CYOA Chapter 43 Snippet!
Remus Lupin: Morning, sorry to bother you if you're busy.
Lily Evans: Oh hi :)
Remus Lupin: Hi. I'd meant to speak to you alone this morning while Bea was in the shower but I didn't seem to get an opportunity.
Lily Evans: Lol yeah, I think Saniya has adopted you as their breakfast time book-discussion companion.
Remus Lupin: Saniya reads a shocking amount of smut.
Lily Evans: Yeah, word to the wise, don't ever mention the word "milk" around them if you don't want them to go off into peals of hysterical laughter. What did you want to talk about?
Remus Lupin: It's about your trip to Paris.
Lily Evans: Oh?
Remus Lupin: I was thinking of arranging for a present to be left in the hotel room for Beatrice, given that we haven't been together for very long and she's told me she likes romantic surprises, but I also don't want to infringe upon your quality time together or be a looming presence, so I thought I'd check with you first to make sure you're comfortable with it. Please don't feel as if you're under any pressure to approve of the idea if you don't.
Lily Evans: Oh, but I do approve. Beatrice would LOVE that, and it's not too pushy, unless you were thinking of pairing your gift with a note that says "I'm watching you," which doesn't seem like your thing.
Remus Lupin: I was thinking more along the lines of "Enjoy your trip, see you when you get back."
Lily Evans: Then that sounds perfect. Do you know what you'll get her? Because I have an idea if you want it.
Remus Lupin: Listen mate, Sirius suggested crotchless underwear. From you I will always take an idea.
Lily Evans: Okay, so it's going to seem really basic and unimaginative, but send her a box of macarons from Ladurée. I'm sure we can arrange it with the hotel. Or if we can't, Euphemia will, and you can pay her back. Bea has a real fondness for vacationing with a sense of place at all times, which really sounds odd but it just means that when she's in Spain, for example, the first thing she'll order at any restaurant is a portion of croquetas de jamon, or if she's in Germany she'll order cake and drink beer instead of wine, and when she's in Paris she likes to snack on macarons. Plus, her favourite show when we were teenagers was Gossip Girl and macarons are a REAL Blair Waldorf thing, just don't ever ask her if she ships Blair and Chuck because she hates Chuck and thinks Blair was meant to be with Dan. And don't ever, ever, under ANY circumstances, suggest that the reveal of Gossip Girl's identity made sense because you will bear witness to a rage that she is otherwise incapable of.
Remus Lupin: I watched a fair bit of Gossip Girl back in the day, believe it or not.
Lily Evans: Lol did you?
Remus Lupin: Well, Sirius did, and he'd hog the remote when we hung around at James's house. Eventually we all became rather fascinated.

Enchanting Experiences at Pico De Loro Beach and Country Club
Tumblr media
Our second day at Pico de Loro Beach and Country Club offered even more fun and exciting activities inside this luxury residential resort village (Read about our first day here). It was just my first time staying at Pico Sands Hotel and I was amazed to see so many different areas to explore and experience at Pico de Loro.
Tumblr media
Our morning started with a buffet breakfast at Pico Restaurant on the ground floor of Pico Sands Hotel. The buffet spread comes with an assortment of breads and jams to start your day. Soups, cereals, and salads are also on display.
Tumblr media
I prefer the more traditional Filipino breakfast with garlic rice and beef tapa as my main dish. They also had pork and beans, fish fillet, chicken afritada, and more together with coffee or hot chocolate.
Tumblr media
There's also a dedicated Egg Station outside at the garden area with pancakes and waffles as well.
Tumblr media
Guests can choose to sit indoors or at the al fresco garden area facing the lagoon. This is arguably the better choice especially if you want to be closer to nature as you enjoy your breakfast.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Since the Pico de Loro Country Club was just right next door, we couldn't resist playing another round of bowling. It would be more fun if we had our friends or barkada with us on this trip, so maybe we'll bring them along next time.
