which is actually hilarious because I have been in the fandom since day one, chapter 1 of the manga dropping in english, and i remember when the majority of people fucking hated eren. like it was mikasa or levi supremacy and people just did not like him. it was only after the switch of him becoming an actual murderous fascist that he skyrocketed into being the favorite character - i was absolutely the reverse. i loved him back then actually.

and i want to be clear, i don’t dislike eren for being violent or toxic. my favorite scene of the show is still him killing mikasa’s kidnappers as a kid.

my problem is that the show and fandom never punishes him for becoming an actual child killing, gaslighting, genocidal fascist, and always frames him as the hero and somebody to be marveled at still even until the very very last chapter. the author having… let’s call them complicated views on japanese imperialism, didn’t help either.

this guy is fine. this guy disgusts me.

honestly levi, jean (who i didn’t like from start, not because he’s bad, he’s just boring), pieck (best girl) and hange were the only people to make it through that show without leaving a bad taste in my mouth with the way their characters went.
