I didn’t like how this one turned out and meant to redraw for a while, but I still haven’t and I’m reorganizing my files, so might as well hit the big notes (for Earths 0 and 10/X):
Hans Von Hammer aka Enemy Ace was a WWI German pilot who flew again in WWII, but abandoned the war effort after learning of Hitler’s Final Solution. His granddaughter, Ilsa, became a member of Batman Inc. as Leatherwing. On Earth-X, Hans was rendered immortal by [redacted] and continues his war against his own country, particularly his grandon, that Earth’s Leatherwing. He has a pet wolf.
Del Van Dyne was a millionaire who formed a personal suicide squad called the Death Patrol. The group unsurprisingly had a high mortality rate, though the unexplained reappearance of several members after their deaths suggests Van Dyne was either faking reports to make the Patrol’s adventures sound more exciting, or making use of any number of uncontrolled super-science to bring his deceased compatriots back to life and back to work. His Earth-X counterpart also founded a Death Patrol, but they function as their Earth’s Doom Patrol.
Death Mayhew was a British lord and pilot, leader of the White Lions, as well as a Nazi Sympathizer who later defected and joined Germany itself. On Earth-0, he died in a dogfight with the Blackhawks and is rarely remembered today. On Earth-X, he lived into the 21st century, training an entire fleet of White Lion pilots to assist the New Reichsmen (colloquially known as the “JLAxis”) and generally maintain Germany’s tenuous “global” regime even as Overman’s abandonment of Earth and his cybernetic replacement’s descent into madness was tearing the regime apart.
Finally, Blackhawk himself is a cryptic figure who’s real name and origins remain unclear. Popular understanding built the Blackhawk mythos around Polish pilot and stuntman Janos Prohaska. As such, while Janos (simply referred to as “Blackhawk” in contemporary publications) is rendered more like film star or Superman than he actually appeared, he avoided the broadly stereotypical and offensive portrayals given to his fellow pilots. The worst hit with this was the true Blackhawk, a brilliant young Chinese pilot who seemed to excel at anything he tried. There is some speculation he may have been another Century Baby (or that he was a recorded one, namely Hark) but without even a confirmed name, Blackhawk’s origins are a mystery. More mysterious yet is Blackhawk’s reappearance in the modern-day, seemingly unaged, living under the name Wu Cheng.
On Earth-X, the Blackhawk does not exist and is not to be spoken of. There is not and never has been a seemingly immortal warrior who soars across the sky on wings of living darkness. Were such a man to exist, the Emperor’s Holy Wind Dragon would have destroyed him long ago...

I'm aware that some of these choices are, for want of a better phrase, pretty basic, but if y'all have recommendations I'd be happy to take them

Soo there's a possibility my brain just made this up,(been a while since I read dotc anyways) but, I feel like I remember a whole thing with Clearsky where one of his cats, I don't remember the name, ends up with an awful festering wound and Clearsky pointedly does nothing about it and even like exiles that guy? Just in case you needed more fuel for the very deserved Clearsky hate pile. If I did completely mind fabricate it sorry-- I remember it really standing out as just cruel and awful as a younger person reading the book
Yeah that's Frost, this is in Book 2: Thunder Rising. Clear Sky also shoves his son's face in that reeking, festering wound and tells him to lick it if he cares so much.
But it's actually worse than just that lmao.
Frost is notably loyal in Thunder Rising, even shouting out how amazing Clear Sky is when he weeps his crocodile tears in front of a crowd early on. Everything that follows is his reward for that support.
Clear Sky beats Bumble to death and one part of his incredibly obvious lie is that he left her a second time, after she had been mauled by a fox AFTER he lightly tapped her and she passed out, to go get "help." But Frost has gone completely untreated for weeks because proto-SkyClan doesn't have a medic. So there's no way he could have gone to get help.
The Infected Wound Face Shoving Scene is actually part of Clear Sky playing an abuse game with his son because he's pissed off that Thunder questioned him.
He's in an especially bad mood because he'd just beaten Bumble to death and only Gray Wing believed his bafflingly stupid lie, and this is 3 days after he slaughtered Misty for her land and tried to kill her children too. Thunder set him off by saying "dad can we kill less natives maybe?"
Frost is also publicly humiliated before the exile, Clear Sky commands him to flash his weeping wound at a crowd as he bellows out a speech about filth, weakness, and spreading disease.
He DIRECTLY commands Thunder to be the one to "LEAVE HIM WHERE THE MAGGOTS WILL FIND HIM" (verbatim quote) because. Again. It's an abusive game. He wants to feel like he's in control of his son.
Frost's life was just a piece in a game for Clear Sky. A pawn, discarded when no longer useful.
And then Frost dies in that big battle Clear Sky causes and started, and is buried in a mass grave along with all the other victims. Probably because if more of Clear Sky's victims survived, they would have to lobotomize MORE characters for his exoneration arc. Absolutely fucking miserable story.

