims 4, and the general 3D and light quality is very nice for a mobile game, it’s very pretty to look at.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I recreated myself, since i don’t really change my appearance (outside the fact i am a fairy in pretty much all my drs). But it’s fun playing around with the outfits, what i would wear if i was in this universe, since there is a lot of fantasy outfit in the game.
The sims 4
I mentioned it earlier, I’m a big sims player. Every time i start a new script, i make a house or an apartment to visualise where i would live. Especially since the sims 4 base game is free now, you could just install aesthetic CC to make your dream house.
If you don’t like to build, there is plenty of option you can download in the gallery. A lot of the place I’m shifting to are fantasy setting, so i don’t always find good visualisation on Pinterest .
Tumblr media
I made this apartment for me and my best friend MHA Dr, for our attempt on group shifting. I didn’t shift yet, bit she stayed in her DR for 3 days and she said the floor plan was pretty accurate. She just said the couch was different in her dr, but I’m pretty sure it’s because she didn’t like the one i chose 🤣
Of course the fun part of the sims is to create your dr self and your dr friends and see how they interact with each other. I created a save with the intention to channel my dr through it, if that makes sense.
I have seen some unexpected things playing out 😆
For exemple my Dr parents kept wanting to make more children, and did 2 without me controlling it, my mom called me telling me they were considering doing another kid, asking me what I think. I responded it was not really for me to decide and next time I saw her in the game…she was pregnant!
I think it makes sense, since I was making the perfect parents I never had, that they like parenting and having a full house, so now I consider it part of my script. I’m the oldest of four siblings now I guess.
Room Planner
Another app, for construction this time. You don’t have to pay to use it, the free version is just a little bit more limited. It’s meant for real life building, so the proportion reflect real life and you can find plenty of ikea furniture in the catalog.
That’s everything for apps, I’m sure it has been talked about before, but I hope it can give some inspiration to other shifters

The Art Of Fallout 4
Tumblr media
Despite its technical and narrative achievements, Fallout 4 lags behind its predecessors in one regard – enemies get repetitive pretty fast, and encounters tend to rely heavily on numbers to keep fights interesting.
After you’ve been prowling the Wasteland long enough, killing enemies starts to become a chore, and little by little you start realizing that you can’t keep playing the same game for years and expect it to surprise you… without mods, that is.
Given it’s been over 200 years since humanity nearly wiped itself out, biodiversity should be through the roof rather than stunted as it looks like in Fallout 4, and since Bethesda didn’t check their science before making the game, it’s up to modders to populate the Commonwealth with new and exciting creatures.

Fallout 4 Concept Art Mod (self.fo4) submitted 3 years ago by JJBYACH So, I've been looking for a graphical overhaul that stays somewhat true to Bethesda's original vision, whilst making the game less uncanny and more exaggerated/stylised - and I've found the one for me.
Whether you’re just getting into the game and want an augmented experience from the get-go, or a returning player hoping to experience what mods have to offer in the way of creatures, you’re sure to find something you like here.
15. Absolutely Cursed
Some mods, you look at and instantly know you’re going to install them.
Tumblr media
That’s what I felt when I first saw Absolutely Cursed, a mod that adds an interesting new creature to the Wasteland – the Dead Head.
And then my game was forever cursed.
There isn’t anything quite like combat music kicking in and realizing that you’re up against hermit crabs living inside ghoul heads.
It’s like trying to induce a phobia on yourself for entertainment purposes.
14. Protected Unique Brahmin
It’s often hard for us animal lovers to play violent games where innocent wildlife may get caught in the middle of our struggle to survive.
Despite being irradiated abominations with two heads, brahmin don’t fail to activate that same caretaker instinct with their cute, absent-minded faces.
Plus I need them to poop so I can make Jet and get high off my mind.
This mod by NexusMods user HerDustIsVeryPretty helps keep your cattle healthy by making unique brahmin immortal. You can now have shootouts in your settlements to your heart’s content without worrying about your walking fertilizer factories.
13. More Realistic Cats
In the same way that brahmin risk being turned into Swiss cheese just by living in your settlements, so do cats often find themselves caught in the line of fire.
But cats are smart, right? Surely they’d be able to avoid the carnage.
Well, modder and fellow cat-lover Greslin was quick to realize that vanilla cats in Fallout 4 are little more than slow-moving targets too stupid to flee or get to cover.
Greslin fixed this by tweaking their behavioral tendencies a bit, making them smarter and avoidant of combat… and just in case, they also have more health. Protect the kitties!
12. Nightstrikers
While generally not an issue, Fallout 4 doesn’t quite have the same enemy variety some other open-world games have.
Modder Shadowliger decided that their humble contribution to improving biodiversity in the Commonwealth would be to create the local version of Nightstalkers from Fallout: New Vegas.
They called it the Nightstriker, a poisonous irradiated coyote that can really mean trouble if you’re not on top of your game.
There’s five different variants of the beast, as well as a Nightstriker companion waiting to be discovered somewhere in the Wasteland.
11. Commonwealth Critters
Among the best ways to make an open-world feel alive and realistic is filling it with wildlife just doing its own thing, not necessarily interacting with the player.
This can be resource-heavy, so, understandably, Fallout 4 developers didn’t put much emphasis on this detail.
Since nowadays most gaming PCs can run the game perfectly, modder Giggilymoeromicon thought it was high time the Wasteland was repopulated, so they added several spawn points all over the Commonwealth for small passive animals to do just that.
10. Institute Centaurs
Bethesda had many creatures planned for Fallout 4 that never really made it into the game.
Among them were the Institute Centaurs, which have nothing to do with what you’re thinking about when you hear the word “centaur”.
Modder TheFriedTurkey, along with their team, decided to bring this scrapped content back from the trashcan, making new models, textures, and animations to bring it to life.
Concept Artist Jobs
The result is a horribly deformed, badly spliced abomination that looks just like the one in Fallout 4’s concept art. Charming.
9. Gojira 2.5 – Standalone Giant Deathclaw
If you want to add a new formidable enemy but aren’t quite fond of the “Please kill me now” vibe the Institute Centaurs give off, perhaps you should consider introducing some kaiju goodness into your Wasteland.
This mod by creator Neeher adds a new Legendary Deathclaw named after the Japanese version of Godzilla – Gojira.
This name makes more sense once you see its size, which is seven times that of a regular deathclaw.
This towering beast presents a serious challenge to anyone not armed with a Fat Man or something of the sort, and the way it randomly spawns at any point while exploring the Wasteland makes it feel just like being attacked by a dragon in Skyrim.
8. Plutonium Creatures
Seeking to add both new challenges and more variety to Fallout 4, modder Hopper31 created an entirely new tier of enemies – Plutonium Creatures.
These orange-glowing horrors are what happens when a regular glowing variant comes into contact with a municipal plutonium well, becoming even stronger.
There are currently 20 plutonium creatures, and while they’re effectively OP when compared to their normal counterparts, they also won’t start spawning until several levels later.
This way they’ll be a challenge without completely breaking your game.
7. Glowing Animals Emit Light
A perfect companion mod for Plutonium Creatures is Glowing Animals Emit Light by MM137, an add-on that turns glowing variants of creatures into light sources, as they should always have been.
Tumblr media
This will make fighting strong enemies in the darkness a much more immersive experience, albeit a somewhat easier one as well.
Getting mauled at midnight by a radioactive Yao Guai had never looked this cool.
Best Visual Mods Fallout 4
6. More Deathclaw Variety
Deathclaws have always been beautiful killing machines that never fail to rip me to shreds when I get distracted admiring the spiky beauty of their being.
Modder Hopper31 apparently agrees, so they decided to add over 20 new varieties of deathclaw into the game – all using only vanilla assets.
Red Deathclaws, Glowing Deathclaws, and even Albino Deathclaws may now come out at any moment to separate you from your limbs in style – and you’ll be thankful for the spectacle.
5. Crows and Creatures
Of course, there’s no point in upgrading deathclaws if you’re going to leave everything else the same.
Instead of adding more variety, modder Xazomn decided to upgrade the textures of every creature in the Wasteland so they look more detailed and, in consequence, lifelike.
Gone are the days of playdoh models of radioactive dogs with shiny, beady eyes trying to kill you.
Now you can get disemboweled by a pack of abominations without breaking your immersion.
4. True Legendary Enemies
Are you tired of “legendary” enemies having boring, run-of-the-mill names like “Legendary Thingamabob” instead of something special?
Don’t legends have proper names?
Modder Pwnstar fixes that by giving each and every Legendary enemy in the Wasteland either an epic, intimidating name or something a little more lighthearted.
I’ll never forget my first encounter with Dominatrix Alpha, the Legendary Assaultron, and I still get fits of laughter when remembering the time I faced a Radroach called Gorbash The Devourer.
3. Deadlier Deathclaws
Deathclaws look terrifying and are fittingly strong as hell when you first encounter them in the Commonwealth, but once you get the hang of things, such events become underwhelming.
Creator Mpankey decided to fix this by buffing these Dragons of The Wasteland considerably – as well as adding stronger varieties such as the Quantum Deathclaws that were cut from the Nuka World DLC.
If you want to test out just how much stronger they are, head to the hills west of the Glowing Sea, where you’ll find a cave overrun with deathclaws that’s appropriately called The Devil’s Den.

2. D.E.C.A.Y – Better Ghouls
Among the most common enemies in Fallout 4 are feral ghouls, former humans turned into quasi-immortal mindless shells, gone crazy due to hunger and suffering.
With such a horrible backstory, it’s kind of underwhelming just how leathery and old they look.
To fix this, modder Thumblesteen replaced their textures and models with something reflecting decay rather than mummification.
The Art Of Fallout 4
Tumblr media
Now, these radioactive zombies feature exposed bones, skin mold, missing limbs, and much more – all in glorious 2K textures.
1. Respawnable Legendary Bosses and Hard Legendary Giant Creatures
After playing the game several times and experiencing the godly powers of maxed-out characters, most of us start finding the vanilla creatures and bosses increasingly boring.
To keep things spicy for seasoned players, modder Charrisx decided to place many respawnable Legendary creatures hidden throughout the Commonwealth so that there’s never a dull moment in your adventure.
This mod adds 27 unique bosses, including a bunch of giant abominations that’ll make you feel as if you’re playing Monster Hunter World.

Before their paths had crossed, she had resigned herself to an existence void of the excitement, passion, and the simple enjoyment of a life in love that she consumed every day in her books. Their worn and yellowed pages held stories of adventure, mystery, and her personal favorite, romance, etched onto pages that held the ability to transport the novel’s reader. She turned to their worn leather binding as a way to escape her own dismal and boring life, living vicariously through star crossed lovers, double agent spies, and explorers who had set out to find the fountain of youth.
The tall tales were never enough to fill the void or tame her desire to escape, but they placed a temporary bandage on the wound she would rather keep covered.
She spent most of her time among her books, curled into the small pink velvet couch that sat next to the large fireplace, immersing herself into the words on the page and the silence that surrounded her, as she reveled in the warmth of the open flame. The library was the one place in the large estate that felt like a home to her. Books lined the walls, placed carefully into floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. Most of them had been read through already, patiently awaiting their turn to be picked up once again for her to experience another journey through their pages.
