How To Bargain With Rumplestilts
Rumplestilt: I will help you out of your predicament, but for a price: your firstborn child!
Me: Right, so you’ll help me in exchange for your firstborn child. Deal!
Rumplestilt: (accepts handshake, cackling) The bargain is set! There’s no backing out n . . . hngh! Wait, what’s . . . happening . . .?
(Rumplestilt falls to the floor, twitching and glowing. Glow fades to reveal a small bundle next to him)
Me and Rumplestilt: . . . . . .
(Bundle starts crying)
Me: Dude . . . did you just have a baby?
Rumplestilt: No, that can’t be . . . my kind can’t have kids! Why do you think we bargain for children?!
Me: Well, we did agree you would help me in exchange for YOUR firstborn child . . . I think we may have found a loophole?
Rumplestilt: (awed) Did you know this would happen?!
Me: Honestly I was just trying to be clever, this is way better than anything I expected.
Rumplestilt: (teary-eyed) I’m a dad!
Me: Congratulations!!!
Me: Oh shoot, but don’t forget about the bargain! The kid might disappear or something!
Rumplestilt: (clutches bundle) Oh my word, right!!!
———
(A/N: It’s been a while since I messed with magical bargain tropes. XD Fun Fact: I learned while fiddling with this idea that a “rumplestilt” is, in fact, a name for a type of goblin! Which is great because I try to keep my guides species-focused and I did goblins in my very first one!)

I actually hate how Rhysand commands and impone himself to the other High Lords.
I really, really, hate it and him so much, why SJM do you have to give everything to one character and to his little group?

there isn't a day in my life after I read acowar where I am not mad about the stupid death bargain between feysand (at least when the universe decided to remind me that it exists, like today. after I read about it again in a fic. it gave me flashbacks. bad ones)
..... is it romantic? YES. GODDAMN. IT'S SO FUCKING ROMANTIC!!!! YOU DIE I DIE??? SIGN ME THE FUCK UPPPPP!!!!!
BUT IT'S ALSO SO FUCKING STUPID IT HURTS ME TO THE CORE OF MY SOUL. like. like. Fey I could understand. she's 20. TWENTY. tf does she knows about leading a whole court of another species? she barely lives as a fae for one year. I won't be fooled into thinking she knows enough on how to basically run a country (hell, nesta probably knows more about running something since she's the first born daughter, mama Archeron probably taught her how to run the household, that's more than what fey would know.)
.
fey is 20 something, she just saw her mate dies in front of her, that's traumatizing. I get it. she wouldn't want to go through that again. emotions are thick so common sense would take a back seat in that situation. BUT RHYSAND???? 500+ YEARS OLD? who's probably been a high lord for more than half of it?? YOU'RE A LEADER BRO. YOU DON'T THINK TYING YOUR LIFE TO SOMEONE ELSE COULD BE CATASTROPHIC???? like.... did he not think of his court, of his people, the very same ones he wanted to protect so bad he'd become amarantha's whore, when making that bargain? what if one day both the high lord and high lady dies. THEN WHAT??? so baffling.
why is that bargain even written in the first place, what is its purpose for the plot progression? Sarah could've just write a hot and steamy feysand post-we-died-but-not-really-war sex and be done with it without the stupid bargain.
almost ruined the ship for me... and then SJM pulled the pregnancy bs. and that was that. that severed any love i had for canon feysand. I love Feyre. I love Rhys. but them together*? no thanks🙏🏼
and that is all. I just... I read a fic with this death bargain mentioned. and now I'm having flashbacks of being 19, stressed out of my mind for finals, and thinking I could find joy and relax when I finally had time to read acowar. only to find out about the bargain. and then acosf happened and..... I haven't touch any books SJM released ever since lmao. I was that betrayed😭
*in canon. I would still eat up any fanon feysand works like it's nobody's business. that's MY high lord and high lady!!!!

I could've posted a B&BT teaser today but, in honour of Cassian Week fast approaching, I decided to post a little peek at a fic I have for day 7 instead... 👀
Cat-eyes glinted through the dark, a low hum reverberating through his chest and echoing in Nesta’s very bones as he dipped his head, the tip of his nose brushing her jaw. There was a scrape of teeth, a hand winding possessively around her waist as he stepped behind her. “What is it that you want from me then, princess?” he asked, his mouth at her throat. “What have you come to take?” “I don’t want my family to starve,” she began slowly, ignoring the hand that splayed over her stomach, drifting towards her hips. Beneath his teeth, her pulse fluttered. “I want my father’s lost ships to be found, with all his treasure and gold intact. I want us to be able to leave that cottage in the woods and live the way we did before, with no need to worry about where our next meal will be coming from. I want…” She paused, swallowed. “I don’t ever want to go back to that cottage again.” She looked up, and saw the creature grin, an almost feral look in his eyes. A hollow feeling spread in her chest, and briefly Nesta wondered if she ought to have been more careful with her wording— if she had just unwittingly signed away her soul. She watched his wings spread behind him, so large she feared he was going to enclose her in them and suffocate her, but after a moment he closed them again, tucking them back against his spine, and when he looked at her Nesta forgot that she was supposed to be afraid. “Done,” he purred.

