I, Tonya (2017)
⛸️-ing Goes ⬆️ in 🚬
Directed by Craig Gillespie, this biographical film is about the personal life and career of former Olympic figure skater Tonya Harding and the aftermath of the infamous attack on competitor Nancy Kerrigan.
Margot Robbie plays the title role while the supporting cast includes: Allison Janney as Tonya’s mother LaVona Harding, Sebastian Stan as Tonya’s husband Jeff Gillooly, Julianne Nicholson as Tonya’s skating coach Diane Rawlinson, Paul Walter Hauser as Tonya’s bodyguard Shawn Eckardt and Bobby Cannavale in a special appearance as reporter Martin Maddox.
Margot Robbie (whose performance garnered an Oscar nomination for Best Actress) gives a thoroughly dedicated performance to the role of a fierce yet disgraced champion. Allison Janney (whose performance won her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress) is insanely brilliant as an unloving mother prone to verbal and physical abuse… her award-winning performance is literally the bomb. What’s more, the tumultuous relationship between mother and daughter is basically the core of the movie. Sebastian Stan is amazing as a violent spouse whose harebrained scheme was the indirect cause for the downfall of Tonya’s career. Paul Walter Hauser (who also played Horace in Craig Gillespie’s next directorial project known as Cruella) is hilarious as a crafty bodyguard who is more than willing to do whatever it takes to gain publicity for Tonya (and himself). Even Bobby Cannavale is quite the comical scene-stealer in the present-day scenes.
The narrative is depicted in the style of a mockumentary. Although the film is focused solely on Tonya’s skating profession, the story is told through a series of modern-day interviews. The interesting yet ironic thing about the movie is you expect Tonya and the people in her life to fess up about what really happened, but they prove to be unreliable narrators that each have different points of view contradicting one another. At the same time, the characters occasionally break the fourth wall to tell the audience what goes on inside their minds. All in all, you see a story within a story that adds dark humor to an overly dramatic storyline.
In terms of observing the psychology behind each individual, Tonya’s unapologetic attitude stems from a lack of sympathy due to her savage upbringing. Despite vigorous training in which she became the first American woman to land a triple Axel in competition, she wasn’t a very graceful contestant. LaVona’s cruel demeanor represents an emotionally disturbed person. Since the Harding family came from a poor background, LaVona, seeking a way out of such hardships, forced Tonya to skate at a very young age, even when she’d tell her daughter she wouldn’t amount to anything. Furthermore, LaVona used harsh criticism to inspire her daughter to stand out among the other skaters. Jeff Gillooly was a controlling person who concocted a plan to thwart Tonya’s latest competition to see if she might take him back following their divorce. Shawn Eckardt is a down-on-his-luck, unintelligent guy who took advantage of the situation by hiring a couple of crooks to physically assault Nancy Kerrigan. It was then afterwards that everything came crashing down on Tonya.
Aside from the psychological drama and absurdity, the skating is absolutely stunning on screen. The physicality of the jumps and spins are clearly down to a science, including the triple Axel (done in CGI due to its complex maneuver as explained by the characters). What’s really mind-blowing, however, is the way Margot Robbie portrays Tonya with such intensity both on and off the ice.
The film demonstrates the contrasting difference between fame and scandal. First thing to understand is that figure skating, like any sport, has its share of rough play. Back then, the Skating Association was particular about the appearance of each skater from around the world. Although Tonya was a sensation in the public eye, she skated with rage (as a result of being pushed to sink to that level by her mother). As such, she was ridiculed partly for her handmade outfits (as she was broke from the beginning), but mostly for her redneck reputation. That’s when Diane, aside from her coaching, encouraged Tonya to dress better and ease the tension to get a better score. As for the incident, Jeff was trying to pull a few strings with Shawn’s help to take the weight off Tonya’s shoulders in terms of rivalry. Because Tonya was accused of being involved in the attack, she was pressured into facing legal charges during the 1994 Winter Olympics, hence her entire life was hanging by a thread.
A killer soundtrack contains a list of hit songs from the ‘70s and ‘80s. The track list includes: “Devil Woman” by Cliff Richard, “Romeo & Juliet” by British rock band Dire Straits, ZZ Top’s “Sleeping Bag” (which Tonya actually used as an unconventional choice of performance music in some of her skating routines), “Barracuda” by Heart and “The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac to name a few. Cover versions of “Gloria”, “Dream a Little Dream of Me” and “The Passenger” are heard as well.
