5th try at writing the guide on custom pet paint mode brushes, if tumblr manages to mess this one up i will have a fit

16/10/2023 Edited: Updated to add better hash ID generating practices.

Things you'll need:

Sims 4 Studio

GIMP

Notepad

Guide:

Tools that we will be using:

We'll begin by creating a new, empty package.

Save it somewhere convenient and easy to access.

Once you've saved the package, you'll be met with this screen:

From here, we'll go to Tools > Game File Cruiser

We'll be working with Pet Coat Brush files and DST Image, but for now we'll only select Pet Coat Brush file, so that it's easier for us.

I've selected the first brush file and I've highlighted the piece of data we'll need to use.

We'll have to use the Game File Cruiser search function, but first, press "Add to current package". When you've gotten the hang of this, you can explore the pre-existing brush files and decide which one you'd prefer to use as your base, all are different and correspond to different brushes/stamps in-game.

Once you've clicked on "add to current package" your package editor should look like this:

Now we'll copy the Image1 ID and go back to Game File Cruiser, select DST Image from the file type list and enter the ID into the search bar:

Now, click "Add to current package" and now the package file you're working on will look like this:

Before we move further, we need to generate new instance ID's, we'll need 3 of them.

Go to Tools > Hash Generator

Edited 16/10/2023: When generating your hash ID's, please use your creator name ie.: "[YourCreatorName/Blogname]TutorialCustomFurCoat1", this will give you a more unique hash code than hoping to be as descriptive as possible when generating the hashes (in this case instance ID's).

Thanks to Mizore Yukii for this advice, from Creator's Musings.

In the "text" field, enter whatever text you want, I just go with the item name/description + a number, to indicate which ID it is.

We'll need 3 of FNV64 hash codes.

These are the 3 ID's that I've generated:

We'll use the first code for the Pet Coat Brush file, the second code for Image1 (Brush file) and the third for Image2 (Brush icon file).

Your Pet Coat Brush file should look like this now, with the updated ID's.

Moving forward, we'll be changing the ID for the DST Image1 (Brush in-game) -

Now that you've done this, you need to right click on DST Images > Duplicate, you'll be prompted with this window:

In this window, you'll use the last hash code you generated for the Image2 new ID (in-game icon).

Now! It'll all look like this:

To edit the brush we'll be seeing in-game, we'll now have to edit the image, begin by exporting the image available in DST Image.

Once that's done, open it up in whatever editing software you want to use, I'll be using GIMP, because it has built in DDS exporter, I recommend you do the same, however if not interested in doing so, make sure your program can export DDS images in L8 format, if not, edit in preferred software and use GIMP to export as DDS.

Once you've made your brush, you'll want to do as follows:

IMPORTANT

It MUST be exported in the format L8, it will appear broken in-game otherwise.

Then, import your custom made brush into S4S package editor:

Do the same for the icon:

You've got the easiest part down, now, comes the part with testing how well the brush works and behaves in-game.

The responsibility of this falls onto the values you may have seen in Pet Coat Brush file -

These are the values responsible for how the brush works in-game.

I'll be upfront right now, I can't get the rotation value to work, I'm not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly, but if I figure it out, I'll add to the guide eventually. I haven't had time to test this further, but as far as I've been able to test it, it works like a charm.

These are the value meanings -

Sorry for how lazy this is presented, as once I figured out the basic meaning, I moved forward.

B1 is responsible for sorting on whether your brush is considered a Brush or a Stamp. 0 & 2 - Brush, 1 & 3 Stamp EDITED 24/10/2023: 0 is non-rotating brush, 2 is a rotating brush!

For F1, I do NOT recommend using 0 or 5, when I tested these values in-game, they were extremely laggy when attempting to paint. 1 - Smooth Painting, 2 - Spaced Apart Slightly, Overlap, 3 - Spaced One After Another, Some Overlap, 4 - Spaced One After Another, No Overlap

F2 changes the size of the brush in-game, meaning how small it can be, I believe. 0 - 1px smallest size brush, scaling up changes how small the brush can get.

F3 I suspect is brush rotation, but I could not make it work on any of the brushes I tried making, so I'm not 100 sure. This is one of the brushes you'll have to look at values for in the existing in-game brush files, as I could not get this to work for myself.

