haiii as a frequent con-goer my observations are: ppl tend to get posters or pins/keychains more than stickers, since sticker boards r more rare than like ita bags or drcorating ur room.
bnha hasnt rly been present in cons recently, so dont feel like you Have To BUT. if you do genuinely want to sell that stuff, it wld probs fill a niche that the people who DO want to see it will be excited for since theres probs not alot of other booths with it
depending on how far away the con is, dunmeshi will probs be rly popular since its the biggest new thing. sometimes theres a gap of if smthn big comes out too close to a con no one has time to make merch yet, but if you think you have time and want to itll probs be rly popular.
all of this is as u said based on my personal experiences and ive only been to the cons in my state, and NOT as an artist so idk if boothers have other advice or inputs but! :) i hope it helps
YESS THIS IS SO HELPFUL TY TYY🫶 ive been out of the loop for some time now, so this is great @ filling in the gaps. i appreciate you taking the time to lmk your thoughts :”)
like you make such a good point ab the sticker boardsHAHAHA sweeet. i’ll probably be better off focusing on the big3 anyways (pins, posters and charms) and add variety later on once i feel more established
and wooo!! ok thats what i was thinking wrt to dunmesh :3 it might be fun to draw a thing or two once i finish the season then hehe THANK YOUU !! 🤭 ill keep all of this in mind

Art Fight is funny to me because upon seeing anyone talk about it, my first thought is of Super Art Fight, which is by far the more obscure thing of the two of them, yet I still require brief mental recalibration to remember there's another Art Fight that's much more well known online

i used to love watching vids from past cons and browsing the photos, both for nostalgias sake and also trying to find myself in these, but the past few years the cons are so.. meh... i also never find myself and my peers in any photos/vids anymore even tho ppl take a morbillion there they just dont share all, and like its not the same as it used to be... since the venue changed and it became more stuffy i guess it lost its magic

Nothing like literally all of the NJ Transit trains being out of service the Saturday night of New York Comic Con because of a down powerline and then rushing over to the PATH trains so I can transfer at Journal square in order to make it to Newark and then go back to Seacaucus to pick up my car before finally heading home. 🫠

in hindsight 2021 spnblr drama is unbeatable. there was a full on war between sam girls and everyone else. people destroyed in the gay dean trenches just for being there. people cancelled over paying stupid amounts of money to go cons. people cancelled for being mean to congoers. baby jack is ableist. sam is a woman. actually dean is the woman because he's always in that kitchen. is cockles unethical even if misha collins endorses it. transmasc dean is setting a bad example to trans men because they'll think violence is the answer. destiel as jack's dads is heteronormative.

Lightbox Expo 2023 is over!! Thank you to everyone who stopped by the table. I can't believe I sold out of both my sketchbooks AND my digimon fanbook... (multiple prints too?!)! I'm incredibly grateful... I will have a 2nd print run of both sketchbooks and online orders for the digimon book up in the next couple weeks so please keep an eye out for that!
More gushing abt the weekend under the cut
I sell at an average of idk... 3-4 events a year? So I would consider myself a frequent congoer though not necessarily full time lol. I'm a little jaded like it's not that I don't enjoy going to cons but theres definitely a bunch that feel like just-another-con-weekend to me lol, sometimes it's more work than play I guess. But this con felt really different! For the first time in a while I left a convention feeling really thrilled and giddy that I had been there. The kind of feeling I used to get when I would table at anime cons in highschool! And I think a lot of that is the people I met and talked to and the overall vibes at the event. Oh also I literally just had surgery and going to this con is like the only thing ive done this week besides lay in bed and play Story of Seasons on the nintendo switch and I thought I would be in pain and miserable but actually I HAD SO MUCH FUN...!!!! even when i skipped after-hours socializing every night to go home early and sleep 12 hours lol. SO ANYWAYS. YEAH. IT'S CORNY. BUT I wanna say thank you again to everyone who stopped by the table. Especially all the coworkers and long time mutuals who I met in person for the first time this weekend!! And the long time followers who told me they have been following me since homestuck or naruto or whenever. And college classmates who I haven't seen since graduation, crazy talented underclassmen who I'd never met but stopped by to say hi... So many people who absolutely made my day. SPECIAL thank you to my table partner Emi who is the best and such a good sport and accommodating to the point that I feel ridiculous when she thanks me for anything. And um also thank you to the artists who were cool and nice when I went up to their tables and blurted out 24917596 compliments in rapid succession. or only got one really awkward compliment out to LMAO... I felt so inspired and awe struck by everyone's work! God it was just so cool to be there. I LOVE ART....
Ok yeah thats it. its been a while since ive written a post-con blog post so earnestly lol.. here's my obscene haul photo I was buying stuff at this con like I was dying and couldn't take it with me LMAO.
Tumblr media
I'm not gonna go tag everyone because I don't think everyones on tumblr but if you dont mind doing a little google search legwork: big x-men prints from chase conley, prints from jacki li/bguavas, azusa tojo, xanthe bouma, nicodaboy, susan yung, hormstuck, nessa tweneboah, linda liu, ash tahilan, zines also from jason dwyer, ash tahilan, aprilyn cunanan, veggiecakeface, deb lee, dune5and, uhh yoichi nishikawa art book and parakid calendar, stickers again from ash, marie lum, hormstuck, chiou, and emi hartana/crowlets OKAY I THINK I COVERED EVERYTHING THANKS FOR READING

