Zoro x Fem! Shy and Gentle Reader Part 1! Everyone knows about her obvious crush on Zoro, and how she tries so hard to get him to like her back. She still cares for the others, but she’s like a little puppy following Zoro. Zoro is annoyed but doesn’t say anything. When someone with some Love Love Fruit attacks and hits Zoro, S/O is forced to fight Zoro, with him hating her and saying all horrible stuff, like I wish I never met you. After the fight, S/O pretends everything is okay.

Having the ship docked on an island nearby, the Strawhats proceed to explore the land, getting the necessary supplies they need before leaving the ship.

“Y/n! I'm going with Robin, do you want to come with us?” Chopper asks, voice filled with excitement.

“Ah, uhm.. Sorry, but I'm good.. I'll just stick with him.” You muttered, eyeing a certain moss haired male as you spoke.

“Oh? Okay, we'll be going now, then. Get along, you two, okay?” Robin hums, picking Chopper up and taking him to who-knows-where, most likely to a candy shop.

“..Mhm...” Watching the rest of the crew go to their destination, you stayed near the ship to where Zoro is. Admiring him in silence..

“Oi, why didn't you go with them? I'm fine guarding the ship myself.” Zoro grumbles, looking at you with a small frown on his face.

“I.. I want to stay here with you.” You stated, ending your sentence with a whisper that the male didn't hear.

“Hah. Okay, do whatever you want, I don't really care.” He shrugs, placing his arms behind his back as he sat down the deck, looking at the scenery around him while you, on the other hand, looked at him instead.

“..And don't stare at me, Y/n. I can feel your stare, weirdo.” Huffs the male, a light tint of pink dusting his cheeks that were barely obvious.

“O-Oh! Uhm, sorry.. It's just... I'm admiring you because.. You look, uhm, cool?” You admitted, wearing a crooked smile with your embarassed expression.

“Heh, that's right, I am cool.” Sneered the moss haired swordsman, being cocky as ever, but you didn't mind this, only minding that he talked to you.

“Y..Yeah! You're so cool, especially when you fight...!” You said with sparkles surrounding you, praising him more, and boosting his swelling ego.

“Of course, now shut up. I'm gonna sleep.” Shutting you off immediately, Zoro lets out a deep exhale before dozing off, leaving you in silence.

“...Okay, sleep well.” You muttered, lowering your head slightly as you sat beside his sleeping figure, chuckling to yourself with a blushy face by Zoro's sleeping expression.

..Having a few minutes pass by, you suddenly noticed a strange figure lurking around Thousand Sunny, catching your attention.

“..Who... Is that—?” You muttered, standing up to check it out, but then—

“Stay back, it might be an enemy.” Zoro interrupted, grabbing your hand and pulling you back to your place while he stood up to check the creeping figure instead.

“A..Ah, Zoro please let me come with you.” You nagged to the slightly annoyed male who sighed deeply.

“Fine, just don't be a nuisance to me if I ever fight that creep.” He says with a huff, receiving a nod from you as you trailed behind him, going down the ship to see who's lurking around..

“Hey weirdo who's in here, come out and don't be such a coward!” Zoro demands with a loud boom of his voice, ready to fight with his precious swords.

“Ayehehe~!” A voice laughed, getting the ends of your hair to rise up in fear, hiding yourself behind Zoro's body as the figure slowly showed himself..

“Oh, what a weird laugh. It suits a weirdo like you.” Insults the moss haired male, taking his swords out to fight.

“Shut up, Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro! I have no intention of fighting, I just want this good ship you Strawhats own!” Stating his intention, you and Zoro frowned by this.

“Then you won't get what you want without a fight, with me.” Stitching his brows to a frown, Zoro positioned his swords as his enemy smirked.

“I was told that the Strawhats care for each other very much, and would go as far to start a war with the World Government!” Exclaimed the male, a big, eerie smile plastered on his face.

“..And with that, I can assure my win.” Finishing his sentence, Zoro clicked his tongue, not wasting any more of his time.