@lunarcovestarters location: FAE-KEA: Bargain Furniture Store OPEN
Ernie's been out all day, hopping from different homegoods stores. His apartment had barely been decorated, and he didn't know what the hell kind of vibe he wanted to go with. Right now, Casa de Ernie failed the vibe check. All the clothes, the trinkets, and whatever the hell else he's been collecting for decades were sprawled haphazardly across his apartment. No furniture but a matress in the corner of his room. He looked like he was still on the run. If he'd come to Lunar Cove for good, or at least for a good while, he wanted to finally make a home. He scanned the shelves of the store he was in, looking over the candles, the picture frames, and lamps. Do I want a moody vibe, like London? Or some colorful bright shit, like Rio? He thought to himself before -- "Hey, yo!" He called to a stranger a few feet away. "Pick a city between London and Rio."

i am, unfortunately, still being tempted by our resident dragon prince, despite currently being in the midst of a flare up, a cold, and the worst allergies i have ever experienced. (the weather here is throwing a bit of a tantrum). so. i've been scribbling any ideas i've had to stave off the boredom.
and i'll up the ante on our fae deal.
i'll be generous—if malleus comes home for you within the first 20, he can have an extra piece of smut. 21 or more, he only gets one.
(and, if i may, the second piece is probably going to be a bit more... weird.)
👀
(first off, i hope you feel better soon, that sounds absolutely miserable and im amazed you're still able to be creative laid up like that 😭😭)
BUT THEN YOU SAY THINGS LIKE WEIRD AND IM INSTANTLY INTRIGUED.....next friday ill be returning from my work trip so it's going to be quite the reward one way or another when i do my celebratory pull to welcome him home and we get to revel at last in the concoction you've crafted 👀👀
im going to have to take a small malleus plush with me for extra luck....

May I meet a Queen of the Fae? I would do anything!
Anything, you say? Anything at all? Would you give your voice? Your face? Your first-born child? Would you offer up your freedom? Your sense of self? Your soul? Your life? Would you walk along the valleys where silence falls heavy and oppressive, where even shadows quiver and fail in a bleaching and blinding light? Would you swim or sail on seas where every sorrow that is, was, and will be felt is distilled into the very air? Would you enter into the places of the lands of the dead and resist the inexorable call they offer to all of humanity to come join them in the sweet and soft slumbering of nonexistence? Would you break relationships? Lover, friend, sibling, parent, child... break them and leave them behind? Abandon careers and jobs, leave behind nice walks in the park? Forget about television shows, movies, favorite books, and posting silly things on blogging websites that ought not to be posted on by anyone with an ounce of common sense? Would you leave behind anything and everything that has ever brought you joy or sorrow or anger? Anything you've ever found pleasure in? Anyone you've ever liked being around? Would you be willing to give up everything that makes you... well... you? Just leave it all behind for a single brief meeting with a Queen of the Fae? You may yet be tempted, many are. But think of those who have gone before you, who have truly given up everything for a chance at something so dazzlingly and impossibly wonderful. It matters not whether the thing they seek is really what they believe it to be, sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. What matters comes afterwards, when the magic has ended, when the enchantments fade, and they are left with a memory of everything that was, everything they were, everything that could have been. And it is heartbreaking, my child, for them to look back and realize that they would wish all of that back, would return to even the bleakest and most hopeless and horrible of lives in an instant if they could. Because all of the things that make those lives worth living are small and hard to see, they blend in, they are outshone by glamorous and fabulous events and people and things. Yet without them, the life hardly seems living anymore, and no epic adventure or great dream come true moments could ever be enough to fill a person, it will never be enough. So they fade, becoming less than people, living memories of something that now does not exist. Some learn the lesson, and recreate themselves anew, becoming new people with good lives and wiser views. Yet so many don't learn, so many continue to pine after the jewels for their shine, the sword for its glory, the titles for their power... Seek not the Faerie Queen, my child, but live. Live for today, and yesterday, and tomorrow. Find fun and fancy in what others believe to be grim and hollow, seek out the extraordinary disguised as the ordinary, the magic in the cracks of the world. Every moment of a mortal life is precious beyond reason, even those moments we do not always see as worthwhile have a value we forget to look for. And perhaps, if you were to live life with such true seeing eyes, then you might catch a glimpse of such Queens of the Fae as they follow roads of their own. Even Faerie royalty is not absent from the human world, and our world is not at all distant to those who see true. You will have many chances to speak with those of Faerie, perhaps even a queen, if only you learn to live in a way that allows you to recognize them as they are.