All is the will of Steins Gate Here I am with another favourite of mine. Been meaning to make a mosaic for this story for awhile but it’s thanks to some congoers at Toronto ComiCon being excited by my Kurisu sticker that this came to be now! I highly recommend Steins;Gate, in both VN and anime format, it has some moments that hit hard over and over on replay. When I have more time on my hands I’m finally going to play the sequel... Until next time El Psy Kongroo

The Reykjavik Actual
warnings: beetles, implied horror, arguable self-harm
You’re attending a con and CCG tournament. The fun never ends! That is because you are stuck in a time loop.
Beetles scuttle behind the world’s walls.
One player, the “GM,” describes each (repeated) day at the con, setting a secret group point spending target for each. They also play the world.
Everyone else creates a congoer.
Congoer Creation
Divide 7 points between four Traits—
Salvation, the art of doing good;
Ruin, magic of chaos and delirium;
Rule, to claim territory; and
Memory.
Your last Trait, Competence, is 3.
Playing a Congoer
You may spend a Trait point to speak authoritatively on its nature and uses, or, half a point to wield it.
Up to twice a “day,” willfully let something bad happen, and gain +1 point in a chosen trait—+2, if this wounds or changes you cross-loop.
Otherwise, even trauma “heals” when the loop resets.
Days
When a day is an obvious success or failure, it ends. The GM summarizes the rest.
Or, when all PCs have used or waived both point-gain opportunities, the day ends. The GM narrates how it ends, based on whether PC spending matched the target.
Then, begin the day; or, end the game.
(created in response to https://prokopetz.tumblr.com/post/732760957036724224/tumblr-200-word-rpgs-2023 ; I'm reposting it here to make my archive a little cleaner. If you feel the need to reblog with any sort of comment not relating to the 200-word RPG thing in general, please do it here and not there!)

Playbill Presents: Death Note: The Musical Panel at NYCC2023
As described on the NYCC site:
"Following acclaimed productions in Japan and Korea and after two star-studded sold-out concert engagements in London, DEATH NOTE: The Musical is coming to New York Comic Con. Playbill will present a panel about the show featuring stars from the recent London concert (cast to be announced) and will offer a sneak peek into the developing production. "Based on the best-selling Japanese manga series (60 million copies worldwide) of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata / Shueisha, this groundbreaking musical (Winner Best Musical, Korea Musical Awards) has a score by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, 4 years on Broadway, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Bonnie & Clyde) with lyrics by Jack Murphy, book by Ivan Menchell, and orchestrations and arrangements by Jason Howland."
And on Playbill.com:
"October 14's programming kicks off with a Death Note: The Musical panel at 10:30 AM. Set to appear are cast members Adam Pascal, Joaquin Pedro Valdes, and Dean John-Wilson; producers Yuzo Kajiyama and Jamie Chapman Dixon; and book writer Ivan Menchell, with producer Haley Swindal hosting."
For context, this was the earliest panel slot on the third day of a four-day con. Not quite prime territory (especially with the listening party as the last slot of the same day) but they still secured a really good turnout with a lot of cosplayers. Need I remind everyone, the manga is twenty years old, and the anime isn't much younger. So it's really a sign of DN's staying power and the love that people have for this show that congoers showed up in droves to check out this preview.
Unfortunately nothing of consequence was announced at this panel or at the listening party. I was hoping we'd get confirmation of the West End run or even a Broadway concert performance, but no such luck. I was also looking forward to the audience Q&A but tbh all the information we received was so fascinating that I'm glad Haley let the panelists talk instead of trying to keep time for that.

