hhhhhh yes. dofladile was my otp in like 2018 and they infested my brain for like a year or two or three and then by the time i actually started posting fanfic in 2021, i kind of. chilled out about them? still love them dearly, but they aren't storming my head anymore.

i do have a wip about them. i didn't post it yet because a) idk how long it will be, b) idk how to end it, and c) i'm worried about the reception. i know people are probably gonna like it but. idk. they're a more popular ship and i'm used to writing less popular stuff that doesn't really get perceived so. i guess i'm not ready to be perceived XD ANYWAY i will stop rambling and share a sample for you, the lovely teeb

The king of Dressrosa, to no one’s surprise, drank wine like water. Crocodile counted the glasses as they went because it was easier to focus on that than the shrill discourse of this chaotic assembly he called family. He let his mind wander to the potential root of this situation, the psychology of his host, the reasoning behind such an unbecoming crowd. Some sort of family trauma, no doubt, perhaps some damaged self-esteem, some isolation when he was young. 

How this charismatic, boisterous, cunning individual with ties to Mariejois was ever lonely didn’t add up though. Maybe it was something simpler. Could have lost his family in a fire. He seemed averse to smoking. That was probably it.

The large, blond, bearded man at the end of the table was telling a rallying tale. Crocodile didn’t even pretend to express interest, but he was thankful it seemed to keep the rest of the crew silent and in order. An occasional round of chuckles was enough to intercept his thought process, but that was easier to cast aside than direct involvement.

Sixth glass, he noted, as Doflamingo, sitting proudly at the head of the table, leaned in towards that dancer. She sat awfully close for an officer, but Crocodile supposed the two were obviously involved. It was all there in the way she batted her eyes, the way he fingered the tablecloth. Maybe calling them family was all for show.

Those dark eyes of hers landed on him. He straightened up but didn’t avoid eye contact. Not immediately, at least. Their gossiping wasn’t subtle so he had no reason to play coy. He broke away eventually to sip that too-sweet wine, and wasn’t too surprised when Doflamingo’s attention soon filtered his way.

“Enjoying your meal?”

“It’s not terrible.” He was remiss to admit, although he’d rather this steak a bit more cold-blooded.

“Some of the best along this part of the New World,” Doflamingo boasted coolly, “so the critics say. In any case, Crocodile, this is the dancer from earlier, Violet. Violet, this is Sir Crocodile.”

Tired eyes slid from the king to the weary officer, who offered nothing but a forced, polite smirk. He was introduced to the entire Family earlier, but clearly this was Doflamingo’s attempt to get the two chatting, for whatever reason.

The older warlord chose his battles wisely. There was no reason to make pulling teeth any more painful. “I will say, I enjoyed the performance.”

“Thank you.” An automatic response. He noticed most of the food on her plate was sliced up and pushed around, but not eaten. Taking control where she could. He almost pitied her.

to whoever sent this (i have a hunch XD) i love you ♥♥♥ i'll try and post a variety of genres as sort of a "my favorite of each" kinda thing, and to keep my answers diverse. *shrug*

01746 is up first. my M-rated, canon-compliant, angsty biography of rosinante. 55 chapters and about 270k words so. she's a larger item. it's split in half, so chapters 1-28 cover his life in the marines, and chapters 29-55 cover his life undercover. so if one aspect of his life is more interesting, you don't have to read the whole fuckin thing. there's some romance with an oc but it's not crucial to the story.

all bark and no bite is probably my favorite fluffy modern au, packed with doggies, undercover operations and self-discovery. i think it's pretty funny too. T-rated, 4 chapters, 14k words, crocorosi.

façade is my favorite darkfic i think? it's not horridly dark but like. it's a fucked up canon-compliant doviola oneshot so. it's certainly not loving or cheerful. T-rated and about 1,800 words because my heart couldn't handle making it any longer

the duties of a pool boy is another deceptively dark one. but! it's a modern au. crocorosi. it's my most recent work so maybe i'll fall out of love with it at some point but for now, i'm quite proud of it. oneshot, 6k words, M-rated. heed the warnings if you decide to investigate.

corazón de oro is my favorite gen fluffy/feel-good canon-compliant fic. sweet quiet moment with cora & law discussing the concepts of nightmares, love and loss. i cried while writing it and i almost cry rereading it sometimes. oneshot, 2,700 words, gen.

OP Rarepair Month 2023: Week Two ~ Soulmate AU

finally got week two's story for the OP Rarepair Month 2023 posted!! this one was a doozy. really hoping it came together nicely. i've never actually read a soulmate AU, so i thought it would be kind of fun to go in blind. a bit darker than my story for week one, so mind the tags.

Dressrosa was a country of life and sweet vibrancy. Fields of flowers and sugary, pastel walls. Blue skies stained the sea gold and scarlet before twilight shifted everything to a magnificent royal violet.

Scarlet. There were few things that left Viola burning like denial. She’d wake in the morning, sore from her performance the evening prior, dreaming of the cozy breakfasts she used to share with her sister after a vigorous night of dance. She made sure no one ever saw her weep. Weakness was not tolerated. The message was clear.

“You have nothing to be afraid of anymore, Violet.” Baby 5 tried to encourage her, “Now that you’re part of the Family, the Young Master will keep you safer than anything in the world.”