She chased a homey solace within those four walls, a comfortability she could never obtain anywhere else on her husband’s large estate. The mansion was a massive stone fortress that sat on acres of land she had never been granted permission to fully explore. The greatest freedom allowed to her were the well mannered and dignified walks she took around the garden, sometimes a trip to the small stream that ran across the edge of the property with a book tucked into her basket; but as winter fell, as it always did, she was forced back into her library.
Snow fell gently outside, covering the large and manicured lawns with a bright white blanket of quiet, but her concentration and tranquility were startled away from her when three too loud knocks fell onto the large mahogany door. She knew the knocks well, and exactly who they belonged to. They were the only ones that ever seemed to disturb her.
“Dear,” she heard her husband, William, call through the door. “May I come in?” He was boring and overbearing, but he was always polite when it came to her library. She could give him that.
“Of course,” she hummed in a slight annoyance, hearing the door swing open with a creak, as she tucked her bookmark into Gulliver’s Travels’ well loved pages. It was hard for her to tear her eyes from the book, not yet fully out of the story land she had been consumed by for hours now, but when she did, she was met with two men instead of one.
“I wanted to introduce you to the new groundskeeper, Mr. Styles.” William spoke far too loud for her quiet room and in his usual dull tone, which was somehow made even more boring by the beautiful man standing next to him.
Mr. Styles was striking.
He had chocolate brown curls that fell in tousled waves pushed back from his forehead and vibrant green eyes that zeroed in on her with an intense but friendly gaze. A polite smile graced his pink lips which caused a pair of dimples to ghost over his cheeks, softening his rather imposing large figure.
He was tall and had broad shoulders and muscular arms that didn’t completely fit into his vest and suit jacket, and she could tell he was uncomfortable in such formal dress. He stood perfectly straight up and down, like any sudden movements might bust him out of the most likely hand me down outfit, and his slightly awkward appearance made it difficult for her to fight off a more than friendly smile.
She moved towards him, the pink roses embroidered on the delicate white fabric of her dress falling down around her as she stood from the couch, and with a greeting knod of her head, she extended her hand towards him to delicately shake. His hands were frozen as he took her hand and bowed his head to her, a side effect of the snow blanketing the ground outside, but they were also strong and calloused.
Their contact shot a spark up her arm, assuredly from the cold of his fingertips.
“It’s delightful to meet you, Mr. Styles,” she spoke with a soft but confident voice, bowing her own head towards him gently as he released her hand.
“Thank you for having me, Lady Taylor,” he spoke smoothly, with a deep and musical voice, his sharp jaw brushing against the starched high fabric of his collar. She liked the way he spoke and made a note to make sure she heard more of it in the future.
She hoped she had controlled her face and didn’t outwardly cringe when he called her by her formal title and her husband’s last name. It was an identifier she deeply loathed, representative of all she had become. She looked forward to whenever they got a moment away from her husband and she could ask him to call her Y/N, similar to moments she had in the past with all of the staff in the mansion.
“Of course,” she smiled. “We’re glad to have you.”
“He’ll be staying in the cottage on the east side of the property,” William informed her, bringing her attention back to him.
“That is the one near the stream with the ivy on it, if I’m not mistaken. Correct?” she directed her question towards her husband, toeing the line of an appropriate amount of small talk, while also encouraging the conversation to move fast so she could return to her book.
“That’s the one,” the dull man answered with a nod. “I’m going to show him to it now. I wanted to introduce him because you might be seeing him around the estate.” He paused, stepping closer to her and she felt her muscles tense slightly. “We wouldn’t want you getting startled by a stranger, now would we, darling?”
“No, we wouldn’t,” she answered with a tight lipped smile. She could never get used to his patronizing tone, even after three years as his wife. With a deep breath, she steeled herself as he got even closer, reaching his hand out and pushing a curl that had fallen from her gathered bun at the base of her neck behind her ear, then pressing a kiss to her cheek that lasted far too long to be in front of a guest. Her cheeks heated in embarrassment and she watched as Mr. Styles’ gained an uncomfortable blush to his as well.
With a patch of dampness still clinging to her cheek, William backed away and returned to their new guest’s side.
“It was lovely to meet you,” the new man said, a seemingly sympathetic look in his eye. “Your library is beautiful.”
His complement of her books brought a hint of joy back to her features. “Thank you very much. If you ever need anything to read, I may have something you could borrow,” she chuckled, raising her hand to gesture towards the rows and rows of books. “I can only read so many at a time.”
“I will keep that in mind,” he said, his lips perking up in a sideways smile that showed off one of his dimples.
William left the room without anything else to say, Mr. Styles following soon after, but for some reason she could not shake the sound of his voice and the look of his dimple from her mind. Even when she settled back down next to the fire, knees tucked up beneath her and Gulliver’s Travels back in her hands, his face remained. She found herself rereading sentences two or three times before comprehending them, her focus lost to the handsome man who was now living in the small ivy covered cottage. She was intrigued.
A few days passed before she saw him again.
Once again, he had roused her from a book while she read, making an awful scraping noise as he tried to remove the ice hanging from the outdoor windowsill of her library. He must have been watching her through the window because when her head shot up to investigate the noise, he already held an apologetic look in his eyes and mouthed ‘I’m sorry!’ to her through the window. He looked quite cute like that and she couldn’t help but release a laugh.
She decided to abandon the epic love story she had been consuming, choosing to focus on another object of interest as she moved towards the large window and opened it. A frigid wind seemed to slap her in the face, making her realize just how red his nose was. She could only guess how cold he was and how long he had been scraping ice off the house in only a flimsy wool coat.
“I am so sorry I disturbed you, Lady Taylor,” he profusely apologized, but she only smiled in return.
“No trouble at all,” she shook her head. “And please call me Y/N. I’m only Lady Taylor in front of my husband.”
His face held a slight surprise, obviously unfamiliar with such a casual relationship with his bosses. “Oh, alright then, Y/N.” He held a shy grin on his face as he looked up at her through the window, extending a hand for her to shake. “Well then, call me Harry.”
Harry, she repeated to herself. It suited him. She liked his name and the way his strong jaw and pink lips moved when he said it.
Their hands met in a less formal handshake this time, her body hanging halfway out the window into the cold to reach him. The same shocks made their way up her arm again and she blamed them on his frozen hand.
“Harry,” she started, liking the way his name felt on her lips. “You seem like you are about to freeze to death out there. Why don’t you come in for a cup of tea?”
She knew her husband wouldn’t be home for at least another hour, a result of meticulously monitoring his schedule for the last three years in an effort to appreciate her limited freedom to its fullest. William was a creature of habit, spending every Wednesday across the county with his younger brother in his own massive home; allowing her time to relax, no longer held to the absurdly formal high standards her husband held for ‘the lady of the house.’ And today, she decided she could exercise that freedom by inviting Harry in for tea.
“I couldn’t,” he tried to politely deny, bound by strict rules of etiquette in ‘high society,’ whatever that meant.
“I insist. You look frost bitten.”
When he nodded his head in concession, she couldn’t help the bright and triumphant smile that stretched across her features.
It wasn’t long before she was leading him through the massive home towards the servants quarters and her favorite part of the mansion: the kitchen. As they walked, they moved under ornate arches and impressively high ceilings, passing walls decorated with portraits of her husband’s dead relatives that seemed to judge the two commoners as they passed. She assumed her husband hadn’t given Harry a tour of the main house, as every time she snuck a peak at him, his eyes were wide in amazement at the lavish home.
The deep maroon satin fabric of her dress flowed behind her as she led him down winding hallways and past massive grand staircases. The grandiose decorations and atmosphere began to dwindle as they made their way to the servants quarters, the house taking on a much more bare-bones look. The hallways were smaller and left a pale white, a stark contrast to the brightly colored walls that lived in the rest of the house.
He followed her down a small spiral staircase that opened into a kitchen that emitted a welcoming warmth the rest of the sterile house lacked. A large stone fireplace was set into the wall to their right and copper pots and pans hung from the walls. A large cabinet held stacks and stacks of dishes of every sort and a perpetually bubbling pot of water hung over the open flame. But the centerpiece of the room was the long wooden table that was covered in flour and surrounded by smiley women kneading balls of dough.
“Hello sweetheart!” chimed one of the women from the table, her older round face framed by grey hair holding onto flushed cheeks and a wide smile. Her grin seemed to calm an anxiety that was perpetually inside her. “How are you doing today?”
“I’m doing very well. Thank you, Mary,” she smiled back at her. “How are you?”
“She’s been talking our ears off all day, Y/N,” the youngest girl, Grace, piped up from across the table, her long black hair pulled from her face in a ponytail that reached her bum. She couldn’t have been older than 16. “Thank goodness you came down here to distract her for a moment.”
“Oh hush, Grace,” Mary playfully scolded her before turning her attention back to Y/N. “My boy had the highest marks in his class this week. Isn’t that just incredible?”
“That’s fantastic!” she exclaimed, knowing how hard the boy had been working on his studies as of late from how highly his mother always spoke of him.
“It’s all because you let him borrow your books,” the older woman said in a softer and more sincere tone. “He reads them so fast now and his instructors are so impressed.”
“I am always happy to lend them to Robert. He’s such a good boy. I always miss him in the winter when it is too cold for him to come to the grounds to play.”
“Spring will be here soon enough,” the last woman at the table, Siobhan, spoke up in a thick Irish accent. Her fiery red curls were pinned up on top of her head and flour was smudged onto her freckled nose.
“The almanac predicts that we should have an early spring this year,” Y/N heard Harry’s deep voice cut into their conversation behind her. She watched as all the eyes belonging to the women at the table went wide in his direction like they hadn’t noticed him prior.
“Ladies, this is Harry Styles,” she introduced him, turning back to face him just long enough to take in his shy and somewhat awkward wave to the women. “He’s the new groundskeeper.”
“What happened to John?” Grace asked in a slight whine, her face falling in disappointment at the news.
“She had a crush on John,” Siobhan cut in quickly to give Harry context. And while Grace denied her infatuation with a defiant ‘did not,’ her cheeks betrayed her as they turned a beet red.
“William said he got married or something of the sort,” Y/N lied, knowing William had fired him during a particular mood swing. While she held a deep distaste towards her husband, she was afraid to hint at that to the women in the event they didn’t follow his explicit orders due to their second hand dislike of him. She would never forgive herself if they happened to lose their jobs because of her.
These women were her only friends and she cherished them.
“Good for him,” Mary said before quickly turning her attention back to the curly man in the corner, staring at him intensely, as if she could see all his deepest secrets if she just looked hard enough. “It’s good to meet you, Harry,” she finally spoke, voice holding a motherly suspicion. “How did you become a groundskeeper?”
He seemed shocked that anyone would ask him a question at all, stammering slightly as he answered. “I always enjoyed being outside when I was a child, and as I got older, I found that I had quite the green thumb,” he spoke shyly, pulling his hand from behind his back to flash the ladies a thumbs-up. “I started working on estates a few years ago and I send whatever I can back to my mum and sister in Cheshire.”