Finally, as mentioned earlier, you’re not going to get the whole truth out of this movie, but on the other hand, you get to come up with your own opinion whether you think Tonya deserved better. With that said, I recommend this wildly amusing biopic to every lover and hater of Tonya Harding.

(1-16-24) Remaking my pinned one. Will be keeping pinned one for reference. But the links don't work and I started reformatting.
Hi! I don't know why you're here.
This is where I'm putting my Sims Legacy Save information. I've got a game I play in rotation with aging on played households. This has been an evolving thing, and now I've gotten multiple three-generations families.
I started naming the children by generation letter, but not until halfway through second gen in a random household. I mark these now by changing the names, or by notating with (A), (B), (C) etc. as necessary.
The 'official' records are: Snapshots, where I recap a household at time of switching families and Eulogies, where I recap a Sim's lifetime after their deaths.
I sort through these with tags including the last names of First Played Sims of the bloodline. (Pancakes family, Overton Family, etc.)
Last/Family names are combinations of parents' family names. Same-but-different (like the mother and son pair who reproduced with the same person) get remixed (Scales and Beck becomes Scalebeck and Beckscales).
Families always went Teen Daughter, Child Son in the beginning. I tried to go by household, but it turns out that those constantly change in ways that don't record well. ^ ^;
Due to length and link issues, I will likely be making a second page for Table of Contents. The links on this page are Eulogies (tagged Eulogy)
In only some order, my Save started with...
The Pancakes Family - married pair Bob and Eliza
The Whitfield Family - Craig, Dana, and their children Katherin and Stetson
The Angel Family - Lance, Ellie, and their children Danika and Waylon
The Overton Family - Jennifer and Maddox
The Cullen Family - Anna and her son Valentino
The Pike Family - Gabrielle and Rory, and their children Shawn and Jordan
The York Family - Cleo, and her children Ahmad and Fatima
The Pace Family - Katrina, and her children Kristina and Jefferson
The Scales Family - Shieu, and her children Janice and Dawson
The Holloway Family - Susan, and her children Evageline and Barry
The Brice Family - Chad and Nadine, and their son Walton
The Spencer-Kim-Lewis-Davis Family - Grandparents Dennis and Lydia, Parents Alice and Eric, and child Olivia
The Helton Family - Teens Dillon and Fernanda, and their grandparents who died early
The Pfeiffer Family - Genevieve and her children Benjamin, and Heven
The Blackburn Family - Husband and Wife couple, Annabelle and Bill
The McFarland Family - An old man and his unofficially adopted son, Javier
The Landgrabb Family - married couple Nancy and Geoffrey and YA son Malcolm
The Banks Family - Ayden, Krysten, and their children Lillian and Alan
The Walters Family - Husband and Wife whose names were lost by the game
The Caruso Family - Single Mother whose name was eaten by the game and her son Judah
The Merrill Family - Annie and her child Belmont
Individuals who didn't start as family but ended up paired
Imani Falcon - a sim I made in CAS to pair with someone
Colleen Manning - a townie Imani fell for instead
Lisa Moore - A townie I put into the Overtons to help raise Maddox
Jessie Boston - A townie Alien who lived with Colleen and Imani
Kian Padgett - a townie alien who lived with Jessie, Colleen, and Imani
Tiffani Hobson - a townie who Kian impregnated
Tatum Nixon - a townie that married (b) India Pancakes
Elsa Harms - an Alien who had a baby with Freddie Knapp
Freddie Knapp - A business man who hated kids but liked making them.
NPCs (not playing to death; leaving in the game) - Jana Puckett - A-gen - Mother of several and a high ranking surgeon - Sera Cerda - A-gen - A journalist and socialite
-Fatima York and Janice Scales - B gen - Hate Children and ran away to run a bakery
-Bianca Pancakes - B-gen - A womanizing Police Chief
Special Mention goes to townie Ariella Petty for Gino Pettyburn
Special Mention to townie Ava Tinsley for Ashlynn Puckley
Special Mention also goes to the hiccup with MCCC settings, resulting in Elaina Vatore, as resulting from Lilith and [I changed the game stuff so I can't see the other parent] and Justice Straus, child of Eden Ho and Vladislaus.
~~
Since I'm only linking eulogies, I can't link to anyone not dead/decommissioned yet. Will update as I can.

