Rating the new Monster High designs 'cause I honestly love them.

1. Clawdeen

I love that they gave her actual fur and a wolf nose!

All the moons incorporated into her look pull the whole thing together

HER FRECKLES ARE SO CUTE.

The whole "half-human" is new but I kinda like it

My only problem is that her lighter hair with the purple streaks is too much purple; i feel like her darker hair would have balanced it put more.

2. Draculaura

THEY GAVE HER A SUNHAT. CRUCIAL VAMPIRE ACCESSORY

Her hair seems a lot more vampiric; the split color with the pointed bangs? Nice

I like that they kinda made her a rebel. wants to be a witch when its forbidden? I get that

kinda wish she had more Victorian elements.

3. Frankie

I love their neon vibe a lot more; it fits the idea of lightning, electicity, etc.

Edit: I forgot to point out that I also like her new blue skin. Everyone’s hating it, but skin technically turns blue when it’s cold and dead, not green. So I am liking the blue.

All in all, I like it a little, but I feel like they REALLY could've done better with his design.

So I just came up with a Gen 1 fanmade line

I call it "Fright at NecroCon". I got inspired by the SDCC Exclusive Ghoulia doll and my own experiences at comic conventions. As a fanatic, there's way more to comic conventions than just comics, and I plan to share all the aspects... Monster High edition.

The line would have the following characters:

Ghoulia: She's the biggest comic book lover in the franchise, and we know she's a big DeadFast fan. We know her SDCC doll has her all dressed up in a DeadFast cosplay, complete with an action, tote bag, and comic. My NecroCon doll is kinda a mix between a rerelease version of the SDCC doll with having a DeadFast cosplay dress, sheer black leggings and boots and something a bit more original with red/black highlights in her hair and a DeadFast mask (it goes over her head as opposed to the SDCC's eye mask). For accessories, she comes with a poster of DeadFast (her School Club fashion pack has a DeadFast action figure and comic, so those accessories could be a perfect accompaniment with this fan doll).

Clawdeen: To channel the cosplay aspect of comic conventions, Clawdeen is included. To make a callback to the SDCC Cerise Wolf doll from Ever After High, Clawdeen has a cosplay heavily inspired by this doll, but it has our favorite wolf fashionista's color palette (black, gold, purple, green). This Clawdeen doll will also come with a doll-sized card that has her social media information (nodding to any cosplayers who hand out information cards)

Frankie: I also got inspired by the Bride of Frankenstein Skullector dolls we got a while ago, but Frankie is in the NecroCon fan line to represent a fan's first experience. I'm channeling my first con experience, because I went in cosplay and Frankie would be in a cosplay inspired by her mother! So that means Frankie will have a hairstyle/makeover similar to her monster mom and iconic bride. Been thinking about throwing Jackson into the mix dressed in a Frankenstein monster cosplay (as a 2-pack?). Frankie would also have a miniature map of the NecroCon center since this is her first convention!

Kjersti: Gonna give a character that only had ONE doll some recognition in this fan line. We know that Kjersti is a very skilled gamer, and video games can often be seen in comic conventions. She'd come with her own game controller and coffin-shaped video game box with a disc (much like Dead Tired Draculaura's accessory).

Elissabat: We know celebrity guests are big in comic conventions, so it made sense to me to have Elissabat be featured. Aside from comic book artists, celebrities like movie stars are guests at cons, and Elissabat (aka Veronica von Vamp) is our special NecroCon guest. She'd come with a few images related to her Vampire Heart films as prints, one of which would be signed. But Elissabat can't provide autographs to all the monster fans without a pen.

Draculaura: I wanted to throw in Draculaura to represent the casual fan, the ones who don't typically dress up in cosplay. I want to have an excuse to have Lala and Elissabat be in the same line. Our favorite vegan vampire comes wearing a Vampire Heart t-shirt and for accessories, a picture with and autograph from Elissabat!

Catrine: Representing the artists by having Catrine be a part of the NecroCon line. We were robbed of having paintings be included with her dolls, and I'm remedying that by giving her some paintings/art pieces she did and will be selling at the convention.

Slo-Mo: I just thought it'd be cute to include Slo-Mo and surprise Ghoulia by going to NecroCon in a full on DeadFast cosplay. 🥺

Each doll would also come with their iCoffin, a badge/lanyard (like with the Music Festival line), and a NecroCon tote bag. And in the box, a poster of the characters in their NecroCon looks for you.

This was just a fun idea/vision I had. I'm not sure if I'll do more, but let me know if you want to hear my other visions for fanmade Gen 1 doll lines. What other characters would you like to see be a part of this fanmade line?

@undertakers-wife First of all, I'm glad to hear that my questions led you to considering new sides of your s/i. Please take your time with writing the answers and figuring out everything, I'm more than willing to wait for the sake of information.

So, speaking of Monster High...

Monster High is unironically one of the most important things that shaped my childhood and influenced me as a person. I immediately fell in love with it from the first time I saw the TV commercial and then when the dolls appeared in our stores. They are the reason I have come to love fashion and character design so much, as well as securing my interest in all things unconventional and macabre.