Maybe that was true for the loyal, upstanding, foolhardy or groomed members of the Family. She wondered if she looked like Corazón during dinners when she sat quietly with a cup of tea, observing, watching. Never speaking. She hoped her betrayal wouldn’t bring about her end, but Doflamingo wasn’t as powerful then as he was now. And she wasn’t nearly as important as his brother, anyway.

One foul move for her meant her head would roll, unlike his true officers, who he always extended forgiveness to. “Such is family.” He’d croon when mistakes were made, casting it aside with a warm grin to ensure his sincerity. Of all the things that burned more than denial, it was her hatred towards Doflamingo. Her desire to exact revenge, if not for her country, if not for her father, then for Scarlet. She’d gladly let him and his crew burn her alive if it meant that tyrant died at her hand. Such is family.

Scarlet skies and warm breezes. She’d paint with scarlet tonight, feel the warm breeze of his last breath.

a gift and a curse has some viola vs violet as well. not as much, but it's present! also rated T, doflamingo x viola. this one is a soulmate AU but not in a good way lmao

for rosinante...

blood gone sour is a bit dark, (although so is doviola) but it's my most recent take on the dq bros, and has a decent bit of corazon-mask-wearing from rosinante's pov. (and even sengoku's pov). rated T, no ships, just mind the warnings.

words cut deeper is almost like a softer version of the fic above XD basically it's a... what if corazon's mask broke? and rosinante broke free just for a minute and said what was really on his mind? gen across the board.

broken fingers hold tightest, broken hearts bleed brightest is an M-rated crocodile x rosinante fic that spirals into a rosinante vs corazon identity crisis at the very end. mind the tags on that one too.

if you're willing to read a MASSIVE multichap, i do quite a bit of identity crises in 01746, but that story is chonky. M-rated rosinante x OC backstory fic. you could start at chapter 29 when he first takes on the corazon codename. a lot of chapters work well standalone in that fic too, so if you're really dying for the trope, i'd recommend chapters 32, 35, 39, and 44 XD

i am in LOVE with this trope and it almost bleeds into anything slightly canon i write with these characters. i do hope to do more with viola soon so this list can grow.

found this cool website that i’ve been using to compare heights of different op characters for visualization purposes. here are the fruits of my labor. the results may shock you.

first off, bell-mere, arlong, and rosinante. that’s why i found this website, actually. i was planning something for my corabelle lives au and thought arlong looked too tall in the anime. if this website is accurate, he was indeed gigantified for the purpose of drama.

next, bell-mere, sora (an oc), and rosinante. did this one for another wip i’m working on. you really wouldn’t think bell-mere cracks 6ft tall but. well. i guess that’s one piece.

next are the main marine characters from my fic, 01746. so, tsuru, sora (oc), sengoku, and rosinante. for some reason i thought rosi was much taller than sengoku but apparently not! or at least, not by much.

last but certainly not least… this… disturbing image. idk if i’ll be able to write doviola anymore folks 🥲

hyping my own wips for a second (or a huge ramble) because i've got a mad inspiration high but no energy to actually do anything with it

getting QUITE excited to start working on stories for the bthb bingo. i've got some WICKED plans for the "missing and presumed dead" prompt, starring bell-mere in my everlasting goal to write her as this gritty, smart-mouthed, bloody-knuckled, badass bitch. she's gonna be an eye-opening mentor for hina, and i'll get to lay into those "feminism in the marines" themes i played with in the sorabelle fic.

AND THEN. oh boy. there is another horrid doviola story on the horizon for this event too. been a while since i've tackled them. extremely draining to keep them in character, respect the canon, and give them both (especially viola) agency.

i'll probably hit those prompts the next time i'm itching to write, and then... maybe go back to the corabelle epic? i wrote myself into a hole and i've been hiding from it like a coward. i keep getting little brainworms tho so i better let them loose before they eat my gray matter entirely.

oh. and i um. had a week off of work last week. entirely unexpected, so i finished an entire item on my wip list. not posting it anytime soon tho. look i know cringe culture is dead but this is especially cringe alright i'm gonna give it some time and post some good respectable stories before i start dropping this one. it's truly awful. but i had fun while writing it so! that's all that matters.

Yay! My mission is complete and I'm so glad you like it! And when you're training, your levels of adrenaline and dopamine are already high so, you know, it's just natural that they would end up all hot and bothered ;)

But I have to say - they are so hard to write and I struggle with the balance every single fic. I'm still not entirely sure about my views on Doffy (horrible actions but also horrible upbringing, how much is past trauma, etc) and then you have scenes like this..

..where he just straight up says he'll kill her because of her betrayal and seems to think it laughable that she expected him to have mercy, just because of their past (I, on the other hand, think she had some pretty self-destructive intentions here and didn't expect that at all - so what does that say about him, did he place so much value on their relationship that he thinks she should have expected mercy, or is it just a callback to Cora? If he could kill his own brother, then a woman, however cherished, isn't anything to hesitate over? Aaaaa. So many thoughts. My brain doesn't have room for them right now.)

Aaaaaand this became a stream of consciousness :D

I'll have to read up on some more dark/destructive love somewhere. Anyone have any suggestions for classics in that area?