[ID: Adam Pascal, Joaquin Pedro Valdes, Dean John Wilson, Jamie Chapman Dizon, Ivan Menchell, a translator, and Yuzo Kajiyama sitting on stage at NYCC while Haley Swindal stands at a podium.]
After thanking sponsors and bringing everyone on stage, Haley opened by asking each guest a question, starting with Yuzo, the producer of the original Japanese production.
[everything here not in quotation marks is paraphrased]
Haley: Yuzo, what about Death Note inspired you to turn it into a musical, and what were the steps you took to get there?
Yuzo's translator: When he started at Horipro in 2006, at that time all the musicals were imported. He felt the need to produce original musical shows from within Japan. And that was when he had his eyes on Death Note. Horipro already had a relationship with Shueisha, the rightsholders, from the DN movie.
He had two things he felt were important in making this:
The content had to be something that was internationally popular.
Light Yagami’s actor would always get recognized when he went abroad.
It needed to have some kind of extraordinary element to fit with the spontaneous singing.
The concept of the comic, a person who has their name written and dies and the presence of the shinigami, he felt was a perfect fit for the musical.
He also knew that since Shonen Jump, the magazine Death Note originally appeared in, is sold for 2 dollars, the show therefore needs to be a low price.
So that’s when he went to Shueisha. He remembers the first words that they said were “Death Note is gonna be a musical show?" At that time there was only one manga-adaptation musical: The Prince of Tennis. He convinced the people at Shueisha that this would be a first-class show.
Yuzo knew the most important part of the production was the music. At the time Horipro was involved with the Japanese production of Jeykll & Hyde, which also had themes of justice. Yuzo approached Frank Wildhorn about DNtM, but Wildhorn turned it down because "it had to have a love story element, which he felt was the most important aspect" of a musical. Yuzo was impressed by this.
Wildhorn went back to the US and spoke to his son who was a big fan of Death Note, and his son told him he needed to take the job. [Everyone cheered.]

cosplayed subz at vidcon baltimore yesterday! so cool! wow!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yipeeeeee rambling and more images below readmore
so first! i went in a group!
Tumblr media
subz is me obviously, cellbit is my qpp elric (@rainy-day-wizard), and grian is my younger sister (@lepa-frog). least cohesive group of cosplayers ever. tho there ARE connections! i cosplayed a guy with moon symbolism and lepa cosplayed a guy with sun symbolism! so we are like moon and sun! cool! and me and elric both hit our guys with the catboyification beams.
wearing all those headbands was hell btw. the horns were separate sets so there were two diff elastoc strings digging into my skull. AND the cat ear headband. anyway i saw cosplayers there who used headbands to have gamertags floating above their heads and i wanna do that next time. the suffering isnt enough i need four headbands. more realisticly i will probably attach it to the cat ear one but upgrading to four would be funnier.
also those horns give me enough gender euphoria to rival wearing a binder
stuff i made for this: painted the pattern on the glove and the big horns, sewed the shoulder scale things onto the coat(they were already in the triangles when i got them, i just attached them to the coat), made the button and chain thing on the coat, made and eclipse federation flag which i attached to the back of the coat, made lepas wing headband, and made the whole shirt thing. whatever its called. i sewed all that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
better pictures!
was up till ~3am the night before vidcon dyeing the streak in my hair, and then up till 1am the next night watching subz's first stream back from his vacation. doing soo well on sleep rn. gonna be up late tonight doing homework probably
only got one day tickets cause i got other shit to do, couldnt spend a whole weekend on this.
was super fun tho! ran into sooooo many cosplayers. one person recognized me as "that guy from lifesteal" which is more than i was expecting! 3 people asked if i was the enderdragon and one asked if i was docm77. tbh i get it, they both got the big horns, the funky shit going on with one arm and side of the face, and both got the tits out look. i could not accurately recreate the tits out look because i would have been charged with public indecency.
anyway i think like half the population of cosplayers were ranboos and technos. had to rehabilitate an especially large group at one point who were not being super considerate of other congoers 😔 was still fun to see all the people tho! also ran into some cranboos who i recognized from tumblr which was wild, those two and their friends were really cool!!
also one of the ranbs mentioned divorce papers and now im so sad i didnt think to make eclipse federation divorce papers :( would have been the best prop ever
con itself was a little mid, wasnt a lot to do, but the experience was super fun, so im glad i went