F4 is the maximum the size of the brush will become. Maximum size the brush can get, I've tested it from 0 to 5, 5 is quite large, so I recommend that, but go for smaller as well.

F5 I'm not entirely sure, however during my testing, I found that this changes where exactly the brush appears in both stamps and brush tabs in-game. There may be more to it, however, I could not figure it out. The values I tested for this were 0, 1 and 2, this affected where the item appeared - 0 - First Row, First Item, 1, First Row, 2nd Item, 2 - 2nd Row, First Item, I've seen that these can go quite high, ie the base file I used being 44, so keep that in mind while changing this setting. For my personal brushes I use 0.

I recommend comparing existing brush files to the one you're looking to edit.

I believe this is it. If there are any questions, I'll try to answer as best as I can. If anyone wants to add anything to this, please do so, I'll be elated to update and credit you for the information shared.

This all came to be because I could not find a guide, but fortunately for me, I'm too good at figuring things out and even though I didn't quite understand how the Game File Cruiser worked a few days ago, I've consumed so much information it hurts my brain.

Forgot to add: Finished product

Because I didn't edit the Pet Coat Brush file I was working on, I've made a stamp, I recommend messing around for a while though and finding what you prefer. The values themselves are pretty easy and forgiving to edit.

So account for that, you'll definitely want to edit the values responsible for the brush working correctly. If you have any questions, please let me know, I tried to make this as clear as possible, and I know this is probably over the top for a guide, but I'm the kind of person who needs every small direction, to even know what I'm doing, when I'm following a guide.

I wonder if the promoters (and dan) relied on his view numbers to plan those many shows. His video count up until wiqy had millions, and his collabs with phil also had those number of views when otherwise phil hasn’t had any million viewed solo video after dml2 (devastated to report this). Maybe they thought “the anticipation of seeing dan after a while and see what he’s doing” that worked in his youtube uploads will translate to a paying live audience as well? Combined that with AEG not used to working with a youtuber and its audience? Idk im just saying speculations out loud since at the end of the day we don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes

wait, all true and AEG sucks. but i forgot something in all my answers. Europe's promoter is mainly A Comic Soul + locals. Iceland show's promoter was Sena (as was written on the venue's website). i don't know if AEG delegated Europe to A Comic Soul and the locals, Dan never mentioned anyone other than AEG. and looks like they are responsible for the site that died after they added shows. i wonder if Dan has a contract not only with AEG but also with A Comic Soul and etc. wouldn't that be too much considering that he didn't want to search for local promoters and book venues himself? a lot to think about. it would be so much easier if we knew what was happening behind the scenes, at least related to public information.

you mentioned Dan's views numbers and i wanted to bring dd into conversation. what was before dd is very inaccurate and i don't think people thought about it as much as they should have. Dan disappeared for 4 years. BIG doesn't count, WIQY also doesn't count – coming outs and call outs get views. it's not about Dan, it's about the importance of topics, of course it gets views (BIG is bigger than just a topic, but you know what i mean, shut up y'all). dystopia daily on the other hand shows how many of us remained and how interested in Dan's content we are. and the stats are very sad. 500k, that's the maximum he can get now without any extra help from the algorithm. and with 500k views you can't book venues of 3k capacity and expect them to sell out like they used to when there were Dan AND Phil on stage.

"seeing Dan after a while" damn, it could work if this tour wasn't so out of nowhere and after such a long period of silence. people stopped caring after 2020. he uploaded BIG, then was something Pride related and he disappeared again. why bother waiting for him, you know? (that's why i think Rihanna's new album may flop, it's been too long, people let go. all hopes are on super bowl, unfortunately) even i don't remember when and what he did between 2019 and 2022, and i was here all this time :( a book, pride thing, hometown showdown that was never on his channel – but i can't name you years when each of these happened because there's no associations with other things. we saw, we nodded, we forgot in 2 weeks. it's not a foundation for a tour, it's dust in the middle of nowhere. and wad didn't have a proper foundation/base.

but tour is a huge thing. mid 2022 – mid 2023 will be remembered as wad, dystopia daily will be on the side. dd is good for promo but the timing of this comeback wasn't ideal for it to be the foundation. and look, he will most likely disappear again after the tour ends. and who knows for how long.

so how the fuck is he gonna sell the next tour and what audience is he expecting?