At the mention of his mother and sister, Mary’s face softened.  All in the room could tell that she had deemed him trustworthy and respectable, pushing away her worst nightmares of him having bad intentions on the estate she ran inside and out.
“What a good boy,” she spoke jovially, like if she was closer to him she could have pinched his blushed and dimpled cheeks.
“Well,” Y/N began in an attempt to change the subject, “Harry has been out in the cold for who knows how long so I’m going to fix us up a cup of tea.”
“Y/N, that is what we are here for,” Siobhan said, letting out a chuckle.
“Oh no,” she waved her off, making her way towards the cabinet and retrieving a sachet of her favorite tea and a teapot. “You’re all busy and I am very capable of making my own.”
She felt Harry’s eyes on her, surely confused about the relationship she had with her staff, as she skillfully navigated around the kitchen. She knew she looked out of place wearing her formal dress, a jeweled belt even wrapped around the empire waistline, as she moved about with the women in aprons covered in flour. But she felt comfortable here, like she was experiencing a loving hug from an old and less stressful life she once lived.
Soon she was holding a silver tray with an ornately decorated tea set delicately placed upon it, Harry trailing behind her while she carried it back to her library without spilling a drop. He continued to watch her with an inquisitive eye as she expertly crafted teas for both of them, although she knew his chill had long left his bones, before she settled onto her pink couch, Harry sitting in a matching armchair across from her.
“The way you are looking at me makes me think I owe you an explanation,” she smirked over her tea cup as she brought it to her lips.
“Ma’am,” he began, but corrected himself to “Y/N,” after she shot him a playful yet disapproving look. “You don’t owe me anything.”
“Fine then. I’m just going to talk to myself and if you happen to hear details about my life that might help you understand me and this house a bit more, then so be it.” She spoke calmly, with a regality that she had spent years perfecting.
Harry’s lips perked up with a closed lipped smile that seemed to say ‘you got me’ and an attentive gaze, signalling her to go on.
“I think it is probably quite obvious at this point that I did not grow up in wealth like this,” she started, ready to explain herself to the man across from her for some reason she couldn’t pinpoint. “I’m friendly with the staff because I was one for most of my life. I was a servant girl growing up, very much like Grace. My family did not have much other than too many children and I left home to start work in estates like this one when I was 11.”
He watched quietly from his seat, not giving her much of a reaction at all.
“I met William when I was 17, when I started working for his aunt in her home. He tried to propose, for the first time, after I knew him for three weeks, but his mother said no because I wasn't born into the nobility. And honestly, I was relieved because I did not like him one bit.”
Harry let out a small chuckle at her words that quickly and involuntarily brought a grin to her face.
“His mother died two years later and he proposed again, no longer needing her blessing as he then became the head of their family. He offered me the world if I were to accept. He told me that we would travel and see the sights and that he would support my dream of becoming a writer. But most of all, he promised to take care of my family financially.” She took a long sip of her tea and swallowed hard before finishing the most painful part of her story. “So I accepted, but he never followed through on any of his promises.”
“William isn’t a bad man,” she continued, “although he isn’t a particularly good one either. He likes control of his house and his wife. It is I that made a naive promise to him and I have spent every day of the last three years paying for it.”
She watched as Harry’s exterior softened slowly as she spoke with radical honesty, looking like he wasn’t sure what to say that could comfort her. While she retold the story in a calm, cool, and collected manner, she hoped she was able to fully conceal her true hurt that attempted to fight it’s way to her face.
“Well,” she said with a cheerful new tone to her voice, brushing off her somber and self-pitying mood, “now that I have spoken about myself and you may have heard some of it, would you like some more tea?”
He raised his eyebrows inquisitively at her sudden change in tone, but decided not to push it any further. “I would,” he nodded. She felt his eyes on her as she stood up and made her way back to the tea pot, wishing she could read his mind. When she returned, she poured his tea carefully and went to set the pot back down, but she was stopped when his hand grasped onto hers.
His skin was now warm, hot even, from his tea cup; but the same shocks still remained when he touched her. She couldn’t help but notice how well her hand fit in his. Her eyes first found where he held her, both of his hands cradling one of her’s gently, then they flickered to his face. Emerald green eyes bored into her own, that surely held an element of shock in them at their contact. His face was soft and sympathetic as he looked up at her from his seat. “Y/N,” he sighed, goosebumps forming over her arms as she felt his warm breath float over her skin. “I’m sorry.”
Before she could answer, she heard the familiar roll of the wheels of her husband’s carriage begin to crunch on the gravel outside the window. Her eyes shot towards the sound coming from the circular driveway and she regretfully peeled her hand away from his own, immediately missing his warmth.
“You have to go,” she instructed softly. “Head out the door to your left, make a right at the end of the hallway, and then head down the second staircase. There’s a door that leads out to the back garden on the left.” Her directions were detailed and concise, like she had used the escape route herself many times.
Harry quickly scurried out of the chair and towards the door she was now holding open for him, but before he made his departure he turned back to look at her one more time. “Thank you for the tea, Y/N,” he said, previous panic traded for sincerity on his face.
“You’re welcome, Harry. I quite enjoy your company,” she confessed. “We will have to do this again.”
He smiled softly before turning on the ball of his foot and taking off down the hallway. As he rounded the corner and disappeared, she heard the front door open and William’s lumbering footsteps clomp onto the shiny marble tile of the foyer. Her eyes flickered back towards the two tea cups that sat on the small table in the library, knowing if William came to find her, he would inquire about who she had tea with. Gritting her teeth and letting out a sigh, she made her way to the front door to greet him.  But not before she closed the library door tight behind her and made a mental note to ask Mary to retrieve the cups.
“Hello my dearest,” she breathed through her perfectly rehearsed smile. “How was your visit with Gregory today?”
“Fine,” he dismissed, leaning in to kiss her cheek and scratching her skin with the stubbly mustache he was desperately trying to grow for some reason. “What’s for dinner?”
“I can go ask Mrs. Jefferson if you would like,” she offered, always feeling odd when she referred to Mary by her last name. He didn’t answer her with words, just a negative grunt that she assumed was denying her attempt at escape.
“Is that a new corset?” he asked abruptly and she watched in disgusted horror as his eyes settled in on her chest. She knew that she was just a warm body to him most of the time, but his grotesque excuses for manners always shocked her.
She pressed her lips together into a hard line, holding back every awful thing she could think of that she wanted to spit in her husband’s direction. Instead, she just sighed and gave him a kurt “yes.”
“Alright,” he grumbled. “They looked bigger. I thought you might finally be pregnant.”
Just the thought of being pregnant with William’s child made her want to refund her lunch onto his riding boots. She could only imagine what a child consisting half of him would look like. She hoped it wouldn’t inherit his bulbous nose, or his beady eyes, or his sparse black hair that seemed to be perpetually greasy.
She prayed every day that the rank smelling tea Mary gave her to drink every morning was enough to stave off a pregnancy forever. It came from a healer woman a few counties over, that some insisted was a witch, but the tea had kept her from falling pregnant so far and she had no plans of stopping her morning routine anytime soon. She didn’t care if the woman was Satan himself, as long as she never began to swell with whatever creature William routinely attempted to put inside her.
“No.” She tried to sound regretful. “I started my cycle this morning.”
“Too bad,” he said, eyes still staring down the front of her dress. “We will just have to keep trying.”
He eventually stopped oggoling her, starting down the hallway and leaving her in the foyer without another word. She let out the sigh of relief that she always did when he left her, releasing the tightly wound ball of stress inside of her that tightened whenever he was near, but she felt it return to her when she sat down at the long dining room table for dinner later that day.
She sipped her wine carefully, watching her husband scarf down his meal at the other head of the table, thankful for the long wooden surface that kept her far from him. But for the first time in forever, her husband and his revolting habits were not at the forefront of her mind.
Her thoughts were occupied almost exclusively by Harry. Surely it was because he was new, like when a little girl receives a new doll and it becomes the center of her universe until the novelty wears off. She also realized she knew almost nothing about him, cursing herself for overrunning their conversation with her own story before they were rudely interrupted. But the small fragments she did know about him, like his love of nature, the care he took for his mother and sister, and his general kindness and care for those around him, had begun to take root in her brain and she just couldn’t shake him.
“What are you thinking about?” William seemed to shout across the table, pulling her from her dreamland.
“I was trying to decide what china pattern we should use for this year’s spring gala,” she lied seamlessly.
“There will be no spring gala this year,” he said with a mouth full of food. “I’ll be in France on business.”
The spring gala was the highlight of her dismal life and she couldn’t help but feel like she had just been punched in the gut by the news. It was a celebration on the spring solstice that the Taylor family had been holding for the last century and was the most lavish and exciting event of the year. There was endless food and drink among lively music and beautiful opulent gowns, but most of all, there were people. This party was a priceless connection to the outside world and to have it ripped away like this was heartbreaking.
“But I’ve already had a dress made,” she weakly argued, picturing the light blue satin ball gown overlaid with a delicate white floral lace.
“You can wear it next year. I have to go to France for six weeks.”
“What is in France that is so important?”
William let out a frustrated huff and looked up from his plate for the first time to shoot her a threatening glare. He was not used to this sort of push back from the usually docile woman, even if her passivity was a meticulously rehearsed act. “A lady should not concern herself with her husband’s business.”
Knowing not to push the conversation, she kept her mouth shut but shot him angry daggers for the duration of the meal. She barely touched her food, but she continued to drain and refill her wine glass.
He pushed himself away from the table after his plate was all but licked clean, looking over at her crossed arms and slumped drunk body in the chair at the other end of the room. “I know you enjoy the gala,” he spoke as gentle as his brooding voice could. “But we will not be discussing this manner any further.”
“Fine,” she said curtly. When he turned to leave the room, she childishly stuck her purple tongue out behind him. She listened to the small bursts of air Grace released next to her, stifling laughter. She grinned lazily at the young girl clearing his plate. “What a pompous knob,” she muttered as she pushed herself away from the table and exited the grand dining room through the opposite exit William had taken. She heard Siobhan’s delicate footsteps following behind as she marched towards her bedroom, the thoughtful woman knowing she wouldn’t be able to undo her tightly laced corset with her currently clumsy fingers.
Siobhan held her hand and securely guided her up one of the many massive staircases that inhabited the mansion, saving her when she tripped on the fabric of her dress. Y/N was thankful for her support, but couldn’t stop thinking about how her contact with Harry felt earlier in the day felt so different. She had originally attributed the electric feeling to the cold, and then considered it a result of not being touched by another person in so long. But Siobhan’s hand did not hold the same sparks.
She stood facing the mirror in her bedroom and stared at herself as Siobhan carefully removed the layers upon layers of her clothing. Her fingers skillfully released the corset from her body and Y/N took in what felt like the first real breath she had taken all day, leaving her in the bright white shift dress that was the first layer she put on every morning.
“Siobhan,” she spoke softly as if she didn’t want to disturb the silence, “do you believe in true love?”