I have a small collection of dolls (If I'm not mistaken, I have 13 of them. I'm far from home right now, so I can't check) that are still in almost perfect condition, not counting a few lost accessories and the plastic of the pale-skinned dolls becoming yellow. Even now that I'm not giving them that much attention, I still treasure my collection.

I wish I had more dolls, but it was already such a struggle to get each one of them, mainly because my family used to hate them for being so "dark" and "scary" (if not straight up possessing "evil energy"...). But now they have become much more chill about them (for some reason, even my superstitious grandma started to like my dolls, after spending years being disgusted by them), so I'm planning on getting more. Which would be, unfortunately, no easier now than it was before because I'm only interested in Gen1.

I genuinely wanted to be as excited about the reboot as everyone else seems to be, but it turned out to be a complete miss for me. I guess it is a good show/toy line by itself, but I have absolutely no interest in it, preferring Gen1 in almost every way. There are some things that I like about Gen3, but my disappointment with the rest heavily outweighs them. Honestly, I have a lot of thoughts about Gen3 and I can't even begin to talk about it without it turning into a pages-long rant.

Oh well, at least Twyla's and Draculaura's new face molds are very pretty, so I consider buying them someday to restyle them.

It's hard to choose a favourite character since each one of them is great in their own way, but Toralei is the one closest to me. It's complicated because I love her and find her annoying at the same time, but it all comes down to the fact that I relate to her a lot.

I also appreciate Cleo as one of the most well-written characters of the franchise. I like her for being this over-dramatic and lowkey mean queen bee, while at the same time she's just so human (ha) and so sympathetic. Clawdeen is always a pleasure to see and I aspired to be a fashion designer just like her when I was younger. I also really enjoy diary versions of Venus, Spectra and Rochelle – cartoons did them dirty, they were so cool in diaries. Especially Spectra, diary version of her is such a bitch, I can't help but adore her. I'm also quite fond of Catty Noir and Catrin DeMew, for no other reason than thinking that they're neat.

But my first favourite character in Monster High was Frankie. I know that many fans find Gen1 Frankie to be annoying or bland, but there's something so charming about her. And she's much braver, smarter and more capable than people give her credit.

By the way, my biggest win so far was getting Frankie's basic doll. She was the first doll I set my eyes on when Monster High just appeared on the shelves and finally getting her years later was a triumph. Ironically, it was the last monster high doll I got, just before the first reboot.

Now I'm set on getting more Clawdeen dolls because I love almost all of her doll designs. I also want to get my hands on basic Draculaura because she's iconic, and basic Toralei because, well, it's Toralei. Okay, I have an extensive list of dream dolls, so I'm not going to write about them all here.

I can totally see Lilia liking Monster High – it's very much his style and he's not the type of person to get bothered about liking something "for kids". I think he could have gotten into it after someone pointed out to him that he's basically Draculaura's twin.

And I'm curious about your OCs – Monster High is the kind of setting where you can go all out when creating unique characters. Surprisingly, I myself only have one Monster High OC (which is also a self-insert), I have more of them in Ever After High.

The Monster High Movie

So it's not looking up to be a great film but I'm honestly still excited to see what they do with the franchise.

The change to seemingly have Clawdeena discover she's a werewolf is interesting but not one I'm opposed to.

I still don't understand the point of Draculaura being a witch.

I actually really like the piranha teeth on Lagoona. I still don't really like the movie design all that much but it's not horrible. If they are moving her character to be a siren instead of the creature beneath or whatever, ngl, that'll be a little sad to see such an iconic reference get erased, but I like sirens. Sirens are cool.

With the new designs in general, I honestly think people are complaining too much (aside from Lagoona's and that one teacher's design). I would've loved to see the original designs of the characters on screen, but you have to realize, while still popular, goth fashion is simply not as relevant as it used to be. Fashion leaning more toward pastels and maximalist stuff from what I've seen. The only subculture I personally know of that's aesthetically similar to anything goth-related is lolita stuff. Which Draculara's outfit seems to reference.

I will say this, I fucking HATE how Duece is pursuing Clawdeena. GIrl Nah. To the Nah, Nah, nahhh.

Also the possibility of HEATH AND CLEO? BITCH, THEY PERSONALLY INSULTED ME WITH THAT ONE. Heath x Frankie was so good... I mean Jackson x Frankie was better BUT STILL.

As far as the trans-Frankie thing goes. Personally, I don't see why everyone is so mad about it. I feel like you can keep the core of the character while having them be non-binary. I would see the discomfort if they had just made the character a dude, but their not. As for the introduction scene, I understand that it does come off as unnatural, but I can use that same argument to explain that it makes sense that Frankie would introduce themselves that way since they haven't had much monster interaction. I think a trans take on a Frankenstein's monster character makes a lot of sense honestly.

📖He grew up in a very big house, which led to a rather lonely childhood. Most of his time was spent reading books from his family’s vastly large library. He spent many times revisiting and rereading his favourites. Sometimes visiting the gardens to read. 📖

📖He actually would tend to the gardens himself sometimes when he felt like it, not like he had much else to do or anyone else to talk to. However it was due to this, that he began to grow an appreciation towards life and most things living. 📖
