Genya is having a weird night. Poor dude I feel so bad he's so confused.
He just met the two weirdest siblings ever. Like both of them are super nice and haven't asked a single question about his situation. One of them is this demon girl who doesn't speak. The other thinks you guys are friends. Finally the demon he's supposed to fight is the size of his foot.
(Love nezukos face she's like hey how's it goin?)

ALBUM REVIEW (#22)
Tumblr media
demonslayer — Meltycanon
NOT MUCH TO SAY. I LISTENED TO THIS YESTERDAY JAN 31, 2023 AFTER LISTENING TO THE OTHER MELTYCANON ALBUM. THIS IS MUCH MORE LIKE ABG/ABB CHILL UWU EBOY CORE LIKE THIS IS THE “SHY” VERSION OF THE RAVE ASIANS. IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN IT. IT WAS FINE. IT WAS GOOD STUDY MUSIC AND I LIKED THE REMIX OF A SUMMER’S DAY AND I THINK AN ADELE SONG? I FORGET THOUGH. I WOULDN’T BE SURPRISED IF I’M REALLY WRONG ON THAT ONE. YEAH. NO MORE MELTYCANON FOR ME.

I have been looking forward to this read ever since A Soul to Keep released on Kindle Unlimited.
And so I tried my best to go blind into this story to temper my expectations. As such, I ran into both off-putting and pleasant surprises.
Like all of my reviews, this will contain spoilers, but I try to keep them to a minimum.
The story starts right away when we meet Delora as she’s being thrown over a cliff, tied and gagged, into the Veil.
In a fit of rage, she stabbed her husband and his mistress to death when she found them in bed together. A perfectly reasonable response. But the mayor disagrees and has her left to die.
Luckily for Delora, her fall is stopped by the fox-skull Mavka that Reyne introduced in book 1. The duskwalker, once his spine reforms, decides to take the little human in and heal her; hoping that she might agree to be his bride or a quick snack. He’s not particular. To his surprise, she agrees to give him her soul, and thus, their story begins.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book was how it treated depression and trauma. As someone with depression, it was refreshing to read a character you could relate to; one who makes reckless decisions not because they are the main character and they have to move the story along, but because she could care less whether she lives or dies.
Magnar, as Delora names him, vows that he will heal her emotional scars and sets out to woo her.
I liked the change of pace in this story as well as the fun action scenes. Magnar is adorable and he tries so hard to please his bride. However, this is a sloooow burn.
Like I said in my last review, I am not a fan of Reyne’s writing style. It’s like running into a brick wall. But I found that I could ignore the writing in favor of the story.
Now to the offputting surprise, right after Magnar and Delora have sex for the very first time, spoilers, she gets pregnant.
I know, I know, the pregnancy trope is not popular and I am not a huge fan of it either. Nor am I a fan of when having a baby is the key to the healing process of someone’s emotional turmoil. Especially not when it happens 35% into the story.
Maybe that is why I had to drag myself through the last half of the book, or maybe it’s because Delora all of a sudden had a 180 character change. Depressed Delora turned into micromanaging, selfish Delora and it’s so far removed from how she is written in the beginning. One of the things I liked about the first book was that Rhea deviated from the traditional female lead with perfect morals to this morally grey, sword wielding badass. Delora is nothing like that. Despite murdering two people in the beginning of the story, she has issue with Magnar eating demonslayers that attacked them. Make it make sense. And this translates to the way she treats her baby. She throws a fit when they eat anything because it means they will get bigger. Miss girl, you know what a duskwalker is, you know they have to eat constantly to develop physically and that they need to consume humans to gain humanity, and yet she actively stunted the kid’s growth by refusing to let them be what their nature demanded.
Little things like that at the end of the book just really killed it for me. There are more that I could bring up, but I’ll leave it up to you to read.
But the spicy scenes can redeem anything. I enjoyed those quite a lot.
All in all, I’d give this book 3 out of 5 stars. Entertaining, but I really think that Reyne needed an editor to catch the multitudes of grammatical errors and fix some poor character writing. Will I read her next book? Yes, but with some apprehension. She has promised that this one will be much different than the first two, so here’s hoping!