“Yeah yeah, whatever you cocky shit. I'll defeat you now.” Sending attacks to the enemy who dodged his attack, still wearing his smile, you gasped...

“Wait, Zoro!” Grabbing his collar and pulling him away for a a while, you went on to warn Zoro about something.

“That guy is Bodo! A known thief a devil fruit user—Ai Ai no mi, a devil fruit that turns love into hatred..!” You were quick to warn, catching Zoro nod with a frown.

“..It's not something to worry on, it's not like I like you or somethin'.” Muttered the swordsman as your heart sunk into a void..

“Ah Ah~ What are you two talking about, mhm~?” Bodo cooes, showing off his ability with a reddish light on his palm.

“Nothing, now let's fight, fucker.” Starting to clash with each other, you stood away from them, stand by with your sword in hand, ready to back Zoro up even though you knew that he didn't need it.

Soon later, only after a few returns of clashing with each other, the fight ended with Zoro's victory. Stepping on Bodo's chest that was slashed by his swords.

“Pfft, you're a devil fruit user, yet you're still weak.” Humiliated Zoro, cleaning the blood off his katana, letting his guard down for a quick moment...

“..Uhm! Congrats on winning Zo—” “..Ai Beam!” i quit, i'm dead, kill me pls. /hj.

Having a red beam shoot Zoro's arm, scraping it lightly, Bodo passed out with a victorious smile on his face.

“Zoro! Your arm..!” You shout, dashing towards him in panic, but the male sent you a glare, causing you to shiver under his stare.

“..You, woman...” He trails, a sword in his hand, ready to fight again—but this time, with you.

“Z..Zoro, don't tell me....” Shaking, you clasped the sword in your hand, breathing heavily..

“You're so fucking annoying!” He spat, landing a blow on your side with the back of his blade, doubling the pain you've gotten from his words and hit.

“You're so clingy to me, that's just—can't you stay on your own space and not invade mine!?” Zoro roared, still giving you his attacks that you dodged and blocked. Staying silent as you listened to his words.

“Why did Luffy even invite you to the crew!? You're just a pushover anyway! I wish I never met you..!”

Hearing his harsh words, you couldn't help it but have tears in your eyes as you fought with him, heart aching in pain from the man you love..

“Zoro..” You shuddered, looking at his cold eyes that stared back at yours in hatred, anger mirrored in them...

“I.. Fucking... Hate you!” He boomed before freezing for a solid minute, finally regaining his usual state back.

“Wha—wait, what happened, woman? I remember... I was fighting that Bodo guy a while ago..” He muttered, the effect of the devil fruit washing away from him.

“Z..Zoro! I—Uhm, nothing.. You.. You defeated Bodo, and—ah, nothing now...” You explained as Zoro huffed, shrugging what happened away.

“Ah, okay—oh look, the others are here.” Zoro points out as you jolted, immediately wiping your tears away and putting up a smile.

“Oh.. They're here, that's great. And Zoro, let's patch up your wound, yeah?” You hummed, going back to the ship with the rest.

“Okay, there, done.” You said with a smile, tying the bandage on Zoro's wounded arm, thanked by him.

“Thanks.” He dryly said, standing up and leaving, going up to the crow's nest to rest there.

“Hey, Y/n~ Why did Zoro get a wound?” Luffy asks as you opened your mouth slightly, letting a gasp out.

“O..Oh! You saw a guy on the ground a while ago, right? Zoro he... He fought that guy because he wanted to take our ship.” You explained as Luffy blinked in shock.

“Geh!? He wants our ship!? Lucky that Zoro kicked his ass, I don't want to loose Sunny!” He exclaims as you nodded.

“Ah! Y/n, you seem to have a wound on your arm too..! Doctor Chopper will take care of it, wait..!” Chopper gushed, getting some band-aids to patch you up.

“Did you fight too, Y/n?” The reindeer asks as you hitched a breath, forcing a smile to your face and then nodding..

“U..Uh-huh. Zoro did most of the work though..” You lied, but it was enough to convince everyone.

“Ah, okay! Glad that you're fine now though, right?” He chirped while you looked down to your feet, biting your lower lip..

