I like my sibling dynamics fucked up
There is not a single fiber in me that cares about 'perfect' siblings where nothing ever goes wrong between them, where the angst never stems from the fact that they're siblings but just external factors
If you're gonna make characters siblings, don't just do the 'haha so funny they're teasing each other so sibling core', thats boring

Controversial, but the more I think about the 1982 Scarlet Pimpernel adaptation, the more I hate what they did to Marguerite. The love triangle with Chauvelin annoys me anyway, but to take away the little agency Orczy gives her heroine in the books and make the St Cyr denunciation all about a man being dumped by his girlfriend really grinds my gears. Instead of Marguerite's anger, pride, impulsive nature and love for her brother driving her to betray a traitor St Cyr to the Republic, we get 'I have lost my husband's love and I don't know why' - and what's worse, her confusion is real because she hasn't done anything! Chauvelin set her up! Even Merle Oberon's Marguerite gets the 'ever glorious fourteenth of July' speech, where she's like, 'Yes, I did denounce him, and do you want to know why?'
And this also means that Percy doesn't accept that his wife is human and that they have both made mistakes, he realises that she is 'innocent' instead and learns precisely nothing. 1982 Percy will never reach the level of this awesome speech from I Will Repay:
"And 'twill be when you understand that your idol has feet of clay that you'll learn the real lesson of love," said Blakeney earnestly.
"Is it love to worship a saint in heaven, whom you dare not touch, who hovers above you like a cloud, which floats away from you even as you gaze? To love is to feel one being in the world at one with us, our equal in sin as well as in virtue. To love, for us men, is to clasp one woman with our arms, feeling that she lives and breathes just as we do, suffers as we do, thinks with us, loves with us, and, above all, sins with us. Your mock saint who stands in a niche is not a woman if she have not suffered, still less a woman if she have not sinned. Fall at the feet of your idol an you wish, but drag her down to your level after that—the only level she should ever reach, that of your heart."

#edgy...
Fucking cringy is what it should be tagged as
Like, if you need to tag your shit as edgy or tell people that you're edgy, chances are you're not even an edgelord. And if it's a joke, then it's a bad one because this isn't satire of actual edge or edgelords. Satire usually needs to be a more extreme or silly version of reality.
Satire of an edgelord would be like:
Satan
Fuck buddies and thots
Dog shit
Family
Friends
Or something along those lines (hey, I don't pretend to be a comedian)
His post is too similar to reality to be satire anyways and if he's trying to be "self aware" that not caring about people's opinions is "edgy" behaviour then it still sucks because we know his ego and how much he cares about people's opinions. The man threw a fucking temper tantrum when a girl mentioned she wasn't into him, this guy makes dozens of videos ranting when people correct him on proper hygiene, this man cried on the internet when a follower made a JOKE about his flabby tummy and screamed about his "vegetarian boday" when people point out how blatantly unhealthy he looks, and (most importantly) this is the man that runs and hides from the internet then cries about it whenever he actually manages to say something slightly edgy/trolly and he gets the response edge/trolling is meant to get.
I get that he's stupidly thinking this will help him appeal to the kids but even if this behaviour was as prevalent as it used to be among kids, this isn't how you do it. Hell, his humour has never been anything more than digestibly edgy anyways. Somewhere between Shane Dawson and Smosh on the list of skit YouTubers. Slight edge for the kids who couldn't fully stomach the extremes Shane would go to (much less what people off of YouTube did for that matter) but felt Smosh was too mainstream. Sure there was some overlap between Shane and Greg in terms of both fans and their content, but overal what got him popular wasn't homeless men eating shit out of a cup or bulimia jokes with simulated vomit, it was a stupid banana video that went viral on the family friendly Tosh.0 and later he kept that audience due to his Cyr skits, queerbaiting/shipbaiting, and drama, drama, drama (as he conceded himself). The closest thing he had to proper edge were his speaks videos but they were him literally speaking out his uneducated opinions and not calculated in that way
It's just so pathetic that not only does he think this will appeal to a new audience, but that he's even succeeding at doing it

BETTER GET OFF MASSACHUSETTS FAST BEFORE THEY FLEECE MY POCKETS !  !!!!!!!!!!
