[Lane (and possibly Elisa and Dominic) can hear a bit of a sparkling noise, before right next to them is Makeup Anon, wearing her goggles, in her Bunbori form, of course. It seems the lighting of the video was quite faulty because now they can see the scars on her face, though it blends into the pale pink quite well. On one arm, she's holding a sparkly, Manaphy-sized cyan tuxedo, with sea-like accents, a pale pink Mew-sized wedding dress with what seems to be type-based accents (probably based on the fact mew can be anything - though, on some edges the pink fades into a stronger color) and a pale green Celebi-sized wedding dress with plant-like accents. There is also a Hatterene next to her, a cup of steaming hot cocoa floating next to her, most likely through psychic.]

Gogoat for Pokemon Unite!
Tumblr media
Season 1
Season 2
Prev: Cradily - Hatterene - Tropius - Cacturne - Ditto - Weavile - Ogerpon - Coalossal
Pokemon is a series based entirely on tradition. You have aspects of the game that have been in place since Pokemon Red and Blue, such as six pokemon slots, eight Gyms you need to beat, an Elite 4, and an opposing terrorist organization that you, a child, must dismantle.
But as the games ride on, old traditions are challenged and broken, and these are most apparent in Gen 6, with the introduction of the Fairy Type and rideable pokemon, like Gogoat. These rideable pokemon paved the way for what would eventually be the fazing out of the HM system and other features like our main ‘mons Koraidon and Miraidon in Gen 9, and we owe it all to the innovations Gogoat and friends has shown us.
So can this green goat goad us into giving it a chance in Pokemon Unite? Let’s give it a gander.
-
Tumblr media
Based on first impressions, Gogoat has a bit of beef to its defensive profile, but don’t let that high HP fool you. Yes, it’s very high, but its offset by its very low Defense and Sp. Defense. Its Defense does increase with its Grass Pelt ability, but there’s little it can do about that Speed stat. Respectable offensive stats show that it can roll with either Attack or Sp. Attack, but it has standard attacks for a Grass Type, nothing that really stands out, y’know. It’s real claim to fame has and always will be the fact that it is practically built to give rides to people and pokemon, proving to be really dependable in that regard. As such, to really prove itself, I designate Gogoat with the role of a...
Supporter
-
Basic Attack - Melee/Attack
The pokemon delivers a harsh swing with its horns. This basic attack can be charged to deal increased damage to enemies and to also Throw them on hit. This attack can also be charged while the pokemon is running and carrying an ally.
The attack is a short ranged swing of the pokemon’s horns. It can be charged to deal more damage and Throw enemies a short distance. It takes 1.5 seconds to fully charge and deal 2.5x more damage.
It takes 0.75 seconds to fully charge the basic attack. The resulting attack Thrown enemies a short distance and renders them unable to act until they land.
While carrying an ally, this basic attack can be charged while moving. Otherwise, it can only be done standing still.
For a Supporter, Gogoat has some heft to its horns, which allows it to deal heavy damage when it needs to. Being able to charge your basic attack to unleash a short ranged Throw attack can be annoying to deal with in the middle of a fight, but that’s just how most goats roll. You turn your back on them for a second, and they’ll decide to just headbutt your butt with their head.
There’s also a short bit about charging the attack while giving an ally a ride. Yes, Gogoat is able to pick up allies with its moves like how Lapras could, or at least the version of Lapras I wrote before it officially came to the game, but as you can do this with regular moves instead of a Unite Move, it’s got some quirks to it. For the most part, you’re the armored carrier that brings reinforcements to battle, which is how you play as an offensive Supporter like Gogoat.
And when I say armored, I mean armored with thick heavy foliage.
-
Ability: Grass Pelt
When the pokemon is in Tall Grass, it slowly gains a shield. The longer you stay, the greater the shield becomes. If you are carrying an ally, the ally also gains a shield.
After 1.5 seconds of standing in Tall Grass, Skiddo and Gogoat generate 5% shield every second. The shield gained by Grass Pelt caps to 25%.
The shield gained by Grass Pelt will not fade away while within Tall Grass. The shield can be regained if it was lost in battle by standing in Tall Grass.
Any ally pokemon you are carrying will also gain a Shield through Grass Pelt at the same rate. The shield they get scales with your HP.
Likewise, the ally’s Grass Pelt shield can be regenerated if they are being carried by you and you are standing within Tall Grass, though this is typically unfeasible in the middle of a fight.
The shield gained by Grass Pelt lasts twice as long as a regular shield.
Gogoat has the ability to get a big shield by grazing in Tall Grass, which is handy for a Supporter that needs some protection to ride into battle. It may take a while, but it’s the freest big shield you can get at any time. Because Tall Grass is everywhere, all it takes is about 6 seconds of break time to get a fully powered Grass Pelt shield, you just need to take a rain check if a big fight is going on.
Also, the shield can be repaired by just going back into the cover of Tall Grass. Yeah, it may not be cool to disengage from a battle just to refresh your shield, but Goodra does it too when they’re even a little bit hurt, so no one will hold it against you if you retreat with a small chunk of your shield gone.
If you have an ally riding your back, you’ll even share the shield with them while waiting to engage a fight. They just have to wait for the ability to fill out their shield and they’ll be good to go. But you should know that they cannot regain or repair the shield by themselves as you’re the one with the Grass Pelt ability, so it’s up to you to make sure your friends are well guarded and Supported.
Because, you know, you’re a Supporter, despite how hard your attacks can hit.
-
Tumblr media
At the start of the game, Gogoat will start out as Skiddo. You can choose between Tackle and Growth as your first move. By Level 2, you’ll have learned both.
-
Move 1: Tackle (Buff)
The pokemon charges straight forward and starts running, damaging and crashing into the first enemy you hit. You can put an ally on your back by running into them, dealing increased damage to enemies and also Stunning them. 9s cooldown.
The pokemon’s Movement Speed increases by 20% during Tackle. The move ends when you hit an enemy or after 6 seconds, after which the move goes on cooldown.
If you run past an ally, you will pick them up and carry them on your back. If you collide with an enemy, you’ll deal 2.5x more damage and Stun them for 1 second.
The ally can dismount by using any Move, but they can use their basic attack freely without dismounting.
The ally pokemon cannot be targeted by enemies while riding.
Goats are known for two things, eating anything and fighting anything. While Gogoat’s diet won’t come into scrutiny for this post, we have to utilize its brazen headstrong attitude for most of its attacks. Starting off, Tackle is a straightforward move that sends Skiddo running forward at increased speed, letting it damage an enemy and allows it to keep running afterwards.
Tackle is how Skiddo and Gogoat operate as emergency transport, as they will pick up allies that need a lift when they pass by. Unlike Lapras’ Unite Move, Lapras Express, allies will dismount easily when they try to use a move, but the upside is that you don’t stop running when you hit an enemy. Just know that, because Tackle ends when you hit someone, you won’t be able to pick up allies afterwards, so using it to dive into a fight to save an ally will not work out the way you think it will.
On the plus side, Tackle hits harder and Stuns if you run into an enemy while carrying someone, which can give your teammate the opening they need to unleash some burst damage, or the equivalent of such attacks available to them in the early game. If only there was a way to power them up for that inevitable confrontation.
Oh wait, there is!
-
Move 2: Growth (Buff)
The pokemon’s Attack and Sp. Attack is boosted for a short while. Any ally you are carrying also receives this boost. 6s cooldown.
Your Attack and Sp. Attack increase by 50% for 5 seconds. The ally you are carrying will also receive this boost if you use this move while they are on your back.
Similar to Crustle’s Shell Smash, Skiddo and Gogoat have an option to amplify their offensive capabilities with an easy to refresh buff available to them. Growth boosts your Attack and Sp. Attack by 50% for 5 seconds, and you can even share that buff with your teammate when they’re riding on you. And because the buff runs out 1 second before the Move comes off of cooldown, you can quickly reset the buff to keep up the fight, sooner if you have any cooldown manipulating items and emblems.
Now, while your ally does get a free X Attack through Growth, they cannot use any Moves while riding you without dismounting. They can only spam the basic attack button and activate their ability if they are able to, meaning the best teammates to take advantage of this arrangement is an ally with a very effective basic attack like Mewtwo Y or Dreepy. Not to say that Melee attackers can’t make it work, but some of them may be forced to dismount if their basic attack forces them to dash like Leafeon or Zacian. Just focus on getting your allies to where they need to go and drop them off with a helpful power boost.
I mean, you can also join in the fight too, but maybe you should take a backseat to scuffles until you’re high leveled enough to evolve.
-
Tumblr media
At Level 5, Skiddo will evolve into Gogoat. At the same time, Tackle will become either Horn Leech or Aerial Ace.
-
Move 1a: Horn Leech (Recovery)
The pokemon charges with its horns outward, damaging enemies and restoring HP. You can pick up an ally pokemon during the charge, dealing increased damage to enemies and restoring more HP. The ally will also restore HP when Horn Leech damages enemies. 9s cooldown.
At Level 10, Horn Leech becomes Horn Leech+.
Increases movement speed and HP restored.
For 6 seconds, Gogoat will move with its horns displayed outward. When Gogoat deals damage during Horn Leech, your HP is restored relative to the damage dealt.
If you pass by an ally pokemon, you will pick them up and carry them on your back. Like with Tackle, the ally can dismount with any Move but they can use their basic attacks freely.
Horn Leech deals 50% more damage and restores 20% more HP to you when carrying an ally. The carried ally also restores HP.
Your movement speed during Horn Leech is increased by 35%. Horn Leech+ increases this to 50% and you restore an additional 15% more HP through Horn Leech.
Horn Leech does the same thing for you as Tackle, in that you rush forward at increased movement speed and can damage enemies, but improves upon the move in all the important ways. Firstly, Horn Leech will not end when you run into someone, but instead after a set amount of time has passed. Secondly, as it is implied by the name, you do restore some HP relative to the amount of damage you deal to enemies gored by your horns.
And thirdly, you can pick up an ally while running headfirst with Horn Leech. They will still be stuck on your back until they dismount by using a Move, but it may be in their best interest to stay seated if they’ve taken a bit of a beating. Horn Leech will restore the HP of the ally riding on your back, whether you run into Wild Pokemon or the opposing team. You get to do some extra damage and heal some more out of the exchange, which is a nice compromise as you take all of the damage for your allies while giving them a ride.
Horn Leech is useful for rushing into a big fight and for making a big escape, as the attack doesn’t end when you hit someone. You are still vulnerable to damage and hindrances, so watch out for those in either situation.
If your need for speed is greater than your need to feed, Aerial Ace will be your preferred Move overall.
-
Move 1b: Aerial Ace (Dash/Buff)
The pokemon dashes forward and quickly dashes back, Stunning enemies hit by both attacks. Your movement speed increases afterwards for a short while. If a teammate is within range, the teammate is picked up and gains a movement speed boost when they dismount. If this move is used while a teammate is riding you, the user zigzags while dashing forward, increasing movement speed and Stunning enemies on hit and becoming Invincible during the attack. 5s cooldown.
At Level 10, Aerial Ace becomes Aerial Ace+.
Expands the range of the attack and increases Movement Speed gained.
Your Movement Speed increases by 35% for 3 seconds after using Aerial Ace. Hitting an enemy with both cuts of Aerial Ace Stuns them for 1 second.