Yall, if the supposed source saying, "no, i didn't say that, i said some guy said it and it's uncorroborated" isn't enough for you...

You do realize that Feb/March, it was already announced most Phase 5 shows were being pushed out of 2023 unless they're like, key shows? (like, deadpool, maybe. Random mcspinoff, no.)

And that was BEFORE the strike.

Halle Barry may have been preparing her hair for Deadpool shortly before the strike, that's fine, it's Deadpool, Deadpool is a real release.

But right after the reveal tarp on wave 5 was ripped off to display, Iger ripped it back down and went, nope, we're done spending on infinite content, anything is getting pushed to next year that was gonna go to Disney+ like that. Which. Nova was.

AND THAT WAS!! BEFORE THE STRIKE!!!

This guy has -- ONE decade old credit in a brazillian show, ONE random thanks without being crew on a movie that almost got cancelled for a crew blowout 4 years ago, and his terribly typo filled and self-conflicting college application to learn english after self identifying as coming to the US in--marchpril. Probably april, because he ignored the US MM/DD/YY slots on the college app unless he's from the mystical 18th month. So his 03/04 date was probably 04/03.

Either way there had been talk of the strike for a few MONTHS before EITHER date, even if it dropped May 2, I was already posting about the strike pending on FEBRUARY 4TH.

So I'm not sure why anyone thinks someone would, IDK? Import? Some literal rando? That doesn't read english or write well? To be an assistant? With no real media history? To assist some lead in MARVEL? Some guy who can't shut his mouth in EITHER LANGUAGE? Like... do you understand ANYTHING about Marvel?

You don't think it's WEIRD that this comes up when in the last few years jarpad fans pumped some concept art of him by a random fan?????????????????????????????????????? GUYS. wtf.

So even if Marvel smoked an entire field of hallucinogens and threw their entire method of filming in the trash for Some Rando, why the FUCK would they pay to bring this guy here in April. Or do you think he wandered in, applied in April, and they, what, autohired him to be some lead dude's assistant like, a week or two before the strike happened? Or did they remote hire him and pay to bring him in right before the strike?

HOW WE MET (Abby's Version)

Hi friends! This is my first *official* blog post, and the two of us wanted to put together posts about our friendship & how we met / how we got into Duran Duran from each of our perspectives! :)

Kal and I have so many eerie coincidences in our friendship, it’s insane. Seeing the same angel numbers, texting each other the same exact things at the same time, verbally saying the same thing on FaceTime, finding out both of our first "crushes" as kids were Greg (me) and Murray (Kal) from the Wiggles (don't laugh.) You name it, it’s probably happened with us. We both have gone though eras with The Beatles, The Police and Queen (even both having fixations on Queen specifically during our sophomore years of high school). Even with getting into Duran Duran, she got into them July 9th, and I got into them July 11th, all because of the SAME John Taylor edit we both independently saw on TikTok that randomly came up on our FYP before we met, as well as seeing Duran Duran in concert exactly a week apart (stay tuned for posts about that!)

Now, to clarify, the two of us have always known about Duran and have listened to them very casually. The two of us have ALWAYS loved old music (I grew up listening to a lot of Elton John, Bon Jovi, Elvis, The Beach Boys, Metallica, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Mötley Crüe, and Sam Cooke thanks to a mix of my parents and my grandmother) When I started collecting records when I was 11 (I'll be 21 in May, for context) my Mom gave me her copy of DD's Arena she got in 1984 as one of the albums to “start out” with, along with a few others. (She was a Roger girlie, and her twin sister (my aunt lol) was a Nick girlie! They also had a mutual friend who was a John girlie) Like any girl at that age, I thought they were cute! I loved that it was a live album, which I thought was unique. And, of course, everyone knows Hungry Like The Wolf, come on.