Ran across this from NGPA
Reference this site:  https://www.change.org/p/julian-andre-cyr-voice-opposition-to-massachusetts-senate-bill-2305?fbclid=IwAR1dnez3JZwR4dvGUKi2RehnBTJQXlpWKPXQsTqn86rHiq9WiWgSQe7PcFk
The Ding-a-Ling who wrote this CAN'T be serious : - A bill to "fine" all aircraft that land in the State of Massachusetts at least ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to supposedly mitigate the effects of their dirty, rotten, filthy, ugly, sooty, stinky, disgustingly nauseating, visibly obnoxious, carbon infused exhaust gasses from falling on the entire State of  Massachusetts. Just think - the atmosphere in the State could be covered in this stuff, causing a "Carbon Winter"; which would blanket the Sun, and nix out the highly profitable pot growing season. Not to mention "Tourism" !!!! Now, all the potential tourists from the West Coast, Europe, the Philippines and especially China will be booking resorts in the clean airspace states of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut and especially Rhode Island -  all of which do not have this dumbass "fine" as part of their "clean air initiative".
When will anybody realize that this is nothing more than a bunch of BS to pit the "liberals" against the "conservatives". Democrats against Republicans.
When will anybody realize that there is but only one party now -the Corporate Party. Banks and "Big Business" have paid for all the politicians  (something that AOC has recently discovered)  and have their hands in the pockets of all the important judges. They run this F^(#ing Country. Either get use to it, or don't participate.
And why pick on Aviation? Do some of these politicians think we're all "rich"? I am living proof that "back in the day", a "poor" person could become a pilot and own his own airplane. Think about it  -the American pilot population makes up less than one half of one percent of the entire U.S. population. The cost-to-income ratio is a hell of a lot higher today than it was back in 1968. There is not much of an incentive for a person to learn to "fly for fun". Does the supporter of this bill expect there to be a "minimal to non-existent" rebuttal? Who knows. If most people are consistently sweating their own financial COVID situation, there might be zero flack from its opposition. How nice is that? And why am I making such a big fuss over this stupid ass thing in the first place?            .Because I'm old, retired and have nothing better to do at the moment. RANT - OVER!
Well  .......  not yet! I just discovered in the bill under line #24: “Nothing in this section shall pertain to PUBLIC AIRCRAFT - SCHEDULED COMMERCIAL PASSENGER AIR TRANSPORTATION, FREIGHT OR CARGO AIRCRAFT. .... In other words, these big businesses and government aircraft are exempt from the “fine”   ...   ain’t that SWEET?

Do you think Greg goes on those Twitter rants to control Lainey? It's gotta be humiliating/embarrassing for your husband to post that shit. Basically saying, "Honey, don't disagree with me or I'll put it in blast for the entire internet to see, and I'll make you look like shit". She's said on younow that disagreeing with Greg "doesn't end badly for [her]". It's like she has to keep her mouth shut if she doesn't want to get dragged through the mud by him.
I think your perception about the motivation behind Greg’s apparent need to drag Lainey on Twitter and YouNow is spot on. I think he does it for a couple of reasons, actually: #1 is just because he has a pathological need to be right, and #2 is because, as you said, in criticizing and belittling Lainey over social media, he gets to maintain some aspect of control over her.
The mechanism through which this works on people (and especially people like Lainey, who are incredibly sensitive, emotionally fragile, insecure, unsure of themselves, and who struggled with confidence and low self-esteem even before meeting Greg) is that, for one thing, having a spouse who is constantly mocking, invalidating, and belittling your thoughts, your feelings, your opinions, your talents, your dreams, your goals, and your personal preferences, is very destabilizing not only to a person’s confidence, but to their very sense of self. Especially in this case where the person is not only her husband and the father of her children, but also someone who started out being her absolute idol - a man that she worshiped with an almost godlike reverence - being constantly mocked by a person with so much power over you can be hugely damaging to a person’s self-esteem. It makes them question themselves: he’s so smart, so wise, so knowledgeable, so worldly, so experienced, and so many people value his opinions… he has millions of fans, and I’m just one person, a nobody. Surely he must be right? Know something that I don’t? So they back down, convinced that they’re wrong, and he’s right. And so every time Greg mocks Lainey’s thoughts and feelings, he reinforces in her that feeling of worthlessness, and in doing so simultaneously reinforces his own control over her - the less confidence she has in herself, the more control he has over her. One of the biggest reasons why people stay in abusive relationships like this is because their confidence and self-esteem has been so eroded over the course of months or years that they actually don’t think they deserve any better.
Another reason that this tends to work so well - and this is a method that Greg takes advantage of quite frequently - is because, since their arguments are so public and his following is so large, he can almost always count on at least a handful of his fans to agree with every word that he says. It’s abuse by proxy - not only can he use it as an excuse to continue his behavior (”Look, Lainey, look at all of these people who agree with me; so you’re obviously wrong” - he used this same tactic with Adrienne), but it also serves as a warning or deterrent for future “bad” behavior on her part - “Don’t slip up, or I’ll make you look like shit to our entire fanbase”. He doesn’t say this, of course - he presents this under the guise of “being honest” - but that is the intended purpose beneath all of his posturing and excuses. If you cross me, I’ll make sure that my thousands of fans blast you on Twitter, and you’ll be so humiliated that you never challenge my authority again.