Mysteries of Thorn Manor - Margaret Rogerson
Tumblr media
Read: 07/01/2023 - 12/01/2023
Rating: 5/5
Rep: disabled bisexual love interest who walks with a cane, aroace side character
CW: death of family members (in backstory), grief
This review will contain light spoilers for Sorcery of Thorns
I was super excited to see the Sorcery of Thorns trio again, and this novella didn’t disappoint in the slightest! These are some of my favourite characters (from one of my favourite books) and by the end of Sorcery it was incredibly clear that, regardless of romance, this is a trio and they all love each other deeply. This is carried over into this novella in the best possible way. Elisabeth, Nathaniel, and Silas are all given opportunities to shine and all of their relationships with each other are given their time in the spotlight. Rogerson incorporates all this through a relatively lighthearted plot masterfully, and despite the novella’s short length nothing ever felt rushed.
The new addition to the Thorn household, Mercy, didn’t feel like she was intruding at all. She’s not as close to any of them as they are with each other, but Elisabeth is firmly happy to have her around and she fits into the group seamlessly. Silas’ interactions with or about her were also highly entertaining. He makes no secret of how he’d prefer to work alone, but he simply has no say in the matter.
The main plot of this novella is the manor effectively coming to life and trapping the four occupants inside until they can figure out how to make the manor calm down. This led to many humourous moments, some action, and some exploration into the history of both the Thorn family and the manor itself. I really enjoyed learning more about the magic and history of magic in this world! There’s also plenty of romantic moments, which may or may not have a connection to the magic keeping them trapped.
We also learn a bit more about Nathaniel’s immediate family in this book. In Sorcery we learned that his mother and brother had died, and his father had been killed by Silas at some point after this while Nathaniel was still a child. In this novella we learn more about what exactly happened and also what Nathaniel’s family was like before everything went wrong. This is, ultimately, a lighthearted novella, but Rogerson also found room within it to deal with this heavy topic in a way that didn’t feel unnatural or shoehorned in and that didn’t subtract from the overall story.
In what is surely a very popular opinion, Silas is my favourite character in this book/series, and this novella provides extra insight into him as a character which is nothing short of a delight to me! Something in particular that this novella addresses about Silas is how long lived he is. He’s served and made deals with members of the Thorn family for countless generations and there’s no way that Nathaniel and Elisabeth are the first people he’s truly loved. He’s lost a lot of people, and one day he’ll lose Nathaniel and Elisabeth as well. His grief for those he’s lost, and his sort of anticipatory grief for the people he’s yet to lose, is probably more present than he’d like to let on, but he doesn’t let this cast a shadow on the life he and people he loves are leading right now. He’s the source of many moments that had me smiling and even laughing, and my love for him has only grown through reading this.
Also Elisabeth seems to carry Demonslayer around with her almost everywhere she goes, and I simply think that more characters should have emotional support swords like she does. Truly iconic of her.
If you enjoyed Sorcery of Thorns, you don’t want to miss this sweet and thoughtful follow up!
Thank you to NetGalley, Margaret K. McElderry Books, and Turn the Page Tours for providing me with an e-arc in return for an honest review. Thank you for having me on this tour!