2022 rolled around, along with Season 4 of Stranger Things. I remember scrolling through TikTok in August and stumbling across a Steve Harrington edit with Girls on Film as the audio. I IMMEDIATELY fell in love with the song, it became one of my most listened to tracks that year if I recall correctly. I later posted on my instagram story on November 11th 2022, a mirror selfie of me in my college bathroom with Rio as the music for it. Coincidentally, it was eight months to the day before my fixation started. Weird!

After I was sucked into the Duraniverse by that incredible JT TikTok edit, I made the best decision ever by making a Duran instagram account at the end of July 2023 called thegirlonfilm, after one of my favorite songs that really started it all for me. “I needed to talk to people about them,” I thought to myself, as none of my local friends really knew about them or liked them, and if they did, it wasn’t on the level that I was on. I started joining Facebook groups and started blacking out on eBay, buying posters, books, cds, magazines, vinyls, funko pops, tour brochures, cassettes, you name it. I wanted to do nothing but listen to them and gush about them, blowing up my Pinterest by saving thousands of pins of them. I then snagged tickets for my middle school best friend and I to see them together in Philadelphia not even two weeks later. My feelings for them were VERY similar to my extreme Beatles hyperfixation in early middle school to mid-high school.

Around early August, my account was slowly taking off, and I began following more and more accounts. I started following an account called 111ngel, which was recommended to me as I already had a few mutuals who were following them. We liked each other’s posts here and there, no big deal, occasionally commenting on each other's posts and edits. In early August they tagged me in an edit they made of Nick & John, dm’ing me saying that “they hoped it was okay that they tagged me because they didn’t have many Duran Duran mutuals.” Of course I was okay with it, I was excited that someone actually tagged me in something, and we eventually struck up a light conversation that turned into us talking to each other everyday for the next 6 months.

Flash forward to now, Kal is the bestest friend I could ever ask for, even though we’ve never met irl and she lives over 15 hours away in a different time zone than me. (I’m on the east coast, she’s in the midwest). She's one of the sweetest, kindest, funniest and most caring people I have ever met, and she never fails to make me laugh until I cry. We have a never-ending list of inside jokes and just stupid stuff that makes us giggle. She was there for me consistently through the worst heartbreak of my life, and has been there for me regardless ever since. We have our “Duran Nights” which consists of us staying up on FaceTime together until 4 AM watching interviews, documentaries and concerts, talking about things going on in the Duran community, going Brittany Broski-level feral over John and Simon, or giggling about crap we find on Pinterest (and me destroying her in word hunt on iMessage games hehe) She’s so comforting to be around, as if we knew each other in a past life. We both agree that we're 100% each other's platonic soulmates, as we clicked almost immediately and have such a deep friendship. I’ve never met someone that I could be so transparent with, and she’s really the only person I can TRULY be myself around without the fear of judgement. From a 6-year old child artist to Swiggy Uncle!

This Vadi Bro has come a long way !!

If you have passion for something and keep on working towards that, you are surely going to get it, one day! Now its up to you whether you call it Destiny or your Dedication…Swiggy Uncle has proved it both ways! How? Lets rewind his journey as an actor and get to know how he did it all?

Naresh Gosain, a mechanical Engineer by profession was passionate about acting since childhood. He started acting on stage when he was just six years old. It took him 50 years to reach where he is today. Hours, days, months and years’ of work could not give him what a 20 Sec Silent TVC did. It was not just a matter of chance that even after doing dozens of serials, hundreds of Street plays, and so many appearances in Big Budget Bollywood movies, he could not get the appreciation he had been looking for but he feels ‘God has been kind to have given me all this at this age because if he had given all this earlier, who knows I might have got vanished from the scene by now.’ Now, that is what we call positive attitude!

Before getting to know the Gulab Jamun Waale Uncle’s journey (as he’s fondly known), let me share few things which I remember of him as a child. In those days, he was acting in Doordarshan Serials Dil Dariya, Doosra Kewal and Phir Wohi Talaash. We felt really proud of the fact that my Maasi’s son is coming on Television. Unlike today, those were the Doordarshan days when everyone was watching the same thing at the same time, unlike today when the audience is segregated.