And Lainey isn’t stupid: she sees what happens to the people who Greg discards or deems unworthy of his “affection” - she’s seen him go on Twitter rants criticizing Cyr for simply not allowing Greg to bully him into voting for Hillary Clinton, throwing back in his face every good deed that he ever did to help him (protip: your altruism is not authentic if you’re only doing it so that you can later demand reciprocity for your good deeds - in fact, doing nice things for people just so that you can later hold it over their head in order to control their behavior is inherently self-interested, and the very opposite of benevolence). She’s seen him slander many exes before her, making video after post after rant accusing Skye of being a dishonest thief, Shiloh of being a dramatic, promiscuous cheater, Adrienne of being a smelly, unhygienic slut, and Billie of being a stupid, lying drug addict. She’s seen Greg expose sensitive and highly personal information about his exes that was imparted to him with the expectation of privacy, under the guise of “honesty” (but which was really just done for revenge, and for the purpose of preemptively discrediting them and anything they may have to say). She’s seen Greg drag her own family members over social media in the past, including her mother, her father, and her sister (does she even have any family members left that he hasn’t insulted on Twitter?). Hell, Lainey herself is no stranger to being mocked, insulted, and belittled by him online; she knows exactly what to expect when she openly disagrees with him, especially in public. Unfortunately, in this case, I think Greg chose to rail on Lainey over the one and only topic that she won’t passively accept him invalidating her over: her gender identity. (Which she is very protective of, I suspect because she doesn’t have control over very much else in her life.)
Like most abusers, Greg craves that sense of power and control over the people around him; it’s why he goes so far out of his way to specifically seek out younger women - women like Lainey who were already vulnerable to begin with - and friends who suck up to him or will be passive and complacent in the face of his abuse (this is why he doesn’t have any friends; very few people, especially platonic male friends, are willing to put up with this treatment). It’s why he expresses such an intense hatred towards people, especially women, who criticize or outwit him, and who he perceives as emasculating him (see: Blaire White or Joy Sparkle BS). He wants power and control, especially over women, and slowly eroding away at their self-esteem is the best way to achieve that. And so Greg takes advantage of the many tools at his disposal in order to control their behavior, and his large audience is a great way to do this: because not only is he reinforcing to her that he doesn’t approve of her opinion/stance/behavior, but he is also utilizing his large public following as a way to shame and humiliate her, and to threaten her with the same outcome that his previous girlfriends fell victim to: “Don’t cross me again, or I’ll spill it all over Twitter and leave you to fend off the wolves on your own.”

Video
youtube
Again this just proves how the conversation with Vix bugged Lainey. If you truly didn’t care you wouldn’t have come back to rant about it for 20 more minutes.
Greg did make videos about his friendships with Cyr and Shane Dawson ending. He sure as fuck didn’t cry about them though. Cyr was his friend for YEARS and he wasn’t crying about it. But he can cry about Vix? Someone he supposedly only talked about Smash Bros with?
The context is not different between B and Vix. The ONLY difference is Lainey dated B. Greg and B started off as JUST FRIENDS. They hung out, made videos, played video games, and watched anime together. Everything Greg said made him fall in love with her. He gave her a topless massage (and still defends that to this day) as just friends. Look at how that shit fest turned out.
Greg doesn’t talk to any of his other “friends” like he talked to Vix. Greg doesn’t try to keep their names secret when talking about his other friends. Yet he specifically told her he wouldn’t mention her name or do anything that would tip people off about who she was.
Lainey isn’t bothered by the texts/dms NOW because this happened awhile ago. Vix ended the friendship. She’s no longer a threat. So yeah why on Earth would Lainey be bothered by it now? But Greg even told Vix Lainey was worried about how much he was talking about Vix and how cool he thought she was.
If Lainey wasn’t bothered by this they wouldn't have spent so much time trying to convince everyone else that Greg wasn’t being a creep. It says a lot when all kinds of people who have different ways of thinking can all agree that the way Greg talked to Vix is not a normal way people talk to someone who is just their friend. Lainey could have easily just said, “I saw the texts I’m fine with it.” And that could have been the end.

SEASON REVIEW: High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Disney+, 2019)
Tumblr media
I’ve been a Wildcat since 2006. High School Musical was a national event in my house. I went to the High School Musical on Stage! show in my Limited Too outfit. I saw High School Musical 3: Senior Year in theaters on opening day. And I cried when Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens ended their real-life relationship. #RIPZanessa.
When High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was announced I was a little bit skeptical. It wasn’t my High School Musical and none of the original creators were tied to the series. Then, I attended the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California in 2019 and got to see the cast perform and introduce us to their characters. I’m not gonna lie, hearing “We’re All In This Together” made tear up but I was still skeptical.
