A lot of people seemed to like the design I did for Sidon and Mipha's buff mama, so I thought I'd add some things about her, and her relationship with Dorephan!

🌊 Her name was Solaile, which both follows the musical naming schemes of the Zora royal family (Do re, Mi fa, So la, Si do) and also is similar to the name Soleil in French, meaning the sun.

🌊 Dorephan married into her family and originally came from an oceanic Zora clan. You cannot look at that man's shapes and tell me he was originally built for land, he looks like he'd take one step and fall over. The name Dorephan is also one he adopted upon marrying into the family.

🌊 Queen Solaile was fearless and had a spitfire attitude, facing issues head on and even throwing herself into danger if it meant protecting her people. Where Dorephan is careful and calculated, she was proactive (and maybe a bit reckless). They balanced each other out extremely well. Dorephan misses that sense of balance she brought, and became even more cautious after she passed - esp over Mipha and Sidon.

All the unique Zora... or mostly unique as the black one from the right is Khira and her pallet swap is Chroma, but the files were still marked NPC and not UMii so yeah... unique Sidon head does not fit into the mask. the model has separate head model when he wears the mask that hides big portions of his head X"D (Also will he grow as large as Dorephan? there might be something about rulers of Zora that make them grow larger than typical Zora, as Muzu is still normal adult size and Dorephan? that's a big boy) Once again past champion is smaller that others. She is still a teen Zora then.

My headcanon is that Zora growth is different from Hylian. The proportions change for a time until some early teen years and then they just grow bigger. So Adult Mipha would look same as teen, but closer in hight to Chroma or Yona OH also YONA! She is older that Sidon right? Probably still younger that Mipha but still, older that Sidon... nice. (I like Yona, she is cute and they make nice pair with Sidon <3) One more thing. I like Dorephan costume so much more in TotK, but Sidon got sillier in TotK X"D

Big boy encounter

My obsession with ocean creatures is taking me over again so I need to draw them plus I would love to see more Zoras actually swimming idk it’s weird that they don’t really are in the water except in botw.

I also wouldn’t know how I would react if dorephan would be swimming by he’s giving me Megalophobia vibes lol.

I personally like his king outfit a little more so I used it for the picture.

Headcanon Sidon & Mipha's dad was a grumpy Zora in his youth. Eventually he mellowed out and the yellows in his fins started showing decades later~.

My idea is that Teba is alive, but the injury he suffered in the fight with Vah Medoh still bothers him, and he's "retired." Tulin is also the one who wanted to grow up to be a warrior on par with Revali, and Teba was raising him to be such a warrior. So, to me, it makes sense that Tulin is our buddy in TOTK.

Sidon wearing the crown... Dorephan could have passed away. He was pretty old already in BOTW (not that I know how long a Zora's lifespan is). Unless Sidon can take the throne before the previous king dies...?

Kass is probably traveling or staying in Rito Village now that he fulfilled his goals from BOTW.

Seeing people realize all the cute music stuff and naming in the English version of totk/botw with the zora makes me so happy so I'm gonna make a quick guide.

Mipha - Mi fa (first notes in her theme)

Sidon - Si (ti) do (ti do in his theme)

Dorephan - Do Re (he doesn't really have a theme but I hear a brief do re in the pristine sanctum theme)

Yona - Yonanuki scale (not sure if her theme is that scale)

Zora - sounds like So La

Ploymus - anagram of Olympus

what do you think has happened to King Dorephan between Botw and Totk? :0

I’ve seen l3aks and even that doesn’t give us answers rIP- Dorephan probably either:

Gets a lil redesign like the others and steps down to be General or advisor idk, mayb with a cool lil hat

We see or hear about him dying since we see Sidon in his usual prince gear to getting the crown :( mayb from protecting the domain from calamity 2.0

They both have a crown bc it’ll be funny if it’s not even a crown just a cool headpiece and they gave Sidon one too

More of the fish 'rents since everyone seems to enjoy them

I wanted to try drawing my take on Dorephan, but keep a lot of his canon shapes because I find them so unique and interesting! Being originally from an oceanic Zora clan far from shore, he isn't super equipped to live on the land 100% of the time. His fins and head-tail are much larger than the Zora in the Hyrule Domain, and his feet are more flipper like. He is FAR more equipped for swimming but he manages a life primarily on land, for love.

I'm still messing around with Solaile's design and I'm not sure if this will be it's final rendition. I like the idea of her having fins that resemble a big, regal cape, but will flare out almost like wings for extra expression (taking inspiration from the way Lulu's fins move in Majora's Mask). I also like the idea that royal Zora will just naturally grow bigger than their common counterparts, so even though she's short in comparison to Dorephan, she's still BIG.