I feel like they did this for me. I feel like they saw that I loved him and gave him a partner, so they just threw me this bone. /j
And I’m just going to be ridiculously self indulgent and make pretend that NoMaddox if anyone remembers that oc lol was the one wearing the tiger mascot costume. IT’S NOT UNTRUE UNTIL IT’S PROVEN TO BE NOT CANON.

Debris: speculation and what we know so far about...
Bryan
The character is from Texas, has no siblings, and his parents are both alive.
He served in MARSOC (Marine Special Forces) in Afghanistan, where he was in a military prison in some capacity (officer or detainee unclear, but an alternate reality he's called a war criminal, so he's likely detained).
FWIW, I'm a little surprised that in an alternative reality Bryan wasn't a part of Influx. He shares a similar kind of backstory with Anson Ash.
He carries a baseball on the plane like a momento stress ball (1x03).
He eats...a lot, literally thinks with his stomach, seemingly indiscriminately (#you could just pull up a chair to the buffet). Stale Peeps, weeks old sandwiches, rewarmed burritos, anything from the minibar, etc. Maybe he was a smoker in the time before and it killed his sense of taste. Or he just has an iron stomach from his time on active duty. In any case, food seems to be his unconditional OTP. I request a GIF supercut.
He seems to know a bunch of field operatives (Lester, Sharon, John the ME, Muntz, Beck from containment) from various Orbital teams, perhaps even worked cases with a few, along with everyone in Maddox's office. He's very cordial so presumably he likes them, but in stark contrast at least half seem to decidedly dislike him with baiting antagonism, some openly hostile. Sharon: "why are you smirking at me Bryan?" Muntz, the Laghari lab tech: "I've come across plenty like you...men who play by their own rules." Beck: "They only send in the A-team when they want the agents to survive...easy for you to say, I'm the one who had to tell his wife". No wonder he feels a bit ostracized. Perhaps his reputation (impulsive?) proceeds him or perhaps he's been labeled an "unlucky" partner that misfortune follows so he gets kept at a distance?
The exception to the above seems to be Gary Garcia, the former scientist that helps hide George. May be former partners if the audio during credit rolls is any indication, and knows about Bryan's health / injections. They appear close. Perhaps because they share a mentality: both presumably injured in their line of work at Orbital, and they know what it means to have to rely on yourself.
When we meet Finola and Bryan, it seems like they've been working together for a few weeks, stateside at least (Finola's quote 1x02: Been here 3 weeks, feels like 3 years) and that he's had at least two Orbital partners prior, one (Julian / Jules) that died on duty, and the other creepy Dutch guy still living, Niels. How many more partners has he been through? Is it protocol that they get reassigned/shuffled so often to follow the debris, or so as not to form attachments "This job is about being alone, it's supposed to be...we're a blip in other people's lives", or does his personality not play well with others, like from the pilot when he tells Finola "it's been a long time since I've worked with somebody who's looked at me like another human being."
Also in 1x01 when Bryan says, "So are we now saying the debris pulled [Kieran] from the ground and added meat to his bones" and Finola says no, he was cremated, Bryan looks almost disappointed like he was momentarily more hopeful than pragmatic. At first I thought this was just a lead up to introducing the fact that George Jones was alive, but maybe another plot point is that Bryan has lost someone in duty he wants back.
He carries a picture in his front pocket of a woman with some Persian/ Farsi(?) or Urdu(?) written on the back. It's hard to tell by the script, it could be neither. When confronted by that, his clone says "I can't let it go." Old flame that was lost? Or a partner of a fallen service member killed in action —I've lost brothers— that he couldn't save (is that part of Bryan's dark guilt / grief)? Civilian casualty of a Marine mission? In the pilot when he tells Isla "you have to tell her how much you need her, I know from experience...You will not be able to forgive yourself if you don't" is Bryan thinking of this woman?
EDIT: considering the next episode is called "Asalah," which could be a woman's name, maybe that's part of the text on the back of the photo. Pure speculation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He counts on himself to be level and composed when it comes to his emotions and apologizes when he isn't. He loses that composure in the pilot when Isla talks about family therapy and fighting with her mother after Kieran's death: "I knew someone like her once." Was Bryan referring to himself, has he been through post-service therapy? Perhaps he developed a rift with his family or left home at an early age like she did?
Bryan would be great at pub trivia night. He always seems to have an odd fact ready about NASA tech, native legends, an article about a historical building that he read, Fleetwood PA, etc. He doesn't seem the type to keep facts on standby to impress, so perhaps he's a secret bibliophile even though Finola hassles him for not reading case files.