We are basically a very filmy family and I give all the credit to my Daddy and Mummy for this. Music, movies all this has been part of our lives since the time, I was not even born. So when Babbu Bhaiya (as we call him) got in to acting , we would look forward to hear all Filmy Stories from him. Infact, I got to know about Shahid Kapoor’s existence as a 10 year old when bhaiya was working in the serial Phir Wohi Talaash (way back in 1990) with actress Neelima Azeem who had this very happy-go-lucky , jovial type youthful, college going girl’s character. He told us that she is a 28 year old woman and has a 10 year old son which was unbelievable. We just could not believe that! And yes I do remember his dialogue in one of the episodes which was ‘Kaad diya…..unko kaad diya’ (they have been thrown out).

And now…everyday we are seeing him in new TVCs be it Bisleri, Dr. Fixit, Netmeds, Goldie Masaale and so on. Success did come to him but after giving 50 dedicated years of his life. Does he have grudges or he is smiling the way he smiles while eating Gulab Jamun in Swiggy TVC? Before we ask him about his journey, how about having a look at some of his best TVCs!

Lets rewind and talk to him from where it all started!

When did you first realize that you wanted to act?

It was not that I realized or something. Initially, it just happened, as my father was a theatre actor and a writer too, I would often accompany him during his rehearsals and one fine day he asked me to act..and with that began my acting journey. I acted in a lot of plays as a child artist. And this I’m talking about 1968 when I was hardly six years old and now that I’m talking of my childhood days, I can recall that I got my first award in 1972 in a theatre festival in Delhi which was quite motivating for me in that young age, although I didn’t understand the seriousness of acting that time.

In 70s and 80s, Doordarshan was the only channel we had and coming on Television was not a small thing. What memories do you have of your initial days?

In those days, actors got much more popularity because Doordarshan had the monopoly. If I talk about myself, I was working regularly with DD for various types of shows and family and friends used to appreciate that because it was a big thing back then. It reminds me of an incident, Doordarshan would telecast one Special New Year Show every year which used to have audience just the way we have now in reality shows. So whenever I got a chance to be there in that new year show, as an audience my friends would get very excited..Arrey tujhe dekha tha! And afterwards when I started acting in serials, though in small roles, I always got a positive response from family and friends.

And how and when did acting in Doordarshan happen?

Doordarshan was the only Channel we had back in 70s and 80s and I was lucky enough to have bagged my first Telefilm in the year 1981. In those days, it wasn’t easy to get a break but I got a chance to show my talent when Doordarshan started Morning Transmission somewhere in mid 80s and I did, mostly comedy serials like Hamaare manager, Popat lal Jasoos, Jeena Yahaan Marna Yahaan and few more. Then I happen to meet Director Lekh Tandon who after directing some very big movies like Agar Tum Na Hote, Dulhan Wahi Jo Piya Man Bhaae, Professor, Aamrapali, Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan and so many more, came to Delhi to make serials for Doordarshan. I met him during that time only when he was directing Dil Dariya and Doosra Kewal for Doordarshan.

If I remember it correctly Dil Dariya was Shah Rukh Khan’s debut serial although the one that got aired on TV was Fauji, Right? How was the experience? Any incident of those days you can recall?

Absolutely right! Although I got to play a small role in that serial but as I was involved in production too, I was there on the sets everyday. And you just asked about any incident. So I have an interesting thing to tell…I remember we were shooting for Doosra Kewal. We had to shoot a song and were looking for a particular location so I asked Lekh Tandon ji to shoot the same at my terrace. As soon as we finished the shoot, Shah Rukh said that his serial Circus is going to be telecast just now and he wanted to see it. We all came downstairs and he watched that episode of Circus with my whole family and that too sitting on the floor. He was already a big TV star by then and so humble was he…I offered him chair…but he said ‘No..I am Okey here.’ And we were all very friendly with each other be it Shah Rukh or other actors like Arun Baliji, Vinita Malikji and Alka Amin (who was seen in Kedarnath as Sushant Singh Rajput’s mother) and I also remember that Arun Bali ji and Vinita Malik ji were the highest paid actors of this serial.

So, the shooting of all these serials was being done in Delhi only and did you continue with theatre also while doing DD serials?