“Yeah, I'm all good..” Whispering your words, your mind went back to your clash with Zoro, recalling all the things he said that made your heart clench in pain...

So, how exactly are you good with shades, shadows, light sources in drawing? I've always had trouble with those sort of things so I was wondering if you could give me some advice other than "practice." Also, are you an animator or what exactly is your art profession? I'm an art student soon to be taking her Masters, but I still want to know.

i think some good advice is to grab some objects you have, and maybe a flashlight, and move the light around these things and see what parts cast shadows and which parts attract light. shadows and light sources all come from understanding that what you’re drawing is a 3 dimensional object. the more you start to understand the shapes that make up forms (like the human face, what cloth folding means, etc) the more you will start to see your art as an object that casts shadows instead of just a flat drawing. practice will only get you so far, a lot of art is thinking hard about what you’re drawing.

Here are some images that visually explain what I mean. I wouldn’t even draw these myself bc time is short and there is always so much I want to draw, BUT looking at them and studying them is a valid form of practice just as much as drawing is.

^^^^ this is the same head, shown at three different angles, but the head is made of the same basic shapes each time. In each photo can you identify the light source? if you can, great! now think, Why do you know where the light is coming from? Its because even though these are 2D photos, the object in the photo has a very clear 3D form. Apply that knowledge to your art! If you can’t tell where the light source is coming from, start to analyze which parts of the face are highlighted and which parts are in shadow. Reality tells us things that are brighter are closer to the light, things that are darker are obscured by some other form which is why shadows are cast. Shadows happen when the light is unable to reach part of the form because something opaque is obscuring the light from passing through! 

Here is another great image from RobynRose on deviantart that shows how light from different angles casts shadows on different parts of the face and body. This happens because we are 3 dimensional forms! 

When it comes to finding visual refs to study from, another awesome resource is senshistock on deviantart. Its literally a god send for art refs. They do great poses, have amazing diversity with their models and are an overall great resource!). I also recommend pinterest boards that people have already made. its a really quick and easy way to find a large amount of tutorials and visual explanations on like any art topic you need help with! The only downside with pinterest is if you’re going to use any specific image as a direct reference for a piece, make sure you can hunt down the source creator for that tutorial if you plan on sharing it anywhere! Pinterest is often a helpful but creditless place lol.

So, you say you’re tired of being told to just practice. Well, thats super fair! But realize part of bettering your art is paying attention to the way things look all! the! time! Pay attention, detailed attention to everything around you when you’re not drawing. And by paying attention I mean like, walking into a room and identifying the light source, is there more than one light source, is there any kind of secondary light source, etc. Now, its not that I’m consciously doing these things 24/7 but it’s more of like, a mode of vision.

Art is just as much about understanding, thinking, and problem solving as it is making things look pretty and knowing which colors to pick. ESPECIALLY when it comes to shading and light sources, that stuff requires serious thought. So, when you are ready to practice some more I recommend using a reference photo to practice (being told using references is cheating or shameful is the biggest lie young artists are told. its so damaging) and when you have your reference photo, don’t just copy what you see, think about WHY it looks the way it does. Why is there a shadow there? whats blocking it? why does the clothes fold the way it does? what is it being pushed or pulled against? All these questions become clearer the more you start to visualize what youre seeing as something that is 3 dimensional instead of 2 dimensional.

May I ask how exactly you became so good with art? Like, do you have any tips? And please, don't say practice makes perfect, because I do know that, and I have heard that so many times already.

Ah, I have, some bad news for you XD

The answer really is to just practice a lot! ^^;

The only tip I can give is to draw things that that you like and that make you happy! It’s a daunting task when you’re starting out, but it’s not like you have to start with figure drawing or something, the most important thing is to draw every day, and that’s easier to do when you’re focusing on things that you like!

It’s important of course to branch out later and try things outside your comfort zone, but, it’s not something you need to start with!