She was quiet for a moment before she answered. “I think I do.”
“Do you think everyone gets to have it?”
“I think everyone has chances, but not everyone actually gets it.”
“Do you think a life with William is a life worth living?”
Y/N’s own question startled herself, her lips letting the words materialize and fall from them without her consent. Her eyes fell towards the floor, unwilling to make eye contact with the other woman in the mirror after the jarring question.
“Y/N, you have had a tad too much wine tonight to be asking big questions like that.”
“I know.” Her voice was just above a whisper and laced with shame. “Will you get me my nightgown? I want to go down to the library and read before bed.” Siobhan nodded behind her, slipping the lilac fabric and wrapping a cream colored night robe around her, before helping her back down the stairs and into her library.
She ripped a dark red leather bound book off the shelf, not particularly caring what it was called or what it was about, plopping herself down on the ground next to the warm fireplace. She just needed to be somewhere else, transported far away from the nightmare that had become her life.
It took three pages before tears began to prick at the back of her eyes. This book wasn’t a tale of pirates, or war, or mythology; it was a romance, one she had read before. It told of a soldier returning home from war to rescue his one true love from a domineering stepmother, sweeping her off her feet and escaping to start a new life together. She remembered that they lived happily ever after at the end.
She couldn’t help the jealousy and sadness that boiled within her, mourning for a love and a life she would never get to have. She would be trapped within the giant fortress that had been designed to keep enemies out, but had ended up keeping her shut inside with her own nemesis. She grieved for a life she would never be able to experience.
A gentle knock on the door interrupted her wallowing. She didn’t recognize it. Mary knocked loudly, but only once, and William always knocked three times, with Grace and Siobhan usually knocking softly twice.
She unwillingly dragged her still wobbly limbs off the ground and made her way towards the door. When she opened it, she was met with the bright green eyes that had been stuck in her head all day.
“Harry,” she greeted with a weak smile, trying her best to wipe all her tears off of her hot and angry cheeks. “What are you doing here?”
“I was hoping to borrow a book from your collection, but I can come back later,” he said hurriedly, eyebrows knitting together as he took in her tears.
“No, come in,” she said, sniffling and stepping aside so he could enter.
“Y/N,” he said with concern in his voice, his gaze narrowing in on her like the books no longer existed, abandoning his original goal of the visit. “Are you alright?”
“I’ll be fine,” she assured him, not sure if she was telling the truth or not. She held her robe close to her body, trying to hide herself from embarrassment, refusing to make eye contact with him and directing her attention towards the walls. “Uh-,” she stumbled over her words, “what kind of book were you looking for?”
He got the hint to stop his line of questioning about her emotional state, turning his body to face the walls as well. “I was going to ask you for recommendations.”
Her heart swelled with his words. No one had asked her about her opinions on anything other than drapes or china patterns in years. In this house, she was meant to be a proper lady, and proper ladies weren’t allowed to have brains with real thoughts or opinions.
“I have a few,” she cleared her throat. “I keep my favorites on this shelf,” she said, directing him to follow her. The shelf was at eye level for her and when she went to stand in front of it, she felt Harry hovering over her shoulder, his warm breath falling over the skin on the back of her neck. He was too close, far too close for ‘proper society,’ and too close for a married woman to be to a single man. But she couldn’t bring herself to ask him to move back because all she wanted in the world was for him to move even closer.
“These are adventure stories,” she stammered and pointed to a few, thrown off by his proximity, “and these are mysteries.” He hummed in her ear as she spoke. “And these,” she spoke softly and pointing towards the largest section of books, “are romance.”
She stepped aside so he could examine the spines of the novels, watching closely as he recited their names under his breath, perfect pink lips moving smoothly as he spoke quietly. She couldn’t take her eyes off of them. She jumped when he moved to grab a book off the shelf, breaking the trance she had fallen into as she took in his incandescent glow.
“I think I’ll take this one,” he said just above a whisper when he turned back to face her, his face hovering only inches above hers. Their faces were so close, one move and their lips would connect, indulging herself in her wildest fantasies since she had met this man only days ago. He brought the book up beside their faces and she quickly stole a glance.
Pride and Prejudice, was embossed in gold on the dark purple cover. It was new, but had quickly become her favorite romance of all time.
Her eyes connected with his once again, taking in the mischievous glint they held and the boyish smirk that had found its way onto his lips. His smile was contagious, her previous angry tears swapped for a small grin of her own. “Who doesn’t love a romance?” he asked her, smirk turning into a dimpled grin.
She wanted to reach out and grab him by the lapels of his jacket when he stepped back from her and pull his face to meet her own. She wanted to tell him not to go, to lock the door, and take her on the couch. She wanted to ask him to take her far away from this fortress and never return again. But she didn’t. She just let him walk to the door, a new book tucked under his arm.
“Before I go,” he said abruptly, turning around once again to face her. “I have a question.”
“I have an answer,” she quipped, earning a laugh from the man that sounded like the most beautiful symphony she could have ever imagined.
“There’s ivy crawling up the house on the east wall. Would you like me to take it down?”
His words reminded her that he wasn’t some gallant rescuer coming to save her from a loveless marriage and bring her to a better life. No, he was the groundskeeper of her husband’s estate. Her heart sank slightly, but she was glad to be back in reality.
“Let it grow,” she instructed softly. “Let’s see where it goes.”

i wanna ask, what sort of traits or features you're specially attracted to Kanato, it could be anything such as his fucking hot voice (i mean i myself love yuki kaji ♡(> ਊ <)♡), appearance or behaviour, anything?
Hmm, good question!!! I myself to this day question myself on this same topic KKKKK
Hiii!!! 🥰🥰💖 thanks for the ask!! And well, if you ask then I'll tell you a bit about me and my reasons to like so much Kanato!
What attracts me most about Kanato is his appearance mostly!! And I do not say that is the cute and his childish face, but for his aesthetics! His style, clothes, accessories, and well the iconic purple hair😩😩💜💜
Since I was a child I was extremely attracted by the purple color, a good example are the barbie movies where I was NEVER Barbie herself but her FRIEND in a purple dress KSKSKKS Not just on the barbie which I was a fan of, but anywhere where there was a character in purple I already looooved im just a weak for the purple color. Movies, animes, mangas, animations, cartoons: It was always purple.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are Yumi from Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi; MY QUEEN Ino Yamanaka from Naruto (since 9 yrs until this day im her biggest fan😭😭💜) ; Plum Pudding from Strawberry Shortcake; Barbie princess & Popstar; Viveca from Barbie and the 3 Musketeers ; Alexa from Barbie and the Diamond Castle grrr I just love girls and purple princess 😩😩💜😭
And coincidentally, Kanato has this exact same palette of purple colors yeah???? 💜💜😭 (despite being a "normal" girl and then talking ab a sick)
Tumblr media
But beyond that, Kanato brings with it a more androgen and feminine appearance to a certain extent and come on, I'm a weak bi for this too. His eyes are soooo lovely, he must have such a sweet smell and such a delicate touch. Just imagining his soft, cold fingers I get so 💖🥰💖💖🥰🥰💕💖💖💕🥰🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
Moreover, for having grown up as an emo addicted to black color I today greatly appreciate and gothic culture, a bit of pastel fashion too!! 🥰🥰 I love these pinterest Victorian outfits and if I could I would wear them until I die!! But as a 19 yrs in a tropical country with beaches, I will never be able to wear it because of the heat.
Tumblr media
And well, I know Kanato would show up wearing lolita clothes but I'm not a big fan of that boy/girl childish aesthetic, and I prefer to imagine him just wearing more comfortable and softer black/pastel clothes. Something like pastel goth.
So well!!! To like Diabolik Lovers, each of us has to have peculiar and sadistic tastes to some extent, especially in the case of beautiful young vampires soooo to like strange, morbid, dubious, seductive characters and omg Kanato fits in that mainly 😱???!!!!! I Met him by anime in 2016 at my 13 years and i wasn't very interested, but at the age of my 17 years I saw him through the anime once again and those dark circles... the fangs... the blood... purple hair, the clothes and his voice... cmonnn his skin is almost gray and he's in love with death and dolls, he looks sick psycho and obssessive there's any way to like him even more??? Kkkkkk🤪🤪 idk i've always liked weird and eccentric characters more.
Tumblr media
His voice is also a great... cosiness. I fell in love with his voice because I love singers of beautiful voices and songs, usually. Just an old to like orchestra and opera😓 let's not fail to notice that Kanato suits in that in therms of music, like the ones I mostly like that is "Nocturne" of Frédéric Chopin and "The nutcracker" of Tchaikovsky (the one the most suits Kanato 🗣️).
Kanato has one of the most yummy voices and grunts in the franchise and that I came to hear in all my life. It's so sweet and smooth while it manages to sound wicked and dirty 😩 It's mesmerizing. He's tasty asf 💜 I could hear him sing without complaining in no time.
Now finally, a question!! You know that saying where the characters we like the most are the ones who look like us?? Yeah!! That one!
I am OBVIOUSLY not like Kanato, nor do I share the same experiences and traumas as him. But I don't know, I like the "healthy" and sweet mature part of him, because that's where I most identify. Mostly the arts part, make works and sculptures, sing, sew and practice handmadet 😭😭💕💕💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Now the all the mental disorder, toxic gaslighting red flags (oh I hate that about him 🙄 just shut the fuck up) and that necro preference I'd rather discard!!!!!! Yk I swear if he came up with these pranks up I'd kill him just with my eyes 😡.
I also love psychoanalysis!!! From solving math homework to putting together puzzles, I enjoy studying and fixing things!! Kanato's mind is still a mystery to me, and I love mysteries. Everything has a reason, I want to study every piece of his brain and fix him💖💖😓😓
So I say I can fix him, and I will!! 😼😼💕💕 (in my dreams 🥲)
And it ends here, I get kind of weird when I talk a lot about myself JSJSJSJSKS and now, could you tell me about yourself??? You can message me or send an more ask telling me about your ideas and tastes!! 💕💕💖💖
I hope I have met your expectations!! Kisses!! 😘😘😘

Have you noticed the latest edition of Charlie Bowater can only draw one (1) face? She did The Princess Will Save You and Cast In Firelight both YA Fantasy set to be released this year. And they are how you say... the same fucking cover
Ah yes so you saw the same tweet I did
Tumblr media
I know I literally just posted that we cannot outlaw book covers from looking like each other, but ! Oof!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The only thing that softens the blow here is that Charlie has improved at representing nonwhite features such that characters look like POC rather than tan white people, although,, that bar was low. Anybody remember the ACOTAR coloring book.
Tumblr media
(Would you have guessed that 2/3 of these people are nonwhite? Or even that they’re supposed to be three different men? I guess all the men in Prythian have the same haircut?)
But that minor victory is mostly lost in the quagmires of the fact that Charlie’s style is to give everyone instagram face:
Tumblr media
I wouldn’t even call this “Sameface” necessarily: that implies limitation, that an artist is only capable of drawing a single facial structure competently. Bowater is incredibly technically talented, she just chooses to give everyone catlike fae eyes and the cheekbones of a starving nymph. (My previous post on this here.)