Tumblr media
We had lunch at the Sun Coral Café at the exclusive Pico de Loro Beach Club which is only for members and their accompanied guests. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine and homegrown Filipino favorites coupled with relaxed family-style service.
Tumblr media
We started with a sample of their Tapas Frias including canapes of Jamon Serrano and Manchego plus Smoked Salmon and Kesong Puti. It also included a pair of Croquetas de Espinacas Con Queso and Calamares a la Romana.
Tumblr media
I really liked the Sopa de Ajo bread soup with garlic, chorizo and egg. This soup dish is made with just simple ingredients but it all works well together.
Tumblr media
Look at all of the dishes they brought out just for the two of us! The Paella Negra con Camarones comes with shimp and squid ink and is good for sharing. Also on the table was the Lengua con Champignon which has beef tongue stewed in mushroom sauce and the Callos a la Madrileña with its beef tripe and chorizo. We also had the Beef Salpicao and the Pollo de Moruno chicken kebabs with yogurt drizzle.
Tumblr media
For dessert, our plate came with the Casidielles (P320), a walnut filled puff pastry which was served with Gelato de Crema Catalana (P250) using their homemade custard gelato.
Tumblr media
After our lunch, we went on a short ride to visit Pico de Loro's Eco Mangrove Forest where you can discovery nature's sanctuary with their guided mangrove tour. The Hamilo Coast is home to a 10-hectare mangrove forest, considered the largest in Nasugbu, Batangas. It has over 10,000 mangrove trees and vibrant biodiversity.
Tumblr media
With our expert guide educating us along the way, we explored different mangrove trees and mud crabs holes on the ground. We were supposed to go on a Mangrove Boat Tour along the river to witness the serene beauty of the forest and learn about mangroves, their importance to the eco system, and the wildlife that takes residence within it. However, the weather spoiled our plans yet again so we had to end our tour here.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
We had time to explore more of Pico de Loro so we went to the Boardwalk which serves as the best photo spot along the resort. We also visited the St. Therese Chapel of the Child Jesus just nearby with its breathtaking view of the coast.
Tumblr media
When we got back to the hotel, we were surprised to see this elegant and romantic setup that Pico Restaurant had prepared for us. Pico Sands Hotel offers Unique Private Dining experiences for its guests where you can have a private dinner setup at the gardens or a romantic starlit dinner by the beach.
Tumblr media
We were really impressed with our table setup so we were also excited to see the special dinner menu.
Tumblr media
For appetizers, we had the Alforno Melanzane with Toasted Focaccia (P320). This roasted eggplant and cheese dip was a tasty starter to whet our appetites.
Tumblr media
Next was the Italian Minestrone Soup topped with croutons and parmesan. I loved how rich and thick the soup was with its tomato base balanced by the cheese and bread.
Tumblr media
Our main entree uses Sustainable Gastronomy with its Sousvide Batangas Beef with herbs and Pan Seared Pompano fish in lemon caper sauce. These are sourced locally from neighboring farmers which bring livelihood opportunities to the community. It also comes with mashed sweet potato and roasted vegetables.
Tumblr media
Lastly, for dessert, we had the Chocnut Tiramisu (P320) which has coffee-soaked lady fingers in layers of cream. This was another delightful way to end our dinner.
Tumblr media
But our day was not yet done because we had our appointment for a couple's massage at Rain, The Spa located on the hotel's lobby floor.
Tumblr media
Pamper yourself at Rain, The Spa as their gentle touch of massage, the power of herbal remedies, and the magic of energy balancing restore your mind, body, and spirit. We were so tired from the day's activities so we were really looking forward to our relaxing massage.
Tumblr media
We had one of their Signature Spa Experiences, the 60-minute Awaken the Senses Massage. This is an aromatic massage where gentle hands work to ease tired muscles with a combination of deep comforting and relaxing strokes using specially blended oils. This led to a long and relaxing slumber for us that evening.
