*Alexa, play Jump Then Fall and I Knew You Were Trouble by Taylor Swift*

This is more of a rave review for a story that I literally just finished hours ago and I could not get it out of my brain and it might take me weeks to recover from the insane story I just read.

The fic is an AU with the title 'I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In" and it was written by the lovely writer @doeyedgirlyevil (send this writer some love over on Ao3 or on Twitter/X). This is an AU where Alex is Henry's equerry.

Let me now rave about this gem of a story....

OH MY HEAVENS, is it possible to rate a fic infinity stars out of 5 because if it possible, I would rate this fic like that. Like everything about it was utter perfection. This is one of the best RWRB AUs that I have ever read. I swooned, I cried, I gasped, I laughed, I got frustrated, you basically made me feel every emotion possible.

I wanna say that by my standards (which are not very high to begin with), you can already publish like an actual book because the way you wrote this fic is just amazing and the storyline is top-notch! I adore your writing so much!

The storyline, OH MY GOSH, it was just amazing. If this were an actual book, I would buy it. I love the storyline so much. Reminded me a lot of one of my favorite books "Twisted Games" by Ana Huang. It's a romance story between a princess and her bodyguard and this fic reminded me of that but will an Alex and Henry spin to it which is lovely all the same.

Equerry Alex was emanating so much alpha male energy and I normally do not like alpha male characters but in this universe, dang, I was living for it. I'M ON MY KNEES FOR EQUERRY ALEX! Like reading Alex's dialogue with Taylor's voice in my mind and him sounding commanding and possessive just made me transcend into another world. Like I'M DOWN BAD!!

Another thing, the teasing, the pining, the smut, PERFECTION!! I love everything about the way the teasing and the smut scenes were written. I was screaming, crying, kicking my feet every time Alex would tease Henry when they make out.

For me, you are in the same level as Sarah J. Maas (ACOTAR series) and Ana Huang (Twisted Series) when it comes to smut because the words in the spicy scenes in your story, I have only read them in the ACOTAR and Twisted series. The dialogues like "Make that noise again, sweetheart?" or "How are you going to kill me, beautiful? Looks to me you're the one dying for it." had my insides turning and butterflies fluttering.

To add, the pet names!! I'm so down for the pet names. Every "Baby", "Princess", "Sweetheart", "Love" made me tingle inside. Like I was swooning so hard.

Also, you may have unlocked a new fetish (is that what it's called, I don't know) from me because every time Alex nips on Henry's ear or kisses his neck, I have a visceral reaction as if a vampire was biting me in the neck and I'm loving it. Never in my life have I experienced having such a reaction so this is new to me.

I also loved how you incorporate some lines from the original book to your story. I jumped and smiled every time I saw a line from the book in your story.

Clearly, I had an amazing time reading your fic and I might go back to it and download it in order to highlight and annotate some of my favorite quotes to revisit in the future because how can I not revisit such amazing dialogue and lines and scenes.

I could rave about you and your writing all day long if I can. I just wanna say a big thank you for writing this amazing story. I'm willing to read any of your upcoming RWRB related works.

Let Loose Your Glow by @athousandrooms I’ve been following along with this fic during its WIP stage and it was completed recently! So of course I had to binge the whole thing and it was so worth the wait. It’s a fake dating fic that is SO soft!! Alex & Henry are so sweet in this fic and the slow burn is so !!! ahh no words but honestly this is one of those fics you can reread again and again and still feel all the feels over and over. Such a beautifully written fic!!

All the Old Showstoppers by @cha-melodius I’ve never watched any of the “Bake Off” shows (so I think any references went right over my head) BUT I enjoyed this fic so much regardless of my lack of “Bake Off” viewing. I loved reading about Henry and Alex’s journey as contestants on the show, but what was even more delightful was the growing feelings between them!! Also the ✨seductive spoon licking✨

i wake with your memory over me (that's a real fucking legacy) by @coffeecatsme Alex is Henry’s ski instructor in this fic - and from the get go I loved their interactions with each other! I also really loved the brother-sister dynamic between Henry and Bea in this!! 

