Three Weddings and an Alien Invasion Challenge

Your challenge is to write about three weddings post-series that all happen the same day, and only two of them go smoothly.

Requirements:

One of the happy couples is Mulder and Scully, and their children are naturally part of the wedding party – is baby Mulder still en utero, or the flower girl or ring bearer?

The other happy couple is either another X-Files character(s) and their significant other, or two original characters.

The unhappy couple, who will have their wedding interrupted by a literal alien invasion (no cheating!) is your least favorite character and their spouse-to-be. Dig them up from the grave if necessary, we’re sure you’ll offer a plausible reason they’re alive and marrying.

You can write this story as a comedy or a sci-fi thriller. It’s up to you if this is meant to be a farce or an epic invasion fic.

Alex Comes in from the Cold Challenge

Your challenge is to write us a story about Alex Krycek being tasked by the Consortium to head a family as a cover for his spy activities.

Give him a “wife” of your choosing, someone we know or someone you create. And give him at least one child. The child can be borrowed, stolen, or if this assignment is very long in duration born.

And give the assignment an end date. Does he walk away in relief? Or does he fight to keep his sort-of family?

You can use any time frame for your story, even setting it season nine or later if you like.

But when something tragic happens to his friends later on, he unexpectedly ends up raising the child he never expected to be a real father to. Soon after the child’s birth he agreed to be his/her guardian if something happened, but he never expected anything to go wrong, so never planned for any of the things he's facing. Now what?

The Ugly Little Boy Challenge

Although this challenge borrows its title from Isaac Asimov, your task is not to write about a neanderthal child. Instead, you’ll write your tale about two people: a fiercely protective mother and her young human/alien hybrid son. Her determination will come in handy when her little boy draws attention from those she least wants to know about him.

If your mom isn’t an X-Files character herself, be sure that her path crosses with one or more of them.

If the character is Scully, consider writing fics for both this and The Thing She Carried challenges.

Skinner Jr. Challenge

Your challenge is to write a story in which the following is true:

Although Skinner was happy to help Scully rescue Mulder during I Want to Believe, they didn’t have a lot of time to catch up. In fact, Skinner didn’t get to share his big news with them – since he’d seen them last, he’d become a dad!

So set your story between IWTB and My Struggle IV (either literally any time between those episodes or as a missing scene for either one), and have Skinner finally get the chance to tell them all about his son or daughter who entered his life after The Truth.

Things to consider as you pen your tale

Is Skinner Jr. a boy or a girl?

Is it Skinner’s biological child or adopted?

Is Skinner a single dad, or does he have a spouse helping him raise their child? If he’s married, is she or he anyone that they know?

Love for the Lovelorn Crossover Challenge

There are several X-Files characters who just never seemed to catch a break romantically. Not even after seven years like Mulder and Scully! And you know, this is also the plight of many other characters in other stories, come to think of it. Lots of lonely hearts out in the world of fiction and it’s such a shame. I think you should remedy that, dear writers. In this challenge you will play cosmic matchmaker to a pair of characters, one from The X-Files universe, and one not.

Challenge Elements

Select an X-Files character who is single either throughout the whole show like Frohike or Langly, or most of the time they’re part of the series (e.g. you could use Skinner, for example, given his wife mysteriously disappeared early on, or Maggie Scully who is widowed in season one). And also select a character from another fandom - book, tv show, movie, comic, or video game* - who is similarly without a significant other for your X-Files character to fall for. Both het and slash pairings are okay.

Once you have your two characters write a story that is a crossover between The X-Files and your second character’s fandom.

and

Give these two characters a family. In other words, they should have at least one child, or be expecting a baby. They can be happily married/living together or not…just because you’re giving them a family doesn’t mean that has to be true lasting love if you don’t want it to be.

Any other characters from either/both fandoms can be included in your story as secondary characters.

* If you can think of another type of fandom this list overlooks - say ads and you want to set up Progressive’s Flo with Frohike - you’re more than welcome to use it
