An entire beach for dogs?! Say less!

We spent all afternoon through sunset at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach yesterday, getting in lots of playtime and fetch.

We came with one ball but left with a different one, a lesson in how nothing is really ‘ours’ the way that we like to think of it, how there is more than enough in the world, and how the universe will always provide.

We also got lots of opportunities to socialize with new dogs, all sizes and breeds and ages and temperaments, a reminder that we are not the only dog on the beach, that love it or hate it, life is a shared experience, and that if there are dogs out there that you don’t like then there are probably dogs out there that don’t like you, so be kind.

No, seriously. Be kind.

And we pondered the depths of the ocean, the ebb and flow of the waves, and the setting of the sun — and how we occupy a single note in a symphony that began long before we got here and will continue long after we are gone, so to be respectful of the planet we were given and honor the time we have while we have it.

And then we took a dump in the sand.

Beach babe. That’s Luna for ya.

Yesterday was forest day for Luna and she wasted no time finding her happy place, the most notable of which was this giant log that spanned a creek bed, which she couldn’t get enough of. Not only was it a great vantage point over the ravine for our little lumberjack but it was warm with sunlight and broad enough to lay on comfortably. This was the highlight of our hike through The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park. Tree hugger. Y’all. Humans are exhausting.

This is my entry for the @pawsforgold Olympic Lounging event, but let me tell you how I ended up here.

This weekend I went camping with my human, @theblondpanda, and @cloud_monger.

First we went out to Angeles National Forest but when we got there we found out it was on fire so we had to head back and make alternate plans.

It worked out okay because we found a great campsite at the last minute but the humans decided to make it a road trip up the coast with stops at Seaside Cliff and Morro Rock.

Eventually we arrived at our site and got to relax at the campsite after setting up all the tents. My human got me the @ruffwear tethering system so that I could safely roam our site.

Today we went hiking in San Simeon and I kept going off trail climbing cliffs like a pro. I’m basically fearless now.

After hiking I spent some time at a winery before doing some beach digging. Normally I just dig for treasures, but this time I made myself a nice little hole to lounge in by the ocean.

After watching the eclipse the other night Luna and I made our way to Pfeiffer Beach to catch some Zz’s. It was cold (43° F) and windy but it was also super peaceful - we had the whole beach to ourselves for most of the morning). I’m not saying I haven’t had better sleep but I certainly haven’t had more picturesque sleep. I had to drive from Monterey down toward Big Sur to get away from the notorious clouds and fog and be able to see the eclipse the other night. I didn’t get anything spectacular as I was shooting with my phone. I was mostly documenting for posterity.
