The First to Die at the End - Adam Silvera

I don't know why I thought this book would be any less devastating than They Both Die at the End, considering it's the prequel. News flash, it's just as devastating. This book follows Orion, who has a serious heart condition, and Valentino, who just moved across the country to start a new life. One of them becomes the very first Decker, and it's not Orion. These two decide to spend Valentino's End Day together, one where Valentino decides to donate his heart to Orion after his inevitable end. All I have to say is OUCH. Knowing the end of the story doesn't make it any easier to bear and as usual, Adam Silvera intertwines each and every character that gets their own POV, making all the more heartbreaking (no pun intended) in its conclusion. While it was amazing and I enjoyed it, read at your own risk because there will be tears at the end.

every so often i remember how much i hate they both die at the end and it consumes me for like an hour

#doesnt one boy die from exploding stove? #which is objectively kinda hilarious and also like why all this emotional buildup to such a lame death #the characters were shallow and annoying and i didnt like them #i stopped reading after rufus called mateo 'too good' bcus it made me cringe so hard i died #i dont remember any plot details and that says smth bcus i tend to remember those #the romance buildup was kinda lame and rushed like #ok ur teenage boys abt to die why dont they just fuck like thats accurate to teen boys #give me 2 teen boys who r attracted to each other n tell em its their last day alive. they dont wanna die virgins ill tell u #im so mad that theres now a PREQUEL thats basically the SAME STORY #with DIFFERENT GUYS (one of them w my name no less smh) in the SAME STORY #and it doesnt even promise to expand on the actual interesting aspects of the story #which is the worldbuilding #like how does deathcast know when ppl die and why do they call u #how abt exploring a culture where death is so prominent and in ur face where u know any day could feasibly be ur last #but no its jsut the same things w two new guys

THAT IOTS EDIT WAS AMAZING!!!!! THE LINES FROM NOCOPOP' DEATHCAST WITH YOUR PURE TALENT. You seriously made one of the nicest and sweetest characters in life, Bridgette, into on of the most terrifying if not THE most terrifying ghosts in the au(in my opinion).

OMG TYSM. Death cast is my favorite IOTS fanfic. They are so talented. So is the creator of the AU themselves. It took me a week to do Bridgette. I wanted to do something different. I didn't want it to end up like other Analog horrors that are based off shock value than the actual story.

in they both die at the end and the first to die at the end, its never said how they can predict deaths… so what if they cant? what if its not that if you’re going to die you get a call, but if you get a call, you’re going to die? like maybe its not that because you’re going to die they call you, but because they call you, you die

think abt it, if mateo didn’t receive the call, he wouldnt have told his neighbor to leave his stove alone, which means that he wouldnt have died because of the broken stove

if rufus didnt receive the call, we’d have one of 2 options: option 1, he’d be in jail, because in the book, the police couldnt be bothered to chase after a decker since there was little point. if he was in jail, he couldnt have been run over. option 2, he ended up somehow in the same position as he did when he died, but since he never met mateo, he wouldnt be sad about his death, which means he would probably look before crossing the street

in the same vein, if death cast didnt exist at all, then delilah (victor’s ex-fiancee) wouldnt have received a call and wouldnt have asked victor about it, meaning that victor wouldnt even be driving towards her anyway. since it is heavily implied that victor (rufus’s death cast herald) was the one who hit rufus, rufus wouldnt have died if death cast didnt exist.

similarly, in tftdate, if rolando didnt work at deathcast briefly, it wouldnt have given him the initiative to tell gloria to follow her heart, and she wouldnt have asked for a divorce with frankie - in this situation the fight wouldnt have happened and valentino would still be alive and if valentino didn’t receive the call, he wouldnt have offered to give his heart to orion and might still have a chance of being saved (which is dodgy but hear me out)

if the pilot of the plane scarlett was supposed to be on didnt receive a call from death case he wouldnt have been so anxious and scared and experiencing such intense emotions that he got a heart attack

which means, scarlett would have been in ny with valentino and they would have been doing something together and it wouldnt have created any of the circumstances that there were for the deckers of that day to die.

i think something that needs to exist are DeathCast aus. there's so much potential

you want angst? that one's easy. go full on The First to Die at the End, and only one half of the pair recieves the alert. the other has to watch them die

you want fluff? take a LifeCast approach. today is the day that character a gets reincarnated, and character b would not miss it for the world

hurt/comfort? DeathCast was wrong, and the character lives to see another day. or, character a dies and character b is comforted by a's loved ones

whump? well. you get to choose the death, don't you? better yet, a character who didn't get the alert is the injured one