But I don’t really blame her for that, or for these hilariously identical, nearly devoid of personality covers. Artists are allowed to do whatever they want. Artists who make art for covers are being art directed by designers and marketing teams who bear responsibility for how the finished pieces turn out.
No, this is our fault, as a community and an industry and..... society, kind of, for valuing character portraits that are “pretty” (“pretty” being an extremely loaded, culturally subjective concept) over art that actually Says Something About The Story. Bowater’s style happens to dovetail perfectly with what we currently collectively find pretty, and so we’ve put her art on a pedestal at the cost of everything else art can or should do for our stories.
And this is understandable: in contemporary western culture, pretty is a value unto itself. Seeing our characters portrayed as pretty denotes them as special, as smart, as powerful. It’s almost impossible to de-program ourselves from that reaction. There are approximately five kajillion studies on how beautiful people are at personal and professional advantages; how they’re perceived to be happier, healthier, more successful, and how those perceptions can translate into realities. (Nevermind how thinness and whiteness enter that equation, see above note about “pretty”.) I would love to see more “average” or weird- looking characters abound (and be accurately visually represented) in the YA/ Genre lit sphere, but for now... everyone is pretty.
Which sometimes means everyone is pretty boring.
But that’s just the specific, "What’s the deal with Bowater’s success in book circles and her style and all the sameiness” part of this equation. What if we backed up and asked: why character art at all? Beyond a question of “pretty”-ness (and general obvious Artistic Quality), why do we gravitate towards it, what's the purpose of it, how does it fall flat in a general sense, and how can it be utilized more effectively?
This is something I think about all the time. I follow writers on social media (because..... I am a writer on social media, regrettably), and we have an enormous collective boner for character art. “Getting fanart [of the characters]” is one of the achievement pinnacles constantly cited when people get or want to get published. Commissioning character art is something we reward ourselves with, or save up for (WHICH IS GOOD AND CORRECT. FREE ART IS GREAT BUT DO NOT SOLICIT IT. PAY YOUR ARTISTS). And like???? Same????? We love our stories because we’re invested in our characters. Most humans, even prose writers, are visual creatures to some extent, and no matter how happy we are with our text-based art, it’s exciting to see our creations exist in that form. So we turn that art into promo material and we advocate for it on our covers-- because it’s so meaningful to us! It goes with the story perfectly!! Look at my dumb beautiful children!!!!!
But on an emotional level, it’s hard to grasp that it only means something to us. Particularly when you take into account the aforementioned vast landscape of beautiful visual blandness of many characters (in the YA/ genre lit sphere, that’s pretty much all I’m ever talking about), character art can be like baby photos. If you know the baby, if that baby is your new niece or your friend’s kid, if you’ve held them and their parent texts you updates when they do cute shit, you’re probably excited to see that baby photo. But unless it’s exceptionally cute, a random stranger’s baby photo isn’t likely to invoke an emotional reaction other than “this is why I don’t get on facebook.”
Seeing art of characters they don’t know might intrigue a reader, but especially if the characters or art are unremarkable-looking, it’s doing a hell of a lot more for the people who already have an emotional attachment to that character than anybody else. And that’s fine. Art for a small, invested audience is incredibly rewarding. But like the parent who cannot see why you don’t think their baby is THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BABY IN THE WORLD???? I think we have trouble divesting our emotional reaction to character art from its actual marketing value, which.... is often pretty minimal. This is my hill to die on #143:
Character portraits, even beautiful ones, are meaningless as a marketing tool without additional context or imagery.
I love character art! I’m not saying it should not exist or that it’s worthless! Even art that appeals to only the one single person who made it has value and the right to exist. And part of this conversation is how important for POC to see themselves on covers, whether illustrations or stock imagery, particularly in YA/kidlit. I’m not saying character portrait covers are “bad”.
I am saying that I have seen dozens and dozens of sets of character art for characters who look interchangeable, and it has never driven me to preorder a book. (Also one character portrait for a high-profile 2019 debut that was clearly just a painting of Amanda Seyfriend. You know the one. There’s nothing wrong with faceclaims but lmfao, girl,,,,)
I’m sure that’s not true for everyone! I am incredibly picky about art. It’s my job. There’s nothing wrong with your card deck of cell-shaded boys of ambiguous age and ethnicity who all have the same button nose and smirk if it Sparks Joy for you.
But if your goal is not only to delight yourself, but to sell books, it’s in your best interest to remember that art, like writing, is a form of communication. The publishing industry runs on pitches: querys, blurbs, proposals, self-promo tweets. What if we applied that logic to our visuals? How can we utilize our character design and art to communicate as much about our stories as possible, in the most enticing way?
Social media has already driven the embrace of this concept in a very general sense. Authors are now supposed to have ~ aesthetics. “Picspams” or graphics, modular collages that function as mini moodboards, are commonplace. But the labor intensity and relative scarcity of character art visible in bookish circles, even on covers, means that application of marketing sensibility to it is less intuitive than throwing together a pinterest board.
Since we were talking about it earlier, WICKED SAINTS, as a case study of a recent “successful” fantasy YA debut, arguably owed a lot of its early social media momentum to fanart.
Tumblr media
(Early fanart by @warickaart)
The most frequently drawn character, Malachiasz, has long hair, claws, and distinctive face tattoos. WS has a strong aesthetic in general, but those features clearly marked his fanart as him in a way even someone unfamiliar with the book could clearly track across different styles. Different interpretations of his tattoos from different artists even became a point of interest.
Tumblr media
(Art by Jaria Rambaran, also super early days of WS Being A Thing)
Aside from distinctiveness, it's a clear visual representation of his history as a cult member, his monstrous powers, and the story’s dark, medieval tone. The above image is also a great example of character interaction, something missing from straightforward portraits, that communicates a dynamic. Character dynamics draw people into stories: enemies-to-lovers, friends-to-lovers, childhood rivals, platonic life partners, love triangles, devoted siblings, exes who still carry the flame-- there’s a reason we codify these into tropes, and integrate that language and shared knowledge into our marketing. For another example in that vein, I really love this art by @MabyMin, commissioned by Gina Chen:
Tumblr media
The wrist grip! The fancy outfits! These are two nobles who hate each other and want to bone and I am sold.
In terms of true portraits, the best recent example I can think of is the set @NicoleDeal did for Roshani Chokshi’s GILDED WOLVES (I believe as a preorder incentive of some kind?):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They showcase settings, props, and poses that all communicate the characters’ interests, skills, and personality, as well as the glamorous, elaborate aesthetic of the overall story. Even elements in the gold borders change, alluding to other plot points and symbology.
Tumblr media
For painterly accuracy in character portraits on covers, I love SPIN THE DAWN. The heroine looks like a beautiful badass, yes, but the thoughtful, detailed rendering of every element, soft textures, and dynamic, fluid composition form a really cohesive, stunning illustration that presents an intriguing collection of story elements.
Tumblr media
The devil isn’t always in the details, though: stark, moody, highly stylized or graphic art with an emphasis on textural contrast and bold color and shape rather than representational accuracy can communicate a lot (emotionally and tonally) while pretty much foregoing realism.
The new Lunar Chronicles covers are actually the best examples I found of this (Trying to stay within the realm of existing bookish art rather than branch into All Art Of Human Figures Forever):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taking cues from styles more typical of the comics and video game industries.  (Games and comics, as visual mediums, are sources of incredible character art and I highly recommend following artists in those industries if you want to See More Cool Art On Your Timeline.)
TL;DR: Character art and design, as a marketing tool (even an incidental one) should be as unique to your story and your characters as possible, and tell us about the story in ways that make us want to read it. I tried to give examples because there are so many ways to do this, and so many different kinds of art, and I could give many more! But I’m bored now. So to circle all the way back:
Tumblr media
These are not just bad because they look like each other, although that is embarrassing and illuminating. These are bad covers (although,,,,, PRINCESS is the far worse offender, at least FIRELIGHT suggests a thoughtful cultural analogue) because a desire for Pretty Character Art overrode the basic cover function to tell us about the story. We get no sense of who these people are, what their relationships are, what these books are about beyond the most general genre, or why we might care. The expressions are vague, the characters generic-looking, the compositions uninteresting and the colors failing to be indicative of anything in particular.
They’re somebody else’s baby pictures.
(And yes, that’s the CRUEL PRINCE font on PRINCESS. I better not have to do a roundup post but it’s on thin fucking ice.)

gn! s/o with a body swapping quirk
Characters: Denki Kaminari, Tsuyu Asui, Hanta Sero, Momo Yaoyorozu, Izuku Midoriya, Tooru Hagakure
Warnings: none
notes: there are 3 different types of methods that are used in these headcanons, touch, speech and sight. Each character has been labeled with one swapping method that I thought would be interesting and would fit for what I had planned for them.
Also these are my first headcanons; criticism is greatly appreciated!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
Denki Kaminari (🙌touch)
Tumblr media
Your Quirk works through touch, so you tend to wear clothes that covers almost all of your skin
Just in case ya know
It can go off if you’re startled, and since you’re so focused on projects and school things™, you like to take precautions, especially against your boyfriend
He likes using your Quirk to his advantage
I.e. he will run up behind you and stuff a hand up the back of your shirt while getting chased by one of his friends
So now you have to run away while he hides in your body
This has happened way too much but you both have fun(he always treats you afterwards, more so if you get caught, so it’s a win win)
One time you two swapped just to see who would notice first
You lasted 3 hours (Mina noticed)
Denki lasted 1 (your parents called and he panicked)
He once asked if you could switch with him but didn’t say why
Kinda sus👀 but you did... only to find out he had an exam that day and wanted you to ‘help’ him
You changed back with him as soon as you found out and he felt his soul leave his body
Now you check to see if he has any major dates just in case he asks again
Tsuyu Asui (👀sight)
Tumblr media
She’s a doll, really
When first meeting you she was kind of,,, cautious? Mostly because you took your own precautions to keep your Quirk in check so that made her want to take her own
But now she fully trusts you and loves looking into your eyes(hint: how your quirk works)
She doesn’t like body swapping with you, it makes her feel wrong since shes used to her own body and being in yours feels like she’s violating your privacy
And the memory accessing part of it is kinda invasive in her opinion(and kinda nerve wracking)
And Tsuyu told you this! Nothing can change her mind and you respect her decision
She always has medicine and eye drops on her for when you do happen to overexert your Quirk
The headaches and the blurry vision worries her and she tries to find solutions that prevent you from using it
Doesn’t like that sometime you use your Quirk for your own benefit
Like, a lot of people do, but knowing what yours can do worries her more than anything
She has an irrational fear that a body swap could become permanent if your body dies, so Tsuyu usually tries to keep an eye on you if you body swap near her
Please don’t make her worried 🥺
Hanta Sero (🗯speech)
Tumblr media
He’s super sweet🥰
Hanta is a talkative guy, and if you don’t talk a lot due to your Quirk it gives him more reason to try and fill the silence sometimes
If you do talk a lot, he’s still just as talkative because he trusts you
He loves your voice and could listen to it forever
He doesn’t mind body swapping with you, finds it a little weird but’ll do it for a prank or for you to practice
First time you two swapped was just for practice
You spoke, he responded and you two swapped
First thing you noticed were his cluncky elbows, so while you were stretching and trying to keep the swap
Hanta was getting a feel for your body while looking in the mirror with the most awestruck look on his face
You’re his partner, and he just likes admiring you, especially like this😏
When he sees you swap with one of his friends, whether it be to show off or to try a prank, he gets so pouty 🥺 and he’s like that for the rest of the day lmfao
When y’all go back to the dorms, he’s rubbing at the back of his neck and looking off to the side and shii 🥰 while asking if you’d swap with him
Momo Yaoyorozu (🙌touch)
Tumblr media
Much like Tsuyu, Momo is cautious when it comes to touching you
She tries not to make it obvious, because she doesn’t want to hurt your feelings but she comes to understand that you can control your quirk
She’d love asking you questions! It’s kinda like 21 Questions, just going back and forth answering dumb questions you have for each other
Your Quirk can swap multiple people, and you’d have to fix a couple of messes when people bump into you on the street when you aren’t expecting it
Momo’s got your back though
She wouldn’t want to swap with you at first, but she would have definitely thought about it
Would ask once you get far enough into your relationship, but she’d be kinda embarrassed
Ngl y’all would be THAT couple
You know, the ones that show up on Pinterest because their outfits are just so pleasing and nice 🥺
That’s the ultimate goal; showing up on Pinterest
She saw you guys and saved it to a board that’s just tilted with your name
It’s filled with cute date ideas and stuff she wants to get you 🥰
And get you she does
Doesn’t even relate to your Quirk she sees something that she think looks nice or know you’d enjoy and just
Buys it
Izuku Midoriya (👀sight)
Tumblr media
As soon as he hears about your Quirk
Oh boy
Izuku is nervous and it’s obvious, but once you start dating he’s more open and isn’t as, nervous... but yeah he’s still nervous
Body swapping quirks aren’t rare, but they also aren’t that common, so he loves asking you questions and trying to figure out your strengths and weaknesses
(You already know most of them, but what’s the harm in entertaining your boyfriend?)