I mean how on earth could a show called High School Musical: The Musical: The Series be any good if they couldn’t have even come up with a creative title? Well, let me tell you, I was wrong. Not about the lame name (I’m still not a fan of that) but the show quickly became a must-see for me.
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was created by Tim Federle and airs on Disney+. HSMTMTS, as fans have abbreviated it, follows a group of East High drama kids as they put on a production of High School Musical, chosen by East High’s new drama teacher. The show is a mockumentary and juggles the teenagers’ lives outside of school with the crazy world of high school theater. It features a mix of High School Musical songs and original songs written for the series.
The show features Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett who play Nini and Ricky our new leading couple. Along with them are our “wonderstudies” Matt Cornett who plays E.J. and Sofia Wylie who plays Gina. Larry Saperstein (Big Red), Julia Lester (Ashlyn), Dara Reneé (Kourtney), and Frankie Rodriguez (Carlos) round out our main high school cast. Of course, a show set in high school needs some teachers. That’s where Kate Reinders who portrays Miss Jenn, the new East High drama teacher and former background dancer in the original High School Musical and Mark St. Cyr who plays Mr. Benjamin Mazzara, the STEM teacher who is anti Arts come in.
Now that the series has officially aired its final episode for the season, it’s time for my review.
As always, spoilers are ahead. You’ve been warned.
Favorite Episode: 1×08 – “The Tech Rehearsal”
Tumblr media
Picking my favorite episode proved to be insanely difficult but after much deliberation, I decided that “The Tech Rehearsal” is my favorite episode.
“The Tech Rehearsal” centers around the tech rehearsal, obviously. The cast shows up to the East High theater for tech rehearsal only to find that their beloved theater has been set on fire and deemed unsafe by the fire department. As the popular saying goes, “the show must go on!” Thanks to Carlos’s uncle they are able to move the production to the abandoned El Ray theater downtown, much to Miss Jenn’s dismay.
Once they arrive at the theater disasters continue to strike. E.J. gets his hands on Miss Jenn’s audition notes and discovers that he didn’t get the part of Troy Bolton because he has difficulty connecting to the material. Nini and Ricky are banished to the attic of the theater to rehearse a scene but end up reminiscing about their friendship. And the crew scrambles to get the theater for their production. Oh yeah, and Lucas Gabreel (aka Ryan Evans) guest stars during Miss Jenn’s dream.
So, yeah, a lot is going on in this episode.
The reason why it’s my favorite is because of the dialogue and the connections the characters have with each other.
I’m not even slightly embarrassed to admit that I am a 23-year-old who squealed in delight watching Big Red and Ashlyn flirt with each other. Their one-liners were honestly the cutest thing ever. Hallmark movie-level cheesy? Yes. But, oh so amazing regardless.
Another reason I love this episode is the scene with Nini and Ricky when they realize unlike their characters, they do have a history with each other. Nini is rehearsing Gabriela’s line where she tells Troy that singing with him felt like kindergarten where it was so easy to be friends with someone because you could be yourself. The line reminds Ricky of his past with Nini and the fact they actually did meet in kindergarten.
The two go on to reminisce about their early friendship and it becomes clear that these two kids are so not over each other. It’s the classic best friends to lovers to exes troupe and I love it.
It’s also a really authentic scene. Their reminiscing happens organically. When they first start remembering it’s playful and fun but as they continue it quickly turns to remorse as they realize that they miss each other, in more ways than they thought.
“The Tech Rehearsal” also lets Kourtney take center stage as she belts out a song on stage while Big Red tries to work out the lighting kinks. Kourtney’s “fifteen minutes of fame” moment causes her to realize why Nini is so passionate about theater.
I do have one complaint with this episode and that’s that I wanted more of a technical aspect to it. Yes, there was some with the crew trying to figure out how to work everything in the decrepit theater but it didn’t feel like a tech rehearsal. It’s a really knit-picky critique but I needed to say it.
Least Favorite Episode: 1×01 – “The Auditions”
Tumblr media
Thankfully I have a policy to never judge a show by its pilot episode. If I didn’t have this policy, I would have stopped watching High School Musical: The Musical: The Series immediately after the first episode.
“The Audition” is set at the start of the school year. Ricky returns to school to find that his ex-girlfriend Nini (they were on a break) has come back from summer theater camp with a new boyfriend, senior “it” boy, E.J. Things are awkward as expected. The students all enter the gym where they are introduced to the new drama teacher, Miss Jenn, who announces that East High will be putting on High School Musical as their fall production. Nini, of course, decides to audition for Gabriela and E.J. plans to be Troy. Determined to win Nini back, Ricky, who’s been anti-musical his entire life, decides he’s also going to audition. The drama unfolds and the episode ends with the cast list being posted — Nini and Ricky have been cast as the leads.
