I said I'd elaborate a little bit and basically, all I wanted to say is they're both emotional walls in their own way! In a way this meme captures pretty darn well too, to boot! 😆

I've actually brought this up before, but it's worth repeating again here: Sal's emotional walls are almost a bit deceptive. You've got the smile and warm presence - things that make her feel more approachable than she actually is (maybe.) And befriending her is easy enough (kind of!) But when you try to get any closer, that's when you'll see the walls start to appear. (Totally part of the star motif as well, by the way: warm, but distant.) 🌟

I... could elaborate even further! But I don't want to slam everyone with a novel on emotional Sal walls today, so... 🫠 (Plus, given that I'm throwing her out there in RP, story and art form more than I ever have nowadays, to experience the character and learn about her that way vs. me just talking about her in excess might be more fun too!)

Long story short: like you already mentioned with her nature (which this kind of touches on that) the struggles are going to be real in some areas and it's bound to be pretty darn fun to write/plot/brainstorm/whatever and see how they react in this regard too. Slow burn + emotional wall combo meal, let's go. 💕

It can't POSSIBLY be the case that even when disconnected from his base 3H character, Hopes!Claude is chock-full of contradictions in his characterization between his Part 1 and Part 2 iterations. And it DEFINITELY can't POSSIBLY be meaningful in any way that damn near ALL of the people that insist that Hopes!Claude is either completely congruent with 3H!Claude or is what 3H!Claude SHOULD have been... all either prefer Edelgard or ship Edel///claude (the ship which can be overwhelmingly condensed down to "Claude doing whatever it is Edelgard wants without having any character of his own" and oh, would you look at what he does in Hopes, oh gee must be a coincidence that they all lap that shit up).

Nope, Claude fans who prefer Claude as their fave lord? Secretly never liked him! It's totally US who have a fanon version of Claude we like over the canon version, and definitely not the ones who like him doing shit and saying shit and believing shit that runs diametrically opposed to literally everything he stands for in 3H ("the Kingdom threw us to the wolves first 300 years ago" yeah THAT isn't fanon Claude, nope). Claude fans who don't wholeheartedly accept that Hopes!Claude is either who Claude was all along or is otherwise 100% in-line with his 3H counterpart never liked him at all.

And don't even bring up people who like Claude but prefer Dimitri lmao.

It's just this weird habit of fandom I'm seeing nowadays, where if you don't accept the writing as perfect and if you point out blatant inconsistencies then OBVIOUSLY you either were never a fan or you just "don't understand man." It can't ever be the writers at fault for writing something bad anymore, it's always the fans who are lacking something to be able to "appreciate" what's given to them. Just look at how any and everyone who criticizes Edelgard is automatically deemed a hater of her. There's a mutual of mine who literally buys merch of Edelgard, buys zines of Edelgard, and will readily have Edelgard in their Top 5 favorite 3H characters, and even they get accused of hating her just because they have the gall to... point out that Edelgard has very noticeable flaws, both as a character and in her writing.

That's basically what I'm seeing happen with Hopes!Claude. You criticize him? You're making discourse, you aren't a fan of him, you're a hypocrite in some way, you never understood him. His fans - much like Edelgard's, oh wow would you look at that hmm must be a complete coincidence again - make it so fuckin' hard to like him, even if you do genuinely like Hopes!Claude. If you like him as the bad guy he very clearly is because he is making very clearly villainous actions? Nope, you're not liking him the right way. If you like him in concept but feel his execution was lacking? Nope, you're not liking him the right way. Just like with Edelgard, you have to like Hopes!Claude in a very specific way or you will be called a hater of some kind. And that attitude just isn't conducive to a welcoming fandom environment

Out of curiosity I ordered some Copics to try out. Couldn't find a good starter set at my local art supply store, so I went to Amazon and got a beginner set imported from Japan. The reviews were good on it, they said its got everything you need to start illustrating but I took the advice from a person on YouTube who recommended a few more colors to supplement the kit. It should be arriving in a week or so. I've never used alcohol markers before, so I'm a bit nervous, my only exposure to markers is Sharpies.

I also ordered other cute merch, but I'll leave that as a surprise. Those will be arriving in two weeks, just in time, as the date for my vacation has been moved to July, since my brother did not have enough PTO for this month, and they need him to help with the telescopes for the observatory in Sunspot, especially since there will be a solar eclipse this year. As usual, they're collaborating with the Hawaiian labs. I went to the partial eclipse some time ago and it was fun.

I'm really hyped about this summer. Can't wait to hit Universal and some of the usual nature spots around SoCal, and my mom can't wait to go shopping. I mean, I don't mind that either, but she does this for hours. When I use to live with her, we went out every weekend, from 10am to 9pm, straight shopping and dining. I'm told it's a cultural thing for her since she was young. It's no different on vacation, and it's over multiple days.

In a mere week and a half, I’ll be walking The High Line with earbuds in my ears, listening to Taylor Swift sing, “Your heartbeat on The High Line, once in twenty lifetimes...” a few hours before seeing her speak live.

I don’t regret spending a stupid amount of money to go to NYC for the weekend. I think I’ll enjoy it. I have missed seeing Taylor live so much, and I was so bummed that LoverFest got cancelled because I had SUCH a good seat at the Boston one and I was going to go with Anna in LA, which would have been really fun. 

Is it sad that I worry Taylor might actually see me (since the venue is so small) and think I’m hideous? I suppose she’s the queen of learning not to care what others think of you, and I don’t know why her opinion matters to me so much -- but it does. 

I’m probably worrying for nothing. It’s unlikely she’ll see me or even give me a second glance/thought, much less waste time thinking about how ugly I am.
