I broke free and created whatever my heart desired, instead of what I thought people wanted to see in an already saturated market. My focus became the story that each piece would carry and my hope was to spark that same feeling within the wearer. As my love grew for my art, I also had to dig deep and face the delicate nature of each theme I chose to work with. A beautiful yet sometimes painful process for fear of rejection. And isn't that what all forms of love are? A double edged sword, strong, empowering and ready for whatever life will face you with. But she is also sharp and needs to be handled with care. Snowy owl flying across a snowy sky has a moonstone dangling below to represent an arctic landscape. All sterling silver metal components were sawn out by hand using my jeweler's saw. The snowy background on the pendant was created by fusing silver dust to the metal. The moonstone is set in fine silver, which is soldered to sterling silver metal. I framed it with silver wire that is balled on the ends. Snowy owls have actually been spotted on the beaches of NJ during the winter but I haven't been lucky enough to spot one. I've been asked before, why do I focus so much on nature for my designs? Why not something else, something more trendy or flashy? This one makes me smile. I view jewelry as more than just adornment. That's a fun, expressive use for it and I do get a kick when my faithful patrons tell me they've received compliments when wearing my work - I love that. But long ago when I first created Andewyn Moon (it was Andewyn Designs back then), I began to receive messages from the women who loved and bought my work. They told me deep stories of overcoming significant challenges in their lives, of how the Natural World had supported them through these challenges. How my work had become a sacred talisman representative of that connection, their journey and their victory. That was powerful for me, to know that the work my hands created had such a place in so many lives. The perspective shift helped me to evolve this work into what you see today. This jewelry is made to help connect you to what I and so many others have found comfort, support and purpose in. This Natural World where we don't just exist, but have a sacred place and part to play, if we choose to. That connection can heal us. The talismans I create are meant to remind you of that and celebrate your journey on this most sacred of paths.