As I said, going into the first episode I was skeptical. High School Musical was my childhood and I didn’t want that to be ruined. I was afraid HSMTMTS was going to be too gimmicky and rely on nostalgia to gain its fan base.
Unfortunately, my worries were confirmed when the first episode aired.
I felt that it relied too much on nostalgia. It was super cringy. And I couldn’t accept the fact that someone else was singing High School Musical songs. Obviously, I got over those initial concerns but that doesn’t change my opinion about the first episode.
It’s honestly not a bad episode. It does what a pilot is supposed to do. It sets the tone, introduces us to the characters, and lets us know what the series will be about. I just wasn’t ready for all those questions to be answered when I watched the pilot.
Favorite Character: Ricky Bowen
Tumblr media
Ricky Bowen stole the show and my heart.
Ricky got off on the wrong foot in the first episode. He’s pretty self-entitled and jealous when he finds out that Nini found someone else while she was at theater camp. Ricky feels like they weren’t supposed to see other people despite being on a break — sounds like Ross Geller to me.
Thankfully, over the course of the season, Ricky works through his feelings and sheds that Ross Geller, self-entitled attitude. Though he’s sad that Nini has moved on from him, he’s more upset that he’s lost her as a friend since the two have been inseparable since kindergarten.
He really goes through a huge character development transformation. Sure, he tried out for the musical in the hopes of winning back Nini but by the end of the season, he’s cultivated a new love for theater.
He found a home away from home and true friends who will be there for him no matter what. Plus, he gets to have Nini back in his life which is the ultimate win for Ricky.
One of the things I really loved about Ricky is his ability to be vulnerable. He’s definitely a character who wears his heart on his sleeve. It’s easy to tell when he’s angry, upset, and happy. We see him cry when he finds out that his parents are getting a divorce. We see him struggle to come to terms with the fact that his mother has moved on so quickly.
And he’s not only vulnerable in the safety of his house but, he’s also vulnerable in public. In episode nine, we see him visibly upset when he discovers that his mom has invited her new boyfriend to his opening night without telling Ricky.
Another reason I love Ricky is that he’s not afraid to confide in others or ask for help. He shares his feelings and frustrations about Nini to Big Red who listens to his endless rants and doesn’t complain. He confides in Gina when he learns that his parents are splitting up. And when everything is going wrong in the middle of the production, he reaches out to Nini because she’s the only one who will make him feel okay.
Ricky is what every teenage boy (fictitious and real) should aspire to be.
Least Favorite Character: E.J. Caswell
Tumblr media
E.J.’s character is really interesting. He’s described as being a “jock-type theater enthusiast” which is basically Troy Bolton. Given this and the fact he’s just finished a summer at theater camp where he played the lead, he feels like he’s a shoo-in for the lead role. Of course, that doesn’t happen and E.J. spends the rest of the season being #bitter.
He’s upset that he didn’t get cast as the lead and instead is cast as Chad and he’s worried that Ricky is going to steal Nini from him. Of course, no one can steal a person from another person but E.J.’s behavior makes it pretty easy for Nini to realize that he’s not the one for her.
E.J. is a typical jealous-paranoid boyfriend. He’s so worried about losing Nini that instead of showing her all the reasons why she should stay with him, he instead drives a wedge between them by being manipulative.
Ricky may start off as the Ross Geller, but E.J. quickly takes over that title.
E.J. does begin to evolve over the season but it’s a more gradual and cringeworthy transformation than Ricky’s is. E.J. apologizes to Nini for what he’s done to her and telling the truth gives him such a rush that he begins confessing to every little thing he’s done wrong through social media posts. This causes his social media followers to plummet and makes him severely insecure. How Gen-Z of him.
With his self-esteem already in the dumps, E.J. makes things worse for himself when he snoops in Miss Jenn’s binder and learns why he wasn’t cast as Troy Bolton. E.J. then tries to prove her wrong which doesn’t go well either.
Honestly, E.J. only has two redeeming qualities at the end of the season. One, he did eventually leave Nini alone. That’s a pretty big one considering fictional and real-life men tend to continue to pursue a woman even when they’ve said no a hundred times. I appreciate E.J. for respecting Nini’s wishes and backing off.
The other thing I really did love about E.J. was that he was (most likely) the one responsible for getting Gina back to East High for the opening night. This is one of the first times we see him be truly selfless. There’s nothing in it for him. Gina’s presence doesn’t affect him or his performance. And yet, he knows that his cast is missing Gina — and he probably is too.
When E.J. flies Gina out for opening night, we finally see him embrace the “We’re All In This Together” motto.