This is also a scientific fact I heard as well as a psychological one, but I heard humans' minds work faster and increase intelligently under pressure. Like, say that you have to solve a puzzle but you're on a time limit and if you don't, you'll be devoured by beasts who'll be let out once the timer ends. The human mind accelerates and time slows down around the human, giving them some time as they somewhat have a panic attack.

I had no idea, huh. I guess it’s sort of like getting an adrenalin boost, but for your brain.

I have heart about the one where your mind is a bit sharper, kinda like what you just described, but when you’re hungry. Not starving, mind you, but when it’s just about time for you to go get some food.

Both make sense from a survival stand point. You need to think fast when you’re hunting for food and when you’re in a dangerous situation. Those that survive get to pass on their genes and evolution does the rest I guess.

The more you guys add to this AU the more I realise just how much humans are actually capable of. Sucks that the apocalypse got triggered before we could prove it to the other races though

How are you so good at drawing? I try my best and even though my artwork is decent (you can check my stuff in my blog) I always feel like it's not enough, like it's not good enough even though I try my best. Any tips or thoughts?

I have simply been doing that shit for a while now. I started to pursue a creeer in the art / design business pretty much exactly 10 years ago, and art has been my hobby for 10 more years before that. So, 20+ years of drawing almost every day.

And that my friend, is the thing I tell EVERYONE who asks me about “being good at art”: Practice. Is. Key. Also, use references as much as you possibly can! I don’t know when it became popular to tell artists that references are bad and you need to be able to draw everything from memory. But when I went to university to study game design, the first thing we learned in Concept Art class was where to find reference materials and how to use it. We were thought about building muscle memory from tracing. About programs and online tools to help with poses, perspective and composition. All that stuff.

Just keep doing what you do, and you will do great! Not every piece you do has to be a masterpiece. Not everything you post needs to get notes. That kind of thinking has caused my art to stagnate for a few years and kept me from improving.Your art doesn’t have to be “enough” for anyone but you. And hell, on some days it won’t even be that! But, want to know a secret?If you look at your art and think “Wow shit I hate this”, that means you have improved! That means you now see mistakes you did not notice while you were working on it. You may not know yet how to fix them, but you will learn in time.

It’s all about learning, buddy. And as long as you create, you learn.

She spends less time with Zoro and more time training and helping the others, whether through activities or battles. Zoro begins missing S/O, and one day, they have a private talk. S/O confesses what her feelings were and apologizes. Zoro thought he would be happy for S/O but actually misses her company and makes her promise to wait for him to achieve his dream before a true decision would be made.

“Finally.” You thought to yourself upon sitting on the dining table with the crew, happy to be reunited with them after so long..

It was a tough without them on those days, but you're glad that you're with them once again. “Mademoiselle, your meal is here~!”

Sanji interrupts, giving you your favorite as you hummed, thanking him. “Thank you, Sanji..”

“You're welcome, m'lady, always happy to serve a pretty lady like you, mellorine!” Doing his usual heart-eyes look,you chuckled.

“Mhm.. Still flirty as ever, huh, Sanji? Ah, but I don't mind. I'm happy that you're still the same.” You stated, taking note of the other's personality that didn't change at all; still lively...

While Zoro on the other hand eyed you chat with the others on the corner, having his mouth fall agape, observing you. “She... Changed.”

He noted, glancing away for a moment because of the panging sensation in his chest.. You haven't even talked nor interacted with him yet, and it honestly hurts him.

“..Ah.” You gasped before taking small steps towards Zoro who was tapping his fingers on the wooden floor, seeming like he was impatiently waiting for you to talk to him.

“Zoro, hey.” Greeting the moss head, you then sat down beside him on the floor, keeping a good 3-foot distance away from the swordsman who turned his head to you.

“Yo. It's.. It's been a while.” Scratching his nape, Zoro lets out an awkward greeting, causing you to chuckle. “My my, how awkward, Zoro. But scratch that, how you doing?”

“Oh. I'm good. And sorry 'bout that... I just don't know how to start a proper conversation, with you.” Admitting this, Zoro clenched one of his swords as he frowned.