If you use this attack on a teammate, you will pick them up and put them on your back in one quick motion. When they dismount, by using any Move, they will gain a 35% Movement Speed boost for 5 seconds.
When Gogoat is carrying an ally, it will move in a zigzag pattern quickly when it uses Aerial Ace. This briefly makes Gogoat and the ally it is carrying Invincible during the attack and your Movement Speed also increases by 35% for 3 seconds.
Aerial Ace+ doubles the range of the move and increases all Movement Speed boosts to 50%.
You ever see an ally getting their muffins mixed by multiple enemies? Don’t you ever think, ‘man, if only I could save them’? Well, that becomes possible with Aerial Ace, as not only does the move allow you to quickly dash in and out of a fight, picking up your teammate along the way, you’ll even Stun any enemies you managed to hit with both slashes of the move!
Not only that, you get a pretty nifty speed boost right afterwards, allowing you and your teammate to escape easily. Your teammate also gets this speed boost when they dismount as well if they need a quick pick-me-up to clear out the Central Area as soon as possible. Aerial Ace is designed for bold rescue operations such as this, and you are able to do this multiple times thanks to the low cooldown of the Move. It’s great for saving an ally that lacks the mobility to get away from a problematic opponent, but it’s also useful for Stunning enemies as needed, controlling the fight and keeping the power struggle in your favor.
Because of the move’s low cooldown, you can expect to have access to Aerial Ace again after a short ride. Since you’re already carrying an ally, Aerial Ace turns into an evasive dash that has you completely Invincible during the attack, allowing you to evade long range attacks like Inteleon’s Snipe Shot. It’s also a compelling opener to a team fight while carrying a bulky All-Rounder like Aegislash or Buzzwole, allowing you to dive into the middle of a fight and unleashing the most powerful attack from the center of the scuffle.
Of course, at this point, all you have to augment the power of your and your allies’ attack is just Growth, which is serviceable, but can be improved upon.
-
At Level 7, Growth becomes either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb.
-
Move 2a: Bulk Up (Buff)
The pokemon’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, and Sp. Defense increase, and its HP recovery effects are also strengthened. If you are carrying an Ally Pokemon on your back, the ally receives these boosts as well. In addition, you and your ally gain Unstoppable for a short while. 10.5s cooldown.
At Level 12, Bulk Up becomes Bulk Up+.
Further increases boosts gained.
When Bulk Up is used, Gogoat’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, and Sp. Defense increase by 60% for 6 seconds. Any HP you recover is restored by an additional 30% as well during the boost. If you are carrying an Ally Pokemon, the ally gains these boosts as well.
If you are carrying an Ally when you use Bulk Up, you and your Ally gain Unstoppable for 2.5 seconds.
Bulk Up+ increases the boosts gained to 75%. HP recovery effects are strengthened by 50% as well.
The extra HP your allies recover through Bulk Up will show on the results screen as attributed to you.
Goats are known to have some of the greatest moxie in the animal kingdom, which explains their questionable need to headbutt everything they see. I don’t know where it comes from, but in Gogoat’s case, it probably has something to do with its Bulk Up Move.
With one move, Gogoat’s Attack, Sp. Attack, Defense, Sp. Defense, and HP Recovery increase greatly for a short while. This allows Gogoat the muscle power it needs to join in team fights, whether to help finish off the enemy or to make a desperate retreat. While the Sp. Attack boost is useless to you, Bulk Up shares the boost with Ally pokemon riding you, which makes Bulk Up a helpful boon to any of your possible teammates.
Speaking of which, popping Bulk Up with an ally on your back grants you and your teammate the Unstoppable Status Effect, making you nearly impossible to hold down with hindrances. It won’t be of much help to an ally if you’re using this move to escape, but if you were to rush into a fight, Bulk Up would make for a powerful opener for you and a friend to crash the party with.
The powered up HP recovery effect means that you’ll restore a bit more HP from recovery effects like Horn Leech or Potion. If your allies understand what the Bulk Up boost grants you, they can also pop their own recovery for some extra juice, like the Potion Item or through moves like Venusaur’s Giga Drain or Goodra’s Dragon Pulse. It also means extra healing if you chose Horn Leech over Aerial Ace, though Horn Leech won’t be missed as much if your teammates have reliable sustain like Umbreon’s Wish or Buzzwole’s Leech Life. Though keep in mind that any move they use will cause them to dismount off of Gogoat, so you better come up with a plan of attack while riding to battle.
Though perhaps you can engineer an attack on your own terms to catch the enemy by surprise.
-
Move 2b: Seed Bomb (Area)
Launches a parade of hard shelled seeds on the designated area, damaging enemies and greatly reducing their Attack and Defense. If a teammate is riding you, they are thrown along with the seeds, dealing more damage and stunning enemies on hit. 7s cooldown.
At Level 12, Seed Bomb becomes Seed Bomb+.
Expands the range of the attack and further decreases Attack and Defense.
Seed Bomb decreases the enemies Attack and Defense by 75% for 7 seconds. If an ally was on your back when you use this move, the attacks deals 2.5x more damage and Stuns enemies that are hit by the shock wave caused by your allies’ landing for 0.5 seconds.
Seed Bomb+ further decreases the Attack and Defense of damaged enemies to 100%. The range is also effectively doubled.
Using this move forces you to stop moving, even while riding with Horn Leech.
While Bulk Up offers a variety of boosts to benefit any possible ally, Seed Bomb works in contrast by debuffing enemies with a concentrated effect. It can only debuff Attack and Defense, but the severity of the debuff is much stronger than Bulk Up’s boons and lasts for as long as the move’s cooldown. This means that, if you are up against physical enemies like Crustle or Tyranitar, Seed Bomb enfeebles them greatly compared to the Attack and Defense boost Bulk Up grants.
A 75% Attack and Defense debuff is no joke, as it can greatly bog down Defenders and Bulky All-Rounders that rely on those stats to take hits and return them back in kind. The debuff lasts for 7 seconds, which is just as long as the move’s cooldown, allowing you to reapply the debuff almost immediately when it wears off, putting the pressure on the opposition. Of course, you’ll need an Attack focused ally to take advantage of this debuff, though Melee Attackers will have the time of their life thanks to Seed Bomb’s secondary effect.
Since Gogoat launches Seed Bomb from its back, any ally it’s giving a ride to will be ejected just as well, turning them into a projectile. They’ll hit the ground with a solid thud, dealing extra damage to enemies and also stunning them briefly, in addition to hitting them with debuffs. That brief moment of Stun is all the time you need to start laying the smack down on the enemy, especially if they’re an Attack based All-Rounder or Defender like Aegislash or Trevenant. Ranged Attackers like Decidueye and Cinderace can also start putting holes in the enemy team, but they’ll have to dismount shortly before Gogoat uses Seed Bomb so that they don’t get caught in the middle of the enemy team when they wake up.
Seed Bomb+ expands the area of effect and even debuffs enemies even further when they get hit, allowing you to greatly debilitate a larger group of enemies, especially during the Rayquaza fight. You just have to hope that the ally you’re throwing will also be sufficiently leveled enough to clean up afterwards, as you can expect the entire enemy team to be there.
As strong as Gogoat is, it’s only a distraction that empowers its teammates with free rides and boons. Yes, it hits hard, but only so that it can either finish off weakened enemies or to soften them up for its allies. As such, it’s Unite Move perfectly encapsulates Gogoat’s ability to occupy an enemy for the team.
-
Unite Move: Clashing Crowns (Dash)
The pokemon charges at an enemy and locks heads with it, forcing the enemy into a contest of strength. You and the target must mash the attack button repeatedly to overpower the other. If you win, the enemy will lose a portion of their HP and have their defenses reduced for a short while. The enemy will lose more HP if they do not mash enough. If you lose, you will lose half of your HP. If you have an ally pokemon riding you, they can also join in, adding their strength to yours.
Similar to Slowbro’s Slow Beam and Mimikyu’s Play With Me..., this Unite Move forces an enemy into an immovable state. The clash lasts only for 3 seconds, though.
Assuming the enemy mashes to the maximum degree but loses the clash regardless, the least HP an enemy can lose to this Unite Move is 20%. However, if the enemy barely mashes, they can lose up to 50% of their HP.
If you lose the mashing contest, you will lose 50% of your HP regardless of how well you mashed. An ally pokemon riding you can mash as well during the clash, contributing their strength to yours.
In extremely rare circumstances where both players are evenly matched, neither player will lose HP.
HP lost is based on the percentage of remaining HP and is classified as piercing damage. This Unite Move can never KO.
The enemy will have their Defense and Sp. Defense reduced by 75% for 8 seconds after losing.
Both you and the enemy can still be targeted and damaged by other players. The Unite Move will be cancelled if you are KO’d.
When a pokemon is targeted, they will adopt the same idle animation as charging a score in a Goal Zone. Pokemon like Lucario, Machamp, Pikachu, and Charizard have cool poses, but others have strange and goofy ones, like Mr. Mime juggling balls or Chandelure waving its arms around. These aren’t intentional, these are just the scoring animations each pokemon has.
Only opposing Gogoats will use a unique animation when targeted by Clashing Crowns.
When a goat charges at you, you have to turn away instead of charging them head on. The reason for that is because goats are built for literal head-to-head combat, and you are risking major damage to yourself by stooping to their level. But when you’re a Gogoat in a world of competition, everyone else might as well look like goats.
Clashing Crowns is a powerful Unite Move that challenges the first enemy you run into to a test of strength. Upon a successful hit, you and the enemy will be locked in mortal mashing, pounding the attack button as much as you can to claim victory. Because of how easy it is to catch an enemy off-guard, you’ll have a head start on the button bashing power. Though you shouldn’t be surprised to run into an enemy well versed at mashing mini-games, as it is possible to lose this encounter.
Firstly, the fight lasts only for 3 seconds, during which either you or the enemy can get damaged by opposing team members. Even without anyone to interfere in the contest, the loser of the clash can lose a percentage of their HP if they don’t mash enough. For the opponent, they can lose half of their HP if they don’t really try all that hard, or up to 20% if they barely lose. But in your case, since you’re the one who initiated the duel, you’ll lose 50% of your HP for losing, regardless of how well you mashed.
You can guarantee victory by starting Clashing Crown with an ally riding on your back, as they can join in on the mashing as well. It’s a bit cheap to gang up on one enemy, but it’s not without cost. Remember, the Unite Move lasts for 3 seconds, during which you and an ally are occupied with an enemy, leaving the rest of your team in a 3v4 situation, which isn’t ideal in normal circumstances. During that time frame, the entire team can be wiped out because of the power difference, especially if you used Clashing Crowns with someone bulky on your back. Perhaps it would be best to ride with someone underleveled or when multiple enemies are respawning, to make up for the time lost.
As annoying as Clashing Crowns is, this Unite Move can never KO an enemy due to the damage dealt being based on remaining HP. It wouldn’t be worth using the move on a weakened enemy, especially since Gogoat is very strong for a Supporter and can go for the KO themselves. Maybe you can impede an opposing Defender or All-Rounder, but without backup, they’ll come out of the clash annoyed at you, and some can even restore their own HP if they can easily sustain themselves. You’ll need allies with you to make the most of this Unite Move, and I’m not just talking about the free ride mechanic. Gogoat can support a team well if there’s teammates nearby to support.
