46. share a scene of a story that you haven’t published yet

I’m not sure if this is just asking for a summary of a scene or a sneak peek so here’s a small bit from the opening scene of the opus!

June 1990

He watched her with a withdrawn sort of fascination. She was small, slight, and rather plain in an oversized latex smock and paper scrubs. Perhaps in any other situation she wouldn’t stand out very much. But with a scalpel poised high in her dainty, latex-covered fingers, her shoulders squared, and her voice ringing with clinical clarity, she commanded attention. The ten-or-so cadets surrounding her watched with near palpable enthusiasm, blue notebooks open wide, as she spoke, lowered the scalpel, and separated the incised flap of skin from the cadevers chest. He turned away briefly, cleared his throat.

“I’m looking for Dana Scully.”

She turned, scalpel raised– the blade glistening with a cocktail mix of methanol, formaldehyde, and just a hint of blood– and eyed him with a thinly veiled annoyance at his interruption.

“Can I help you, Agent?”

“Mulder,” he supplied, realizing a moment later that she wasn’t asking. He held up the file in his hand. “Yeah, I uh, I was looking for the autopsy report on Paula Abbott. Agent Patterson said you were the reporting pathologist.”

47. how many unfinished ideas/stories are you working on at the same time?

I have notes all over about ideas to write or to incorporate into wips. I keep one word doc full of random lines and plots that come to me during the day, otherwise I’ll forget them completely. Currently, I have maybe 3 or 4 actual wips and a couple other ideas that I really wanna do soon. The problem lies in deciding which one(s) I want to work on and finish first.

48. three spoilers for (insert story title)

So I’m guessing that I get to pick the story since I don’t have any wips officially on here yet haha. I’ll just choose opus again bc it’s my biggest piece and I think my followers are vaguely familiar with it.

- So obviously Mulder and Scully meet prior to Pilot, as mentioned above. They do the horizontal mambo after getting drunk af pretty soon after that (bc we love a cliche! Also my drunk Scully is a dynamite who knows what she wants and she’s super fun to write)

- They don’t just bone! They consult and become friends. Scully helps Mulder in capturing John Lee Roche (which is one of my favorite things I’ve written in the opus so far).

- uhhh they fool around a lot even after Pilot but don’t bangbang again until after Tooms.

49. writing advice

This may sound odd coming from me but I would say just to relax. Take as much time as you need. Try not to feel pressured with perceived expectations or trying to be perfect. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Find or create a space where you feel calm and focused. What you’re meant to write will come to you in time. And my messages and ask are always open for anyone who wants to talk shop! I’m also down for swapping emails to help consult on any pieces anyone may want some help with. I’m not a seasoned beta but I’ll help if I can!

Labor Day Labor Challenge

Your challenge, should you chose to accept it, is to set a fic on Labor day. On the holiday that celebrates workers, we’re asking you to write about a different kind of labor - the labor that immediately precedes a birth.

Challenge Requirements

One of your characters, canon to the X-Files or otherwise, suddenly finds herself (or hey, himself if you prefer) in labor on Labor day. Unfortunately, something [your choice of what] makes getting to the hospital in time an unlikely prospect

So your second character, a canon character, oversees the birth. This canon character may be someone who has already delivered someone’s child like Dana Scully M.D. or Reyes, or it can be someone with no experience whatsoever, like Mulder, Skinner or the gunmen

If you’d like, you can give the situation a paranormal/supernatural twist

worst injury you ever had:

Broke my left little toe when I kicked a plank of wood; have no nail on my middle right finger when my brother slammed the door on my hand, ruptured discs in my lower back, torn tendon in left lower arm. But the most painful thing ever was bleeding nipples caused by poor breastfeeding technique. Ouch.

do you have any obsessions rn:

The X Files. 

do you tend to hold grudges against people who’ve wronged you:

I’m an elephant. But I don’t actively hold grudges. I tend to just cut people out if they’ve done or said something nasty.

Top five favorite moments that DONT include Mulder and/or Scully together.

1) Scully’s session with Karen Kosseff in “Irresistible” is honestly one of my favorite moments from the show that involves anybody.  It’s really well-acted, and I am very proud of Scully in it.

2) I generally enjoy episodes in which Scully interacts with old men, to the extent that I believe season eight would have been better than it was had they used an old man as the new partner.  The best in this genre is obviously Clyde Bruckman.

3) Mulder eating the sweet potato pie is a lot of fun.

4) “Improbable” is overall a favorite of mine, and I especially love the scene of Scully and Reyes hanging out with Burt Reynolds/God.

5) I don’t know if I’d technically call it a favorite since I don’t LIKE it, but Modell talking the cop into having a heart attack is seriously the creepiest and most haunting.