"Fin: Maybe we should run some more tests before we continue/ Bryan: I will cut bait if you want to / Fin; let's just look out for each other" 1x02 Bryan seems more cautious than impulsive, he does a good job of listening to Finola's concerns. Is that from experience? Did he get overconfident, mishandle debris, and get permanently injured, hence the frequent blood work and injections?
"This man saved my life." Why does Bryan trust Maddox implicitly? And when Maddox says in 1x07 "Investigate quietly. I want to keep the lights off. I don't want to lose anymore lives, Bryan, okay?" is that a word of warning specially for him? Does he have a body count? (see afforementioned question of frequent work partners turnover and having an unlucky reputation)
Bryan in protective of Finola when the CIA taps her apartment. It's the straw that turns his allegiance from his agency to his partner.
I still can't place why Bryan carries a baseball — it seems like it could be a red herring, but I can't get over the visual of Maddox playing catch with Dario and reading into it as some sort of surrogate bond — or why he has a chain around his neck (1x05). It's not service tags and probably not a ring, it's some kind of pendant: a large loop encircling a dull, perhaps tarnished, gray metallic disc. A patron saint? A piece of shrapnel? A piece of debris? Unclear, but it definitely has texture or an etching.
Top Bryan Quotes
"That's the job. Impossible." 1x01 Pilot
"We are supposed to be blips in these people's lives, not memories." 1x04 In Universe
"It's been a long time since I've worked with somebody who's looked at me like another human being." 1x01
"Zippo lighters, Pyrex glassware, Crayola crayons, and of course Peeps. Insane for peeps, cracklike...we owe the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania a great deal of gratitude and I am not afraid to say it." 1x02 You Are Not Alone
"I've been thinking, [about] Finola.. if MI6 knew her father was still alive they would take her out of here. We need to get home before this becomes an issue...this is going to affect her." 1x03 Solar Winds, when he's not sure how her father will affect her empathetic-based decision-making
Craig: "You hated the creepy Dutch guy." / Bryan: "He was adorable."
"Well, one of my tips for survival, Muntz, is always let the other guy touch the debris first." 1x03 So is that what happened to Garcia?
To Finola "I realize I tend to forget that there's still magic to discover in the world. But not you." 1x03
"There are things that you understand about life that I don't, and I respect that. But there are things that I know that you will not find very palatable...I am going to focus on the people that we're saving and not the ones that we can't." 1x04
"If we don't act, we might not be able to stop the terraforming. There's no way we're going to be able to win all these, and I know that every cell in your body right now is screaming for you to do what you think is right. I need you to go against that. I need you to trust me." 1x04
"Finola's capable. I trust her instincts." 1x08 Spaceman
"I'm running on sugar and coffee for the rest of the day" 1x07 You Can Call Her Caroline, but really isn't that Bryan everyday?
"When I tell you that I understand, it's not empty...I lost brothers. It destroys families. There are people who can help you with what you're going through right now...There is a way to get back from this pain. I was where you were, and the darkness almost ended me. And somebody put out his hand... I want to be there for you." 1x07
"I'm trying to get back to someone. It's very important to me." 1x09 Do You Know Icarus?

I really want to know how exactly Maddox would think Bryan could convince Finola to not go into the compound to find her father. Like, the only way I could see Bryan not have her go in there is to knock her out or drug her food or something. And then he’s like “You can take comfort in telling Finola that her father died in the crossfire.” Like, there’s no way Finola would not think something weird was going on if she couldn’t go into the compound and then her dad turned up dead.

Basically, I have a Sims 4 legacy save where I've been playing a growing number of families and households. I was trying to keep track of them using what I named a snapshot, but my technique is lacking and I think it would be easier to chain individual posts by replying to myself and stretching the shit into the infinite, or at least linking to myself. What have you.
Wish me luck.
~
In case anyone is looking, the generations are lettered by first names (except half the first gen, whose surviving members I did rename in-game but couldn't rename in my head).
So first gen are either random names/letters or a weird modified version of their name that now starts with an A. (Cleo York became Aleo, Freddie became Arddie which became Arty, two of my more guilty ham fisted attempts.)
Maybe half of B has normal B names while the other half are forced adjustments (Banice is a good example).
C is mostly normal C names except Cirk.