A rampaging goat can easily draw all the attention in the room. Take advantage of this opening and seize victory head on!
-
Achievements
Make 12 Assists in a single round.
Gogoat’s main function on teams is to provide free rides with some extra benefits through its moves. With Horn Leech and Aerial Ace scooping up allies, it’s easy to charge straight into a fight, but this achievement is about accumulating Assists, not KO’s.
For the most part, you and your allies benefit greatly from timely uses of either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb, but you have to know when it is optimal to dive into fights without getting yourself KO’d in turn. To that end, you should prepare with a shield gained by Grass Pelt, which you can share with an ally while standing in Tall Grass. It may take about 6 seconds to accrue a large shield, but it’ll be worth it to not get immediately destroyed by burst damage thrown at you by the opposing team.
After that, the fight can go however you want, especially if your ally is a ranged attacker. Though keep in mind that your ally will dismount if they use a Move, so you gotta open with either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb, then whittle the enemy down so that your teammate can clean up afterwards.
Your Unite Move, Clashing Crowns, makes this a lot easier as you cannot KO an enemy with the move, but you will take a large chunk of their HP in the exchange, which can be enough for a teammate to finish them off. I know you’d probably prefer to get the KO for yourself, but remember, you were a sitting duck for those 3 seconds. You gotta pull back and let your teammates fight too, especially if you were walloped while waging war with the enemy.
Don’t butt heads with your friends, butt heads with your enemies instead.
-
Holowear
Because Gogoat has an entire gimmick based on giving rides to its allies, we can’t really put anything big and flashy on its back. But that’s completely fine, as less is more, as they say.
Starting off, we have Explorer Style Holowear that gives Gogoat a brown explorer’s hat and loads of satchels and sacks hanging off of its sides. Warm Style Holowear gives it a beanie, a big scarf, and some comfy looking pants on its backside. Western Style Holowear gives it a big cowboy hat, a sheriff’s badge, and a poncho draped over its body. Gardener Style Holowear gives Gogoat a big sun hat, some overalls with shears and trowels peeking out of the pockets, and a sprig of wheat hanging out of its mouth. And lastly, Punk Style Holowear gives the goat some cool shades, bracelets on its horns and ankles, and a black leather suit that covers its body. Gotta ride in style, you know?
-
Strategy
Much of what you need to accomplish as Gogoat can be learned from playing Lapras, and vice versa. If you want to make for a good Supporter, you gotta bring yourself and an ally to where the important fight is. If you want to make for a great Supporter, you do that and more by dealing a lot of damage and making Assists.
Supporters are split into two camps; you have healers and buffers like Blissey and Eldegoss, and then you have those that specialize in distractions like Sableye and Mr. Mime. Some of them dabble in alternative proficiency, but for the most part, they’re the shoulders to lean on during a fight. Gogoat breaks this mold by not only doing both, but also dealing just as much damage to opposing teams in fights as its fellow Attackers and All-Rounders. This is what happens when you make friends with a stubborn goat.
First off, while its ride mechanic is somewhat weaker than Lapras’ Unite Move, Lapras Express, Gogoat compensates for that with the ability to empower the ally riding on it with healing and shields. With Horn Leech, you can drain HP from all enemies you run into, refilling the HP bar of yourself and an ally, which can be useful to save them from certain KO or to top them off before joining a fight. With Aerial Ace however, you trade in any possibility of healing with deft movement and quick strikes, allowing you to save a friend from getting ganged up on. It also turns into an invincible cutting attack while an ally is on your back, which can be useful in escaping long range shots and Unite Moves.
Regardless of which move you choose, these attacks form the crux of your ability to support the team as a Supporter. These moves, and Tackle, are the only way you can pick up allies to ride with, which is also the only way you can share a shield with them through your Grass Pelt ability. It takes 6 seconds to gain a massive 25% shield, which scales to your HP, but any amount will be greatly appreciated by your ally Defender or All-Rounder. If they are impatient, an ally can choose to dismount with any move, so don’t fault them for opting to jump back into the fight instead of waiting for Grass Pelt to fill out the shield.
Speaking of which, it’s also on your allies to understand how riding works, since the move is different from how Lapras does it. Only basic attacks can be used repeatedly while riding on Gogoat, and maybe some abilities that can be activated, and even then, a basic attack can force the ally to dismount if it makes them dash forward, like Gengar or Aegislash. Any Move will also cause a dismount, even if it’s only a buff like Crustle’s Shell Smash or Dodrio’s Agility, and this also include Unite Moves. It can be frustrating to manage allies if they keep accidentally hopping off, but thankfully it’s easy enough to pick a friend back up, as Horn Leech and Aerial Ace have much shorter cooldowns than Lapras Express.
While you have them on your back, you can power up yourself and your allies with either Bulk Up or Seed Bomb. Bulk Up grants a universal boost to all stats and your HP recovery, sharing it with a riding ally. If you use it while giving a ride to someone, you’ll both get Unstoppable for a short while. If you prefer to take the enemy by surprise, Seed Bomb is a great option, as it has a stronger debuff effect. It’ll also toss your ally at enemies, along with the Seed Bomb attack, stunning enemies hit directly by your launched ally. If you throw a teammate that thrives in close quarters combat like Snorlax or Scizor, your team will have a very powerful opening advantage in a team fight. Just make sure that your ally is in on the plan of attack as well, maybe make a pit stop in a nearby plot of Tall Grass before starting the fight.
Your Unite Move, Clashing Crowns, is what will really turn the tides of battle in your favor. Being able to occupy an enemy for a short amount of time is a powerful effect, as we’ve learned from Slowbro’s Slow Beam and Mimikyu’s Play With Me. While you’re guaranteed to have an enemy’s attention for 3 seconds, you can also take away a big chunk of their HP bar by mashing the attack button furiously. No matter how good the enemy mashes, they’re guaranteed to lose at least 20% of their HP if they lose the mashing contest, though you’re also guaranteed to lose 50% of your own HP if you pick a fight and end up losing. You can use an ally riding on your back as backup, but it’s advised not to do this during team fights as your allies will be down 3-to-4 for those 3 seconds, which is all the time it takes for something to go completely wrong. Clashing Crowns is at its strongest during other Objective fights like Regieleki or one of the Regi Trio in Bottom Lane, as it’s very rare to engage the entire enemy team in one lane over the other (of which there’s a lot to be said about that situation...).
But most importantly, Gogoat is also packing some serious muscle. You’re at your strongest leading an ally into battle and then buffing them up with Grass Pelt or Bulk Up, or hindering the enemy with Aerial Ace and or Seed Bomb, but those are your opening gambits. The rest of the fight sees a wild and furious goat kicking and screaming and biting at all perceived danger, and Gogoat can do some serious damage thanks to its above average Attack stat. It can either stun the enemy repeatedly with Aerial Ace, or run around healing itself with Horn Leech, and it can use these moves at any time to either beat the enemy into submission or to make a break for freedom with an ally in tow.
Goats are as dependable as they are useful, as humans have known for thousands of years. We took care of them, so make sure that this one takes care of you, friend or foe.
-
And this has been Gogoat for Pokemon Unite! Since I was very spot on with how Lapras was integrated into Pokemon Unite, I figured, ‘well, what if ANOTHER pokemon had a ride mechanic?’ and whaddya know, there are other ride pokemon like Lapras! Maybe I could’ve chosen Mantine or something for a Supporter ride pokemon, but I kinda like Gogoat as a concept. Y’know, gruff green grass goat with an ability that people think is useless, so I can use Pokemon Unite to transform it into something endearing and useful. That’s about half the reason I come up with these posts.
Anyway, that’ll be it from me. See ya next week!

A Treat for Me and You [Bede x Gloria]
Tumblr media
Halloween One Shot
[Read on AO3]
Champion duties always extended off the battlefield. And right now, Halloween marked just another expectation the region had for her. A friendly face hosting a kid-friendly evening for the children of Wyndon. Laughter from the kids eventually started to dwindle down to the last stragglers, piles of candy nearly diminished, sweet smiles and well wishes from Gloria to everyone who visited the stadium in hopes of treats slowly growing more tired.
She pushed through.
She didn’t mind Halloween, however, clad in her Skwovet ensemble. After enough years of experience, however, she knew she was going to be rather late to her promised engagement. She luckily told Bede about the chance of this, to not wait up for her, to focus on his own duties and that she would appear when she would.
But the second Leon placed a firm hand on her shoulder, and a low “great job today, Champ,” she knew that was her sign to go. Waving goodbye quickly and easily before bolting towards Ballonlea without a second thought.
In the moment, however, Gloria couldn’t help regretting coming to Glimwood on her own. She could’ve taken the cab, but Halloween was a busy night anyways. It would’ve taken her longer to wait than to walk.
But there was the rustling, the dimly lit path, the amplified giggles of mischief from inhabiting fae causing her fingers to tightly wring around her backpack straps.  The dark hasn’t made her comfortable in years, and on a night like this it seemed like it was calling in for careless wanderers.
They’ve never hurt her before, that’s for sure.  And she’s been through these paths so many times she’s sure she could get through it with her eyes closed. Her heart quickens in pace, anyways, at the sounds of crunching leaves, and the giggles of Impidimp--watching her carefully, and in a strange way escorting her.
Or so she hoped.
“You should know better than to come here alone, Champion. Plenty of things bite.”
Gloria squeaks, hand already preemptively reaching for a poke ball to defend herself from whatever or…whomever. As she turns around to see Bede, clad Hatterene witches hat and robe. Glowing from the nearby neon, and the confident look on his face melting into something full of concern and irritation.
A look she’s sure only she’s ever seen.
“You should’ve called me when you left Wyndon.”
Gloria steps closer at the tone of his voice, her heart calming in hid presence, as she can’t help but to shrug, “I’m sure you were busy hosting your own festivities. Ballonela gets into the spirit ten fold compared to the city.”
Then she pauses.
“How’d you know I was here?”
And even in the dark even Gloria could tell he was sinking into his much higher raised collar. Surely hiding a blush that’s decorating him as beautifully as his ensemble.
“A feeling.”
A cheeky grin on her lips appears, “you messaged Leon didn’t you?’ reaching for his arm in a way only he would let her do.
But her smile doesn’t fade, “heh, you do care, Bedey.”
A grumble escaping him as he threads their arms together.
--
The usually quiet town, was bustling, fully giving into the mystique of Halloween amidst the forest. As Wyndon was winding down, she’s sure Ballonlea was just getting started. Hazels taking in the decorations, the neon, the liveliness that even tempted her to stay out past her usual bedtime.
Their walk was slow, comfortable silence between them, until Gloria catches a glimpse of some trick o treaters walking past them down the road. Noticing the gaze Bede throws at them. Something longing, and somber.
Bede currently, however, was a man on a mission. Relief seeming to fill him the closer his cottage came into view. And when the voices fade when his cottage door closes, Gloria can hear Bede exhale in exhaustion. His body making way towards his plush couch--to sit for probably the first time in hours.
“Did you not enjoy the gym festivities?” couch shifting under her weight as she sits next to Bede, her head landing comfortably on his shoulder.
His eyes don’t bother opening.
“You of all people should know there are limits to exposing oneself to exuberance.”
“And I also know how much you love the gym and town.”
Violets finally peering down towards her, allowing Gloria to fully take him in his costume. The shades of pink and purple working with his skin tone beautifully, his curls still immaculate even now that the hat has been removed.
