Watching Libido because it’s early Giallo and the film debut of Giancarlo Giannini (who’s listed as “John Carl John” in the opening credits of the cut I’m watching.)
(Look at his big eyes, two times too big for his little baby face.)
(I apologize for infantilizing you, Giancarlo Giannini.)
(But you were objectively adorable.)

Celluloid Dreams is thrilled to announce the release of the 1972 cult classic “The Case of the Bloody Orchid,” directed by Italian maestro Giuliano Carnimeo. Originally titled “Perchè Quelle Strane Gocce Di Sangue Sul Corpo Di Jennifer?,” this film marks Carnimeo's unique foray into the giallo genre and has since become a beloved favorite among genre aficionados. Set for release on April 9, 2024, this cinematic gem will be available in a 2-disc combo pack, featuring both Blu-ray and 4K UHD versions, priced at $45.95. Written by giallo icon Ernesto Gastaldi, known for films like "The Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh," "All the Colors of the Dark," and "Death Walks on High Heels," "The Case of the Bloody Orchid" presents a sexually-charged narrative, now available in 4K UHD for the first time. This new transfer, sourced from the original camera negative, has been meticulously color-graded and restored, ensuring that every exquisite detail of the movie's stunning cinematography is showcased. The film revolves around the gruesome murders of two young women, sending waves of fear through a high-rise apartment building. Photo models Jennifer and Marylin seize the chance to move into one of the vacated flats, but soon find themselves engulfed in the aura of terror, with Jennifer feeling like prey to the gloved killer. Paranoia and suspense intensify as Jennifer suspects those around her, while striving to outsmart the killer. Featuring Edwige Fenech, giallo's renowned scream queen, and George Hilton in their third collaboration, "The Case of the Bloody Orchid" is celebrated for its blend of beautiful cinematography and brutal violence. The film is a visual feast, described as "a luxuriant banquet of sumptuous visuals, sinister chills, and otherworldly beauty" by Deadshed. This special release includes a range of bonus features: Reversible cover with the original Italian and English movie titles New commentary track by film critic Guido Henkel Interview featurettes with Ernesto Gastaldi, Giuliano Carnimeo, and George Hilton An outtake reel, image gallery, and newly transferred trailers in 4K 2023 4K ultra-high definition Master from the original negative Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 Run Time: 94 minutes Subtitles: Newly translated English and English SDH Audio Specs: Italian - DTS HD Mono, English - DTS HD Mono For more details and to immerse yourself in the world of classic giallo, visit Celluloid Dreams at their website. This release is not just a film; it's an experience for cinema lovers and giallo enthusiasts alike.

Così dolce... così perversa (So Sweet... So Perverse, 1969)
"The body was burned beyond recognition. A charred, deformed shape. Oh, Nicole... It was terrifying."
"Stop thinking about it now. What's really important is that you got what you wanted: he is dead and you are rich."
#Così dolce... così perversa#So Sweet... So Perverse#italian cinema#Giallo#1969#umberto lenzi#ernesto gastaldi#Riz Ortolani#carroll baker#Jean Louis Trintignant#erika blanc#horst frank#Helga liné#Giovanni di benedetto#Ermelinda de felice#Irio fantini#Dario michaelis#Beryl cunningham#Renato pinciroli#Leave it to Umberto Lenzi to get it into his head to make an Italianised giallo inspired by Clouzot's Les Diaboliques starring Carroll#Baker; in fact‚ the son of a gun did it twice. This is the first‚ the second being Paranoia (or A Quiet Place to Kill‚ there's a post for#It floating around in my giallo tag). This first film is certainly the better I think‚ and whilst it has a lot going for it (a typically#Brilliant performance of privileged disinterest from Trintignant‚ the wonderful Erika Blanc‚ a groovy title song‚ more blatant references#To lesbianism than the OG Diaboliques and a very snappy third act) I'd be lying if I said it didn't flag a little in the middle. Gastaldi's#Script is as punchy as ever tho‚ and the 88 films release has the added bonus of an interview with the writer in which he impishly reveals#His personal rules for writing gialli‚ bemoans Lenzi's difficult nature‚ and claims to have never written a film with flashback scenes#This film contains‚ by the by‚ several flashback scenes. God love him‚ I can't blame him‚ and besides the man is mid 80s (but looks great!)#Actually speaking of alive‚ this might be an odd thing to pick up on but it's so rare in the films I watch from this era: unusually‚ 3 of#The 4 principle cast members are still with us (Trintignant‚ Baker and Blanc). It's just nice‚ yknow? Anyway. This is probably a superior#Example of the early (ie. Pre 1970‚ ie. Pre Argento) giallo‚ but I do wish it had just been a little tighter around the middle