man. you know what i fucking think about all the time? vex and vax and the deities that they become champions to. how even those gods reflect the entanglement that is their life, how vax steps in front of a goddess on his stalwart hope in the world and demands she choose him and how vex is so tentative, barely speaks up because she’s fighting against every instinct she’s learned that tells her not to hope that she could be worthy enough, certainly not to a god.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and the gods that choose them, the gods they choose? they’re both reflections of one another to each other. vax, whose championship arose out of his commitment to never leave his sister’s side? his god is the matron of ravens, a sad woman who dons a mask. a mortal who fought tooth and nail to arrive at the power she has. vex, whose championship arrives after her brother’s hope in the future and her future specifically has rubbed off on her and encouraged her own growth to believing? she is greeted with pelor, who stands strong and painfully bright, but she’s granted the gift to see through it to warm eyes and a bright smile. who affirms the hope that lives in her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and man, it’s even more extraordinary to me that the comparison between the given twin’s god and their sibling gets made by that sibling in scenes where they directly speak to the gods their twin has chosen. during vax’s resurrection ritual, vex bargains with the raven queen because she knows she’s someone who bargains like vex herself does, and she’s someone that values vax, maybe not quite as much as she does, but enough. and during vex’s trial, as the dawn father searches for his hope among the love for vex among vox machina, vax’s affirmation is that vex is his hope, so she should certainly be sufficient to be pelor’s.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and god the black death walker’s ward and the white dragon armour? vax’s wings and vex’s blessing? vax as a shroud of darkness visiting this plane, embracing the literally glowing shape of his sister on her wedding day? the poetry of vex and vax and pelor and the matron of ravens is enormous and so much of it is fucking. improv.

What is your favourite Doctor Who story?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TOURNAMENT MASTERPOST
synopses and propaganda under the cut
Blink
Synopsis
In an abandoned house, the Weeping Angels wait. The only hope to stop them is a young woman named Sally Sparrow and her friend Larry Nightingale. The only catch: the Weeping Angels can move in the blink of an eye. To defeat the ruthless enemy — with only a half of a conversation from the Tenth Doctor as help — the one rule is this: don't turn your back, don't look away and don't blink!
Propaganda no propaganda submitted
City of Death
Synopsis
While taking in the sights of Paris in 1979, the Fourth Doctor and Romana sense that someone is tampering with time. Who is the mysterious Count Scarlioni? Why does he seem to have counterparts scattered through time? And just how many copies of the Mona Lisa did Leonardo da Vinci paint?
Propaganda
even if your not a classic who fan, you have seen moments from this, “wonderful butler, he’s so violent”, “youre a beautiful woman, probably”, “if you wanted an omelette I’d expect to find a pile of broken crockery, a cooker in flames, and an unconscious chef”. The location shooting, iconic, the music, iconic, the plot, so iconic I was once watching something (non doctor who) that referenced it as a fake historical event. Dare I say duggan is the greatest side character of all time. Romana’s outfit, the design of scaroth, the implication time lords can fly. it’s not my favourite overall, but its damn near close, it deserves AT LEAST the semi finals, AT LEAST. If you’ve not seen it or any classic who, go watch it, its so good, one of the best of the era. Also, how could I forget, the most watched episode on broadcast out of all of doctor who, including new who. (yes it was because itv was off the air due to strikes, but im glad its this episode that holds the record) (anonymous)

I'm a NATLA defender now, tbh. I think more people will grow to appreciate its good parts more as time goes on. I'm of course waiting to see how they wrap everything up and I'm not immune to its flaws, but I think people are so blinded by everything not being The Exact Same as the original cartoon than they're not appreciating its good parts. It's an adaptation, a companion, it's not a replacement to the original.

