What's Been Held In (2/4)

Part 1

Heyo thanks to all who enjoyed part one! This one's longer and hopefully even better! we got some tension and discoveries in this part!

The letter finished, and mind racing, Tails leaned back in his chair with a long sigh. He'd wanted to do this for a while now and meant everything he said, but going through with it was nerve-wracking. He already felt as though he was the weaker link of the duo, of all the hero's friends, really, so Sonic discovering the note was providing only stressful scenarios at the moment. He gripped the pen he'd just finished writing with and began to twirl and click it to relieve some tension. The thought of his feelings being cast aside was too much to bear.

*sigh ' Maybe I should just toss it…Maybe I'm just overthinking things … but what if I'm not? The thought was dismissed as quickly as it came; He was worried about seeming cowardly as is, and running now would only prove his insecurities correct.

Anxiety and frustration had officially gotten the better of him at this point. The weight of the impending confrontation made him feel breathless and trapped; he needed to move, to be at ease. The young inventor rose from his desk and made his way to the hangar that housed his oldest and most sentimental vessel. He figured he'd take the tornado for a quick ride to clear his mind; Fresh air and a scheduled test run would be a win-win as far as Tails was concerned. He just hoped he'd be back before Sonic in case bottling all he'd been feeling up a little longer proved the better option.

As he began to do a routine preflight check of the plane's configurations and working order, his mind drifted off yet again.

I mean, I've been ok so far; I'm happy enough with my friends and our life, and everyone doubts themselves all the time, right?

Sighing and tightening his grip on the wheel, he moved his doubts to the wind as he flew over the city.

Three hours, three grueling hours in the unforgiving heat of the sun on his knees pulling roots from Amy's garden. She needed his help clearing out a space for a new type of herb she wanted to grow. Weed-plucking wasn't precisely what he thought she had in mind when she theatrically begged him to spend the afternoon together. Still, though, it's not like all the work was on his shoulders, and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't having fun. The snacks she made for their break were a plus too.

Having felt pleased with where they left off with their progress, Amy thanked Sonic for his help and sent him on his way with some extra goodies for his time. The hero rushed home seemingly even faster than usual, wanting nothing more than to get the dirt out of his fur and body into a warm bed.

He found the door locked when he arrived at Tails' workshop, the unofficial but cozy home to the speedster. It wasn't an unusual thing for his friend to lock up, but odd for him not to give a quick heads-up. With a quick shrug to dispel further inquiries, Sonic began making his way toward an alternate entrance.

Eh, he must've needed some supplies or parts for something he's building. I'll just go in through the backdoor.

Once inside, he took notice of the lack of mess in the room, no parts scattered about, no blueprints on every table, or tools and oil spills to maneuver around. As a matter of fact, hardly anything was out of place; Except one area. When scanning the room, Sonic took note of a large amount of crumbled paper on and around Tails' desk, a small stack of envelopes, and… a letter?

On the desk was a small envelope addressed to himself, of all people.

Why would he be writing me a letter? We practically live together. Maybe it's from someone else.?

No matter the reasoning he tried to put behind it, the handwriting matched the young genius's too closely, and curiosity urged him to read what he had to say. Quietly green eyes skimmed the page, his heart growing heavy with every word. Deep down, the blue hero had suspected these insecurities hadn't left his adopted brother, but he hoped he'd suspected wrongly or that they'd wanned with time.

Carefully placing the letter back in its envelope, Sonic dropped into Tails' chair to await his return. He let out a long sigh, more thoughts running through his head than miles that he could cover in a minute.

This is gonna need a serious talk.

@morganofthewildfire--She has so many great fics to read. As far as Multi-Chaps go; Same Time Thursday, Ivy, The Lucky One are some of my faves. She brings the angst, so be prepared

@shyvioletcat-- I love her fics. you have no idea. They are some of my go to comfort fic. It Takes Two and Striking Matches have been the two that I reread all the time. Some others that I love are The Calling, Smile, Touch & Go--really you can’t go wrong with any of her fics

@westofmoon--Retellings/AU galore. “Blood and Bone” is a Mummy AU, “The Heartbeat of Stars” is a Sci-fi fic, awesome moodboards and drabbles that I love.

@elentiyawhitethorn--Love, love, love. “You’re A Mystery to Me” is so great and you can tell the work she puts into it--its a mystery in the veins of Scooby Doo and it is the best thing ever. She has a lot of great fics to read in TOG and ACOTAR world

@sassyhobbits--had multiple TOG fics--”One Night Standards” and “Growth” are completed. Misery Business is an ongoing Rowaelin that’s off to a great start.

@thewraithsofmorhogg--”Noisy Neighbors” is the holy order of slow burn

@imaginedhaven -- “Reluctantly Rooming” and “Call it What You Will” are so, so good.

@highqueenofelfhame -- i love em. she has so many fics to read. “Far Away From Sane” has murder mischief and pain.

@live-the-fangirl-life -- fluff master extraordinaire. A World Away and I Dig you are two super fun reads. She has so many other multi-parts and oneshots both in TOG and ACOTAR, seriously. you need to read her stuff.

@punkassbookjockey26-- Of Authors and Angels! Such a great fic.

@whimsicallyreading--I love Val. She is a delight. “Dark Roast No Sugar” and “If I Had A Heart” are so so so good. Seriously.

@talkfantasytome--she writes both TOG and ACOTAR--love love love her fics. “How Could They Not,” “Model Students,” “Staghorn Slopes”

@julemmaes--i can’t pick just one fic, there are so many great things to choose from from both fandoms--seriously, you can’t go wrong.

@petalstofish--this is her AO3, Sarah is so awesome. I love following her, love reading her works. She is a delight.

@missgryffin--has lots of jily to read! I am massively behind, but I’m excited to read Secret Keeper!

BeeDaily--Commentarius is kinda on an endless hiatus, but it is no less wonderful to read, hilarious and so fun