He looked like royalty and someone who could cast a spell on her all at once.
And truthfully she’s sure he already has enchanted her and the whole town.
“You’re blushing, my dear.”
Gloria feeling how hot her cheeks had gotten at just the image of Bede, let alone that smirk he could still muster.
“And you’re unfair,” pout appearing underneath rosy cheeks.
The low laugh rumbling from his chest only proving her case, fingers reaching over to pinch her rounded cheeks, “and my sweet Skwovet also has something on her mind.”
Rosiness becomes scarlet at the suave drop of that pet name--a favorite pet name for her as of late. It was something that started off as an observation he made of her eating habits, how while gobbling down her meal, and his a lot of the time, her cheeks looked rather pronounced. Just like that of the little chubby cheeked squirrels that often scampered around the region...although he also took great pleasure in pinching at her face to tease her or to chide her about something. ...maybe in a costume like this, she was inviting it.
So his fingers stay there, firmly placed in her dimples,  until she speaks her mind.
How Bede could read her so well was sometimes beyond her, but it was something she appreciated nonetheless. The silent understandings, the subtle gestures of affection, everything that made Bede’s care visible to her.
“Do you want to go trick or treating?”
His eyes narrow, “absolutely not.”  His fingers pinching ever so slightly harder, “whatever could bring on a ludicrous thought such as that?”
“Bweeeeede,” Gloria whines at the tug, getting a chuckle out of him before she places her hand over his. Begging for mercy, and for a moment to talk properly.
“I saw how you looked at the passerby earlier,” eyes softening even under his ministrations.
“Have you ever gotten a chance to?”
His hold on her eases, knowing fully well that he has never actually participated in Halloween. But now that’s she’s questioning him he’s not sure if he should feel more sorrow over missing out on yet another part of childhood.
“No, but I’m far too old now.”
“Bede you’re 20, and never too old for tricks or treats,” she says matter-of-factly, fingers rubbing up and down her sore cheek, but Bede doesn’t budge from his stance.
“Fine," Gloria mumbles. Shifting ever so slightly, to reach into her pocket. “Then I’ll bring the treat to you,” her hands pulling out a single wrapped piece of candy.
“You worked hard today, Bede,” placing the little piece of chocolate on his lips, allowing him to take it all in.
Watching carefully in how his expression melts at the sugary treat, the smile on his lips.
The temptation to lean in, bubbling in her.
And so she does, placing her own lips right on top of his softly.
“I deserve a treat too.”
Bede rolling his eyes, “you’re insatiable, my dear,” as his fingers elegantly reach to bring her back for a much longer kiss this time around.

Whooo, this one was a doosie. I’ve always liked the brat boy, I’ve just never written him before. I enjoyed writing him, though! And I hope y’all enjoy reading this!
This is one of the transformations described in @lulzyrobot‘s masterpost of their dynamorph au.
“Please, can we just get on with today’s training?” Never before had Bede been looking forward to the bothersome training that the retired Ballonlea Gym Leader subjected him to. After the incident with Eternatus, he just needed a distraction, and Fairy Types and quizzes sounded good enough.
“Bede, I was actually hoping to discuss a new stage of training with you,” Opal said, still blocking the way to the dressing room that his uniform was in. “Let’s go get some tea and talk this over.” She hooked the end of her umbrella around his arm and began dragging him out of the Gym.
“Can’t we do this another day?” he asked, trying to free himself.
“Do you want to slow your advance to be the best?” After a reluctant head shake, she gave a hum and continued on her way to the Pokémon Center.
The two ordered from the cafe and sat at a table outside. An Indeedee poured two cups for them, leaving the pot of tea on the table.
“So, what was this new training you were talking about?” he asked after taking a sip.
“Before we get into that,” Opal began, setting her cup down, “we need to have a little talk.” This caused him to tense slightly. “Last night, you lost someone very important to you.”
“I won’t let that interfere with my training, if that’s what you’re worried about,” he cut in. She sighed.
“That’s not what I’m worried about. What I’m worried about is you.” Bede was taken aback for a moment. ”How are you feeling? If you need some time off of training to grieve, you can have it. Hatterene was your partner; loosing someone that meant a lot to you can take a toll-”
“That doesn’t mean that I need to stop working!” Bede snapped. “Just tell me what I need to work on next and I’ll get it done!” He wasn’t used to being able to focus on his feelings, but that’s what his mentor was trying to get him to do. His eyes started to burn and he felt tears threatening to spill over. He squeezed them shut and scrubbed at his face, getting rid of the ones that slipped through.
“Child, I don’t think burying yourself in training and avoiding your feelings would be healthy for you. Hatterene was-”
“Yes! I know!” he exploded. He stood up, making his chair fall backwards; his eyes snapped open to glare at the retired Gym Leader, somehow leaving her in shocked silence despite him having outbursts before. “I know that Hatterene was important to me! She was the only one to stick with me through everything I’ve gone through. She was the only one who saw me as a person rather than a tool for years, and now I’m pretty sure she died protecting me, but I can’t even be sure that she’s gone because there was nothing of her left!” It felt like something was trying to weigh him down, but he ignored it in favor of continuing his rant. “This is how I deal with my feelings. I dealt with feeling inadequate by working to make something of myself. I dealt with my feeling of being used and being disowned by devoting myself to your training. I dealt... with...” He paused for a moment; a splitting headache had distracted him enough to see the near-horrified look Opal was giving him. “What are you looking at...?”
This was answered when pain burst through his head. He tried to reach up to feel what was causing the stabbing ache, but his hands hit something in the way up. Straining his eyes, he looked up. A pastel blue witch hat was what was blocking his hands from getting to the top of his head.
“What?” Bede started to panic. He realized that out of the corners of his eyes, he could spy the same shade of blue. Looking around, he saw that the color was on a curtain of hair surrounding him, and that it dissolved into a pastel pink before fading to near-white.
He took a step back in shock, stepping on something in the process. He fell back, unable to catch himself around all the hair wrapping around him. Looking to see what he tripped on, he saw his legs completely obstructed by white hair, making it impossible for him to walk.
“Wha- Hatterene?” he quietly asked himself. He felt something move on its own on top of his head.
Suddenly, it felt like a wave crashed over him, making it hard to breathe. Trying to figure out where it came from, he looked up at Opal, who had gotten up to crouch beside him. When he made eye-contact with her, another flood of nothing came at him. He noticed an aura that surround her that had been growing larger the longer he sat there.
His eyes were beginning to glaze over; he felt overwhelmed with every sensation surrounding him.
A sharp ringing cut through the haze that started coating Bede’s mind. He felt his phone buzzing in his coat pocket, but ignored it for what he saw in front of him. Besides, they hung up a moment later.
In front of him, Opal had jumped back, a clawed tentacle stopped just above her head, leading back to the top of his hat.
“I- I’m sorry!” he shouted. He drew the tentacle back towards him, grabbing it and holding it close to himself.
“No, no, it’s fine,” she tried to comfort. He could somehow feel her pushing back on whatever the aura was, trying to make it smaller. “I should’ve known that would overwhelm you.”
He took a moment, focusing on what he was seeing and feeling before he realized.
Tears slipped past eyelids as he looked up at his mentor who was trying to comfort him. Never before could he physically see and feel that someone was concerned about him.

Finding Comfort in the Silence
Bede/Gloria (dressedinpinkshipping)
angst/hurt/comfort
-
The dreary afternoon sky over Hammerlocke cast the bustling city under a cold shadow. Dark clouds blotted out the sun. Bede hefted the shopping bags in his arms higher as he prepared to leave the crowds behind him and make his way back to Ballonlea. He didn't mind the trek. He was more than happy to spend time walking back to Ballonlea by himself rather than deal with another person. Sky Taxi drivers were friendly, but talkative.
Silence was always preferable.
Silence that was interrupted before Bede could set a single foot outside Hammerlocke. His phone burst to life in his pocket with a cheery jingle he'd never bothered to change. He rolled his eyes and huffed. What he wouldn't give for a few moments of peace and quiet…
Bede unceremoniously deposited the shopping bags on a nearby bench and dug his noisy phone from his pocket. A number he didn't recognise stared back at him. With a sigh, he accepted the call and held the phone to his ear.
"Hello?" Bede answered. Poised to end the call in a split second if it turned out to be spam.
"Hey, mate! It's Hop!"
Hop?
"What do you want?"
Bede glanced at the shopping bags on the bench, mindful that Ms Opal was waiting for him to return.
"Ah, I was wondering if you've seen Gloria around recently?" There was a nervousness to Hop's voice that made Bede straighten. His brow furrowed.
"I haven't. Why do you ask?"
A pause.
"Well…"
"Out with it. You've already gone to the trouble of calling me; you may as well fill me in. What has the Champion done this time?"
He was ready to roll his eyes. To scoff after hearing the latest of Gloria's antics.
"She's gone missing."
Everything went numb. Bede almost dropped his phone. He caught the device before it had fallen more than a foot, the world spinning around him. Hop's words echoed in his ears.
"What do you mean she's gone missing?!" Bede barked, jamming his phone against his ear as restless indignation erupted in his chest, burning his lungs.
"I mean, we don't know where she is, that's all."
"That's all?!"
"Look, mate, she ran out of an interview this afternoon and she didn't come back. I thought maybe she'd gone to you or something."
Bede exhaled a sharp sigh through his teeth. "When did this happen?"
"Uh… I think it was around two o'clock."
"That's over two hours ago."
"I know. We were waiting to see if she came back or turned up anywhere. She hasn't gone home."
"Have you tried calling her?"
Bede heard Hop scoff on the other end.
"That was the first thing we tried! She left all her stuff behind, including her Pokemon."
Including her Pokemon .
Bede dropped onto the bench before his legs weakened any further. He stared at the pavement in a daze.
"Bede?"
He swallowed, steeling himself, and his focus, back into place. "Where was the interview?"
"Hammerlocke stadium. It was after her exhibition match with Raihan."
Hammerlocke. Bede glanced up the street. The dark stone buildings became wedges of black against the grey sky. The street lamps had yet to flicker on, leaving the city in shadows as the sun dipped lower, hidden by the clouds.
She could still be here.
Bede's mind ticked over. "I'll let you know if I see her," he said to Hop, unable to promise anything more.
"Thanks, mate. I'll keep you updated if we find her!"
"Thank you."
Bede stood, slipping his phone into his pocket before drawing out a Pokeball. Hatterene appeared from the burst of light, her dark eyes fixing on her trainer. He wondered what emotions she could feel ebbing from him. The haze of thoughts in his mind were difficult to pick through. His gut churned with a myriad of emotions, each fighting their way up his throat, each threatening to choke him. He clenched his hands into fists.
"Hatterene, can you locate Gloria?" he asked, forcing the turmoil inside his chest to settle. He took a breath, then another. "She might be in distress."
Hatterene tilted her head, a bead of worry in her face as she studied her trainer. Felt each of the emotions he tried to quash. With a chime of affirmation, she closed her eyes. It wasn't long before they snapped open, her head turning to the side with a cry. She pointed with her tentacle down a side street.
Everything slowed.
"She's here?"
Hatterene chimed again. Bede stared down the street Hatterene pointed out, a trickle of unease settling in his veins before he brushed it aside. He scooped up the shopping bags with a curt nod.
