Something something the deep humanity and grief embedded in BBC Ghosts. Something something using humor to cope with your grief and regrets. Something something we're all just stories in the end. Something something ghosts are guilt, ghosts are secrets, ghosts are regrets and failings, but most often, a ghost is a wish.

Ok so, we all know that sooner or later The Captain will come out and, of course, he will not ascend immediately after that because they would never dare to pull a Destiel on us.
What I'm really hoping we'll see is that one day Allison walks in the Captain's room and puts a pride flag on the bedside table, very quietly, then leaves. Later on in the day, of course, The Captain manages to catch her alone and asks her about it.
-"It's quite colourful, but what's it about?"-
-"It's a flag. In some ways like the medals on your uniform, but this doesn't represent exactly something you've done. It's just...who you are."-
The Captain tilts his head, confused. Allison knows he will grimace should she use the word "homosexual", because even though that's who he is, he's not really used to a neutral connotation of the word. So she gestures towards the small flag, and explains:
-"Today it's June the 1st. It's "Pride Month". You know, one occasion for queer people to demonstrate and be proud of who they are."-
Now The Captain has understood, and even though his heart serves no function anymore, he's sure he felt it skip a beat. -"Oh..."-
-"You like it?"-
-"I...ahem..."- he tugs at his collar, gasping for breath. -"Not sure I deserve it, Allison."-
Allison smiles, almost feeling a lump in her throat when she next speaks:
-"I think you do, Captain."- is the last thing he hears her say, before she smiles and walks off.
The flag doesn't disappear when June is over.

I have this hyper-specific headcanon that when it comes to movies, discussing Fanny’s favorite film is off-limits.
Not because it’s bad or because she’ll have a negative reaction to the movie itself, but because The Captain has also seen this movie and has a very different idea on how it ended.
It gets so bad and both parties are so stubborn that their arguments can last years at a time. Since they never really disagree on anything, it is the closest they have ever gotten to splitting apart their friendship.
And sure, maybe it ruffled Captain’s feathers a bit when Fanny implied that he was practically a baby when he first saw it, thus a mind that young shan’t be trusted with accurate information.
And maybe, that caused Captain to imply that Fanny was a touch too old when she first saw it so her mind shouldn’t be trusted as well. And maybe they didn’t speak for 6 months after that, but it’s fine!
It’s fine.
Absolutely no one else has seen or heard of this movie in their lifetimes, so nobody can confirm who’s right or wrong. They just watch on in abject horror as the argument unfolds.
Alison eventually catches wind of this and decides to try and find the film online to settle this decades-long debate once and for all. Unfortunately, not only is there no information on it other than a short plot synopsis and a movie poster, but it was also reportedly destroyed in the 1937 Fox Vault Fire.
The Captain neglected to mention this whole time.
The true ending to this movie remains unknown to this day.

BBC Ghosts and Grief
I discovered the show after my mom died and honestly it’s so comforting to me?? Like the idea that she’s around and herself but I just can’t see her? Or that if she’s not around it’s because she’s at peace?? It makes me feel all warm inside. I’m not really a religious person so I really like having this pretty secular yet existent version of the afterlife 🥹