He’d want to body swap, but he’s too afraid to ask cause he doesn’t want to upset you 🥺
he’s lowkey terrified on what the swapping process will feel like
Also staring into someone’s eyes is so intimate and scary, I don’t blame him for being nervous ✋😔
When you first swap, he’s ecstatic and rambling about how it felt, asking you if it feels different for everybody, does it effect your sight, are you able to use others quirks etc. etc.
After that he’ll realize that he is in fact, in your body, and stand so stiff it isn’t even funny
You’ll have to switch back or else this man won’t function
He’ll watch you train and practice, while trying to justify that uneasy feeling in the pit of his stomach every time you swap with somebody
Has a whole page about your quirk, and then another page for whenever something reminds him of you
Tooru Hagakure (🗯speech)
Tumblr media
You two met outside of school
You thought she was cute, she thought you were cute, it’s a win win baby 😘
Generally, you were kinda feared and everyone tended to avoid you
Your Quirk works through verbal communication, like Shinso, so people don’t really trust talking to you cause whew, swapping bodies? No thanks
Tooru wanted to body swap with you! She thought it’d be fun and give you a chance to practice control (it also was to show you how much she trusted you)
It’s a weird experience, and you spent the entire time touching Toorus body to try and just feel where everything is. Her hair, her eyes, her lips, it was just strange not seeing yourself but knowing you’re there.
You know how when you unknowingly pass a mirror and mistake your reflection for somebody else? Yeah that happened way too much
Tooru would see you in the reflection and get excited and wave
Only to realize later it was a mirror and get so embarrassed 😔
She would spend a lot of time looking in the mirror, just admiring your features and doing everything she could with a visible body
Your body swap didn’t last long, since she wanted to appreciate you in her own body and missed running her fingers through your hair

Attention Riverdale fans. One and only Madelaine Petsch just become a new face of shein for their 2019 fall collection. And I’m loving it.
For those of you who are not familiar with this babe, Madelaine is an American actress. She’s mostly famous for her role in popular teen tv series Riverdale or as a successful YouTuber.
Madelaine has always been associated with grand fashion style, not only as a Cheryl Blossom. Her beauty speaks for itself and now, her remarkable style is the foundation of one of my favorite fashion brands SHEIN. My story with shein goes back a long time and all of the details of our collaborations are described in my article SHEIN.
Madelaine is highlighting sheins 2019 fall collection. There is a whole page dedicated to her.
You can find all about it HERE.
She’s not only modeling the great outfits but she’s also picking up and talking about her favorites. You can shop divided by categories, by color, by occasion or shop Madelaine’s favorites. It’s been a while since I saw such a thorough page. Honestly hats down.
Here is the video of Madelaine talking about her work with shein and about her favorite outfits from the brand.

A post shared by SHEIN.COM (@sheinofficial) on Aug 15, 2019 at 4:56pm PDT
Madelaine showed you her favorite pieces so now let me show you my favorite of Madelaine’s favorites.
She specifically talked about this yellow ironic outfit and I couldn’t agree more. Reminds me of typical back to school outfit that’s so on the occasion right now. The outfit contains Plaid Button Detail Pleated Skirt, Zipper Front Rib-Knit Letter Print Fitted Top and Two Part Ankle Strap Chunky Heels
It resonates perfectly with her red hair. But don’t worry I’m sure it’s gonna look just as awesome with any other hair color.
Another one of mine and Madelaine’s favorites are this romantic green Surplice Wrap Tie Waist Polka Dot Dress. It’s topped off with presumably out of style Solid Lace-Up Boots, but I think those two styles complement each other perfectly. And how comfy does it look?
The more I Look at Madelaine the more I miss my red hair.
My third favorite outfit of hers got to be this one. Funky retro combination of No Way Letter Print Flap Pocket Shirt and Button Up Flare Hem Jeans. This look highlights the perfect figure of Madelaines in a subtle yet hot way.
Bell jeans are slowly getting back and it’s all about the details and how to style them. We don’t want the cringe of early 2000 back. This outfit does justice to bell style jeans.
And I think I’m gonna go red hair again.
Madeline is bringing not only style to the shein. She also brought a discount code.
Get extra 15% off with discount code: MADELAME (apply at a check out)
And we’re not done yet. All hardcore Riverdale fans would surely appreciate a chance to meet Madelaine and lucky 25 can. What you have to do is enter sheins Instagram give away. All of the details are listed in HERE.
Shein is having a golden time now. With the arrival of Madelaine as a new face of the collection, they also opened up their first store in LA. Unfortunately, only for a couple of days and from the feedback, it was insane. The shop itself looked incredible. Like straight out of Instagram or Pinterest. Customers were getting on it and most of the clothes sold out very quickly. I believe the store only 15% off your purchase was enough of a reason for the local madness. Or additional student discount with no minimum after showing your student ID could do the trick.
Just look at how cute the store looked like:
#gallery-0-5 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-5 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-5 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Make sure you catch your favourite while you can and don’t forget about Madelines discount code to save up some money.
Happy shopping xo

Jisoo x Reader
angst...y?
Word count: 3,216
You were convinced no one would be good enough for Jisoo. Not even yourself.
Tumblr media
requested by anonymous: “hey idk if requests are open yet but if they are could I ask for a jisoo angst?? Thanks!”
It was the little things that made you fall in love with Jisoo.
Film nights that run until the lightening indigo sky of the morning meant weird Jisoo. She made you laugh, attempted “new outfits” with new personalities to match, and thought it would be the perfect time to practice her hand at cooking Pinterest recipes.
Cooking would lead into bizarre meals or failed creations. At that point, you’d order takeout from an 24hr diner, and make sure to order extra servings. The delicious smell somehow always managed to wake up the rest of Jisoo’s roommates, and it would end up being a very early breakfast of sorts.
Speaking of food, Jisoo loved it. The best part was that she never got tired of it. Whenever you were in a mood, needed to get out of your apartment, or were bored, the best date you could take Jisoo on was always to a restaurant. It didn’t matter how many times you took her out, if it was the same restaurant over and over or if it was a brand new location --- she was always excited. The way she would cram her mouth full and somehow still manage to smile captivated your attention far more than anything that was placed in front of you. Of course, you had to put on a show of pretending like you weren’t just staring at the cute girl across the table.
But your favorite had to be the instances Jisoo would trust you. If she needed alone time, but couldn’t find any in her dorm with three other roommates, she would use your place. If she needed to vent about the latest episode of some drama, about how she couldn’t quite get her choreography right, or something personal about her family, she would call you up. She knew there was a listening ear waiting for her whenever she needed it. And whenever there was a break up, no matter how much you had been secretly wishing for it to end because you couldn’t stomach the thought of someone unworthy paired with her, it still broke you heart having to hold her little frame in your lap as she cried. It seldom happened, but when they did, it was you she turned to.
You were in love with Jisoo, which only made it all the more difficult watching her present boyfriend cheat.
Lisa was feeling under the weather, and with the other girls at practice, making their star dancer incredibly jealous, you took it upon yourself to care for her. Back home, she was wrapped up in plush blankets and watching rom-coms. All she needed now was some hot, curative chicken noodle soup.
You were going to have to buy another bowl. Your fingers clenched harder and harder around the Styrofoam until it broke suddenly within the plastic bag, breaking your stare into the restaurant. With a groan, you stepped away to toss the ruined meal into a trash bin, but used this opportunity to be a little more subtle, sidling beside the window.
Inside, you could see Jisoo’s boyfriend on a date. But not with Jisoo. You fleetingly wondered if you were being irrational, if the woman joining him was a close friend, a sister or relative. Nothing had happened yet as the two of them conversed casually, picking at their appetizers. It was a rather cozy establishment, dimmed and romantically set. Still, it could have been a nice venue with good food. You could appreciate that.
You couldn’t appreciate the way the girl’s hand snaked across the table to tangle up in his fingers. There was still a slight chance, and for his sake, you hoped it was real.
A raindrop fell on your head, reminding you that you had someplace to be. A sick baby waiting on you. Still, you held onto the wall purchase, hoping there would be some sign that Jisoo’s heart wouldn’t be torn apart again. And this guy’s arms wouldn’t be ripped off. (You weren’t that strong, but still.)
The sound of an umbrella opening foreshadowed the incrementing rainfall. You were about to pull away with a sigh, feeling foolish ---
The two leaned forward. Your heart dropped. Lips touched in a tender kiss. Anger flushed your cheeks. Ripping away from the restaurant, your only stop was to dip into a convenience store to pick up a couple packages of instant ramen you could make yourself at the apartment. You tried not to crush the dried noodles, and instead, dug your nails into your palms.
He was lucky you cared just that little more about Lisa’s well being than about incarceration for assault and battery.
    “What is up with you?”
You stopped your chopsticks from tumbling the sushi roll around your plate. Jisoo’s was already gone, and you glanced at the sugar sparkling on the corner of her mouth as she ate her dessert dumplings. It made you smile briefly.