Warning: The following snippet contains; Minor mentions of blood and gore, some body horror, lots of arachnophobia triggers. Size difference. A shady fae creature on their best behaviour. Unspecified bargains with said shady fae creature. Some very dead monsters.
The face was familiar, though the size of it was not, nor was the number of eyes, the chelicerae protruding from his jawline, the sharpness of his canines or the number of arms. Speaking of his arms and indeed his limbs in general not only were they larger but proportionately they had elongated to the border of grotesque but merely the border as if Bastion were fighting to maintain some semblance of the illusion of humanity in her presence. That illusion was already well and truly lost, because the being before her was not merely huge and grotesquely proportioned but it’s movements were more like a spider than a man.
“Do not run Ida.” The creature cautioned, in that all too familiar, ever gentle voice, albeit this time with the disturbing addition of distorted reverberations, as though the same voice were overlapping with itself, just slightly out of sync and speaking at both higher and lower frequencies at intervals.
“If you run, I will most definitely chase you and I fear even with our agreement, I will not be able to control myself”
“Are you going to eat me Bastion?” She asked carefully, after all, when dealing with inhumanity, it never hurt to clarify, for all she knew he was simply warning her away from a more painful death, not warning her away from the prospect of death in its entirety, in which case, she was in fact going to have to run.
He laughed and despite the distortion there was something quite deprecating about it. “As much as I would love to, in this particular instance I am in fact trying to behave myself, come here Ida.”
Naturally she stayed where she was. He huffed at her. “Yes I realise it seems counterproductive, but please come to me” There was a note of desperation in his voice and after taking the correct amount of time to assess if this was a ploy, Ida took pity on him, moving towards the hulking thing before her, though even she wasn’t quite sure how she managed to cross the distance.
Multiple arms wrapped around her, the embrace was warm and oddly gentle but there was an undercurrent of strength to it and Ida held no illusions about her chances of breaking free should he not want her to. He buried his face in the crook of her neck and sighed. Honestly at this size he was a little heavy but the way he seemed to sag with relief as he held her, made her feel obliged to weather through it with dignity.
“Apologies Ida, I did not think they would be so brazen as to attack you while you were under my protection. It was terribly rude and I am quite upset with them.”
As she patted one of his arms in what she hoped was a comforting gesture. Ida thought about the numerous dead monsters presently leaking blood and viscera onto the forest floor and concluded that The Spider Prince had a remarkable talent for understatement.

✩🦇📿Review:
“Rhapsodic” is the perfect cure for any type of book hangover. Holy cow. I am just obsessed with this paranormal romance!
“Rhapsodic” tells the story of Callypso (Callie) Lillis, a powerful siren and badass private investigator who once made 322 deals with the Bargainer in her youth. A black bracelet beads up her wrist, serving as a reminder of all that she owes the fae king of the night. For the last seven years, however, he has not come to collect his magical IOUs. Until now. A dark presence looms over the Otherworld. Fae warriors have begun to disappear without a trace and the Bargainer needs Callie’s help to solve the mystery.
Thalassa’s book is wholly unique and like nothing I have ever read before, which is why its was so easy to fall in love with her characters and the world she created! I especially liked how each chapter begins with a flashback before transporting us to the present. This way, we do not get the whole picture right away and instead have to read the whole book to find out why the Bargainer never sought Callie out for repayment.
I really enjoyed reading from Callie’s perspective, even though I got teary eyed at times. As a young adult, Callie suffered her father’s physical and verbal abuse after her mother was killed. Though she has been through a lot, she makes it clear that she is no one’s victim.
The Bargainer recognizes this, giving her the space she needs to be independent despite his possessive and protective nature. His determination to rekindle his friendship with Callie after seven years and develop it into something more had me immediately under his spell.
I must admit that things were slow moving for the first 200 or so pages while Thalassa engaged in world-building surrounding the differences between the Otherworld (home to the fae and separated into the Kingdoms of Night, Day, Flora, Fauna, Death and Deep Earth, and Mar) and Earth (home to sirens, shifters, seers, and humans). However, once I became familiar with the world, I could not get enough of the storyline.

thinking very much about how faerie magic is very tricky and never "3 wishes happily ever after done and done" in that it's always a trade when you make a bargain with a faerie. it's always equal value what you give and what you take when you enter into a faerie boon. and i think that applies to the cauldron/mother as well
and nesta, who took from the cauldron, who ripped out that death and that fatal power and was Made, of course had to relinquish something just as monumental in return. so i think she doesn't have the self-healing abilities that she should as a high fae and in fact pain is quite exacerbated by her powers, meaning if she gets wounded, she heals as if she were still human. and her human conditions remain with her even as high fae as well. which is even more ironic considering that i think healing powers go hand in hand with death powers if only she could hone them :o)