My hope for E.J. going forward is that we continue to see him mature and grow into a generous person instead of one that is so caught up with his own issues that he doesn’t care about anyone else.
Favorite Pairing: Ashlyn and Big Red
Tumblr media
Bet you weren’t expecting that one.
Listen, I love Nini and Ricky. They’re my favorite troupe come true (childhood friends to lovers), they understand each other on a deep level, they’re always there for each other, and they’re just downright adorable.
It’s hard for me to say they’re my second favorite couple because I really do love ‘Rini,’ but Ashlyn and Big Red really won me over.
To me, Ashlyn and Big Red embody what a high school love story should be. They’re innocent and playful. Half the time they’re unsure of if they’re flirting with each other or just being friendly.
Honestly, their dialogue is what really sealed the deal for me that they were my favorite pairing. They’re always so sweet together. They make the most subtle compliments sound like true poetry.
Big Red: “How do you light up an entire room?”
Ashlyn: “You walk into it.”
I mean, come on! How cute are they!
Sure, Nini and Ricky got each other cute and heartfelt gifts but Big Red got Ashlyn a giant bouquet of flowers! And they weren’t even a thing!!!
And then there’s the end credit scene during episode 10 that completely sealed the deal.
Big Red and Ashlyn understand each other. They’re both the underdogs of the series.
Ashlyn’s outgoing and talented but she’s never even talked about in regards to being the lead. She’s constantly in the shadows of her cousin E.J. who jeopardizes her friendship with Nini and the rest of the cast. And she doesn’t really mind. She stays in her lane, writers her music, does her thing, and really, is just happy to be involved.
Big Red ended up on the crew for the production because he had no other place to be. Ricky is his best (and only) friend and the only way the two of them could spend time together after Ricky gets cast was to join the production. It’s not what he thought he would be doing but he learns to love it — just like Ricky does. Big Red excels and ends up coming out of the production with a group of friends who truly love and care about him. I also love that through his character we got to see some of the tech side of high school theater. As a former high school technical theater kid, I loved that about the show.
Even though Big Red and Ashlyn aren’t an official thing yet, I ship them 110%. I can’t wait to see them develop and hopefully explore a relationship in season 2.
Complaints
Tumblr media
High School Musical: The Musical: The Series really took me by surprise because I fully expected to hate it. I’m glad I didn’t. Given this, I really don’t have many complaints — they’re more knit-picky things.
I was sort of disappointed that we didn’t get a dress rehearsal episode. After the disaster that was the tech rehearsal, it would have been nice to see them get to practice one time through in the gym where opening night would be. If they would have done a dress rehearsal it would have given us a chance to see more of the High School Musical production. Or, if the creative team didn’t want to make the series longer, the dress rehearsal could have even been just the first act and then the second act could have been the opening night episode. I just feel that a dress rehearsal is an important part of theater and it was a shame we didn’t get to see this cast go through the dress rehearsal struggle.
I was really sad the characters Kelsey and Ryan didn’t get attention in this production. Kelsey’s role was completely nonexistent in this production. On one hand, I understand that the cast was already huge and adding a Kelsey would have made it larger. But I still missed her. It’s also worth noting that Ashlyn’s character is very similar to who Kelsey was in the film. Perhaps, the creators felt that they didn’t need to cast a pretend Kelsey because the show already had a Kelsey-like presence with Ashlyn.
If Ashlyn embodied Kelsey, then Carlos embodies Ryan. Carlos was the choreographer and Miss Jenn’s right-hand man. Ryan is very into choreography and is always willing to help Miss. Darbus in the originals. Plus, in High School Musical 2, he acts as the choreographer for the talent show.
Unlike Kelsey, who was nonexistent in the production, there was someone playing Ryan but we never learn anything about him. I think it would have been fun, fresh, and interesting if Seb would have played both Sharpay and Ryan. Truthfully, that’s what I thought was happening since he sang both parts of “Bop to the Top.” They could have split him and had one side of his wardrobe/make-up Sharpay inspired and the other side Ryan inspired. A missed opportunity if you ask me.
I wanted more character development for some of our characters. Ashlyn is so interesting and she mentions she does all these other things outside of just theater but we never get to see her beyond the walls of the theater. I hope we get to learn more about her home life and her other hobbies in season 2.
I also wanted more development when it comes to Seb and Carlos’s relationship. Yes, I am ecstatic that Disney went there and made a same-sex couple canon (something the original films were never able to do) but it’s not just enough for them to exist. They need screen time. They need a story. I want Seb and Carlos’s relationship to be just as important as Nini/Ricky and Ashlyn/Big Red. Fingers cross season 2 redeems themselves.