All of Gen C were born to played Sims, I intend for things to stay that way as much as possible.
Last/family names are mixed from the parents, whose are mixed from their parents. Manning and Falcon became Falman, and when Falman and Blackburn got together, they became Falburn.
When two of the same names have babies (usually because sibling affairs with in-laws), I mix it up. Once, it was a lady who seduced a mother and son, so Beckman plus Scales became Scaleman and Beckscales. I tend to keep it at 1-5 syllables at most, generally 2, so it's not too messy, but I definitely start losing great grandparent names.
~~
So, my original cast included (but was not limited to, because I can't remember them all) sorted by household
The Pancakes, renamed Abob and Aliza to keep my records
The Angels, a married couple and their teen daughter and child son.
Jana Puckett as a teen and the old lady I had live with her until she died. (I think her name was Jasmine) I renamed her Artemis, but I can't make the name stick in my head. She even looks like an Artemis. I think she's game generated, but I might've made her in CAS, 'cos I remember wanting to check out independent teens
Freddie Knapp, YA, an alien businessman (renamed Arty). He has a story all of his own, which I will tell in its own post. Game generated.
Jessie Boston and Kian Padgett, Game generated and I'm not sure if they were NPCs I stuck in the same house to mess with aliens or what.
Imani Falcon, Colleen Manning, I'm pretty sure I made Imani manually in the CAS.
Jennifer Overton and her son Maddox, game generated, and her roommate Lisa that I think I moved in and lost the last name for.
The Cullen house, game-generated, Old lady Anna (I think) and her teen son (I think) Valentino. A and B that way.
The Pike House, game-generated, Mother Abrielle (Gabrielle) and Father Rory (Aory hahahahaha), and two children, Shawn and Jordan. I did rename Jordan Bordan, but not Shawn for whatever reason.
The York House, game-generated, Mother Aleo (Cleo) York, teen daughter Batima and child Amahd renamed Bahmad. I know.
The Pace House, game-generated, Mother Atrina (Katrina) Pace, teen daughter and child son (there's actually at least two more that I can think of, too, the game gave me a lot of these) Befferson (Jefferson) was the boy and Bristina (Kristina) was the girl
The Scales House, game generated, mother Shiew (I think?), teen daughter Banice (I wanna say Janice) and child son Dawson, renamed Bawson.
The Holloway house, another Mom-Teen daughter-Child son set. Asana was the rename and her children are Barry and Bavagaline (Avangeline with B gen, bwahaha)
The Brice house, game-generated, a married couple on the rocks and their teen son. Dad was evil, Renamed Adine and Achad, presumably Nadine and Chad, Son is Balton, probably was Walton.
The Whitfields, Craig and Dana, with teen Katherin and son Stetson, renamed Batherin and Betson.
The Kit-Lewis-Davis bunch, everyone knows these ones, they're the ones you boot out of the big house on the hill. Child daughter's name became Bolivia, I didn't want to skip straight to gen C at the time.
The Heltons, two elders and a young adult Dillon and teen Fernanda game-generated, pretty sure they come with the house, too. Unfortunately, the game doesn't consider the siblings related because they lacked common parents. Blegh.
The Pfeiffers, a Single Mother and Teen Daughter And Child Son, who were my first to Gen C and therefore have not been played in AGES.
The Blackburn household, a married? couple of musicians.
The McFarland house, an elder and a teen boy he adopted, Called him Gen A but he ended up with someone Gen B so honorary gen B with technicalities for qualifications.
The Landgrabbs
The Bankses. I think these two come with the houses.
The Walters, a married couple I think I put in the game.
The Caruso house, a single mother and her teen son Judah. The game forgot his mother. I renamed him Budah.
The Harms house, an alien woman named Elsa, who I renamed Alsa. I think she was the only one in her house to start with. In fact, I think she was an NPC I knocked up with Freddie.
The Merrill household, I think game made? Mom and son, maybe teen or maybe child
Ava Tinsley the gym mentor is also the mother of at least one kid in town, because I liked her face.
Tiffani (Affani) Hobson also joined the bunch from the NPC townies and moved in with Holloway after she got pregnant and had a baby.
Sera Cerda is an NPC that didn't have babies and has entered Socialite status in town for the sake of it.
Not the Goths, as I didn't want to mess with that narrative.
(10/30/22) I'm pretty sure I'm 99.5% done with this. That .5 will be corrected over time. And probably actually reduced.