Tumblr media
Before we checked out on our last day, we had one more lunch at Pico Restaurant to power us through our journey back home. Chef Charles once again spoiled us with their exquisite menu.
Tumblr media
The Azurea Garden comes with balsamic coconut vinaigrette, alugbati, lettuce, turnips, mint leaves, radish, cashew, and kesong puti.
Tumblr media
It seemed like they saved the best for last because the Bulalosso is definitely a memorable main dish. This is the popular Batangas beef bone marrow or bulalo cooked ossobuco style. It is a sharing plate good for 4 persons but we managed to finish it by ourselves! That's how good it really is.
Tumblr media
We still had space for dessert so we ordered the Milo Dinosaur Gelato (P180) and the Strawberry Gelato (P180) to finish our lunch. We would like to thank Celine Arenillo, Cluster Communications Manager for Pico de Loro, Joseph, and SM Hotels for hosting our wonderful stay at Pico Sands Hotel. We have so many fond memories of our time here and we truly can't wait to go back.

Spanish Food Guide: Popular Tapas And Unique Foods To Satisfy Your Cravings
Tumblr media
When you think of Spain, have you not thought of Spanish food? Paella, gazpacho, Iberico ham, cocido, fabada… So many recipes have delighted everybody who visits Spain. Many people have tried extraordinary Spanish foods, such as Manchego cheese, Chorizo, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, and Wine, which leads to a demand for these products in restaurants and supermarkets. These factors have significantly contributed to how the world and its individuals view Spanish cuisine, among people's favorites worldwide. Many restaurants now serve authentic Spanish dishes, and Comida española products are traded online and offline. New Spanish restaurants are now opening everywhere, and more pubs, cafes, and bars now serve Spanish cuisine like tapas. These factors determine growth in the development of Spanish food in the industry. Now let's learn more about some famous traditional Spanish tapas and other unique Spanish foods : Spanish Tapas Tapas can look like almost anything. There are countless classic tapas dishes to select from. However, some tapas recipes are so famous that you'll find them almost anywhere. Here are some of the best Spanish tapas that foodies love to rave about: Gambas Al Ajillo A classic dish that involves garlic shrimp sautéed quickly in sizzling olive oil. Garlic, chili peppers, and peppercorn sauce give a lightly spiced flavor to the dish. You can get Gambas al Ajillo with a sweet tang of sherry or a smoky paprika flavor. It'sIt's best enjoyed spread over a slice of toast, which soaks up the oily sauce and adds crunch to the texture of the prawns. Chorizo Al Vino If you've never tried chorizo palacios (Spanish sausage) cooked in wine, you're in for a treat with chorizo al vino. This smoky, tasty dish is quite famous for a reason. The sausage infused with paprika and garlic takes on an extra-rich taste by braising in Spanish red wine. Many Spanish bars serve chorizo al vino with a side of crusty bread so that you can relish every last bit of the smoky sauce. Jamón Ibérico It's a traditional tapa made from pigs that graze on olives, acorns, and chestnuts for their adult lives. To acquire the best jamon iberico, Spanish artisans cure their ham for at least one year. Some Spanish ham is cured for more than four years before it makes it to your plate. All that time pays off: an incredible plate of jamón ibérico has a delicious, rich taste and smooth texture. You can find a top-quality slice of cured ham by how much marbling, or intramuscular fat, runs through the piece. Patatas Bravas Patatas bravas are the same as the French fries of tapas, but they're sliced into thick sections and fried in olive oil until the edges turn deep brown and crispy. An excellent helping of patatas bravas will be crisped on the outer and soft on the inside. Depending on where you order this dish, your sauces may vary. Traditional Spanish Croquetas These tasty breaded fritters come with a variety of ingredients. With a crispy fried shell that covers a creamy filling, croquetas or croquettes are the best tapas for any occasion. Tapas recipes call from vegetables to shellfish to cheeses. Different Spanish restaurants offer distinct flavors, so you'll want to try one of them. Unique Spanish Foods Up until now, we’ve been discussing all the amazing traditional spanisches Essen that everyone should try. Well, now, there are a few more that you should know. These might sound slightly odd, but they're worth a try. Let's know about some unique Spanish foods: Rabo De Toro This one is also a famous Spanish food. There are many people who think it's odd, despite its being a tasty dish. It'sIt's nothing more than a bull's tail cooked in a stew. Pipas De Girasol This one is actually just a snack, but it's a snack that often surprises foreigners. pipas de girasol is no more than sunflower seeds, but they're one of the most common snacks in Spain. People will have full bags of them.