"Lead the way."
They set off in the direction Hatterene indicated. Each step Bede took pounded beneath him and echoed the thumping of his heart. Hatterene drifted down a set of stairs and he followed, skipping two, or three, steps at a time. The coil around his throat tightened. He saw Hatterene glance at him more than once, saw the flicker of pain in her eyes as his emotions washed over her in tumultuous waves.
He set his jaw and focused on the streets ahead. They wound further into the streets of Hammerlocke, deeper into the city than Bede had ever ventured before. Away from the crowds. Away from the noise and the bustle and the people. Into silence. Accompanied only by Bede's footsteps, they powered on.
He wouldn't have seen her if Hatterene hadn't drifted to a halt, sounding a quiet cry. He stilled beside her. She pointed at the side of a building cast in shadow, a darker form curled up against it on the floor.
Bede's heart plummeted. The figure, that tiny form curled up into itself against the hard stone, shook. He knew at once it was her. He drew a step forward, his foot ghosting over the pavement, not silent enough as her head snapped up. Their eyes met and he froze in place. The look of shock on her face splintered, collapsing and fragmenting with pain before she dropped her head into her knees. A broken sob reached his ears.
The strength in Bede's bones crumbled and he slumped where he stood, the shopping bags tumbling to the floor at his feet. He heard nothing but her shaky breath. Not his heart in his ears, not the crash of cans and milk on the pavement, not Hatterene's croon of worry. Everything faded but her.
A step forward and she stiffened. Two steps and her sniffling stabbed like ice through his chest. A third and he could see how tightly she held herself, arms crushing her knees to her chest. Four was all it took to stand beside her. Even as she pressed her face to her knees, he could see the glistening of tears on her cheeks. Her body shuddered with every breath. He dropped to the ground beside her as if his legs had collapsed beneath him. She turned her head away.
Something fractured inside him.
"Why…" a tiny, quavering voice split the air. "Why are- are you here…?"
Bede's hand froze in the space between them, stopping dead in its path to touch her shoulder, to give her a gesture of comfort. His mouth was dry. Lungs too empty of air, too hollow.
His hand dropped to his side.
"Everyone's looking for you," he said, turning his face away from her.
His gaze dropped to the ground. In the corner of his eyes, he saw the way her shoulders shook, the way she rubbed her cheeks on her knees to force away the tears. Her quiet sniffling was deafening in the silence.
She didn't say anything. She didn't give any indication that she'd heard him or that she cared. That she didn't care that people were looking for her. About the worry she'd caused.
"They're worried about you," Bede said quietly.
Nothing. She said nothing in reply. Her silence cut deep into his chest, a cold ache gnawing into the marrow of his bones. Pain lanced through his heart. He clenched his hands on his lap, burying the urge to pull her into his arms, to hold her until she didn't have any more tears to shed.
Bede squeezed his eyes shut. He tightened his jaw as a lump wedged high in his throat. The weight of his useless arms, his useless body, fixed him in place, unable to do anything. Unable to comfort her.
A shaky breath escaped, making his bottom lip tremble. He swallowed.
"If… if you don't want me here, I'll…" He exhaled deeply. "I'll leave you alone."
She moved in the corner of his eyes. Her head shifted against her knees, turned faintly from side to side.
A knot loosened inside his gut.
"I'll stay."
His hands unclenched on his lap, the heavy weight crushing his lungs eased enough for him to breathe.
"I'll stay. For as long as you need me."
She sniffled, but the sound was fainter now. Her shaky breaths fell into a steady rhythm as she quietened. Bede calmed beside her, finding enough clarity in himself to return Hatterene to her Ball and type a quick message to Hop saying that he'd found Gloria. He put his phone on silent, not willing to risk the chance of Hop calling again.
They sat there, in silence, as the sky darkened above them. Street lamps flickered to life. The chill in the air became more pronounced as the minutes drifted by, the breeze rustling the shopping bags where Bede had dropped them. Strangely, he found that he didn't care. He didn't care what the time was, how long he'd been here. He didn't care that he'd be scolded by Ms Opal upon his return. He didn't care at all.
When Gloria finally lifted her head off her knees, the ache in Bede's heart returned. Her cheeks were red from the constant rubbing against her knees. Her eyes were puffy and bloodshot, her lashes stuck together in clumps and darkened by her tears. Her expression was hollow. Lifeless. She stared ahead, over the top of her knees, but her gaze was empty and unseeing.
With a heavy sigh, Gloria slumped. Her shoulders sagged, arms falling listlessly into her lap as her knees pulled away from her chest. Her head hung low. She sat there, motionless, as though discarded like a broken doll.
Bede looked away. A sliver of pain etched into his heart at the sight of her like that. The sight of Gloria, usually, - no, always - so upbeat and full of life, who smiled and laughed even when she stumbled, like that…
It hurt.
A weight dropped to his shoulder and Bede stiffened, a gasp catching in his throat. Soft hair tickled his neck. Warmth pressed to his side. He froze, his whole body going rigid, for a few tortuous seconds before he allowed himself to glance to the side and confirmed that Gloria was indeed resting her head on his shoulder. Confusion and shock burst through his veins with a torrent of heat. His lungs seized at the sight as he filled with warmth, as a furious and panicked blush rose up his neck to burn across his cheeks.
Wh-Wh-What is she doing?!
His brain short circuited. He couldn't comprehend how she'd gone from lifeless and broken to curling up at his side, her head on his shoulder.
"Sorry…"
Her voice was so soft and quiet, whispered in the silence between them, and stole the air from Bede's lungs.
"Can I… stay like this for a while…?"
The erratic pace of Bede's heart settled slightly at the heavy fatigue in her voice. He swallowed and looked away.
She was so warm.
"Sure."
He managed to sound calmer than he felt. The arm she pressed against sat awkwardly between them, his hand flexing on his lap. He stole a deep breath to calm himself. Waited for a tense few seconds, drumming up courage and sitting through the uncomfortable way his arm was squashed, before he shifted and wrapped his arm around her back. He settled his hand loosely on her waist, supporting her against him. She softened into him. Sagged into the space his arm had left.
Her whisper sounded so loud in the silence.
"Thank you…"
Bede couldn't reply with his heart in his throat. All she'd have to do is glance up, to look at his face, and she'd see the effect she was having on him. His cheeks scorched red. His gaze flickered from one thing to the next, unable to focus on any one thing for long, not without snapping back to her in disbelief. He didn't know what was happening. He didn't know how to react, or if he should, or what to do about the situation at all.
He no longer felt cold.
"Did you tell them I was here…?" she asked.
Bede swallowed again, his tongue feeling too large and clumsy in his mouth. "No. I messaged Hop to let him know I had found you, that's all."
He felt her sigh against him.
"I didn't mean to… worry anyone…"
The guilt in her tone drew his eyes back to her. A glimmer of light had returned to her eyes, but it was a pale comparison to the blaze that usually burned in its place.
"That's what tends to happen when you up and vanish for hours," Bede said lightly.
Silence descended over them again. Sounds from the city began to drift by in the night; a door clicking shut, mingled voices and laughter in the distance. A Corviknight beating its wings overhead. The world continued on around them but for the moment, it was as though time sat still. As though they were in a world of their own, separated from the passage of time.
"Are you… not going to ask why I ran away?" Gloria asked.
"I didn't think you would've wanted me to," he said honestly. "Although, I must admit that I am curious. It's not like you to leave in the middle of an interview, let alone disappear without your Pokemon."
"Mm…"
"Whatever did happen, you should speak to someone about it. We- Everyone was worried about you."
"How did you find me?"
"Hatterene found you."
"Oh. I guess she could sense me…" Gloria sighed. "All my stuff is still there… I don't want to go back there…"
"I'm sure you can get someone to collect your stuff for you. You're the Champion, after all."
"Mm…"
Silence.
"So… they didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?"
"Why I left the interview."
"All Hop said was that you left halfway through an interview after your match."
Gloria shifted slightly, her face turning further into Bede's shoulder. It muffled her voice, but he still heard her clearly as though she'd spoken into his ear.
"They asked me about the Darkest Day. I couldn't… It was like I was back there . So I ran and... I couldn't bring myself to go back." She sighed. "And then I felt guilty for leaving, and stupid and weak and…"
"You're not stupid, or weak, for running. If anything, leaving means you left them nothing to work with, rather than whatever reaction they wanted to get from you. Arceus knows everyone has something they don't want to be asked about during an interview. At least your instinct was to run."
"You... really think so?"
"I do. I know that if… if I were to be asked questions about Rose, I wouldn't be able to keep my composure for long."
"Mm…"
Gloria shivered slightly against him. He glanced at her and saw her hug her arms to her chest, rubbing her arms for warmth. He reached over and touched the bare skin of her arms.
"You're freezing!"
She breathed a faint laugh. "Just a bit. I took my jacket off for the match and left it with the rest of my stuff."
Bede rolled his eyes. "Come on, let's get you someplace warm."
He drew his arm from around her back and stood, before turning to face her and offering his hand. She looked up at him for a moment. The sparkle had finally returned to her eyes, her expression one of ease. She took his hand and he pulled her to her feet and into his arms. She fell against his chest with a gasp, her cheek pressed against the crook of his neck, as his arms wrapped around her back and held her close.
"B-Bede?!"
He rested his cheek against the top of her head so she couldn't look up at him and see the blazing red burning across his face. His hands dusted up and down her shoulders and back, smoothing firmly against her.
"This- this is to warm you up, that's all!" he said quickly, flinching at the crack in his voice. "I'm not going to be responsible for you freezing to death out here!"
She grabbed the sides of his shirt, winding her fingers into the fabric. Her hands trembled there for a moment before slowly sliding around his back to rest there. Bede dropped his hands from her back to her arms, slowly running his palms and fingers across her goosebumped skin. A quiet noise, caught in her throat, met his ears.
"You're… You're so warm…" she whispered faintly.
Bede squeezed his eyes shut, clenching his jaw at the tremor in her voice. Heat pulsed through his veins with every thundering beat of his heart.
"That's because you're so cold," he managed to reply.
Bede smoothed his hands further down her arms, letting his warmth bleed into her. He rubbed gently up and down, from her elbow to where the short sleeves of her shirt ended, and tried desperately not to think about what he was doing.
He continued his ministrations for a moment longer before asking, "is that better?"
"Y-Yes. I'm feeling a lot warmer now."
"Good."
He dropped his arms, taking a robotic step away from her and busied himself with his phone.
"I'll call you a Sky Taxi," he said, deliberation focusing on his phone and not the adorable flush on her cheeks or the way she chewed bashfully on her bottom lip. She wouldn't look at him either.
"Th-Thanks. Oh, your shopping!"
Gloria hurried over to the shopping bags, grabbing them off the floor.
"It's fine." Bede shrugged. He'd forgotten about them. "Nothing in there needs immediate refrigeration anyway, although the apples may have a bruise or two."
She gave him a thankful smile and handed him the bags. "That's good. It'd be awful if you'd bought ice cream and it'd all melted."
"I wouldn't have cared about that either."
That made her pause. She looked up at him, her eyes gazing right into his. Studying him, studying his expression, the meaning behind his words. A question lingered in her eyes.
She glanced away. "Can… Can you message Hop for me? Since my phone is still with my other stuff and all…"
Bede ignored the flutter of his heart, wondering what on earth she'd seen in his expression, if anything at all.
