hello! i fell out of pathologic circles quite some time ago and i felt the impulse to come back to it and was wondering if you have any recommendations for fanfics and/or fanart?

favorite thing about them

I love how he genuinely cares about other people in his own way. Like he wants to create a cure for death so that he can ensure that nobody dies??? He gets stuck in the town during the plague and decides to try and help save people anyways, even after they refuse to listen to him/try to kill him/etc.???? He’s just genuinely a good person who’s just as much a victim of circumstance as the other two healers and is forced to do bad things because of that.

least favorite thing about them

I mean.... the racism and the sexism from classic hd, and the classism in both classic hd and patho 2 (patho 2 Daniil doesn’t seem anywhere near as racist/sexist as classic hd Daniil at least). Like sir.... you’re not actually making yourself look better, you’re just being an asshole lmao.

favorite line

“An angel is a nightmare. Their purpose is to instill primal, oppressive horror. I think if angels existed, they would resemble a divine pillar of light -- from the heavens to earth. Devoid of anything remotely human.” This whole exchange was *so good* cuz it’s the first time in patho 2 that we really see him scared to the point of losing his composure. Before that he had maintained this façade of being totally in control and thinking logically, even when things were going to shit, but the moment the situation gets handed over to the inquisition to handle he feels like he isn’t in control anymore and is scared and it really shows another side of him. Also not to read too into meta but the connection between him viewing angels as a “divine pillar of light” and the theatrical themes is very interesting, and I wonder if it’s meant to be a metaphor for spotlights??? Idk

Him and Yulia!!! They both seem to be the most logic-focused of the Utopians and they both seem to value truth as important. I can def see them doing like a book club or something together and discussing philosophy or whatever smart ppl do. Also mlm/wlw solidarity lol.

Him and Artemy lol. Narrative foils who both view the world so differently, coming together after working for a shared goal of protecting people and learning to appreciate their differences??? And maybe fall in love??? Love that for them! Also there’s so much gay subtext, especially in classic hd in Artemy’s route.

Especially when he’s being written/drawn as transmasc and especially when it’s done in the context of making him seem like this innocent little white man compared to characters like Artemy or Aspity or any other members of the Kin. That shit is nasty, please stop.

no nuance december i think one of the reasons shipping daniil and artemy is such a monolith in the pathologic fanbase is that a lot of people around here are either actively or passively trying to silence and alienate people, especially poc, who are uncomfortable with and criticize the problems inherent to that ship. like, i did not expect my answer about how people need to think more critically about it to become my most controversial post, but without gaining many notes at all it’s fundamentally changed my relationship with the fandom on here.

i don’t post serious anon hate i get or talk about it at the time as a rule against giving idiots any attention but i literally got a couple death threats and racist messages from that post going around and i’ve found over the past couple days a fair number of blogs that rb daniil/artemy that have blocked me without any history between us, as well as losing about 10% of my followers, not to mention the very interesting lack of notes on that post compared to my other hot takes that are easier for some of y’all to agree with and don’t tell you to examine how you personally interact with content you like. not to mention the flood of support that daniil/artemy content (especially writing) gets, compared to significantly less reach for non shipping content and content featuring women (although this isnt as bad as most other fandoms i think). on the flip side, i’ve heard from several people lately who tell me they love pathologic but they don’t engage with it online or stay on the fringes because of how pervasive totally uncritical daniil/artemy content is and how hard it can be to get any engagement when you don’t participate in that.

what does this mean for you, a daniil/artemy shipper? the least you can do is spend a few minutes thinking about the racial dynamic of their relationship and acknowledge it in your brain. i would recommend tagging it when you post or reblog it, because people who arent comfortable with it are epic and your life would be enriched if they followed you. i personally have “burakhovsky” blacklisted and i cherish my mutuals who tag it. i also recommend going out of your way to support people who make content that is non ship or even just not that ship (even if it’s not my content you’re supporting lol) to encourage them to keep making stuff they like. for daniil enjoyers, i’ve been working through crostiina’s “tempora mutantur et nos mutamur in illis” on ao3, which is SO COOL so far even though i’m not actively a daniil/peter fan. idk dude just support valid criticisms of things you like and make space for people who are negatively affected by the serious problems with it.

Noah Czerny knows a lot about healing, but he’s not omnipotent, and he’s a little tired of being asked to clean up everyone else’s messes. Declan Lynch doesn’t trust the crown. He especially doesn’t trust the crown with his little brother. Mysteriously, all of this leads to rather a lot of conflict.

And as annoying as that can be, tonight the lack of Ronan's breathing and shuffling around is even more infuriating. The Ties that Free Me by hokay / @pastelle-pvnk (M) - As easy as it would have been for Ronan to pick himself off the floor and drive to the comfort of the Barns, he couldn’t do it. There were a variety of factors in play, despite the heat (or maybe because of it), that were playing into Ronan’s decision and he didn’t have the willpower to put a stop to any of them.

Mosaic Broken Hearts by CyclesOfCie (M) - (NB: this one is unfinished and I don’t usually rec WIPs, but there’s just the epilogue pending, if I remember right) Adam is still struggling after years of abuse. Too many things in his life are difficult; The prospect of facing his father in court. The girlfriend who refuses to kiss him. Standing next to Gansey who shines so bright, that he’ll always be in his shadow. What Adam wants is something easy, something casual, which is why Ronan might be the worst choice for him at all, but also, the best.(Sort of Casual AU - very much leaning Canon’s way, though)

Promo Week - Team #21

This project is a gift for my wife, who told me about a single spark of an idea that included Ronan in a Henley with Adam and Gansey losing their minds because they’re all pining. I love her, and I made it into a cathartic love story.

Themes of grief speak volumes to me, and I've always used fandom as a way to explore the things left unspoken and pushed to the wayside in the things I love. This piece seemed apt to dive in and offer perspective on the long road to healing that never gets properly realized throughout the books. Of course, it didn't hurt that its focal point is my TRC OT3 and the potential for unbridled sass was unspeakably high.

The emotional, cathartic, pining Rodansey fic, with a heaping portion of Gangsey appreciation

Ronan had put out fresh towels for them, and he pressed one of them to his face, breathing in. Back at the trailer, his mother had used some kind of dryer sheets in a bright blue box that boldly proclaimed “summer fresh scent!” in yellow letters. The towels in Ronan Lynch’s bathroom actually smelled like summer the way Adam remembered it in Cabeswater, and he couldn’t help wondering if it was because Ronan dried them on a line outside or if he’d dreamed them specially for company. With Ronan, either was possible. Adam placed the towel back on the rod, straightening and smoothing it to his satisfaction, then made his way to the kitchen. There was a half full pot of coffee still warming on its hot plate, two mugs set out waiting to be used. The house had the feel of being empty but not vacant, quiet in a way that felt anticipatory. Adam wouldn’t have to worry about waking Ronan because he’d already gotten up and was likely out on the property fixing something or feeding something.

Adam smiled and picked up one of the mugs. On the outside, it said “[seductively takes off glasses]’ and on the inside lip, the punchline became, ‘wow you’re fucking blurry’. Adam set the cup back down again. That one was for Gansey. He picked up the one meant for him and turned it until he saw “And then Satan said, ‘put the alphabet in math.’” Perfect. He poured some coffee and doctored it from the mismatched creamer and sugar bowl, stirring thoughtfully with a spoon. Despite all the anxiety attempting to knot up his stomach, it felt like a faraway thing in this carefully prepared morning. Adam took a sip, stared into the contents of his mug and took a deep breath. He was surrounded by the magic of the Barns, ley line pulsing close by, Gansey and Ronan close by.