“Eh..? Then, I'll be going now, I just... Wanted to check on you. If there's anything you need, just call me. I'll be helping chopper ground some herbs..”

Ending the small chat with a shrug, you then left Zoro alone to only watch your figure get out of his sight, once again.

It isn't like before anymore, you don't follow him around like a puppy anymore, and it hurts him. He misses your company, he misses you, very much.

“Damn it...” Silently cursing himself as he swung the large dumbbells in his hand, Zoro grit his teeth. Annoyed by the fact that you've been spending less and less time with him.

“Gardening with Usopp, Robin, and Nami on mornings, helping out with Franky and Chopper on noons together with Brook, cooking snacks with that curly-browed cook on afternoons, then playing around with Luffy, training by herself on evenings—and no time for me..!?”

Letting out his frustrations by training himself to his bones, Zoro's jealousy started to swell. “I.. I have no right to be jealous of the low attention span she gives me, but still....!”

Dropping the weights, the swordsman took a deep sigh. Making his mind up; “That's it, I'll talk to Y/n. I... I need to let this—this thing out.”

Swallowing the lump on his throat, he then stood in front of the room you're training on, knocking a few times as his heart pounded loudly, yet it also ached because of your ignorance on him.

“Yes? Who is it—oh, Zoro. What brings you here?” You asked, wiping your sweat off with the towel that is slinged over your shoulder.

“Y/n. Can... Can we talk?” He croaks as you widened your eyes. Nodding your head and offering him inside your room despite the shock of his sudden arrival. “O..Of course, uhm, come in..!”

Now inside, you two sat in front of each other. Sitting down the floor in silence.

“..So...? What do we talk about, ha..haha..ha?” Letting a nervous laugh out, you then asked Zoro who got tense, immediately looking down to the floor.

“About that.. I just... I just wanted to ask... Uh—how are you doing? And uh, what.. What happened to you 2 years ago?” Scratching his nape as he spoke, the moss head cleared his throat as he waited for your answer.

Thinking back, you then wore a weak smile on your face as you went on to answer his question, “..Y'know, we all got separated, then I was trained to be a swordswoman by someone random.”

“And uh, during that time.. I was kinda depressed by our separation...” You admit, an awkward, and suffocating silence taking over the room once again. “Ah, wait, about that..”

“Do you still remember Bodo? The guy who attacked you before? Do you know that his powers turns love to hate?” Bringing up this topic, Zoro's cheeks flushed red, avoiding your eyes with all his might.

“Haha, I still remember that when you started to hate me because of the effects of his Devil Fruit, I was honestly hurt. But after some time, I realized that you might've reciprocated my feelings for you back then!” You exclaimed with a small chuckle, tucking your hair behind your ear to hide your embarrassment as you continued, not giving Zoro a chance to speak up.

“Then yeah, I got teleported by Kuma to an isolated land to be a swordswoman...” Pausing, a sigh escaped your lips, frowning.

“That's—That's when I got really sad because I'm alone. All alone without my friends, and without you.”

“...So to get rid of that sadness in me, I decided to just focus on training to get stronger so I can protect not only myself, but also my crew mates!” Shrugging this off, you then looked up to the ceiling, the smile on your face slowly fading as Zoro stared at you in awe.

“Though Zoro, I admit that when I was training, I kinda forgot about you and... My feelings for you, because I realized that—I was being too pushy with you before, right?”

Turning your head to Zoro who widened his eyes upon hearing your words, he opened his mouth to speak up, looking down to the floor. “Yeah... You were honestly kinda pushy, but I miss it, now that you're being quite distant with me.”

Confessing this to you, Zoro lets a heavy sigh out. Now taking it as his turn to let the cat out of the bag. “It's also true that I did like you before and reciprocated your feelings. And... Do you still like me..?”

Zoro asks in a small voice, causing you to crack a sheepish grin, shifting your glance all around the room. “..Yeah. I still do.”

“Fuck...” He cursed under his breath. A blush taking over his face that he hid from you, yet it only lasted for a moment since the aching in his heart came back, knowing that he has to turn you down because—

“That's... Assuring, knowing that you still like me too. But I gotta apologize, Y/n.. I... I wanna focus on my goal first, and help Luffy to be the Pirate King before anything else. So... If you can, please, wait for me.”