"Sure. What do you want me to say?"
"Oh, um… well, I was hoping he'd be able to grab my stuff or get someone else to. I can't exactly organise that without my phone."
"Okay." Bede typed the message quickly as the Sky Taxi landed nearby. "Let's go."
She looked at him. "You're coming too?"
"Who else is going to pay for it? Unless you have money stashed in your pockets, I assumed you didn't have any on you," he said pointedly and Gloria pursed her lips sheepishly. "And I'd rather not walk all the way to Ballonlea in the cold, so I'm hitching a ride."
"Thanks, Bede." Her expression softened into a gentle smile.
A coil of warmth buzzed on his cheeks. Her simple smile melted something in his chest. He blinked at her, unable to think, or breathe, for a moment under her spell.
He quickly looked away. "You're welcome."
It was worth it to see her smile again.

Act 2 - The Sister’s Decision
[Time: 1 Week From Present Time] [Location: Unknown Isle] [PoV: ???]
I take a big bite out of the giant Pecha Berry in my claws, its juices running down my chin as I lounge lazily on the branch of said fruit tree
So far today hasn’t really stood out to me very much, but then again it’s kinda like this everyday. The only time something interesting happens is when some of the Sisters come back after sneaking out into society - and most importantly, returning with all sorts of things they’ve managed to obtain.
Other than that? Pretty boring. The only thing that’s really different right now is the fact that Zenoclio has been sensing some weird stuff somewhere. She hasn’t come back yet after heading to speak with Xiomara, so I can only assume that it’s actually very important.
...Or Xio was in one of her moods when Zenoclio visited, which could also explain why she’s still not back.
I take another bite into the fruit, my gaze lazily scanning the surrounding peaceful forest.
A forest that is a little too peaceful...
...I want to fight something.
Finishing the berry, I sit up on the branch, a fanged grin forming on my mouth.
I should go find one of the Sisters and start something with them... Maybe Iniko? She definitely gets riled up really easily, so I’m sure I can get into a fight that way~
My long ears twitch as I hear the faint sound of rustling below me, the feat only possible due to the fact that Lopunnies have fairly good hearing. I feel my grin widen even further, since hearing something like that only means that someone is approaching~
Change of plans, looks like there’s someone conveniently right here.
I pull my feet onto the branch and crouch down, preparing to pounce the moment the person comes into view.
“Don’t even try it, Miyako.” The voice of the individual speaks up, their tone betraying who they are.
My grin quickly vanishes upon hearing them. “Of course it’s Seikani...” I mutter to myself.
Stepping out of the brush below is the Delphox herself, her head turned up to look at me as I continue to lay crouched on the branch above.
“Hey, if you’re just passing by, don’t blow my cover.” I say to her in an irritated tone, sitting back down onto the branch. “Just move along-” A mischievous smile works its way onto my face as a thought occurs to me. “Actually? If you can do me a solid, could you go find someone and tell them to come right here?” My claws flex, blue lightning dancing between my fingers as the result of my powers inherited from Zekrom.
Seikani lets out a snort. “Even if I wasn’t already looking for you, I would still say no.”
This makes me raise an eyebrow. “What, you were looking for me?”
Realization soon hits me, in which I immediately jump to my feet and scowl at her. “Hey! I’m not participating in any of your experiments again! ESPECIALLY not after last time!”
The Delphox-Xerneas hybrid smirks. “Relax, Miyako. I’m not here for you for one of my experiments this time. There’s a meeting that’s happening right now and your presence is requested.”
Relief floods me, but also does confusion. “Meeting? That’s new.” I leap down from the branch, landing onto the ground with an audible thud. “I assume this involves Zenoclio’s talk with Xiomara?”
Seikani’s smirk fades, replaced with a serious expression. “You would be correct. Come, they’re waiting for you.”
I cross my arms behind my head, letting out a huff. “Alright alright. Lead the way.” My eyes narrow at her. “But if you’re actually lying and trying to lure me into another one of your experiments, you have another thing coming.”
Her eyes twinkle, the way she’s looking at me with her X-shaped pupils actually makes me shudder. “I wouldn’t lie to you if I were to have you involved in my experiments, Miyako.” She says a little too sweetly. “Because if I were to need you, you wouldn’t have a choice~”
“R-Right.” I stutter nervously. “L-Lead the way.”
---
Apparently this so called meeting place wasn’t as far as I initially believed. Then again, this island isn’t THAT big, but it would still take a fairly long trek if it were to be on a beach that’s on the complete opposite of our initial location.
Seeing the collection of large willow trees ahead, it confirms the location in mind. Although there are several places where we hang out or conduct ‘meetings’, this place is definitely a somewhat more popular one - especially since the low-hanging vines from the willows give a more secluded feeling.
As Seikani and I brush the vines aside, I quickly see that there are four people already here once I step in.
Xiomara isn’t one of them, go figure. At the same time I’m not really surprised, since she almost never leaves the temple that’s at the center of the island.
From the looks of it? The ones who are here first are Zenoclio, Orabelle, Yinomi, and Iniko.
“Here so soon, Miyako? Did you actually want to come this time?.” Zenoclio sarcastically chuckles, said Primarina lounging on a large rock that’s located in the center of this willow-surrounded clearing.
“Up yours, Clio.” I shoot right back, immediately becoming irritated. “You guys dragged me all the way here for a meeting, so let’s get this shit started already. What’s the news and why does it concern me?”
Seikani immediately flicks my cheek with a finger, the action causing me to flinch and growl. “Quiet, Miyako. They’ll explain it to you.” She says to me with a click of her tongue before turning to the rest of the group. “Do you need me for anything else? If not, I will take my leave.”
Yinomi is the one to speak up, the Hatterene giving a bemused chuckle. “That is all, Seikani. We won’t hold you here any longer.”
Not needing to be told twice, the Delphox grins before sauntering away, disappearing past the willow vines.
“Alright...” Zenoclio starts, the gaze of her slitted pupils fixating on me. “Orabelle, Yinomi, and Iniko have already been mostly informed while we were waiting, so that leaves just you to explain things to.”
I shrug my shoulders as I approach them. “Not my fault that you bunch were hosting a meeting until just now,.” Stopping next to them all, I look up at Zenoclio dryly. “So, what’s the deal?”
She holds her gaze on me for a while before ultimately sighing. “I’ve spoken with Xiomara about what I’ve been sensing as of lately. Due to the possibility of something very dire happening, she used her power to help enhance and amplify my own...”
I raise an eyebrow. “And...?”
“And here I thought I was the impatient one.” Orabelle chuckles, said Gothitelle currently leaning against one of the various willows.
“Not now, Orabelle.” Yinomi hisses before I could form a retort, the sudden sharpness of the Hatterene’s tone causing Orabelle to immediately shut up - not without giving a dirty look that is.
“As I was saying...” Zenoclio continues with annoyance, pinching the bridge of her snout with a clawed hand. “With the help of Xiomara, I managed to get more information on what’s going on right now.” Her eyes narrow. “From what I’ve both felt and seen? There’s been numerous breaches into our reality.”
This makes me blink. “Breaches? As in portals?”
She nods her head. “Correct. However unlike the wormholes created between our world and Ultra-Space, these breaches are different. They lead to a far and  completely unknown reality instead of a parallel one.”
Now this interests me. “So... Are these just normal portals or did something come through them?”
Her eyes narrow. “Multiple things came through. From what I’ve felt, there are a total of two breaches, with a third one threatening to breach as well.” She sits up from the rock, straightening her form as her tone becomes more grave. “However even with Xiomara’s assistance, I’m unable to locate one of the active gates nor the one that’s threatening to open. However due to oldest breach being somewhat closer to us in proximity, I’ve managed to at least get a vague notion on that one’s location.”
“Alright, so...interesting stuff...kinda.” I respond before letting out a loud yawn. “Why am I being informed about this?”
“Simple,  we’re having you, Yinomi, and Iniko investigate it.” The Primarina responds.
“Oh really? Coo-” I start to answer before pausing. “W-Wait, you want ME to investigate??”
Orabelle speaks up this time. “You got that right, Miko~” The Gothitelle-Hoopa hybrid snickers. One of the golden hoops on her form floats off before spinning in the air, the few rays of sunlight piercing through the canopy bounces off its golden metallic surface.
“W-Why?!” I start, unable to contain my surprise. “I don’t know anything about portals! Why send me?” I turn to Iniko and Yinomi, my expression becoming accusatory. “And why are THEY going?!”
Iniko is the one to speak up now, said Medicham-Tapu Fini hybrid having been silent for the most of the discussion. “We were the initial choices, Miyako.” She growls, her normally calm demeanor replaced with anger in a flash. “I have plenty of experience when it comes to the outside world, and Yinomi is very good at sensing emotions, fallacies, and lies.”
“Oh yeah, Miss ‘You Can Only Tell The Truth Around Me ‘Cus I’m A Walking Lie Detector’.” I mutter, glaring at the Hatterene in question.
Said Hatterene-Reshiram hybrid scowls at me. “I am no less happy to accompany you than you are.” She growls in response. The long hair-like limb behind her head flexes and curves to face me, the end of it opening to reveal a toothy maw.
“Settle down!” Zenoclio shouts, turning our attention back to her.
“Okay, okay, fine!” I grumble, crossing my arms. “So you have the reason for Yinomi and Iniko, but why me? My power is mostly lightning with the occasional good eye for ideals, what’s that meant to contribute?”
“Extra security.” Zenoclio responds swiftly, making me blink again. “Although both Yinomi and Iniko are more than capable to deal with the outside world, having you along with them would guarantee that nothing can cause you any problems.” The next sentence she mutters more quietly. “...Currently Renaetta and Kazashi are too preoccupied, unlike you.”
Pretending to not hear the last bit, I puff my chest a little bit before grinning. “In that case? I’m fine with that~” I pause, realizing something. “But...why aren’t you going?” I then point at Orabelle. “And why isn’t she?”
The Primarina sighs. “If I were to leave this island, I won’t be able to have Xiomara’s assistance in locating these breaches. Keep in mind that our power also diminishes when we leave the proximity of this place.” Her gaze turns to Orabelle. “As for her, she will be transporting you both there as well as keeping you all informed when I find any important info.”
“Yup, I’m just a glorified taxi and messenger.” Said Gothitelle yawns before grabbing the hoop that’s floating beside her, donning it again. “Definitely would’ve been more fun if I were to actually explore for a change.”
“We all know that you will only cause trouble.” Zenoclio responds dryly before narrowing her eyes. “We still remember what happened last time you left to ‘explore’, and you’re lucky that we haven’t informed Xio that you’re still stealing random objects from the outside world with the use of your rings.”
This makes me smirk. Zenoclio definitely has a point, and it’s hard to NOT notice the increasing number of random trinkets that’s in Orabelle’s possession. She’d be absolutely fucked if Xiomara were to actually leave the temple for once and see the mountain of junk.
I still feel bad for the owner of that gaming device, it was apparently well-loved after Orabelle told me how many hours were played on it.
“Hey! that’s a lie!” Orabelle shouts indignantly, standing up angrily. “Everything I have was given to me by Quintoria during her times outside! Since she had them, they’re legitimately bought!”
The air suddenly grows tense. I feel my gaze slowly turn to Yinomi - said Hatterene’s own blue eyes are shining like tiny stars.