... Once again, @4lmagitana and his henchmen in the kitchen pleased these palates with a godly lunch: the traditional and delicious Zulian patacón, this time stuffed with chicken, with plenty of cheese, ham, avocado and other vegetables, and lots of sauce, to the taste of each diner. The entrees, with the exception of the inevitable tequeños, were Spanish: an unbeatable Iberian ham and exquisite croquettes. And the eccentric touch was that of some chopped and peppers peppers , of Ukrainian tradition. And of course, wine, lots of wine. Beso Beso by Chef Rob Pengson Launches New Menu
Celebrity Chef Rob Pengson makes his grand homecoming as he takes the helm at Beso Beso - the restaurant he started in 2019 inside his culinary school Aleanza Institute of Arts. With the global pandemic disrupting everyone’s plans and with Chef Rob encountering some health problems last year, he believes now is the best time to return to Beso Beso as he brings new life to the Spanish asador, tapaos and, paella culture in the Philippines.
Beso Beso is a hidden gem located along Chino Roces Avenue Extension in Makati, just a few steps away from EDSA. The restaurant is on the second floor inside the Aleanza Institute of Arts, the third culinary school founded by Chef Rob Pengson which serves as a breeding ground for his budding chefs and service staff. This is why Beso Beso has been awarded as one of the best restaurants in the country by Tatler Dining Philippines for two years in a row.
Beso Beso serves dinner from 5:00pm to 10:00pm on Tuesdays to Sundays, and while reservations are suggested, walk-ins are also welcome. The cozy dining space can accommodate from 30 to 50 guests which makes it suitable for romantic dinner dates or intimate gatherings with friends and family.
They also have two smaller VIP rooms which can host more private functions and events. The restaurant and bar also comes complete with a fine selection of wines and spirits to accompany any occasion.
The best seats in the house would probably be the ones just in front of the open kitchen, where you can watch Chef Rob and his crew in their element. The restaurant is small enough that you can basically see everything that goes on inside the kitchen, something akin to a chef’s table, and this is part of the dining experience here at Beso Beso. Expect Chef Rob himself to be interacting with the guests on most nights as he works his magic at Beso Beso. The Hungry Kat was proud to be one of the few guests last week to preview the new menu Chef Rob has created for his return. He describes the cuisine at Beso Beso to be 60% Spanish, while anything goes for the rest of the 40%. It’s a playful and more creative take on our Spanish culinary influences combined with Filipino flavors.
Chef Rob even brought out some of the ingredients he will be using for our dinner that evening. He eagerly explained his techniques and ideas to create this new menu for Beso Beso that his guests will surely enjoy.
My husband and I were happy to welcome the coming long weekend with this special dinner at Beso Beso. The new menu will be officially launched on June 6, 2023, but don’t worry because most of these are already available now on their daily a la carte and tasting menus as Chef Rob takes Spanish cuisine to a whole new level.
We first got a taste of their Croqueta de Manchego Curado. These Croquetas are made with hard ewe's milk Spanish cheese from Lamancha Spain. We sampled three croqueta variants served with boquerones, jamon, and truffle honey.
I could really taste the high quality Manchego cheese with each bite. Among the three, my favorite was the croqueta topped with jamon which balances its sweet and salty flavors.