Another knit-pick, I wasn’t a fan of the changed “We’re All In This Together” choreography. The dance in the original is so iconic. I can still do it 14 years later! I felt betrayed when they didn’t do the exact choreography. I appreciate the show wanting to bring a new take to the production but this was one thing that shouldn’t have been changed.
My biggest critique isn’t about the plot of the series but the title as a whole. Even though I love saying High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, it’s the dumbest name ever. It’s clear that they were trying to cash in on the original High School Musical pandemonium. I’m sure it worked, but I also think it narrowed the reach the series could have had.
Not to mention it’s going to complicate season two. The series title makes sense for season one because they are putting on a production of High School Musical: The Musical but what happens when they are not putting on a High School Musical production? Tim Federle, the creator, already confirmed that season 2 won’t be about the beloved franchise. So now what?
Personally, I think the show should have been called East High Drama or something like that. It would have resonated with High School Musical fans but also wouldn’t have put the show in such a box.
I’m interested to see if the series will be renamed ahead of the second season. Or if it’ll be named something like High School Musical: (INSERT NEW MUSICAL NAME): The Series instead.

Tumblr media
Obviously, there were a lot of things I loved about the High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. I could probably go one for days, so I’m gonna try to keep this list reserved for the highlights.
I absolutely loved the fact that the show was able to distinguish itself from the original films. I loved that they included original music and I loved it, even more, when I found out that Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett got to write “Just for a Moment.”
Another thing I was really excited about is that they didn’t really drag on the “love triangle” too much. It was there in the first few episodes but after E.J. betrays Nini, she breaks up with him and that’s that. Sure, both boys are still actively pursuing her but she’s not pursuing either of them. It’s still a love triangle I guess, but it doesn’t feel like a cliche one.
I loved that they allowed Seb to play Sharpay. I thought that was genius and amazing. It’s a shame that they’re not going to do High School Musical 2 because he would have killed “Fabulous.”
I applaud the show’s attempt to be diverse and inclusive. The characters are diverse in race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation but they’re also not defined by identities. I do think they could have done a bit more in terms of the LGBT inclusion but I applaud the moves they did make. The Homecoming scene between Seb and Carlos was everything.
I mentioned above that I liked that they included a technical aspect to the show. It could have played a bigger part but I’m glad it was mention to some extent.
One of my favorite moments of the entire series was the “Breaking Free” performance at the end. It’s such an iconic moment in the original film and I was worried it was going to fall flat in the series. It did not! Having the roles switch was genius. Instead of our Gabriela being the timid one on stage, our Troy is. Gabriela must coax him into joining her onstage. I think this move really embodies the series. We’re meant to believe that Nini = Gabriela and Ricky = Troy but they’re both more complex than that. I also felt it was very reminiscent of the “This Is Us/Gotta Find You” moment from the DCOM Camp Rock. Regardless, I loved it!
Oh, and I can’t forget Ms. Darbus’s original number. Though I did feel it was oddly placed, I thought it was an amazing song and a wonderful moment for Ashlyn to shine.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. I am definitely a fan of this new era of Wildcats and can’t wait for season 2. Speaking of season 2, Disney+ announced that High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will return with new episodes in Fall 2020!
For now, you can stream the first season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series on Disney+.

I love your blog bcz i see sm ppl talking drama here ilysm. You know this old dasha/cyr/mina thing. I never knew they were in a poly relationship and that it was the actual matter lmao. I want your opinion on Dasha (if you want to) because she really doesn't seem that innocent to me. Ik it's old af but dasha went ranting again on twitter. Its so petty to fight over "clothing style" like you're not in high school lmao get your shit together
ty!! :) and LMAO dasha is fucking sociopathic, i used to like her but after this drama like.... she’s so manipulative and twisted. it’s insane, after edwin makes this really long video filled with insanely shitty stuff she did and all she has to cling on to and the first thing she addresses is ‘i didn’t steal ur style mina!!!!! this is so important!!!!’ like 1. there are side by side pics that aren’t just similar aesthetics but literally exact same poses etc. and 2. she changed her style to fit minas even before she came to LA. anyways, i think cyr needs to get her the hell out of his life seeing that she probably contributes to his depression/shit he’s going through rn

Thanks for the link! I read it all and I've a few thoughts. 1) the abuse is visible tho so subtle it's invisible to someone who can't relate which isn't a coincidence bc 2) I bet the writers aren't even aware they're writing abuse? Bc their relationship comes off as so ~romantic~ in that way where obsession/abuse is wrapped up as ~true love~, you know the one 3) this is INCREDIBLY dangerous bc even if someone is in a non-abusive relationship, they can still come out damaged bc they think (...)