Right, this man is hard to love after all..

Mouth falling agape, you exhaled, nodding your head despite being having your heart sting in pain as you spoke in a brittle voice, about to cry. “A-Ah, yeah, yes. I.. I understand. And—thank you, Zoro... I can, and I will wait, no matter how long will it take us, because I love you.”

Gasping loudly before springing up from your bed, you panted, having a nightmare on how Zoro bad-mouthed you after an encounter with Bodo, the devil fruit user who turns love to hate..

“Ugh... That thing again..” You muttered, wrapping your blanket tighter to your body as a tear dropped from your eyes..

“Zoro..” Thinking of the male, you had your mouth tugged downwards as you recalled his words and fight, you then sighed. Looking up the ceiling of your room.

“Bodo turns love to hate... And Zoro.. He hated me for a while after the encounter with him.” You stated. “Could it be...?”

Eyes widening by your hypothesis, you then shook your head, remembering how desperate you were into pursuing Zoro.

“No.. Zoro may like me back but—I was forcing myself, and my feelings to him. That's.. That's unfair.” Sighing deeply, you then gave yourself a light smack on your cheek.

“I should just focus on what's more important right now—and that is getting stronger.”

Puffing your chest up as you got up from your bed, you immediately went on to train your swordsmanship skills like usual for the sun is almost out..

“Can I do that..?” Asking yourself that question, tears welled up your eyes as you bit your lower lip to silence your sobs...

It is painful to let go of the one that you love, and you know this well, especially now that you're letting someone special in your heart go.. “What am I saying...?”

Swallowing back your tears you let a shaky breath out before wiping your wet cheeks... “I can do it, I'll give it up, it's not like loving can make me stronger or something.”

Making your mind up in deciding to let go and just train, your expression went blank like your mind.. Finally letting go of the boy who really is hard to love...

The problem that I have besides my art is that I'm often busy with classes and I have to study and at the end of the day, my mind is like, too tired and full of headaches to think straight about art. I’ve been there, trust me. Sometimes you just don’t have the energy even for the things you love. Don’t push yourself too hard- Regular practice is important, but if you force yourself to create art, you will reach the point where you loose the fun. Take all the time you need, my friend. And never stop loving what you do

I'd like to add more to that Escape Room AU. Maybe as a sign of revenge, Angels and Demons try to kidnap a few humans and try to create their own versions of Escape Rooms, being all smug and confident and thinking it would be karma for the humans putting them through hell. But imagine their reactions when they work together to solve the puzzles, as well as their explosive frustrations. NOW it would be the humans turn to be smug

OMG this is brilliant, yes!

The other Kingdoms already know that humans are very socially focused creatures. That’s why they designed their rooms specifically to put a wedge between them: tricks to heighten frustrations, sow mistrust, misdirect - just any trick in the book to make any team break apart.

Now imagine their surprise when barely a second after one of the humans finally yelled at one of his teammates, they hear this:

“.... I’m sorry guys. I-  I’m going through a divorce right now. I-I mean, right when I got nabbed and... *sigh* I’m really on edge, but that’s no excuse to take it out on you guys. I’m sorry...”

“Oh, honey... It’s okay. We’re all on edge and this situation really isn’t helping. I’m sorry too, I shouldn’t have been rushing you kids.”

“Yeah... And I’m sorry I ‘aven’t eally been pullin’ my weight. I’m not so great wit’ puzzles”

They make up and get back to work on escaping the room, now calmer and working better than before. Meanwhile whoever kidnapped them is just standing there staring in disbelief.

Admitting fault? Admitting WEAKNESS? Followed by understanding and honest apologies? What?

(Not all kidnapped humans manage this, mind you. Some people just don’t mesh well, especially in high-stress situations. But I can bet my bottom coin that humans would put a LOT more into learning/teaching stress management, teamwork building and such after they learned just what was out there, beyond their little realm)