Next up was the heavenly Huevos Rotos which comes with poached egg and chorizo combined with black truffles, crouton and Spanish paprika. This was just a simple poached egg dish but I have never tasted egg as delicious as this one. The black truffles and paprika gives it a distinct flavor that feels both sophisticated yet very homey.
The Gazpacho is a unique Spanish dish as this cold soup seems like it is both an appetizer and a dessert. The chilled tomato soup comes with gazpacho sorbet served inside a red piquillo pepper. On top of it is anchovy. migas and basil. There’s a spicy kick to the broth but not too much, especially as you bite into the cold sorbet. It’s really a fascinating mix of textures and flavors.
Chef Rob then took us behind the scenes inside the kitchen to see how they were preparing one of their specialties, the Paella del Dia or Paella of the day.
For that evening, we were fortunate to be presented with their very special Paella de Paloma. This unique Pigeon Paella comes topped with French pigeon, confit leg, blood sausages, mushrooms, and cabbage. Chef Rob even adds some gochujang to give it an Asian twist. The result is a very flavorful paella that can be described as one of the best in Metro Manila.
The good news is that you can have their Paella del Dia for FREE just by mentioning that you want it! Just order anything from the menu and tell them that you read on The Hungry Kat that you can get a free paella. They will give you a complimentary serving as simple as that.
Next up is the Iberico Secreto which is often called the wagyu of pork. This very tender and flavorful pork comes from a thin cut of meat hidden behind the shoulder blade of an Iberico pig. It is cooked sous vide for 8 hours making it very juicy and tasty. The dish also comes with mashed potatoes and a teriiyaki glaze.
Finally, the highlight of our dinner at Beso Beso was the Chuleton. This is 1.2 kilos of 32-day dry-aged prime grass fed Irish rib eye steak. The premium beef is charcoal grilled and can be served medium rare or medium for up to 4 persons. I really love this rib eye steak which is also served with romaine lettuce, garlic milk and onions in the old Basque tradition.
To cap off our amazing preview dinner, the Leche Y Mango is a fitting conclusion with its milk and vanilla bean combiined with mango and pasion fruit. This is a sweet and refreshing dessert to end our very indulgent dinner.
We would like to thank Chef Rob Pengson for personally hosting our early dinner preview of his exciting new menu at Beso Beso. Chef Rob continues to create new legacies at his culinary schools and restaurants, so this new chapter will be another opportunity for old and new customers alike to enjoy his kitchen masterpieces. Congratulations Chef Rob on your upcoming grand launch!

Although the Philippines was under the Spanish influence for almost 400 years, there are only a few establishments offer authentic Spanish dishes. So, we are happy to discover @wobblypan Bistro which offers presentable authentic Spanish (boxed) food trays for pick-up & delivery (in addition to its bistro-style dine-in at @shangrilaplazaofficial ). We ordered the Half Paella Valenciana and Half Paella Negra (1,580 php/5-6 pax), Paella Marinera (790/2-3pax) and Croquestas De Jamon Serrano (290 php). All of them were still warm upon arrival considering the 10 km distance to our home. As you can see, the dishes are topped w/ authentic ingredients and portions are more than approximated. All the paella variants were satisfyingly flavorful. The croquetas is also a cheesy and savory delight. (swipe to 👀 more) Wobbly Pan also has professional service. Coordinating w/ them was such a breeze. We ordered for multiple households & all the orders were delivered timely & accurately. We highly recommend this & we will probably order again! 正宗的西班牙海鲜饭和炸丸子。 #tsinoyfoodies #wobblypan #spanishfood #paellaph #paella #partytrayph #fooddeliveryph #croquetas #universalfoodlover #paellanegra #paellavalenciana #groupmealsph (at Wobbly Pan Spanish Bistro, Shangri-La Plaza) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cbu2ZFZpaio/?utm_medium=tumblr