“If you aren’t going to finish that, can I have it?” Jisoo asked, a teasing smile on her lips as she poked at you with her own sticks. You batted them away, and with a roll of your eyes, handed over the couple pieces you had left.
You didn’t think it would be that hard to tell Jisoo what saw, but the moment she pranced into your apartment, your mouth went bone dry. It had been hours, but still no courage mustered to confess. You tried to act normal, to act like you were hungry enough to eat the sushi she brought, to act like you were interested in the movie playing, but it was with weak effort. Jisoo would look at you every once in awhile with questioning eyes. And you always avoided them. If she caught wind of anything wrong with you, she would never let it go.
You were beginning to crack under the pressure.
“Seriously though, is everything okay?” She asked again before popping one of the rolls into her mouth.
You sighed, and expected it to come out. “Yeah, just been a long day.” Still couldn’t do it apparently.
Jisoo nodded, thinking. Then she perked up. “Wanna grab a drink? A little something to take the edge off,” and she snorted at the meme she referenced. You couldn’t help but laugh in return, but shrugged a shoulder. “We can just drink at home, we don’t have to go out.” Hearing Jisoo reference to your apartment as her home made your heart flutter. You ignored it in favor of smiling and nodding, deciding that would be for the best. Who knew, maybe all you needed was a bit of liquid courage, and to cushion the blow for her.
Who were you kidding... it wasn’t that simple.
Drinking really meant taking shots of vodka, you came to realize. Jisoo was a champ, slinging them back with ease. A clink and then she tossed her head back like it was nothing but water in her little glass. You weren’t the best at it, coughing once when a bit went down the wrong way and burned for minutes afterwards. She thought it was hilarious, and as long as she kept laughing about it, you felt a little better. A little less weight on your shoulders. It made you forget what you had seen.
It, however, didn’t change the fact that what you were seeing now was incredibly cheesy and horribly portrayed. A peal of laughter rang from Jisoo at the poorly delivered line in the raunchy chick flick you two had put on after the vodka shots were finally finished. She tried her best to mimic the line, but derailed with another laugh. You half laughed yourself, but you couldn’t look away from her smile, those pink lips. It lit up the darkened room, and you noted how pretty her purple hair looked with the blue tint to it from the glow of the television.
You were so distracted that you missed the way she shuffled closer to you, missed the joke she made, and almost missed the way she wrapped a hand around the back of your neck. Then you blinked.
“C’mon, it was so bad, don’t tell me you think that’s how it’s supposed to be done?” Jisoo giggled, nodding her head at the film. Oh, the movie. You completely neglected what was actually happening, and had no idea what was going on. Why she was so close. Making everything foggy. Or was that the vodka? You couldn’t discern the difference, but her warm palm on the nape of your neck was electrifying and you didn’t want her to let go.
“How you should actually kiss a girl is more like ---”
The motion was a knife cutting the haze, and you instinctively leaned back.
For a split second, a confused expression flitted across Jisoo’s features, before she was laughing again. “Oh, stop it. That move was so lame, you can’t just kiss someone like that. Don’t tell me you agree?” Another giggle and God, did that sound make you swoon. You were still aware, however, just how near she was to you, tilted towards your mouth, eyes flickering every few seconds. When you didn’t try to kiss her, she took the initiative once more, giggling, a lip tucked between perfect teeth. “It’s not like I’m venomous or something...”
“But you do have a boyfriend,” you blurted out. Like an idiot.
That rattled her as Jisoo halted in her advances. Dare you say it seemed like she had forgotten that little fact, and you truly wished it wasn’t true. You wanted nothing more than to kiss her, to do much more than kiss her. But it wasn’t right.
It wasn’t right what he was doing to her.
Jisoo removed herself, from you, from the couch, standing abruptly. It was your turn to be confused, watching her silently, the girl pacing in front of you a moment. The movie made a noise, some stupid actor speaking weak dialogue, and she snatched up the remote, pausing it then throwing it onto the couch where it bounced and disappeared onto the floor. She whipped around to you. Her eyes were hard, but glossy. Was she about to cry?
“I think he’s cheating on me.”
Something struck you in the chest. Somehow, Jisoo knew. Yet, she was still with him. It still wasn’t right that you two kiss while she was in a relationship with someone else. Even if he was unfaithful, a scumbag, unworthy.
    Your mouth tasted sour, empty.
“It still isn’t right,” you formed the words carefully. Jisoo clenched her jaw, arms crossing across her chest, breaking eye contact. You continued. “Even if he is cheating on you, and even if I want to kiss you ---” your nerves jumped, catching your slip. “It’s still cheating on him. And I don’t want you to stoop to his level. You’re better than him. And that’s why I think you should end it with him.”
For the damage it caused, you should’ve just slapped Jisoo across the face. She looked stricken, as though the very idea of splitting from her boyfriend was the worst possible outcome out of all this. Then she was grabbing her purse from the coffee table, walking away from you.
“Wait, where are you going?” When you stood, your legs wobbled. Damn that alcohol. “Jisoo, you’re drunk, you can’t leave.”
You can’t leave because it hurts too much.
Jisoo stamped her feet into her boots, a hand resting heavily on the doorframe to your apartment. You walked over, attempting to touch the inside of her wrist, to bring her back. The only response was her half-heartedly yanking her arm away, refusing to look you in the eyes. Tears brimmed yours, making you irrationally angry, and you pushed it all down. You had a loose control on your emotions when you were like this, and all this was happening at the worst possible time.
“Let me call you a cab.”
“I’m okay, Y/N,” she said haughtily. She sounded about ready to cry, and you had the urge to pull her into your arms like you always did when she was upset. Only, you knew how she would retaliate, and fought it off. “I can get a cab myself. Get some sleep. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
You were rooted to the spot as she opened the door and slipped out, leaving you in the dark.
You didn’t see her the next day. You didn’t see her for a week.
You left multiple texts from her roommates unanswered, even from Lisa. They knew something was wrong, and begged to hear from you, but you just couldn’t bear it. You hardly had the will to get up, to shower, to eat, to go to work. Jisoo was an integral part of your life.
And you worried you ruined it.
You drank a little more than usual, to feel closer to her the way you did that night.
A shot of vodka to the system felt like the warmth of her fingers on your skin.
The dark felt like the comfort that flooded your body when in her presence.
The dumb movie still in your TV history reminded you how close you had come to everything you had ever thought about. When you looked away, that dull flavor on the back your tongue returned.
Now she knew how you felt about her and her boyfriend. Her cheating, lying, fucking boyfriend.
    And Jisoo chose him.
    Lisa 💜     Missed call (2)
    Lisa 💜     Incoming call...
A gentle sigh through your nose and you were picking up your phone finally.
“What’s up, Lisa?” you answered demurely.
“Do you know where Jisoo went?” Her panicked voice sparked in your ear, no time for pleasantries. It immediately plunged a spike into your heart, bolting upright on your couch. “She ran out of the apartment, wouldn’t wait for any of us, and I think she was crying. We can’t get a hold of her or anything. I’m really fucking worried, Y/N!”
“Okay, okay! I-I’ll find her!” You had no clue how or where to even start looking, but you were going to do something. Anything. The thought of Jisoo out somewhere, distraught, alone, made you want to crawl out of your skin. Hearing Lisa on the verge of losing it didn’t make you feel very confident, but you held the phone between your ear and shoulder as you attempted to calm her, tugging on shoes.
“I’m leaving now, I’ll call you back when I can,” you promised, ending the call and shoving your phone into your pocket.
You opened the door, keys in hand, preparing to sprint right out of the threshold, when you promptly stopped.
    Jisoo.
Tear streaked, wind blown, disheveled Jisoo. More beautiful than ever. And scared, brows furrowed slightly as she looked at you like she wasn’t sure why she was here. You opened your mouth to speak ---
Lips crashed jaggedly like the sea onto the shore. Hands seized the shirt on your back, pulling you flush to her body, so warm and healing. Teeth clicked against each other, your mind snapping shut like a wire severed. After what felt like so long without her, having her here now was more than enough for you.
She tasted like everything unlike the emptiness after a vodka shot. Sweet and soft. That familiar scent intoxicated your senses, never before having been so near her. And the way her figure pressed to yours was lock and key, fitting and wholesome. You wanted nothing more than to savor this.
Because you were going to break it.
With a gasp, you extracted yourself from her, feeling the threads of your body on hers ripping away. You didn’t open your eyes, didn’t want to see her face as you rejected her. You didn’t think you could breathe again.
    I left him.”
Your body buzzed, eyes flashing open.
“I knew he was cheating on me,” she whispered, leaning her forward against yours hesitantly. You didn’t pull away again, and she melted the rest of the way against you. “I finally confronted him and didn’t wait for an answer. I don’t want anything from him. I only want you.
Up until the other night, I didn’t think you had feelings for me.”
You sighed, releasing so much in that single breath that you couldn’t voice.
“I don’t think I could’ve handled rejection from you,” she murmured, fingertips playing in the hair at the nape of your neck. Palm in the same place as that dark, drunken night.
“I don’t think I could ever reject you,” you breathed. Your hands grazed over her until they were cupping her face, breathing her in and filling your lungs inflate fully for the first time in days.
Surprisingly, Jisoo let out a laugh from her nose, placing space between you to properly observe your face. “I mean, technically... you did.”
You groaned playfully and chuckled, and she couldn’t help but mirror the action, a strange interaction in the course of everything that had already occurred. You didn’t mind. You wanted things to be okay, for the past week to become a distant memory, and her ex along with it. You didn’t want her to cry anymore, rubbing a thumb underneath her eye to wipe away runny makeup. A blush lit her cheeks, smiling sheepishly at the action. God, she was beautiful, and you brushed a wild indigo lock behind the shell of her ear.
“You might want to give Lisa and the rest a call --- you really freaked them out,” you sighed, remembering the call. For all you knew, they were all probably wandering the streets at the moment, searching for her still.
“Yeah, I guess I did,” Jisoo hummed, letting you go to retrieve her phone.
“You’re so dramatic, you know that?”
Jennie prodded a toe into Jisoo’s shoulder from her perch on the couch above. You laughed to yourself, chewing on cheese pizza.
“Don’t be mean,” Rosé scolded across the coffee table, sipping soda through a straw. “She bought us food to make up for it.”
“She could buy me new shoes,” Jennie scoffed through a smirk. With a glance at her ruined sneakers by the door, “You had me wigging out so bad, I stepped in dog poop.”
“Actually, that might be my fault.” Lisa snatched the nearest pillow to shield herself at the confession, nibbling on her crust meanwhile. “I saw it and kinda steered you towards it.”
    “What?!”
“I thought it would be funny!” The youngest snickered, looking at the rest of you for confirmation.
“That does sound hilarious,” Jisoo murmured to you, leaning against your shoulder on the floor. The smile that came over your face couldn’t be stopped, gazing down at the girl. It wasn’t missed by Rosé who cooed in response, making you blush, Jisoo rolling into your neck to hide herself.
“I was really upset...” Lisa explained meekly, continuing to cower behind her wall. When Jennie suddenly stood, she peeked over the edge, then immediately sprang up from the chair with a scream. “Wait, Jennie, please!”