Looks like I’m not the only one to be nervous, seeing everyone else’s current reaction.
“Orabelle.” She says in a sweet tone, yet the sheer power and danger coming from her gives her voice a way more terrifying feeling. “You shouldn’t lie, ESPECIALLY when I’m here~”
Immediately the Gothitelle-Hoopa hybrid starts backpedaling, her face sweating bullets. “I-I mean, I mayyybe took a few things, but-”
Yinomi takes a step towards Orabelle, purple fire leaking out of the maw at the end of her hair. “Cease with the lying.” She growls, her smile growing wider and her eyes narrowing further. “And you’re stealing? Out of all the things to do, stealing is an extremely dishonest action to make.”
“UHHH-” Orabelle starts rapidly slinking away, her expression becoming one of panic. “Heh heh, uhh- YEAH I’M GONNA GO BYE!” In an instant she pulls out one of her golden rings, causes said ring to grow in size, dive through the ring, and then have the ring shrink before ultimately vanishing.
Iniko quickly takes a step away from Yinomi before nervously looking at Zenoclio. “I...don’t think we decided on the time. W-When are we leaving?”
To her credit, Zenoclio actually manages to keep a mostly straight face, however even I can tell that she’s definitely a little freaked out due to Yinomi doing Yinomi things. “Initially, I would’ve said that you will leave tomorrow...” Her gaze drifts to the spot where Orabelle used to be. “But after this? Probably a week, assuming that we’re lucky enough to find Orabelle within that time.”
“She knows better than to lie around the Sister of Reshiram.” Yinomi huffs, crossing her arms.
“You should still show some restraint at least, Yino.” Iniko quietly whispers.
The Hatterene lets out a sharp laugh. “Restraint? HA! All of you should know that those who have the audacity to lie near me will receive the appropriate reaction~”
“Anyways...” Zenoclio speaks up, rubbing her cheek with a hand. Her attention turns to me. “Anything else that you have to add? Any more objections...?”
I open my mouth, but no words come out.
Wait...
I’m going outside. Outside as in the outside world. Outside world as in OUTSIDE this island.
Wait wait wait...
I’ve...actually really been wanting to go out for a long time now. I’ve always been envious when Quintoria and Iniko could slip out without Xiomara’s notice.
So since I really do want to go out...
...why the FUCK am I even objecting and questioning this decision?? This is the damn opportunity of a lifetime!
“Nope!” I respond quickly after a short pause, giving a grin that’s a little too wide. “No more objections! Can’t wait to leave!”
My energetic outburst silences the Primarina, who then looks at Yinomi for confirmation. Said Hatterene-Reshiram hybrid merely shrugs in response, looking just as confused as her.
“Well...glad to hear that...” Zenoclio eventually sighs. “You leave as soon as we find Orobelle.” Her eyes harden into a gaze as she looks at Yinomi. “You will be the one primarily searching for her.”
Yinomi merely huffs in response.

Pokémon Sword & Shield Fanfic: Bede’s First Endorsement
Based on the idea of Bede having never endorsed a trainer as a gym leader because he’s kind of a prick, lmao. FFN mirror and AO3 mirror.
-----------
Some Nights
Ballonlea's forests were dark and light filtered through in strange ways due to the luminous mushrooms dappling the groves. It made for the perfect hideaway for a tired or irritated gym leader. Bede fit both of those descriptions more often than some of Galar's other leaders and as such, it was quite common to find him stowing away deep into the eldritch forest. He was wearing his favorite coat that day, seeing as he was off duty for the time being, and found comfort in its hold as he sat beneath the glowing cap of a blue mushroom.
With so much solitude just outside the city, it seemed impossible anyone would be able to stumble across him. Yet, the crunching of leaves and sticks caught his attention, and he whipped his head to see a little girl tumble out from between two bushes. She wore a worn-out white and pink dress with a purple ribbon around its waist; her hair fell just past her shoulders, light brown and straight, but tangled due to the thick undergrowth. Faded pink slippers clung to her feet.
Bede blinked and sighed. His peace fractured by a wandering idiot child. That sounded about right. "Just what do you think you're doing out here?" Bede asked.
"Looking for you!" she exclaimed. She stood tall and brushed her dress off, plucking a stick out from where it jabbed her in the leg. Her brown eyes were bright and wide. "Miss Meredith was goin' to pass straight through Ballonlea, but I couldn't let her do that! I needed to see you!"
"Meredith…?" Bede echoed quietly. Something felt familiar about that name. "Is that your mother?" he asked.
"Oh, no," the little girl answered swiftly. "My name's Taylor! Miss Meredith takes care of us but she's not my mom." She laughed. "She said you wouldn't even think of giving us a starter or endorsement, but she wouldn't even try! So I came to try!"
Bede froze in place as the details started fitting together. He became acutely aware of why Meredith sounded familiar. She had been one of the caretakers at Suellen's Nursery, at Circhester's southern border. He regarded the little girl with a new, wide-eyed expression that so few had seen on him. "L-little girl… Taylor. Are you traveling with Suellen Nursery?"
"I think that's its name, yeah," she answered. She bounced a little. "I know it's a lot to ask and everyone says you usually don't, but I'd love a Fairy-type Pokemon to be my starter!"
He reeled for a moment. She seemed excitable and happy, much unlike how he remembered spending his days at Suellen's. Perhaps she was lucky enough to have not known her real parents at all, and still young enough to not mind that detail. Quite different from him, who had been left to Suellen's at seven with just his mother's jacket. He clutched a part of the sleeve that was touching the palm of his hand. He took a deep, shaky breath and nodded. "Okay… okay. You're right. I normally don't. And," he paused and made a beckoning motion with his finger, "you must keep in mind that if you do go out on your gym challenge, it's a rough world out there. You'll have to face me eventually and, admittedly… some that are quite better than me. But the gym challenge will get you out of that place, and let you find something new."
She gave an ear-to-ear grin and bounced excitedly. "Does this mean—"
"Shh," he shushed her, "keep this between you and me, understand?"
She put both hands over her mouth and nodded eagerly.
"Good," he said. He reached into his pockets to retrieve his Rotom Phone. He looked through his Pokemon Storage Boxes until he located a suitable starter. A young male Ralts. It would certainly be a lot friendlier and less disruptive than his starter had been. As much as he loved Hatterene and would not replace her for the world, he would be the first to advise against owning one. He tucked the phone back into his pocket and retrieved a Pokeball from his belt. He held it out to the little girl, but didn't let her take it just yet.
"This is a Ralts," he explained, "they're quite friendly and if you train it right, it'll become a Kirlia. After that, if you train it properly some more, it may become a Gardevoir. You can also give Kirlia a Dawn Stone to have it become a Gallade instead. Of course, if you're goin' for Fairy… you'll want Gardevoir." He winked at her and clasped the Pokeball in her hand.
He was trembling somewhat; he had never felt such a rush of desire to just… do something before. He wanted to do everything in his power to set this girl right, to ensure her challenge went properly and smoothly, to ensure she got out of that godforsaken orphanage, to—
"M-Mr. Bede?" she asked when he continued to hold on. He quickly let go and apologized.
"You need something else, of course," Bede said. He dug in his pockets for a moment until he found a piece of paper and a pen. The pen was purple, but that was still a pen. "I will admit, since I don't really write recommendations, I don't have any preplanned on me. You'll need to get an envelope and tuck this in it before you can give it to any League Staff. What's your last name?"
"Hill!" she answered. "Taylor Hill."
On the note, he wrote:
To whom it may concern, I, Gym Leader Bede of Ballonlea, endorse Taylor Hill for the Galar Major League Gym Challenge. I have verified she has a starting Pokemon, in this case, a Ralts, and has the means necessary to engage in this season.
Signed, Gym Leader Bede.
Bede
He neatly folded the crinkled paper and handed it to her. "Keep that somewhere very safe until you can get it to League Staff. Now, let's get you back to the group, alright?" he said. "But remember. Our secret. You'll say you just caught the Ralts, and that Nessa or someone endorsed you, okay? Ralts is a pretty weak Pokemon right now, wouldn't be hard to say you caught it by just lobbing a ball at it…"
"Our secret!" Taylor giggled. "No worries, Mr. Bede!"
He led her out of the brush, picking her up to keep her dress from dragging on thorns and sticks. Once back in the city, he set her down and she bolted over to a frazzled group standing about the center of the city's walkways. A harried old woman scolded Taylor once she returned, demanding to know what she thought she was doing. Bede took a deep breath to compose himself and placed his hands on his hips as he approached.
"I believe you lost one along the way," Bede commented as he drew close.
Meredith, her skin papery and hair white and frizzy, apologized profusely. "I am so sorry Gym Leader Bede," she said, "I don't know—"
"Calm down," Bede yawned. "I've no interest in how or why. Seems kid wanted a Pokemon. She had found a Pokeball on the ground and lobbed it at a poor Ralts until she caught it."
"Is that true?" Meredith asked, turning to Taylor. Taylor triumphantly held up the Pokeball.
"Yes! I love it!" she yelled.
"Ralts isn't so bad," Meredith muttered under her breath. She looked up at Bede. "Thank you for bringing her back to the group, Gym Leader Bede. We'll be on our way now."
The rest of the kids clamored around Taylor, demanding to see her new Pokemon. Meredith called for them to compose themselves so they could continue their trip. A Corviknight Cabbie offered his assistance, saying he'd call a friend to accommodate all of them. Meredith graciously accepted. Bede began to turn away when he saw Taylor wave at him excitedly from the crowd. He couldn't help but give a soft smile, then turn on a heel to head back to the gym. Instead of seeing the roadway behind him, however, he was met with Opal's terrifyingly long nose.
"Arceus—Opal!" he snapped. "Why must you sneak up on me like that?"
"You did something good," Opal teased. She turned away from him to walk back to the gym.
"I did nothing," he spat back after her. "I was just out in the woods for a break, and now I'm heading back to the gym."
"I didn't say you didn't," Opal answered simply. "Just that you did something good."
Bede relaxed a little and shook his head. 'Suppose I did, he thought.

Physical Features Meme
So let’s start with the hair itself.
Tumblr media
Though she’s not really one to talk positively about herself, her hair is what she perceives to be her best feature and certainly the one she’s most proud of. It’s long, very long; reaching down to her ankles when it isn’t tied up or braided and down is how she most often wears it.
It’s thick, soft, smooth and shiny; all around dream hair to be honest. She does take good care of it, but she’s one of those detestable people who’s blessed with naturally perfect hair. She tries to wash it around once a week, one because she’s found that to be a good balance for health and two because washing it is quite the ordeal. So long and thick is it that it requires her to go through an entire bottle of shampoo and conditioner each time.
Colour! She’s the vapour wave gal. Her hair is a mix of two very pastel toned colours, turquoise and pink at the tips, fading between the two. It’s mostly the former but each hair starts off pink when it grows before fading to turquoise and maintaining that colour for the rest of its growth. This is why here eyebrows are pink! If her hair was cut short it would appear entirely pink too.
Following that, it does grow rather fast too, but only until it reaches the length its at now. She’s not really sure if can grow much longer because she usually trims the tips to prevent split ends and other breaks. If you know Gwinifer and spend any amount of time with her then yes; you absolutely are going to be finding her stray hairs all over the place.