YourMusicSucksAndYouLookLikeADickhead by @cloudywilmon Alex & Henry as neighbours is always such a fun time and this fic is no exception. It’s a super funny fic, and I especially love how Nora is written in this as well!

Count The Stars And Constellations by @everwitch-magiks Ohh my gosh, I loved this fic so much that I reread it about 3 times last month. I went through a rollercoaster of emotions reading this fic (excitement? frustration? Is heart-eyes an emotion? Cause that’s the only way to describe how I felt at the ending). Seriously read this beautiful fic 🥺

a rich and complex tapestry by @everwitch-magiks I feel like I could just repeat the review I wrote for everwitch’s other fic and it would still all apply for this one too. I was yet again going completely heart-eyed at the ending of this fic. I have no words to describe how much I loved this one?!

all's well that ends well to end up with you by @evanbuvkley This is such a sweet fic!! Alex accidentally kisses Henry and I love how things just spiral from there!!! Just go read it, you’ll love it I promise. 

Paint Stain Smiles by schmulte I loved the way Alex & Henry’s friendship develops in this fic (and of course the way the romance happens!!). The nude modelling is a lovely bonus. 

i just think about you all the time by @livinginrhythm Omg I just … loved everything about this fic? Alex is Catherine’s equerry which made me so intrigued at how things were going to turn out and the ending definitely had me screaming from the feels!

for you alone by fel24601 Ok I LOVE this fic. I love how Henry and Alex’s relationship develops, I love how fluffy this fic is, I loved the smut, just everything about this fic is so lovely. It hasn’t been updated in a year BUT even in its unfinished state I found it very satisfying as it is. Even if it never gets finished I would reread it over and over!! Such a beautifully written fic - go give it some love. 

Ghosted by @cockleshells I really love the plot of this fic - it’s so different and definitely such an intriguing concept. Don’t be put off by the “Major Character Death” tag (and I say this as someone who avoids that tag like the plague) I’ve ignored it in this case because the author also tags “i can at least promise you guys a happy ending” so that’s defs been enough to assuage my fears. It’s an amazing fic so far, so give it a read!!

Never a Guarantee by @clottedcreamfudge If you haven’t already been following this fic - what are you doing!! Loving everything about this fic - it definitely gets you hooked straight away. The slow burn killed me in the best way 😩

Slowly, Alex had gone from asking Would you please peel this for me? to Please? to silently extending the citrus without any comment at all, just a soft smile. It’s one of the things that make them Alex-and-Henry; the silent conversations and the contentment in each other’s company. Now, as Alex starts to flourish through his position on the lacrosse team, his slew of AP classes, and his role in student government, getting him to slow down at all is a feat. The only way that Henry can do it, guaranteed, is by one of those innocuous little fruits. There’s nothing Alex can’t do—surely, he could peel a fucking orange if he felt so inclined—but Henry delights in being able to do this for him. Red White and Royal Blue AU where Henry has lookalike bodyguards exactly like Padme does.

Maybe they're even called equerries. Where Shaan is still Shaan, but there's also like... Harold, Howard, Hector, Harvey, Henley, and Hans.

Henry: So what do you have against... the prince... anyway?

Alex: He's such a snob! The first day we met, he looked at me like I had head lice. Then he turned to that guy Shaan and said "get this peasant out of my sight."

Henry: Oof that must have been Herbie.

Alex: Wait really?

Henry: You'd be surprised how little the "prince" actually makes public appearances.

Alex: Huh. So do you think he'd let you come to my New Year's party?

Henry: I... uh? Yeah... I do believe he would....

Alex: Great!

Henry: !!!!!

And then the red room! Alex is so certain that he's going to have to talk to "the prince" or another lookalike and work his way through the ranks until someone lets him talk to Henry, and it would have been so very EASY for Henry to keep avoiding him forever, but he doesn't. The door opens and it's HIM.

Married to the Job x Royal AU!