While I was working in DD serials, I was also doing Public Awareness Campaigns because in those days, we used to have lots of such Govt campaigns running on Doordarshan. I continued doing theatre too but this time it was Ramleela and starting from year 1993, I continued playing Kumbhkaran for over 25 years at the Ramleela of Model Town 2, New Delhi. Then in the year 2000, I started doing Street Plays for private as well as Govt Sector and these kept me busy for years.

When did you first come to Mumbai for an acting assignment? What was that about? And which directors you worked with, initially?

I went to Mumbai for the first time in 1989. It was for the shooting of a TV serial called Sadbhaavna again for Doordarshan which was directed by Raj Tilakji who had already directed films like Mukti starring Shashi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar and Vidya Sinha and 36 Ghante starring Raj Kumar, Sunil Dutt and Mala Sinha and many more. After doing Sadbhavna, I started coming to Mumbai frequently. Although it was one scene or two and the first movie I did was Manorama Six Feet Under. Then I got a chance to work with Subhash Ghai ji in Kanchi.

Rajat Kapoor was another director, I got a chance to work with in the movie Aankhon Dekhi. Then Dibaakar Banerjee..with whom I worked in Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, then Vicky Donor happened with Shoojit Sarkar. Infact, I was in all 3 projects of Mirzapur Director Gurmmeet Singh - What The Fish, (in which I had a good role but unfortunately the film didn’t do well at the box office)Warning and Sharaafat Gai Tel Lene and years later I got a chance to work with him in Mirzapur too. Roles were small but good thing was that I was getting work.

What made you decide to permanently move to Mumbai? Did you get family support?

When I was doing serials Chidiya Ghar and Laapata Ganj that time, I seriously thought of moving to Mumbai. It was around 2012 that I started getting regular work…all the films that I just mentioned. But yes, permanently I decided to shift my base here was after Swiggy TVC happened, that has been the biggest turning point in my career. And yes, when I decided to move to Mumbai permanently, my family did support me. And moreover, I could afford to be away from home and give it a shot as my kids were grown up and busy in their own lives and I had my mother and wife Meenu’s full support to go ahead with my decision of giving it a shot.

How did you get Swiggy TVC? Did you have any idea that it would be the biggest turning point of your career? Any big complements you received from your industry friends?

I still remember I was in Delhi doing my awareness campaigns and in between that, I got a call for audition of this Swiggy Ad. I recorded my audition video there only on my mobile and sent it. Although I wanted to get selected but wasn’t sure. But I was selected and there I was shooting for that Ad which changed my life and there has been no looking back since then.

I got lot of popularity because of the Swiggy campaign. The thing is that nowadays the audience is divided..in a way that some people watch only movies, some…crime thrillers, some like to watch family shows, some…news but Ad is one thing which everyone watches and it comes on every platform and this Swiggy TVC came during IPL season and that’s the reason it got even more visibility. The Ad campaign really helped Swiggy and their sales increased by 45%.

My friends Vinay Pathak and Saurabh Shukla gave me complements. They said the way you hold your expressions and smile, is amazing. Kya kamaal ki ad ki hai tuney. I have been doing like this for so many years now but the only thing is that when God’s blessings come, things just change and the same thing happened with me.

How easy was it shifting to TVCs? How do you look at the whole thing?

Doing TVCs was not a planned move, first of all. It just happened. The thing is that when you are doing theatre, reaction is instant. One story is told in 2 hours in a film, in a series it takes 10-12 episodes but when it comes to an ad, you have to tell the story in just 15-20 secs which is not an easy thing. I got to learn so much while doing TVCs. On other hand all my experience came in handy when I started doing ads. I have not had any formal training in Acting, but I have hands-on experience of 55 years. Everyday, I am doing something new which is challenging and satisfying at the same time.

You have worked in some Short Films also, how was that experience?

So far working in short films has been one of the best experiences and I enjoyed working in The Honeymooners and Shagun. I am emotionally attached to The Honeymooners, actually. There is whole variety of roles that I am doing now and it is very surprising that at this age I’m doing things that I never thought, I would ever do, especially after crossing 60. Bojh was another short film that I did. Also I did few bigger Ads which had a storyline especially the ones done for Valentine’s Day and Father’s Day.

You have worked in some Web Series also. Tell us about that experience? And your upcoming projects also?