The claaaaaaaw
Tumblr media
So, this strange appendage grows out the back of her head, at a downward angle rather than out at 90 degrees. The tendril itself is very thin, no more than a couple of centimetres in diameter and appears far to sleight to support the claw at the end which would be around her thighs if it was just hanging down. Despite how frail it looks its actually stronger than either of her actual arms and though the claw only has three ‘fingers’ it is otherwise just as dexterous and capable as her other hands.
She could certainly use it to thrash a human within an inch of their life if she was so inclined, but the truth is she’s fairly embarrassed by its appearance. While a perfectly normal thing for her species, aside from her mother she’s the only Hatterene she’s known and assumes people will see it as something weird or strange. To this end she keeps it hidden in her hair almost all of the time. It’s why she doesn’t opt for many differing hair styles either, though occasionally she will braid her hair around the tendril, so the claw itself gives the appearance of some sort of hair ornament or accessory.
Regardless of how she feels about it, the limb has a way of... Acting out. Not necessarily on its own though far more subconsciously than her other arms. If she’s conflicted about putting a hand on the shoulder of a friend who’s hurting, the claw is more likely to do it without a second thought. It does as its told, but it also does a little more, sometimes.

Inari: I suppose I probably should’ve thought about the “getting down” part of flying. Gosh, it’s been too long since I had to teach anyone. Well over a decade. Maybe two?
Fade: I’m… gonna stay on the ground for a while. I miss being a Hatterene.
Inari: I cannot blame you. Despite how well I seem to be handling… I’d much prefer my old Mew form.
Fade: Oh no. I’m feeling tingly. Is that a normal Mew thing?
Inari: Tingly? No, I—

Fade: Wha? Huh??
Inari: I’m being held?
Fade: Fur! My fur!

Gloria had heard once that many trainers could become accustomed to the effects of poison-type pokemon, if they spent enough time with the creatures. Most pokemon had mild reactions, themselves, which was why poison types were allowed in battles to begin with. But humans weren’t anything like pokemon, and it was in that moment that the young champion understood this the most.
Eternatus’s poison sank into her skin like a thousand burning knives, seeping into her clothes and eating away at everything it touched. Screams of pain were choked as the acidic substance threatened to paralyze her, making her tremble. But even so, she held tightly, dreading even a bit of the poison landing on Bede.
The Tangle itself expressed its rage at her, at this single trainer so bold as to openly defy it. The thought of this made Gloria grin weakly, softly promising more to come if the dreaded spirits of this wood dared cross her again. Eternatus seemed to glow more fiercely with their trainer’s fiery spirit, letting out a cry into the night that finally shook Bede back into reality.
The next few moments were a blur, as Gloria found herself fading in and out of consciousness, with Hatterene’s Healing Pulse offering just enough reprieve for the trainer to avoid falling completely under. A blessing in itself, as it kept Gloria from tumbling off of Zamazenta’s back alongside Bede, though Sherbet had to step in to keep her trainer from following of her own volition, voicing a weak, “Bede....”
In the next blink, however, she was leaning against Bede’s back, arms wrapped around him and fingers curling into the fabric of his clothes with a vice-like grip that was unusual for the amount of strength she had left in her. Even with this small realization, however, Gloria refused to release her hold on the gym leader, a part of her afraid that if she did, the Tangle would surely swallow him up once more.
The last thing she heard before finally giving in to the poison’s effects, was the loud, bone-chilling cry of Eternatus, who--despite freedom for the first time in six years--followed their trainer dutifully from the sky, the great beast seeming to dare the Tangle to challenge the dragon’s might against the burning woodland...

It’s Quiet Tonight
This deep in The Tangle it is always quiet. The only sounds to reach Bede’s ears are the soft trill of the Morelull lighting his way and the distant trickling of an unseen stream. The occasional drip of water down the intricate weave of roots, branches, and leaves that makes up the now familiar canopy overhead. Even his feet no longer make noise as he wanders aimlessly through his new home. In this serenely calm silence, Bede’s mind becomes restless. Memories come and go. Some come easily. Meeting Rose. Raising his Hatterene. His endorsement. The Gym Challenge. Some do not come as easily, but those are best left to fade. It’s the ones that don’t come at all that consume his thoughts as he walks.    Bede stops to stare up at the single enormous tree adorning the clearing his cabin sits in. No matter how far he wanders, this is where he returns. This cabin. This same tree. The circle of softly glowing mushrooms casting eerie, ever changing shadows. Bede idly runs his hand up his tree, his fingers tracing every crack in the moss covered bark. This is his home. He knows every inch of it. The only question that gnaws at the back of his mind is why? Why here?    Lost in his struggle to find answers, the boy allows his body to move as it pleases, taking him from the tree, around the edge of his clearing and to the small cabin, nearly hidden beneath the overgrown vines and grass. It is here in the deeply shadowed walls of his cabin he feels the most comfortable, and at the same time, the most unsettled. The ancient wood creaks beneath him, despite his feet being held midair well above it. The familiar smell of dampness and rot puts him at ease, but the subtle undertones of iron as he nears the single red tinted corner just inside the door agitate that horror coiled deep in his belly. His eyes follow the smudged stains to a loose group of floorboards. For just a moment, he reaches out to lift one. No. He can’t. Not yet. It’s best that part remain there. Maybe one day he may be able to look again. Maybe that is where his memory hides, but not tonight. It’s far too quiet tonight.

* | “ woah- ”
soleana forces big cat to a stop as they come across something in the ground. her eyes narrow, pupils dilating with interest as she slid off the large pokemon’s back.
her feet hit the ground and she knelt down, but still kept her knees off the ground.
is that... blood?
it isn’t a normal color for blood... it’s black, mixed with something blue, and sparkling. only a few droplets were still on the surface, most of it having sunk into the dry dirt, fading into it.
what could this...
...
she pulls her pokedex out of her pocket, sliding it open and letting the scanner roll over the sight before her. as if it’ll do something... she wants to trust that it will.
eventually, something does happen. the pokedex lights up, showing the dex entry for hatterene, now detailing biological information on the pokemon, including a close up image of its blood and type. blue and sparkling...
why is there hatterene blood here..? and is that black substance actually blood?

Surrender to a Feeling [Bede x Gloria]
Tumblr media
Gloria just wants to get her feelings across--she just does it in the most haphazard way ever.
Chapter 1/ 2
[Read on AO3]
To the region of Galar, Gloria was a gentle breeze. Soft smiles. Quiet responses. The epitome of tranquility. In front of Bede, however, she knew she was anything but. Giggles turned skittish. Cheeks burned up. Smiles turned hopeful.
One could say feelings of love were intrusive. Distracting. An opening for teases and sly looks--the very ones that followed her figure as walks beside him. But it was a very badly kept secret that Gloria had more than friendly feelings for the Gym Leader.
She blames herself--and maybe how loudly Hop would tease her about her lovesick gazes at him. And everyone was quick to point out how there was always a notable eagerness that appeared in her when Bede would be brought up. How she seemed at peace doing nothing with him, how she jumped at any opportunity to support his battles or stages, and how a rush of rose would touch her face when he would simply call her name out.
And sure, Bede didn’t seem to treat anyone nearly as nice as he was to her.
And sure, everyone loved to point out that Bede, even though he was her truest rival, never seemed to back away from supporting her endeavors--even those that ended in his defeat.
Yet being a friend and a rival did little to convince Gloria that he held any romantic inclinations towards her. He gave into her hugs, just like anyone would. He accepted her tea outings, for the sake of some quiet. Of course. And if anything he tolerated her. Or at least that’s what Gloria told herself, and Marnie, this admittance getting the other girl to let out an exasperated sigh.
“Don’t give me that look, Marnie--Bede in love...shouldn’t he seem as enamored as he does on stage with his co-stars?”
“‘e’s actin, but I swear ‘e likes you,” yet as Gloria pouts at her--silently questioning how she would know that, Marnie just shakes her head.
“ ‘Ave you tried just walkin’ up and laying one on ‘im?”
Gloria rolls her eyes, lips protruding.
“As if that would work.”
But now she was here, persuaded (forced) to march over to Ballonlea with clear intentions. To lay it all out, to confess what’s been in her heart for years-- after a battle she had demanded just to excuse her haphazard arrival.
“Being nervous is beneath you,” he pointed out at the start, and Gloria’s hopeful heart seeked concern hidden beneath his sharp words.
But her stare turns focused as she unlatches her first pokeball.
“It’s not about this battle,” a pause, “trust me.”
--
It wasn’t to anyone’s surprise that Bede lost. The adrenaline of the battle seeming to fade into something more anxious ridden about what was to come next. And she couldn’t help but to stare ahead, watching as he whispers something softly to his Hatterene’s pokeball, noting how he’s quick to cross his arms soon after, to glare at her with the remnants of a faint smile on his lips.
Loss or not, a good battle is indeed a good battle.
But the end of it meant it was the start of a whole new one and the expression on his face didn’t make things easier for her at all. Her hands grip tightly around the pokeball as she retracts Inteleon. Motions feeling sluggish and hesitant--trying to not psych herself out.
But there’s a familiar scoff heard all too closely.
“Are you even all here, Champion ?”
She can hear the bite in his voice, his disdain for losing to someone so incredibly distracted. Her eyes flickering to see his scowl, the soft pink of his lips, his clear skin, the vibrancy in the purple of his eyes glaring daggers at her.
“‘Ave you tried just walkin’ up and laying one on ‘im?”
“Oi, earth to Gloria,” he snaps in front of her face. Her eyes blinking rapidly, as Marnie’s words fade and reality rushes back in. She was in Ballonlea, in the middle of the pitch, with Bede now dangerously close.
Gloria can hear the annoyance in his tone, that she could still beat him with her mind only have on the battle. She could feel her mouth wanting to form the words “I’m sorry,” but she’s rendered speechless. Heart clamoring, hands clammy, her brain getting muddled when she hears the words “For Galar’s” and “Queen” uttered by him. An affectionate nickname bestowed on her only sounding better off of him even as he teases and near insults her as he finishes off with “you sure have your head in the clo---”
Gloria could easily say that in that moment she had no impulse control. His jersey desperately clenched underneath her fingertips as she pulls him down to meet her, soft curls brushing against her forehead, earthy notes of his cologne overwhelming her. His words replaced with a gasp swallowed by the urgency of her lips crashing against his. It wasn’t anything smooth; lips mashed against each at an awkward angle.
But she’s kissing Bede.
Kinda.
And that’s when she parts clumsily fast. The silence between them only interrupted by the the faint sound of his breath dancing on her lips. He hadn’t moved his face; stunned and all too close, as she separates and lowers from her tiptoes to take in his widened eyes, his flushed cheeks, his parted lips stained pink by her lipstick. And that's when she notices, his mouth moving to form her name--to probably question her, but Gloria is quick on her feet, letting go of his crinkled shirt with a cheeky smile and blistered cheeks.
“Bye Bede,” squeaked loudly, before he could say anything, as she nearly sprints off the field with her eyes glued to the floor. Fingers lifting to her lips gingerly, feeling them tingle from his warmth, the faint taste of oolong remnant, and her heart continuing to beat loudly in her ears as she disregards the coos, snickers and Bede’s face most of all.
She misses Opal’s entrance, Bede’s brow furrowing as he lifts his collar, and the barked “don’t, say anything, Ms. Opal,” before running off after her.
