ooooh my gods okay look i have nothing against the old dollieguts art style but recently the dollkin angelkin yamikawaii etc tags have been flooded with people who are just using that art style and its just ...

as an artist ? inspiration is okay but please make it your own , its so obvious that youre trying to perfectly recreate the old look and i dont even think that artist would want that from what i know

and as a nonhuman ? STAY OUT OF THE TAGS ? PLEASE ?? i know thats the feel you want for your art but thats not how its being seen . ive seen a few posts about this too so i know im not the only one whos upset by this ..... the " creepy cute " tags and things similar to that are more your thing with this kind of art if thats really what you want . angelkin and dollkin etc have very specific vibes and its largely not anything similar to the art youre posting , and its only starting to bother us ..... for your sake and ours , please leave the tags

and just as someone being picky and a bit rude ? tagspamming is against tos . you really need to look into the tags and the culture around them before using them because if you use them wrong people arent gonna be happy . and i know tumblr has a really pessimistic userbase and i dont want anyone getting bullied or harrassed for trying to show their art

I will never forgive the art community for victim blaming dollieguts/dreamalgia and bombarding them with hate for making "pRoBLemAtiC aRT" whilst they were being abused by Bailey, who was also preying on minors at the time and the entire community actively went "ok but dollieguts though" or even went as far as to blame them for Bailey's actions and it wasn't until ponder sprocket that everyone realised that there was some bullshit going on

honestly i haven’t thought of them in like. several years but seeing their tweet about how all the drama surrounding them was because they were just mentally ill and expressed that in a way people didn’t like, made me do a double take. because i have an excellent memory when it comes to shitty people so i knew with all my heart that they were lying.

honestly i don’t really care if all this happened years and years ago because 1. time doesn’t undo the actions of the abuser and 2. they’re not even expressing any sense of remorse or acknowledging they did anything wrong. if they were trying to become a better person, then maybe i would be more open to the idea of them changing, but abusers lie!!! abusers always say they’re gonna change and then continue to do the exact same shit!!! and that’s exactly what they did!!! all while having the gall to pretend they’re the fucking victim. pathetic.

Only one of those looks remotely the same i feel like I'm reliving the fucking dollieguts/chimerama drama again

I can see there's clearly inspiration. The issue there is inspiration isn't a crime. There's other things you can also compare it to, like some methods of sigils from witches and/or wiccans. The "loko" also looks like the snake/staff medical symbol (loko in quotes because im not referring to the real symbol). The Santa Muerte esque symbol is also just such a reach its genuinely laughable. The kalfou inspired symbol looks like a clock.

Also.. Alastor is Creole. This may well be part of his culture as a character. Although I don't agree with the demonization of religious practices, and I believe they should have research put into their meanings before being used, but I think willfully ignoring that aspect is actively trying to leave out any aspect of the controversy that makes it look not as bad.

And the most important point,

Is anyone calling this out actually part of said culture? Is anyone pointing it out Haitian, creole, or practices voodoo? Because from what I've seen, I haven't seen a single person mad about this who is.

If there were people actually part of the culture who were angry about this, I'd consider it. Because they'd obviously know more than I do, from experience. I can only look at this from a design perspective, and I am not going to hide that. I just find it odd how these types of issues (cultural symbols being used for spooky points, especially voodoo) are widespread across the whole film/TV industry, but people are only angry about it when an indie creator like Viv does it. It feels more like a savior complex than actual criticism.

But again, feel free to point it out if I'm wrong! So long as you aren't a dick about it and are giving actual reasoning, I'm happy to listen.
