If it isn't the oh so mighty Yuuaku, resting after a well fought battle for Vrains, are we? Tell me, does Ai resent you for failing not only him, but those he cherished as well? Do you struggle with the weight of knowing that you failed at keeping your partner safe and whole? Of keeping his family safe? (1/3)

Is that why you’re attached to Tsuki? Is he a way to try redeeming your own undeniable failures? It’s fitting, you know. Broken children finding some pitiful excuse of normality in each other, using each other for their own selfish desires. AI must be writhing around in your head, knowing that you’re just trying to escape your mistakes by sheltering with a fragile child you’ll only push away once something brings out the frightened child that you claim to have left behind. I’m curious to know if you’ll end up in another project, one meant to extract you from AI. Won’t it be like going home with the pain and suffering you’ll go through again? I wonder if Tsuki would blindly follow you there, and willingly attempt to take your place on that cold metal table? Won’t that be such a fun risk to your little game? (3/3)

| ❖ | ❝ Shut up. ❞ The snarl was past his lips before Playmaker could stop himself, a familiar cold anger burning in his gaze. ❝ How dare you say such horrible accusations? ❞ There was no way any of that was plausible. He has fought so hard for his future, even when he was in the deepest pits of despair. And he wasn’t going to lose it any of that to senseless doubt.

❝ There are so many things wrong with what you’ve said, and listing them properly wouldn’t even begin to cover it. ❞

Yet there was a seed of apprehension nestled in Playmaker’s heart, one that he has yet to clear away. There were so many failures that scattered across his path, and he had been powerless to stop any of them. Playmaker had been powerless to stop any of them.

Despite coming to a conclusion about his feelings towards Revolver and his desire to seize a future with him, there was no denying that he never got his revenge on the man who subjected him to such torture – Kiyoshi Kogami, Revolver’s father. Failure Number One. Then there were the Ignis. Yuusaku had promised Ai directly that they would build a future where humans and AI could live together peacefully – a future where he and Ai could remain together. Yet not only is the Cyberse World still in a state of ruin, the other five Ignis had perish in the war against their rouge members. Not a scrap of their data remained in the network, and both Ai and them combined searched the servers for any traces. There was none. Failure Number Two.

And then there was Ai himself. Playmaker had sworn to save him, but couldn’t save his own partner from himself. Fighting against a part of him in such a reminiscent manner stung harshly. Revenge, as he has learned the hard way, was never going to truly solve any problems. However, by the time Playmaker learned exactly who Ai was seeking his final vengeance against, it was too late. The suicide mission was already embarked on, and there had been no turning back. Ai had almost been lost to certain death, but absorbing his data allowed for him to continue living, together. Yet sometimes Playmaker couldn’t help but wonder: is his fate any different? Trapped in another’s consciousness with such restricted freedom? Only able to see the world through eyes that are not his own? The teen had so many thoughts circulating around this that not even three months of solitude and contemplation had fixed, and only the gentle comforts of his partner could keep those feelings at bay.

Failure Number Three?

❝ And clearly you don’t know the full story. I am simply helping Moonphaser find the truth behind his trauma as well as locate his Ignis partner. ❞ Yes, there were too many similarities between himself and Tsukiya that Yuusaku didn’t care to admit. The sense of brokenness, of feeling lost and directionless when one is alone. He didn’t want anyone else to go through such an experience, not when he’s aware of what they’re going through. So what if he can relate to Tsukiya? So what if he’s gaining some semblance of attachment to him? As far as Playmaker is concerned, that person is another victim of a Lost Incident, and he’s sworn to fight for them ( even the ones who don’t want to be saved ).

❝ Don’t act like you know anything about any of us here! ❞ Voice cracking at the end, Playmaker grabbed at his adjacent wrist, nails digging into the thin fabric of the jumpsuit’s fabric and not leaving marks on his skin ( yet there won’t be any signs of this in the real world ). ❝ There won’t be any other projects, not while I’m alive. I won’t let anyone ever touch me like that ever again. ❞

Yet the mental images flashed through his mind already, his arms trembling in both fear and rage. Experimented on? Separated from Ai? Would humanity be that desperate to get their greedy hands on the last Ignis that resided within him? No, he won’t let them! He won’t let anyone destroy the future he and Ai fought so hard to grasp for themselves. Playmaker refuses to let Ai’s sacrifice be ripped away, be lost in vain!

But those visuals… those were too gruesome. It was paralyzing yet adrenaline was pumping through his veins in fear. To be kidnapped and tortured again for the sake of science and humanity’s greed… it was going to be too much. And if Tsukiya tried to shoulder the pain instead? No, he won’t allow that! He is innocent to all of this, and doesn’t deserve any of it!

Before the shaking could spin out of control, all movement freezes to a halt. Soothing whispers resonate in Playmaker’s ears, the other’s voice tinged with a lighthearted song’s foreboding tone. Stay calm, he says, no one can touch you, he says. He won’t let anyone lay a hand on him in such a cruel manner ever again.

Green eyes bleed into a glaring gold, and an exasperated sigh sounds from his throat. ❝ Is it really that fun to be such a horrible person? To wish that kind of harm on someone who has already suffered so much? ❞ An airy chuckle now, but his lips twist into a frown as he shoots a deadly glare into the void of the network.

❝ If you or anyone else even dares try to lay a hand on my partner, I won’t hesitate to defend ourself. You can’t tear us apart, no matter how badly you want me for some corporate or selfish gain. ❞

❝ So leave us alone. Now. ❞
