You know, I have decided to go through a route with Impa that does humanize her, and I know why I did that and I like that I did that, but honestly there's absolutely room to interpret her as a Majora-grade villain, and that would both make sense, be terrifying, and be very interesting to unpack too

#thoughts #impa #oot #(I said oot but it would encompass every single one of her reincarnations) #I latched on the unquestioned servant angle because that is both how we are supposed to see her and also that it's normal and evident #which I wanted to challenge a bit #but #there's also the possibility that she lets herself exist as a tool #but has much more power over the course of things that we can even imagine #ready to sacrifice anyone and anything to make sure the Legend Keeps Occuring #she could be interpreted as the will of gods in a human shape #always there and always putting the pieces exactly where they belong #and that is also a super cool intepretation of her #I like Impa dead inside but Impa as the secret pin holding the cosmic horror show together is also incredibly compelling to me #(which she always is at least a little but I feel like there's levels of cognition and agency in that) #(and depending on how much agency she have she can either be pretty tragic or a full blown eldtritch horror) #(and both are fun honestly)

I often enjoy taking inspiration from animals and putting them onto WoF dragons-- so here's a collection of ideas n such from a few of AU's I have (caution for eyestrain under cut) for @otiksimr 's challenge (you actually were one of two major inspirations for me to begin working on my Shattered AU in earnest, so thank you for sharing your super cool art on tumblr!)

Barn owl inspired leafwing and leopard/black panther rainwing, also semi-inspired by Rung and Ravage TF:IDW. Doesn't totally fit the challenge but figured I'd include them

the Queen's Blood sub-story veering off into cosmic horror is so funny to me bc while all the other players are reacting to the cosmic horror bits as you would expect characters in a cosmic horror story to react, Cloud's just sitting there looking unfazed but slightly concerned for the other players, bc he deals with bizarre visions and headaches on the regular, and so the Secret Forbidden Knowledge Horror of Queen's Blood isn't actually out of the norm for him, and obviously still less of a threat than Sephiroth

#ff7Rebirth spoilers #for uh...the weird recurring side-minigame #Cloud is the Luigi of FF7 and no I will not elaborate on that #anyhow the silly in-game TCG continues to be my favorite side-bit of Rebirth #like the spooky stuff doesn't even get me bc I'm sitting there like :D< bc cosmic horror is my favorite horror #like no I don't care if some eldritch abomination will hunt Cloud for sport or whatever is going on #the minigame is fun as hell to play and I will keep making beelines for new QB players to challenge in every new area #oracle of lore

the elden ring dlc story trailer just dropped so just letting you guys know that i’m gonna find a way to integrate elden ring lore into dunmeshi somehow because i need both stories like i need air to breathe

#aspects of both could definitely work in the same universe #my only hesitation in lumping both together is that i don’t really think they’re inherently compatible just because Fantasy Genre #the core themes of elden ring are so at odds with dungeon meshi lol #the shrouded path of seeking power mired in bloody sacrifice all in the name of ascending to godhood for your own ambition #(but not really bcs there’s always an outside cosmic influence so what of free will) #versus the humble everyday work of sustaining the self in relation to community as a way of living with purpose #(free will is the ultimate challenge to being trapped by your own desire) #themes are at odds but the narrative mechanics have core similarities #defeat the dungeon lord/legacy dungeon boss and obtain their power #also the premise of the shattering being comparable to the upheaval of mana in dunmeshi universe #and how it challenges the existing power structures #i have so many thoughts #i’m definitely gonna get the platinum for the ER dlc #so it’ll be a grind and you guys are gonna witness me in my gamerfail era #if it’s anything like the bloodborne dlc i’m ready to get my ass whooped #but i’m gonna love every second of it #wasabi rambles