Beyond all the drama
I have to say, It’s great to finally have choices as to what we as queer people can watch on tv right now.
You want horror, gory and violent? here’s Interview with the Vampire and American Horror Story: NYC.
You want campy teen horror? watch Chucky or First Kill (gone too soon...)
You want comedy or rom-com? well here’s What We Do In the Shadows and Our Flag Means Death.
You want teen drama? Young Royals, Heartstopper or Sex Education, if you want MESSY teen drama, here’s Euphoria or Elite.
You want superheros? Umbrella Academy or Doom Patrol is your fix
Etc... etc...
We still have long ways to go, but it’s a nice beginning.

I was listening to So Much (For) Stardust and accidentally had too many thoughts in one sitting so we have another AU concept. I don't have a solid name yet so I've just been calling Team Supernova AU.
Long story short:
Ghetsis freezes over Unova's major cities, taking most survivors hostage to join Team Plasma, and leaving several thousands dead from the frost
Emmet, Elesa, and others try fending off the Plasma Frigate in Nimbasa but ultimately lose with injuries (Emmet got frozen on his right side)
Emmet takes as many survivors as he can into the tunnels, later joining other groups to his and forming Team Supernova in resistance to Team Plasma
Ingo went missing about a year prior to all of this, so Emmet has already spent a lot of time alone. The only pokemon he has left is Ingo's Chandelure, as the rest did not survive the invasion. He's generally very cold and shut off emotionally as a result, and doesn't really express himself like he used to.
I'll drop more details later, right now the AU in early concept stages so it's essentially a bundle of "what would this be like" and "what if this happened" and "this could be cool". If I have time I'll drop some of the other uniform designs later. Anyways have a good night, see ya.

Our Flag Means Death being cancelled is another in a long line of Amazing TV shows that actually had great viewing numbers, social media presence, and talented casts cancelled by streaming services in their prime. [Shadow and Bone, A League of Their Own, Reservation Dogs, Doom Patrol, Inside Job, Ziwe, just to name a few]

When Thunder stays with Clear Sky for a while, does Clear ever insist on referring to him as Thunder Sky?
Towards the end yes, as the final detail to Thunder Storm that Clear Sky doesn't love him. He wants to ERASE him.
If Clear Sky recognizes he's made a mistake in casting Bright Storm away with their child, he's incapable of seeing it was wrong because it was cruel. He wants what he realizes he threw away, because he now sees it has value. He wants to own his oldest son the way he wants to own the entire forest-- as a reflection of his greatness.
Anything that makes Clear Sky uncomfortable about Thunder Storm has to be sanded down. The assertiveness was the first thing, he feels insecure when he's challenged, the child must learn to follow before he may learn to lead.
The second is that leg, presenting a prosthetic as a gift (that he isnt allowed to refuse), because he can't have been wrong about the choice that killed his younger brother-- here is a SOLUTION that simply didn't exist before! Behold how resourceful and wealthy his cats are, compared to your old group. We've fixed you.
(This prosthetic is a clunky piece of shit that is annoying to strap on every day, gets in the way and makes a ton of noise, and itches like hell, but the change in Clear's demeanor is immediate if Thunder doesn't wear it.)
But somehow, Thunder Storm was willing to take all of that. In hindsight, it bothers him that the tipping point wasn't the other two things.
Bright Storm gave her son her own last name. When Clear Sky sent them away and the Mountain Cats permanently split, it was pointed. "My only survivor is named for myself." SHE would raise him, alone.
Bright Storm herself slowly seemed to lose sight of the meaning, encouraging him to understand his father's good aspects, but in the meanwhile it took on a new meaning to Thunder. His mother raised him. He found a father in Shaded Flower. He grew up next to Lightning Cry and Acorn Swoop. Thunder Storm means this. It's the person he made himself, and the love they've all put into him.
Thunder SKY is just another monument to Clear Sky, stripping away the life he lived without him. And WHY? For ego? For comfort?
"What am I letting him DO to me?!"
It wasn't the final STRAW, but it was the tipping point. Once Thunder Storm had this realization, the minute he was not going to budge on something, that confrontation was inevitable. The blowout fight was making reservations.
Sunlit Frost is still the breaking point, the injury from his burn going sour, but I'm going to emphasize the way that Clear Sky only called that meeting in the first place as an abuse game. Thunder Storm knew it was coming-- but it still sickens him that it was something THIS monstrous.