Rosé, ever the enthusiast, cheered as the other two began a race around the apartment, Jennie with dirtied shoe in hand.
Jisoo slipped her fingers through yours.
It was just as it should be.

Shelbee
Happy Monday, everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and I hope you have a tolerable Monday back at work. This remix is from Shelbee from fashion blog ‘Shelbee on the Edge’.  Shelbee has a quirky and unique style that always makes me rethink how I mix and match my own outfits.  Every outfit gives me tons of inspiration for my own outfits.  Shelbee’s motivation and theme for her blog is to show that women over 40 can be stylish and that style has no age limit.
Shelbee was one of the first bloggers I befriended when I started on this blogging journey.  I maintain that Shelbee is one of the hardest working bloggers on the net.  Not only is she a blogger, but she is a stay at home mother to her two cute little boys in Watertown, New York.  With everything on her plate,  she is always making boss moves and I’m just constantly in awe of Shelbee’s stamina and perseverance.  Shelbee also the kindest person ever, she took this newbie fashion blogger under her wing and helped me even when she really didn’t know me. So, it was no question that I would remix Shelbee’s outfit this time around.
I want to to thank her for giving me permission to repost photos from her blog here.

Remix – Shelbee On The Edge by dressthemup featuring a tie belt
Choosing what outfit I would pick was super hard! There are just so many fantastic outfits that Shelbee has won. However, I couldn’t deny instantly loving this outfit the moment I saw it.
In the original post,  Shelbee chooses a plus size cognac colored velvet skater dress from Dresslily.  Unfortunately, that dress is sold out, so I scrambled to find an alternative.  Thankfully, Rosewholesale had this gorgeous alternative in Olive Green.  I think Olive Green is that one universal color that can be worn by everyone no matter their skin tone
Next is this is pretty samba sash belt from Modcloth.  I usually don’t shop at ModCloth, but I just adored this belt and it really resembles the belt Shelbee wore in the original post.  Unfortunately, the color of the original belt’s color didn’t really match what I was going for.
Over the dress, I paired up this beautiful fur bordered poncho that I found on eBay. It’s so pretty and the price is practically a steal.  Of course, there are the accessories such as the opaque plus size tights, the gold tone stainless watch, and this gorgeous gold necklace from Nordstroms.
And finally, my favorite part of this outfit was these fabulous olive green ankle boots. I know that Shelbee wore simple flat work boots in the original photos.  However, I couldn’t resist adding this beautiful olive combat high heeled ankle boots. I wish I could wear heels, just to strut around in these beautiful boots.
This is my remix of Shelbee’s outfit from her post ‘My Instagram Husband‘.  You can find Shelbee on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google Plus, and Pinterest.   So what do you guys think? Do you love it or hate it? Let me know down in the comments!

As I mentioned in my last post, the past few weeks have just flown by. I can hardly believe our daughter is over a month old already! Having a newborn is definitely not the easiest thing in the world…I have never been more sleep-deprived in my life…but I wouldn’t want to miss a single coo or smile! We’ve had a lot of family visit over the past few weeks to visit the new addition and also give us a hand so we have managed to get out of the house a bit and I managed to make sure not every item on this month’s list is baby-related. ;)
1. Graco Pack ‘n Play Playard Snuggle Suite
Space is at a premium here in Hawaii and when I first started looking around at our little one-bedroom apartment, I had a hard time imagining space for all the things I saw advertised as essential for a baby’s nursery. Then one of my friends told me about how some play yards are now made to take the place of cribs and are designed for smaller spaces. After some research, we selected the Graco Snuggle Suite version and I absolutely love it! The bassinet section provides a safe and comfortable place for our baby to sleep and the attached entertainment feature includes a light that allows me to easily check on her in the middle of the night without turning on the bright overhead room lights. The suite also comes with a changing table and storage area that snap onto the frame so everything is conveniently located in one place. One of our baby’s favorite features is the bouncing infant seat: it can snap onto the frame or be removed to carry into a separate room. I love it because I can easily take our baby into the other room and have a safe spot for her to rest and she loves the ‘soothing vibration’ feature, which often lulls her to sleep. It takes up less space than some of the more traditional cribs plus we don’t have to have a separate changing table. As she gets older, we can remove the bassinet and the lower section becomes a play yard. And the frame folds up into a convenient carrying bag! While we haven’t needed the portability aspect of the pack ‘n play just yet, it’s one of the features we were looking for and I’m sure we’ll be happy for it soon. :)
2. Chicco Bravo Trio Travel System
I love, love, love this travel system! When I was looking for car seats and strollers, I did a lot of online research and asked friends and coworkers who are parents for their recommendations. I also went to a couple stores and tested out floor models of various strollers to see how easy they were to turn, fold, etc. This travel set won out. The KeyFit 30 infant car seat is highly rated and with the leveling foot and bubble-level indicator, it was super easy to install the base for the car seat. Anytime we go somewhere, we simply set the car seat on the base, listen for the click that tells us it’s locked in place, and we’re good to go! The stroller functions as a carrier for the infant car seat and once again, it’s very easy to slide the seat into place on the stroller and with one click, you’re off! It also includes a basket so you can easily carry bags/supplies without having everything slung over your shoulder, a convenient tray with cup holders for parents, and a canopy that keeps the sun off our baby. I love that the stroller is very easy to maneuver and it’s super easy to fold as well. You just pull the handle located under the seat and it automatically folds itself…only one hand required! (And let me tell you, I’m finding that I always seem to need another hand for something these days so this is really awesome!) Plus, once our baby grows out of the infant car seat, the carrier transforms into a full toddler stroller. So convenient!
3. Monthly baby photo
The past few weeks have gone by so quickly and while I did notice that our baby was growing, I didn’t realize how very much she had changed until I was showing family some photos taken the day after she was born. It’s amazing how much they grow and change in just one month! To help capture this, I decided to do a monthly photo of our baby so we can see her progress over time. After looking around Pinterest for some ideas, I decided to go with a simple chalkboard and include updated info each month (things like weight, height, milestones, what she’s loving this month). I simply dressed her in a cute outfit, placed her and the chalkboard on a cream-colored blanket, had the hubby snap a photo, and voilà! Instant adorable photo! <3
4. Logan
One of the things our visiting family members suggested we do was take a little time for ourselves to get out and see a movie. We’re definitely not going to have a lot of time for just the two of us so we took them up on their offer and went to see the latest Marvel movie. I don’t even remember ever seeing a trailer for it so I was expecting basically what I expect from the majority of these movies: an action-packed, fun and entertaining movie that doesn’t necessarily have a lot in the way of complex plot or superior acting. That’s not a criticism really; I quite enjoy that kind of movie on occasion. But this movie was much more than I expected. I don’t want to spoil anything but it was much more serious than any of the other Marvel movies I’ve seen…in a good way! The more serious storyline allowed Patrick Stewart (Professor X) and Hugh Jackman (Logan) to actually show off their acting chops. This movie is much darker than the simple/fun movies I usually expect and is set in a future where things have not gone well for the original X-Men team (what and why are revealed during the movie) leading Logan and Professor X to go into hiding from the world. I was especially impressed by how well Hugh Jackman portrayed a very weary Logan with the weight of the world on his shoulders. It was definitely not a happy movie but it was very well done and I would certainly recommend seeing it.
5. Banán
Banán is a cute little spot offering dairy-free soft serve made from locally grown bananas and other ingredients. The soft serve comes in several flavors like acaí, liliko’i (passion fruit), and green tea and though they all have a strong banana flavor (at least all the ones I’ve tried have), other flavors definitely do come through. They also have a lot of tasty toppings like shaved coconut, honey, and pineapple. My favorite so far has been the chocolate mac flavor with local dark chocolate and mac nut honey butter toppings. Yum!
That’s it for March! Now maybe I can take a quick nap before the little one wakes for her next meal… ;)
Things I’m Loving – March 2017 As I mentioned in my last post, the past few weeks have just flown by. I can hardly believe our daughter is over a month old already!

Our Little Dinosaur
New Post has been published on http://ourlittledinosaur.azurewebsites.net/our-little-dinosaur/
Our Little Dinosaur
Our Little Dinosaur
This endearing term refers to my son. The name was coined by my husband (aka Lil Dino Daddy) a few weeks before he was born.
One day, while he and I were shopping for baby clothes at our local resale shop, my husband would only consider items that had dinosaurs on them.  After my son arrived in early November, 2016, we finally gave those cute little clothes a purpose. Remembering our shopping adventure, I stealthily selected one of the outfits my husband had picked out – one featuring dinosaurs. I then dressed my tiny baby boy and took him into the other room to show his Daddy. Once my husband saw him in his “stegosaurus” outfit, his eyes grew wide in excitement as he exclaimed, “Aww, come here my little dinosaur!” The name stuck, along with many other endearing pet names we have come up with as time passes.
Our Journey
My husband and I were married nearly six years when I discovered I was pregnant. Those nine months of pregnancy were so very special to me. I loved being pregnant, despite some of the side effects and less than enjoyable symptoms. I enjoyed watching my belly grow and feeling my son move around as he developed and grew strong. I nested from day one. My first baby project was throwing a gender reveal party. We wanted to share our important news with those closest to us, who had prayed with us and supported us.  After that, building the gift registry was especially enjoyable. I researched everything and read dozens upon dozens of reviews before adding them to my list. Browsing through all those cute little baby things only added to the imaginings of my child as I thought of him smiling, playing, and growing. Then the baby shower day arrived! Mothers of all ages shared their tales of pregnancy and parenthood as we shared a meal, played games, and laughed together.
The Learning Curve
Then there was the learning curve. I especially loved the learning part that is involved with a first pregnancy. There is so much to know! The research I did and the knowledge I obtained before delivering my son, (along with the support of my husband and the midwives), was definitely the most positive contributor to the birthing experience.
Now that my baby is here, the learning continues. Oh boy, does the learning continue, whether you enjoy it or not! Learning everything one needs to know to be a hopefully good…ok, Lord, at least decent… parent is all the more challenging while struggling to function through sleep deprivation. This lack of energy in those early months…ok, ok, the first year…has made the time to research and read is as fleeting as those z’s I longed to catch. I realized just how little I invested in the learning that would have been most helpful to me… What I really needed to know was what to expect AFTER my son was born.
This is record of our journey from a mother’s perspective. (Although, I plan to ask Lil Dino Daddy for his perspective too. Where would we be without our Daddies?) I’ll share with you as much as I can from the first moments when we learned we were going to be parents, to the challenges of breastfeeding, tricks for encouraging tummy time, and guiding our son as he learns to walk and talk, and obey. This is our story of “baby makes three” and maybe beyond one day.
My desire is that readers will find this an insightful resource, with stories that both entertain and encourage. My goal as I recount this adventure, is to build this site to be a helpful to mommies-to-be (and daddies too!) as well as new parents. We’ll talk about marriage too, as this is the building block to a healthy, thriving, functional family.
I hope that as readers have questions, you will feel free to pose them, and find many of your answers here.
So, let the journey begin….
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
