Today is Tsao Chun, the Chinese Festival of the Kitchen God.

It is customary for women to stay out of the kitchen and ask whoever will take over the culinary and cleaning duties for today to ask the God's blessing by saying:

start early in the evening by lighting a bayberry candle and placing a small piece of citrine and a sprig of mugwort under your pillow.

before sleeping, put a notepad and pencil by the bed to write down your dreams

then ask Mother Night to aid you by chanting:

Driving East on US Highway 98 I saw this accident. Obviously the impact on the Traffic Signal Pole was at a high rate of speed and little or no braking before impact! When I saw it at 8:30am it was wrapped around the pole, it was hard to see that it was a car. The roof of the car was about 10’ from the ground at it’s farthest point. The front was literally wrapped around the pole. International Human Solidarity Day (IHSD), observed on December 20, is an international annual unity day of the United Nations and its member states. Its main goal is to recognize the universal value of solidarity by making member states aware of global objectives and initiatives to reduce poverty and to formulate and share poverty reduction strategies of independent nations around the world. IHSD is promoted by the World Solidarity Fund and United Nations Development Programme, which are focused on achieving goals set for worldwide poverty eradication. An individual can participate or celebrate the day either by contributing to education or helping the poor or physically or mentally disabled. Governments are instead encouraged to respond to poverty and other social barriers through the Sustainable Development Goals.

Trinity Health System Announces $15/hr. Minimum Wage

Market rate adjustment will be implemented by end of 2023 Trinity Health System is proud to announce that a $15 per hour minimum pay rate will be implemented by the end of calendar year 2023. “Trinity Health System employees have faced and met many unprecedented challenges, and continue to show up for our communities and each other,” Matt Grimshaw, President and CEO, Trinity Health System, said. “To continue meeting the needs of our communities, we must take the necessary steps to keep this ministry vibrant and strengthen the legacy that our founding women religious entrusted to us. “One critical and important step is continuing to ensure that our financial foundation is strong so we can sustain and grow our ministry and help close the gap between today and what's possible.” Over the last few months, Trinity Health System has been developing an aggressive recruitment campaign and retention strategy to build the best workforce in the Ohio Valley. “Theminimumpayrateadjustmentisanessentialinvestmentinourworkforce that will place the ministry in a position to compensate with regionally competitive rates,” Geno Taglione, Director of Human Resources, said. “The decision was determined through an evaluation of regional wages and in partnership with CommonSpirit Health.” Two-Step Implementation Process The minimum pay rate adjustment will be a two-step implementation process. Steponewill be to implement a $14 per hour minimum pay rate for all impacted employees effective April 16, 2023 (May 5, 2023, pay date). Steptwowill be implemented on December 24, 2023, which will increase the minimum pay rate to $15 per hour (January 12, 2024, pay date) for all impacted employees. “TheadjustmentofaminimumpayratemeansthatTrinityHealthSystemwillnot compensate an hourly rate less than the designated minimum pay rate,” Taglione said. Pay Rate Change WIll Impact Hundreds of Employees The 2023 minimum pay rate adjustment will impact several hundred employees in nearly 100 different positions throughout the ministry. “Positions with pay ranges less than the designated minimum pay rate will be adjusted to the new minimum pay rate,” Taglione explained. “Employees working in impacted positions will receive an adjustment to their base rate.” “Compression pay adjustments will be made,” he added. “This means all employees will receive a compensation adjustment if they work in a position whose pay range was adjusted due to the minimum pay rate increase.” Compensation adjustments were determined by the use of a regression analysis along with the development of new pay ranges and hiring grids. Minimum Pay Rate Compensation Adjustment Implementation Steps & Timeline Step 1: Implementation of a $14 / hour minimum rate – Effective April 16, 2023 - April10,2023:Meeting with Human Resources and leaders with impacted positions to review rate changes and communication with employees - April12,2023:Leaders with impacted employees will receive a spreadsheet detailing employee name, current pay rate, and increased pay rate - April16,2023: Effective Date of minimum pay rate adjustment - April13–18,2023:Leaders are to meet one on one with employees impacted by the minimum pay rate adjustment - May5,2023:Employees will see increased hourly pay rate on their May 5, 2023, paystub. Step 2: Implementation of $15 / hour minimum pay rate – Effective December 24, 2023 - December18,2023:Meeting with Human Resources and leaders with impacted positions to review rate changes and communication with employees - December 19, 2023: Leaders with impacted employees will receive a spreadsheet detailing employee name, current pay rate, and increased pay rate - December20–26,2023:Leaders are to meet one on one with employees impacted by the minimum pay rate adjustment - January12,2024:Employees will see increased hourly pay rate on their January 12, 2024 paystub “Notably, and according to recent studies, 2022 was the worst financial year for hospitals and health care systems since the beginning of COVID-19,” Grimshaw said. “Trinity Health System is not immune from these challenges, and it is expected that the financial strain and front line labor shortages within the healthcare industry will continue well into 2023.