84. Married to the Job & 2. Royal AU

Okay so I'm thinking the vibe here is very much, you know, Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs, Brimsley/Reynolds from Bridgerton's Queen Charlotte spinoff, mixed in with the hints we get of Shaan and Zahra's relationship. So we make both Alex and Henry equerries/secretaries/whatever to royalty, I'm thinking they each work for one half of a royal arranged marriage. So they meet before their charges' wedding, and they're both EXCEPTIONALLY protective of Their Royal and so there's a lot of clashes between them, cultural mismatches, etc.

Eventually they reach a detente, and then a sexy detente, and the bulk of the fic is them learning how to balance their duties and loyalties to the royal they're in charge of while also having this romance with each other, particularly when those two things butt up against each other, secrets have to be kept, all that angsty deliciousness.

I also think there'd be a lot of fun little like... hints of the royals having their own Arranged Marriage Tropey Shenanigans going on in their relationship that we only see through Alex and Henry who to them are side characters (very Rosencrantz and Guildenstern style, you know).

This one is a 5+1 fic that shows all the times Shaan knew there was something there between Henry and Alex even if they couldn’t see it :) it’s kind of a parallel to the Zahra fic!

Here’s a little snippet 😁💕

“I need to get out of here…” His Royal Highness says. His eyes are desperately searching the crowded conference as if looking for the best escape route. The young man standing next to him; the son of the new American President, who had only just approached and introduced himself — his hand was still gripping the Prince’s from their handshake — was now looking between His Royal Highness and Shaan, confused.

“Of course sir,” Shaan says without giving much more thought to the looming awkwardness of the situation. The Prince pulls his hand free of Alex’s, Shaan extends his arms towards a clearing in the crowd, and they make their way to the nearest exit.

Back at the Royal’s suite Shaan lingers in a doorway watching the Prince stare at his hand. He has been doing this since the President’s son released it. Shaan recognizes that look, he’s seen it a couple times before. That intrigued yet despaired look of longing for something — or perhaps this time someone – he can’t have. After some time the Prince finally closes his hand and turns his attention to his phone.

He sighs, deep and long, his eyes are heavy and dark circles are beginning to peek out from the fading foundation the Crown insists he wears to hide them. Shaan knows he hates being paraded around like this. Of course it doesn’t help that he’s still reeling from the loss of his father; Arthur, the kindest man Shaan had ever had the pleasure of knowing, taken way too soon from his family… from his children.

“Shaan,” he calls with a slight break in his voice, and Shaan quickly steps into view.

“How can I help you sir?”

“By not calling me sir…” There’s a pause, then a laugh as he turns those tired eyes to Shaan. “There’s no one around, you don’t have to be so formal. Henry is fine.”

Shaan smiles. The Prince — Henry… has told him many times he prefers his name over sir or Your Royal Highness; of course the King would probably lay an egg if he ever heard the equerry do so. He takes a breath; “Very well. How can I help you… Henry?”

19. Do you enjoy creating OCs or do you prefer to stick solely to canon characters?

For the most part, I think I prefer sticking to canon characters. It's just easier, generally. Although, sometimes a situation definitely calls for a character that just doesn't exist, in which case I don't mind making one to suit the scenario! I made a couple of OCs for It's Nice to Have a Friend - Robert the equerry and Judy the chef, both members of the staff at Kensington.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

Depends on the story I want to tell, and in some cases (like It's Nice to Have a Friend) it depends on the scene. I ended up with an alternating POV for INTHAF, because there were scenes in my outline that I knew would work better from Alex's POV, and scenes that would work better from Henry's. I even ended up writing one scene from June's POV.

37. What fic has been the hardest for you to write?

Okay, so... I haven't done a lot of writing since I finished INTHAF, so this is kind of a hard question for me to answer, but I recently started a pretty huge collaborative project with a bunch of other creators that's taking a lot of coordination and planning, so I guess you could say that one is pretty hard to write, since there are kind of, uh, layers to it 😂 It's a bit... I don't know if you'd call it meta, but it's very lore-heavy, and it will definitely take a lot of brain-power from all of us to get the result we want.