Yes I have done few Web Series like Mirzapur, Inside Edge, Illegal and few more to come. Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper is the next Web Series I’m waiting for then there’s one more Jhaansi ka Rajkumar. Plus TVCs are going on. One with Ranbir has just started coming and Vadilal campaign also started recently and after Swiggy Uncle they’ve shown me as Vadi Bro…it has that youthful touch with lots of colours. I’m loving every bit of it.

Your experience of working with actors like Akshay Kumar, Virat Kohli , Anushka, Alia and Ranbir Kapoor?

The experience has been great. They’ve all been very nice. Ranbir Kapoor is one humble actor I have worked with. I had a great time shooting with Virat and Anushka too. One of the ads we did together was about eating and they brought Rajma Chaawal from their home. Since he is also from Delhi I told him it has this typical DIlli-wala taste and we ll enjoyed shooting as well as eating.

Do you have any grudges that all this success and fame came your way very late or you are enjoying it?

I am grateful to God. I feel that if I had got success some 20-30 years ago, I might not have been in the industry today. God has really been kind and I have no grudges at all.

How does it feel living your childhood dream?

Although I have been acting for so many years now and I have always given my 100 % whether it was serials or movies or street plays but the kind of stuff I got to do after my Swiggy TVC is something I am really enjoying. I never imagined that I would get such amazing roles to play and trust me God has really been kind and there’s much more to come. Its all God’s grace. I have been working consistently for last 50 years but got showered with all the name and fame now and its all God’s blessing.

I would personally recommend you all to watch these two Festival Spl TVCs and you will have an idea how good Swiggy Uncle is with his facial expressions.

From scrollling on social media to taking steroids...?

You may be asking yourself, how can social media possibly link to steroid use in men? Well, I’ll explain a reason this conclusion can be drawn.

An interesting point made by Duffy and Meisner (2023, p. 296), and the many content creators they interviewed, was how social media platforms continue to circulate the same kind of content. As a result, social media users are constantly exposed to similar concepts and ideologies, regardless of whether they will have a positive or negative effect on consumers (Duffy & Meisner 2023, p. 296). Unconsciously, society tends to internalise what they see, and specific cultural standards form. An example of this is the male and female “ideal” body images.

It is commonly known that female body standards are unrealistically set through social media: this is the same for the male community. Men are vulnerable to unrealistic hyper-muscular body standards which circulate the media (Keane 2005, p. 192). Because of this common obsession with muscularity amongst the male population (Leit et al. 2002, p. 334), the recreational use of anabolic steroids is becoming a more prevalent (Keane 2005, pp. 191-192). This is a type of body modification posing major public health concerns (Keane 2005, p. 190).

A questionnaire study on 2,088 high school graduates, 90% of who participated, exposed that almost 70% of these men were dissatisfied with their body image, and 46% of them wished to gain weight, associated with the desire to have a more muscular build (Drewnowski et al. 1995, pp. 382-383). These alarming findings can be link to an increased media emphasis on male masculinity which is displayed through an unnatural muscular physique (Drewnowski et al. 1995, p. 382). Men are beginning to compare their perceived masculinity and their body to what they see online (Leit et al. 2002, p. 334). This is contributing to male body dissatisfaction and the need to prove their masculinity to themselves and society. Unfortunately, these hyper-masculine physiques are naturally unobtainable for many men, hence, we are seeing an increased use of anabolic steroids to achieve the “desired” look.

Sadly, anabolic steroids can have a detrimental impact on users. Some long-term side effects include cardiovascular complications, liver disease, reproductive organ damage and severe mood swings (Better Health Channel 2022). It is confronting how impactful unrealistic social media messages are on the public. As humans we are so impressionable and feel the need to fit in with societal norms. However, as explained, this can have detrimental impacts on people. So when using social media and the internet it’s important to remember that not everything we see online is realistic, healthy, or beneficial for our mental and physical health.

DDS Textures in Newer Photoshop Versions and NVIDIA Texture Exporter for Sims 4

There is probably already something out there explaining this or maybe this falls under self explanatory, but since it admittedly did take a bit to get this sorted myself. I thought it might be a good idea to make a tutorial/post covering it.

