If at first you don’t succeed….Duck Dodgers pitch cover - This second attempt to sell Duck Dodgers as a television show in Oct. 1998, had Lola Bunny joining the crew, Sparky being reduced to a smaller role with Dodgers’ rival Star Johnson. John P. McCann was in charge of revamping this version of the show. He asked me and Tony Cervone to adapt the artwork to reflect this new direction.

Okey. Eso es todo, amigos UwU

What really grabs me about The Artful Dodger after bingeing three episodes is its energy and inventiveness and how historical it actually feels. Not in terms of the literal historical accuracy (if we can ever be good judges of that) but the feel. It felt somewhat Dickensian in its focus on social hypocrisy, the underbelly of life and unexpected satire and humour. Mostly, it actually felt 18th rather than 19th century to me. There is a vigour and earthiness I love about 18th century fiction that rarely gets translated to screen and which I could find here in its joyful and irreverant attitudes to religion, sex, social class, death and bodily functions. In this way it feels like it nails a kind of historical "feel" much better than any period drama I've seen in a very long time.
It actually reminds me a lot of Fielding's Tom Jones. Likeable, often misunderstood rogue of a hero. Love interest in an independently thinking higher class lady stifled by parental expectations. Farcical scenes involving sex, money, violence, religion, hypocrisy and presented wrily and satirically through a large cast of largely ridiculous characters/caricatures.
Funnily enough, I started watching the recent Tom Jones adaptation and found it rather boring. I've only watched the first episode. Perhaps it picks up later - I'll have to come back to it again. But I felt it spent far too much time giving explanations for why Sophia is black and That Is Historically Fine Actually and being sentimental over her and Tom to have any energy or the vigorous, cracky humour of the original novel. Whereas Jack and Belle in The Artful Dodger are absolutely insane and they are doing nothing romantic whatsoever so of course we believe in their romance. Period drama adaptors could learn a lot here.

I had a HUGE crush on Tyler Seguin back then, went away but I’m pretty sure I still am.

Obviously I’m a Kings fan and back then I like Chicago Blackhawks but not anymore. I still like Tampa Bay Lightning though.

That time when I had the perfect NHL bracket that I almost won but Carolina ruin it for me.
Anyways, I thought I would share some of my hockey tweets and how much I’ve been crushing on Tyler Seguin.

Duckvember - Futuristic Duck (Ducks)
I drew two drawings related to the same topic. And where better to find Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century related to that topic. The first drawing is a redraw of a scene from a classic 1953 short called "Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century" directed by Chuck Jones, where Daffy Duck and Marvin the Martian clash over a planet called Planet Z. Drawn a little differently plus added Space Cadet who is Duck Dodgers sidekick and yes it is Porky Pig.
The second drawing is related to Tiny Toons Adventures and the episode called "Return to the Acme Acres Zone" and related to the segment "Duck Dodgers Jr" where Plucky Duck, Daffy Duck's student learns from his teacher how to be a great superhero. They both go to the planet Mars and clash with Marvin the Martian and Marcia the Martian (Marvin's student and niece). Marvin gives his niece a game cube. Who do you think will win Earth (Daffy, Plucky and Porky) or Mars (Marvin and Marcia)? Both are related to the future. Yes, a small mistake with the background of the second drawing, painted the background of both the planet and the sky in orange, although this is usual for Mars. I hope you like these drawings.

This August 3rd-9th, 2002 TV Guide cover featuring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig as Duck Dodgers and The Eager Young Space Cadet, paired with the Powerpuff Girls, was one of four covers with fun cartoon mashups, celebrating the 50 greatest cartoon characters. Tony Cervone and I provided the art for Daffy and Porky, Darren Hunt and Kevin Mackenzie are credited for the Powerpuff Girls art. For the record, Daffy ranked 14th, Porky finished 47th. (Surprise, Bugs Bunny #1)

not to make another post about this but actually it seems like @ninetimesbluedemo, @mobanjaree, and @sunflowerrboyy are all right in regards to the davy draft scandal??
at least according to an article on the cool cherry cream website davy did file for draft exemption because of his being the sole supporter of his family, but then another article claims that in later years davy admitted to also losing weight to ensure he wasn’t drafted which worked because he was deemed unfit??? i’m really not sure which is more truthful, so if any of you have other sources i’d love to read them!!!

The Best Australian and New Zealand Cinema in 2023
This year, with the slight shift in how we format the awards, we added in a touch more flexibility. While that is mainly in the backend, I did want to take the opportunity to expand one of the awards we covered during this period. It was a fantastic year for Australian and New Zealand Cinema, with each film I saw knocking it out of the park. There were intimate documentaries, films that held up a…
