Okay got mad about The Bad Comic so back to focusing on things I like: Booster Gold/The Flintstones Special #1. This is my favorite modern Booster comic. That is not a joke. The Flinstones tie-in of dubious canonicity is, imo, the best of the decade.

The plot involves Booster time-traveling to 20,000 BC to prevent a future disaster, running into Fred Flintstone & company as more chaos unfolds involving Booster’s high school year book, alien lizard prophets, and The Who. And listen, I know people have legitimate issues with Mark Russell, but I also know in my bones that man could write such a fucking good JLI run. Because this issue leaves me feeling like he gets it.

I think there’s a modern issue with the kicked puppy-ification of Booster Gold. I feel like everywhere I see him he’s getting written as a pathetic thing with his tail tucked between his legs, so downtrodden by circumstance and his own incompetence. (Sorry, sorry, back to focusing on the positive!) There is absolutely none of that here. Booster is cocky and rude and short-sighted and selfish; he is competent enough to see the kinder, better option and then refuse to take it. The book understands that Booster’s flaws are a feature, not a bug, and I think Russell nails the nuances of how a well-written Booster fucks up. In this, Booster gets into shit through his own blind over-confidence, and he gets himself out of it with his wits and the power of friendship, and it’s fucking beautiful.

What’s also beautiful is the art. I think Leonardi’s probably one of my favorite comic artists of all time, and so the fact they tapped him for a Flintstones tie-in is hilarious to me, but I’m also not complaining one bit. Do I think it’s the best work of his career? No. Did I take it with me when I got some books signed by him at a con last year? Hell yeah. One thing I noticed this round more than on previous readings is that Booster feels BIG, usually ducked down into cramped spaces the other characters seem to fit in more comfortably—which I love as someone who is constantly reminding everyone that Booster’s 6’5.

It’s 28 pages, so, y’know, read it and decide if I’m insane for having this much effusive praise for a weird one-off Hanna-Barbera crossover.

Also, I’m pretty sure Booster was hitting on Fred Flintstone in this, so that’s fun.

One Year, One World

Terraria Calamity Edition

Greetings to whoever this post reaches, My name is Raiah and I want to document my experience of pushing Terraria (Specifically Terraria Calamity) to it's absolute limits by staying on one world for an entire year, locking progression behind months to force productivity.

I am taking this journey along with Terraria YouTuber Thorarbin, who live streamed and documented his experience doing this challenge in vanilla Terraria over last year (at the time of this post, he will be live streaming Week Two later on in the day) and others in his discord server.

Now, onto my experience.

Currently I am on week two of the challenge, but much wasn't missed for week one. It was just mainly starting the Terraria grind up, y'know the regular early game experience

Dude, I grinded wayyyy too hard for this week(also did a little bit of sequence breaking, my bad I forgot😭🙏🏾)

Mainly I'm ending this week off with the defeat of King Slime, Eye of Cthulhu, and Desert Scourge.

So now I just have Crabulon for the rest of the month.

Definitely building all week next week, thinking about making a bunch of fishing areas since I'm going Mage/Summoner right now