(2) submitting themselves to someone romantically is true love. Except it's not? This relationship I'm in now is the first where I'm not under any pressure from the guy to follow his will or perform the way he wants, like before I don't think it was abusive but I just felt like I didn't have much of a choice objecting? Like I'd do stuff to keep him around, in one case apologise frantically or in another, stick around after being cheated on etc. Not that u care about my personal stuff but (...)
(3) it's just that I hate for abuse/obsessive relationships to be romanticised cos they're not!!! I don't think pll has a truly healthy relationship tho? Even if you think of the parents maybe only Emily's parents has a healthy relationship. I'm so!! Mad!!
Sorry for the rant lmao feel free to not even read it I just wanna get it out. Like. I hate the tv trope of "but I love him!" Like I know it happens in real life (I've been there too) but bc of that it's all /all the more/ important to NOT display it in fiction!! Bc people (especially girls) will see this stuff and think "oh but I'm so in love!!" and think it justifies everything they're being put through. Like I could've made it out of 2 relationships healthy and well if not for that (...)
(...) but instead I believed in the ~romance~ so much I wrecked myself so much and even now in a much healthier relationship it's still in my system. Sorry for blabbering lmao it's just the spoby thing set me off
Trust me, you don’t gotta apologize for rants like these to me. I absolutely agree. Because that’s the thing, like, if I had seen actual health relationships portrayed in media, maybe I wouldn’t have gotten so caught up in one that wasn’t. Because I genuinely had no idea until several years after we broke up the last time.
And it is frustrating because you’re right, they are probably fully unaware what they’re writing and honestly, no shade to Troian or Keegan, but I don’t think they know either because they do promote it and talk about how they’re soulmates and stuff but the thing is, you can love someone so much and have it not be enough. Love isn’t always enough. And everyone has different definitions of love, too. I would be lying if I said I didn’t think my ex loved me. He did. It just wasn’t the right kind of love, it wasn’t the love I needed or wanted, it was an abusive love and people kind of assume that if someone is abusive, they don’t know love. Maybe they don’t know “real” love but after ten years with this guy, yeah, of course I believe he loved me, you know? :/
I was listening to 7 Things by Miley Cyr*s the other day and it occurred to me, like, all the bad things she’s listing are so much more important than the ones she’s listening that she likes and it’s things like that that really fuck up a young girls mind. Love just isn’t always enough.

Remember My RANT About the Wire?
Less than a month ago I was fuming about a shorted underground wire at my home. It's very important for you to realize I didn't build the home I live in at this time. Oh how I can't wait to build my next new home!
CLICK or TAP HERE to read what happened a month ago.
Now peer at this photo:
You're looking at the shorted wire I extracted from the rocky soil.
Do you want to know exactly what happened? I thought so.
CLICK or TAP HERE to read the autopsy report.
You absolutely want to read the report and look at the STUNNING PHOTOS. The other reason is Mike Cyr, a virtual friend from northern Maine, wrote to me with a time-tested method to PREVENT shorts in underground wires.
Wait until you read what Mike's electrician does.
Debba and the $300 Gift Card
Two months or so ago, I asked you to help provide some data about indoor portable dehumidifiers. You and hundreds of others responded!
I offered up a $300 Amazon gift card to help make it worth your while. You were assigned a unique number as your answers were recorded.
After the deadline passed, I went to random.org and used their random-number generator to pick the winner of the gift card.
It was Debba.
Here's what Debba sent me after she received it:
Dear Tim,
Your envelope just came in today's mail (we're last on the route). Thank you for all you sent along. I am happy to have the NEFR patch that you personally designed. It's quite handsome. I enjoy reading your ham radio columns, and now I have a patch.
And I am excited to have a piece of ancient mica. Because your degree was in Geology, I know you have considerable interest in this, so it makes the mica even more special.
I guess I don't have to describe the feeling of "winning" the gift card. What a wonderful timely surprise this is. My first grandchild arrived in February, and now Emma is needing a crib at home and one at Grammy's when she visits. This card will go nicely towards the two beds.
Thank you again, Tim. This all has been lots of fun, and I so appreciate it.
Sincerely, Debba
Debba, I'm so glad the gift card will be put to such a great cause for Emma's slumber!
Prefabricated Wall Panels - Super Precise
It seems like eons ago that we were putting up the factory-built prefabricated wall panels at my daughter's new home.
The winter conditions made job-built walls very challenging. What might have taken a week or more in the field, was accomplished in hours.
CLICK or TAP HERE to WATCH a video I made about the wall panels.
What did you think? My guess is you'll be convinced you should use these on your next job - even a large room addition! With skilled labor as rare as a white moose, you'll want precise factory-built walls on your job.
CLICK or TAP HERE to discover more about HOW MUCH THEY COST and WHAT LUMBER COMPANY near you can supply these for you.
That's quite enough for the last weekend in July. Party time today and tomorrow!
