I've been rewatching encantadia 2016 lately and this has been bugging me lately... This is about Lira's prophecy... First, is that she will bring encantadia to an era of peace and prosperity (hence "ang tagapagligtas ng encantadia".) And the second part which is "Her brother is the one "destined (itinakdang) to kill her. There are a lot of episodes that this was pointed out by both Cassiopeia and Ether. Like that episode when Ether was wiping everybody's memories of her because she was preparing her for the "person" that was meant to end her... This plot hole is still bugging me after all these years. What are your thoughts? Since Sanggre is now in the works, I wonder if they still can remember this... Because honestly, Lira was instrumental in bringing the sisters together but, watching closely, i think they would've still gotten back together with or without her...

For me, I think the reason why Lira didn't get to do much about her mission to reunite the Sang'gres and be the bringer of peace in the first half of the 2016 version (unlike its original counterpart), was that they were focused too much on the love triangle between Amihan, Ybrahim and Alena.

When Ether wiped out everyone's memory of Lira, I thought she'd use the opportunity to get closer to Pirena or...at least Alena and find ways to bring all four of them together. While I understand how desperate she was to make her family especially her parents remember her once more, I was kinda disappointed that she didn't think of her situation as a way to do what she's supposed to do.

As for the Sang'gres reuniting once more, I do agree that even without Lira, the sisters could have sorted things out and rebuilt their relationship on their own. They only needed time: for Alena to heal, for Pirena to be humbled, and for Danaya to soften up. Amihan never held grudges against her sisters despite all the pain she and her siblings went through, she waited for them and when the time came she welcomed them with open arms. Lira barely had anything to do with it.

Even in the war against Hagorn and the Hadezars, she really didn't do anything unlike the 2005 version when Lira didn't only succeed in reuniting the Sang'gres, she was the reason why other engkantados gained the courage to fight beside them.

Amihan ended up doing her daughter's mission, she was the real tagapagligtas and the bringer of peace (to be fair, Cassiopeia prophesized that Amihan was one of the leaders who will bring Hathoria down in one of the episodes).

When Amihan died in the second half of the show I was really hoping for a character development for her and Mira but alas, the screen writers killed her once more, then brought her back to life, then put her in a coma, and then brought her back at the finale.

Lira was one of my favourite characters in the original Encantadia saga but the 2016 version did her dirty.

As for Kahlil, he was just born to be a mere tool for everyone to use. I never liked how sad and tragic his story was even in the original and I was hoping for him to play a huge role at least in the second half of the show, but it never happened.

These siblings had so much potential, but they just wasted them which still makes me upset until now.

the wikipedia page for tagalog grammar is... surprisingly long?? it's longer than the english one. I'm actually amazed because like... it even has syntax trees!!

Dan Heng would want to know about all possible outcomes and every single detail first, before proceeding with his next move. He wouldn't let you sacrifice himself either and help you and your kingdom out in more productive ways.

He doesn't underestimate your abilities to take care of yourself and therefore encourages you to fight first, instead of sacrificing yourself. He doesn't want you to die on him either. He couldn't fathom losing you.

If things come to a head, he'd rather sacrifice himself, before you get a chance to do so. He'll protect you with his life and he always tells you so, even if you don't want to hear it.

Trying to fool him or trick him won't work either. He knows everything about you and would stop you from doing anything foolish. Even if he has to restrain you physically himself. He won't let you die, no matter what.

Being the Captain of the Silvermaneguards pays off greatly here, as he could use his expertise and knowledge to guide you into better strategies than you sacrificing yourself.

He however understands your will to die for your kingdom, as he endangers his life out on the front lines practically everyday for his city. But even so, he does it to protect his loved ones and you count too ofcourse, which is why he wouldn't want you to outright sacrifice yourself.

He'll keep you close and safe, never out of his sight. Trying to fool him or going behind his back to proceed with your plans wouldn't work either, as he'd be your personal guard in everything. He just wants you to stay alive and happy. If he has to die instead for it, then so be it.

As a General, he has enough manpower and intelligence to keep you and your kingdom safe and sound from any threats. You don't need to worry about a thing with him around and he makes sure you know, that he'll always be there.

Whilst he understands the want to sacrifice yourself for the kingdom, he still would definitely stop you from going that far. He thinks that there are more better ways to handle the situation and will make sure you never get that far.

Don't try going behind his back either, he'll know if you try anything. He'll find it even a little amusing, that you think he wouldn't notice what you're doing, but alas, he'll keep you close and tell you that he'll deal with all your issues. He just doesn't want to lose you.

Luocha is very calm and collected, never losing his cool once, when you tell him about your plans. He'll just simply listen to you speak, trying to weigh out the options, before dismissing your plan completely, telling you that there won't be any need for such drastic measures.

He'll make up a whole, more effective plan for you, showing you that there is still so much you could do, instead of just outright sacrificing yourself. He's just so convincing with his intelligent and calculated words, that it actually makes you reconsider everything.

If you however insist, he'll still not budge on his stance and keep you out of any trouble himself. Maybe he'll even ask your family to help, but he won't let you get hurt no matter what. You still have a long life to spend with him, after all.

Sang're: Encantadia Chronicles

With the news of an upcoming sequel to Encantadia in production, I couldn't help myself but revisit one of my favourite Filipino fantasy show ever produced. I watched all 218 episodes of the requel in a week and started re-watching the 2005 as well.

Growing up I remember trying to convince my mom to let me stay up late enough to watch the show and it was such a big part of my childhood. My sister, our neighbours, and I would pretend to be one of the sang're and try to reenact the show. From their fight scenes to their drama scenes, we did it all. I tuned in until the very last episode of the original version and even tried to learn the language because that's how drawn in I was with the world-building and fantasy aspect of the show.