@tashaxandra’s Anime Tarot combines two of my special interests in the most perfect way! Each of the major arcana and Court cards are assigned a specific anime character trope (see last slides for examples of the guide book), providing an explanation of the card, the card’s value, the assigned trope, and even a short list of example characters who fit said trope. What makes it really cool is that this is actually a great way to learn those cards, as anime character archetypes are very easy to understand. I’ll be using this deck’s guidebook a lot when I start addressing tarot in the Yancy Street podcast, staring up again this week! . Also be sure to check out my YouTube channel, linked in my bio, as I’m finally getting around to uploading a bunch of figure review videos from the end of 2022! 😬 . . . #anime #tarot #manga #oracle #sailormoon #demonslayer #shfiguarts #dragonball #spyxfamily #otaku #geekgirl #animegirl #weebtrash #usagitsukino #anyaforger #actionfigures #comicbooks #whenfandomscollide #metaphysical #oogabooga #goku #wotakoi #thegreatjahywillnotbedefeated #mydressupdarling #sailormooneternal #archetypes #giyuutomioka #kimetsunoyaiba #womenincomics #womenweebs https://www.instagram.com/p/CnNNwEuPgMJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Shadow of the Fox
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
This book has been on my to-read list for about a century and a half and I finally got around to reading it. BOY, AM I GLAD I DID!!!! I'm going to try to make this review as spoiler free as possible, but seeing as I have specific opinions on the ending, that may be a bit difficult. I'm just going to issue a spoiler warning for the entire review.
One of the things I absolutely loved about Shadow of the Fox was Kagawa's writing. Her descriptions, particularly the descriptions of the settings were so fucking fantastic that if I closed my eyes, I probably would've been able to trick myself into thinking I was in Iwagoto. Her descriptions of people were also brilliant, I just had a hard time imagining the clothes. I don't know much about what kimonos and other traditional Japanese clothing look like so I just kept imagining Yumeko in a hanbok (which is Korean and therefore from the wrong culture entirely).
The pacing of the book was also pretty nice. It started out with a bang, like, first chapter and there's already an army of demons. That was pretty nice because it really hooked me in and kept my attention through the next few chapters of exposition (you know, the part where the author sets up the plot and introduces the characters which is kinda necessary but also not terribly exciting). Then when the whole adventure started, it was pretty much one thing after another. It was a good mix of epic action scenes and scenes centered around dialogue.
Characters
Yumeko: I FUCKING LOVED Yumeko. Some of my favorite quotes in the entire book (I prefer funny quotes to profound ones) were made possible because Yumeko did not understand sarcasm. One of the things that I loved the most about Yumeko is that she didn't fall into the damsel in distress category (which would've been easy considering her lack of experience of life outside the temple) but she also didn't fall into the inexplicably a warrior category (you know, put the girl with absolutely no training against an enemy and suddenly she's got a black belt in Capoeira). She was able to hold her own and even save Kage Tatsumi (the infamous demonslayer) on occasion and she did that through things she had already mastered (her illusion magic, for example).
Kage Tatsumi: Ok, so, I must admit, I wasn't as fond of Tatsumi as literally everyone else who read this book but that's not because he's badly written or anything, it's because I rarely love the dark-past emotionally-constipated mysterious-badboy type characters. I did love his levels of badassery though. I guess I just wish we could've seen more personality although I suppose the whole point of his character is that he's not SUPPOSED to have a personality.
Okame: He was definitely the character I had the most fun reading about by far. Okame was hands down the funniest and I think he added a lightheartedness to the squad that was severely needed. I also always appreciate an archer. Personally, I think archery is cooler than swordplay. I also think his character as compared to Tatsumi brings up some interesting points. He's constantly talking about being an honorless Ronin as opposed to Tatsumi who is a Samurai and abides by the code of bushido but that begs the question of what honor really is.
Taiyo Daisuke: My favorite character!!! I swear, Kagawa created this man specifically to make me fall in love. I mean, a young nobleman (who's actually noble and not an asshole) with pretty features and long silver hair. Yes, please. Aside from the fact that he's totally my newest book boyfriend, I also think that Daisuke is the purest character in a way. He's the only character who's not either keeping secrets/decieving/misleading the other characters (Yumeko and Tatsumi) or in possession of questionable morals (Okame). Of course, that also makes me a bit anxious because he seems to0 good to be true
Reika: She may have come in a little close to the end, but I still consider her to be pretty important. Reika is another one of my favorite characters. She's a shrine maiden, not a warrior, so she's probably not embarking on many dangerous missions. Still, she does not hesitate to do extremely dangerous things to protect the shrine. Reika is the character I respect the most.
Lady Satomi: The big bad. I didn't have any huge opinions on Satomi and interestingly enough, I hated her more for abusing her waitstaff than for, you know, sending an army of demons to steal a magic scroll and attempting to kill the main characters multiple times. She was a worthy villain but there was nothing about her that really stood out to me
I said at the beginning of this review that I have opinions on the ending. I really loved that Tatsumi gets possessed by Hakaimono at the end because I was dreading the moment Tatsumi uncovered Yumeko's lies and carries through his orders to kill her but with Hakaimono possessing Tatsumi, that heartbreaking moment never actually happened. Yeah, I know that also means that one of the most dangerous demons Jigoku has to offer is now running around the mortal realm in the body of an elite warrior, but at least Yumeko and Tatsumi don't hate each other.
I do have a bone to pick with the epilogue, though. I feel like Lady Satomi's death should have been more dramatic. She does all this crazy evil badass magicy stuff but in the end, she's just stabbed in her bed chambers?! It's just a bit underwhelming. At the same time, though, I understand why Kagawa had her killed that way. She was too powerful to fight head on, so having a character sneak in and assassinate her was probably the best way to ensure that she died.

Stays Krunchy in Milk Episode 492: The Going Raw of Confections
Tee shares his Record Store Day adventures and how Taylor Swift fans won the day. This leads us to discussing how resellers are really ruining the collecting game. Speaking of collectables, Hasbro called out The Pinkertons on a guy who purchased some collectable cards. We discuss how “Seasoning Police” went from some internet nonsense to just straight up racism. Even though we won’t be reviewing Oreo on air anymore, we certainly have a great deal of experience with them so when an article shows up discussing the top Oreo flavor, team SKiM had to chime in. Ant shares some of his hot takes including him not being a fan of products that scream “all natural”, he also feels Judy Blume was ahead of the game and must be respected after watching the documentary about her. Box continues his health journey and is considering cutting off his hair for good. Tee tires of being the lone person of color at events. We then venture over to your favorite sub-Reddit for some AITA. And of course, we share our entertainment choices from the week with y’all.
Enjoy,
Team SKiM

Demon Slayer Season Two: An Anime Review
Season two of Demon Slayer was a wild ride. Here is a review written by @ThiatheBard #demonslayer #demonslayerreview
The relationships between people will always be important. Particularly for children. These interactions shape people into who they will become and how they will respond to situations. People are not only just shaped by verbal interactions, though. On this season of Demon Slayer we saw how neglect can shape a person as well.  Now before we go any further this is a review for season two. So if…