The Sims 4 uses DXT5 and 8-bit-per-channel sRGB compression for the textures. The latter being primary for make-up as well as eyebrows and skin details. Though some older cc (pre-Dec 2020 update) maybe using DXT5. In my experience, updating theses textures to the 8-bit-per-channel sRGB compression or LRLE images matters more so to makeup and skin details than eyebrows (If there is a notable difference let me know). Which the Sim 4 Studio does have a batch fix to update makeup files.

Unless you are using the Color Slider Mod by thepancake1 and MizoreYukii. The mod requires the use of LRLE images to allow for the use of sliders to customize the color of CAS items. I will note here, that Sims 4 Studio does have a batch fix for Hairs to update for compatibility for the mod, but not clothing. If you want more on that mod it'll be best to check the posts over at the patreon. I'll include links at the end.

Moving on, in order to edit dds files in Photoshop you need a plugin for the format. For Sims 4, its the NVIDIA plugin, which has both a legacy version and the NVIDIA Texture Tools Exporter. If your using older Photoshop versions (Photoshop 5.0 to CS6) the legacy plugin is the one you want. However, if you are using the newer/newest version the NVIDIA Texture Tools Exporter is needed.

The legacy version will run in the newer versions, but is buggy and can cause different issues from crashing to causing artifacts in the texture.

With that noted, it is also a good idea to check if you have the legacy or dds64.8bi file installed in your plugins. It shows up is the file options bar when as D3D/DDS and should be located in the *"Drive:\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop "year version"\Plug-ins\File Formats" or "Drive:\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop "year version"\Required\Plug-ins\File Formats" depending on where you installed it.

*Drive is usually C:\, so "C:\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop "year version"\Plug-ins\File Formats". However, the exact install location can vary. For example, at time of writing my Photoshop is installed to "F:\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop 2023".

The NVIDIA Texture Tools Exporter has both a standalone application and the Adobe Photoshop plugin. If you are just wanting to edit Sims 4 textures, you only need the plugin. Make sure Photoshop is closed before trying to install.

You may be asked to uninstall any older versions of the plugin on trying to install the newer plugin tools. Simple way to to do this is to go to the Apps and Features under Apps in your settings and searching NVIDIA. Then looking for the NVIDIA DDS Utilities and/or NVIDIA Texture Tools for Adobe Photoshop.

It will also ask where you want to install the resources. Typically, this will be at "Drive:\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop "year version"\Plug-ins\NVTT". This can be changed, but is not recommended.

Once installed, when you try to open a dds image you should see this window;

Check the "Load Alpha as Channel Instead of Transparency" and then hit OK. This makes the Alpha (this effects how the texture appears on the mesh) a separate item in the channels tab.

You should now be able to do whatever recolors or edits to the texture and alpha.

On saving, you may need to flatten the texture or use the "Save a Copy" option. Then make sure the Save as Type reads "DDS - NVIDIA Texture Tools Exporter (*.DDS;*.DDS).

Name your file what you want and try not to overwrite texture files often to avoid any issues. Hit save and this window should appear;

As this is a hair texture and I am not saving it to be Color Slider compatible, it'll need to be saved using the "BC3 RGBA 8bbp | interpolated alpha" option.

If I were to save it as an LRLE, it would need to be the "8.8.8.8 BGRA 32bbp | unsigned" option instead.

After picking the option needed for the texture, hit save. You should now be able to import the texture back in Sims 4 Studio.

Other things, to note are that if you try to import a texture to a file and its the wrong compression Sims 4 Studio with alert you to this. A pop up like this will show up giving you the info about what is needed;

In this case, the file attempting to be imported is DXT5 rather than an LRLE. This just means going back into Photoshop and choosing the correct compression option in the NVIDIA Texture Export window and re-saving the texture.

Also depending on if you are doing texture editing for other games (such as the Dragon Age series), you may also have the Intel dds plugin. As such on opening a dds file you may get this pop up instead;

Again, just make sure to check the "Load Transparency as Alpha channel" option. Then hit OK.

I have not had any real issues with having both installed, but if you do its just a matter of removing the IntelTextureWorks.8bi from the File Formats folder while working on textures for the Sims 4.