Fast forward to 2016, I'm well into post-secondary and live outside the Philippines. When I heard about the requel, I made sure that we had GMA Pinoy TV and all the episodes were recorded. That way I didn't miss any episodes. Now, to be honest, I wasn't a fan of 2016 at first. I was very critical of some of the casting, the CGI work, and even the world-building. It felt familiar but not. I missed the mystical aspect of the show and I missed that I was able to suspend my disbelief for 30 minutes to escape to this enchanted place. I didn't get that escape from the 2016 version because it didn't feel magical enough for me. However, over time, I learned to enjoy the show because of its storytelling. I was invested in the characters and what was happening to them which led me to fall in love with Amihan and Ybrahim's romance in this version. I enjoyed the sisters' bond here and wish we saw more of it in the show. I liked how each Sang're got a chance to meet their father and we, the viewers, got to know each of them.

There were a lot of positives from the 2016 version which is why I feel sad that "season 2" of Encantadia will be focusing on a different generation. I understand that Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya have been the 4 iconic sangres for almost 20 years and it's time for new characters to succeed them. Unfortunately, I feel that the 2016 version had more stories to offer and the Sang'res had more adventures and stories to explore. Especially with the death of Amihan, there were storylines that were abandoned to accommodate Kylie's departure. I just hope that the fans get a proper closure for these 4 Sang'res and aren't left with an opening ending. Kinda like how Encantadia 2005 concluded. Arman, on the back of a dragon, narrates the story of the 4 Sang'res and properly transitions the audience to the new protectors with him, Armea and Cassandra. 2005 gave the audience a definitive conclusion to the main 4 while setting up a potential sequel. This is something 2016 tried to do but left viewers with more questions since they introduced Cassiopea's twin and set up 4 diwanis running on the beach.

Don't get me wrong, I like the actors that are playing the new Sang'res but I do hope this sequel will be a bridge to continue the original 4 stories until its creator can give those characters a proper send off. Also, I would love to see Danaya as a mother and give Pirena and Alena a chance to have children again. Additionally, it'd be nice to see the growth in Lira and Mira. Lastly, I would love to see Amihan reunite with her sisters and get the happy ending that her parents didn't have the privilege of having.

That being said, I am beyond excited to watch this show and hope that we get book 3 and book 4 like what the creator and writers have shared.

I just realized that Encantadia is some kind of Filipino ATLA. The fire nation/Hathoria is the one that wreaks havoc on the other 3 nations/lands. The child (Zuko/Pirena) who just wants affection and to prove themselves both start off as an antagonist, only to prove that they can still be redeemed.

The OG Sang'gres in one frame 😭😭 there was a part in their performance where they held hands as they fight off the bad guys which reminded me of that scene in Etheria (2006) where the Sang'gres kicked the Etherian soldiers' asses while being chained to each other (one of my favourite scenes in the show).

My wish for an epic Sang'gre 2005 vs Sang'gre 2016 showdown still remains. If Karylle can gather all of her sisters together for a performance in a TV show (partida walang franchise 'yan ha?), I am hoping that GMA, direk Mark, & madam SD could make it happen too.

16 YEARS AGO TODAY: 📺 On May 2, 2005, fantasy-drama series #Encantadia first aired on GMA Network's primetime block and became an instant TV hit spawning various spin-offs and merchandises. Its first installment run a total of 160 episodes. It starred Iza Calzado as Amihan, Karylle as Alena, Diana Zubiri as Danaya, and Miss Sunshine Dizon as Pirena.

It was immediately followed by two sequels, Etheria (50 episodes) and Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas (48 episodes) until 2006.

Ten years later, a ‘requel’ (remake and sequel) was produced with a total of 218 episodes in 2016. It starred Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, Sanya Lopez, and Glaiza De Castro as the four Sang’gre sisters.

Plot: “In the land of Encantadia, the Sang'gre sisters Alena, Danaya, Amihan and Pirena are designated guardians of four kingdoms within Encantadia. Trusted by the four gems that will keep the peace in the entire land. The ambition of Pirena will destroy this peace. It is one against three, it is sister against sisters.”

What's wrong with teleseryes?

I always ask this to my mom and titas everytime they run the TFC nonstop to the point of my loss of sanity: "Why can't you have a show that doesn't involve incessant crying every 5 minutes (especially from a kid), some mother screaming at her grown daughter like she has factory-made larynxes on reserve, gunshots for the sake of gunshots, and video editing that makes Youtubers on a budget look like Hollywood blockbusters?" You can argue this is just about any other daytime soap opera drama, but this is almost EVERY Filipino TV show in existence I've seen, either in passing or forced to endure when I was living in the Philippines 2005-2006.

And the problem is, I am SURE there are actual good ones, I want to check out Indio, Amaya, Mulawin, and Encantadia, because at the very least it is less likely to fall into the really annoying tropes and conventions I see on every TFC show otherwise. The only show in a modern setting I may check out is The Blood Sisters, and that is because I like the premise so far, and the crying and gunshots and screaming mothers seem to be only every other episode instead of every other 2 minutes.

ive been thinking about it and like. if i were ever able to do well enough to have my own tv show, like to do soap operas and telefantasyas and series and all that--i would want very much to have! control! over who gets to act in my stuff!! encantadia 2016 bombed because of the terrible actor choices, while enca 2005 held up because of how good the cast was.

at the same time, im thinking--some deep difference of a soap opera and a series like on netflix. like, if i understand correctly, in western countries you get greenlit for a whole season and then you film the whole thing and it drops week by week, right? soaps be different--got to film constantly, be on set frequently. I'm thinking about it. im thinking about what i want my life to be. thinking, dreaming, of the day i get to see my worlds come to life...
