Day 13. Favourite Cast Member

Basically. I was looking for a pic of Angel, Bradley, Colin and Katie because I couldn’t choose one and found one in this interview.

The interview was to celebrate ten years of Merlin and gives a lot of insight. I definitely recommend reading it!

Just in case you don’t get around to doing it, here are some of my favourite parts!

Colin Morgan: It was the best cast of actors I could have ever hoped to work with, with a supportive crew working so hard and with such skill and spirit. And of course all the amazing support we received and continue to receive from fans of the show old and new made it among the most enjoyable [years] of my career to date.

Richard Wilson: I mean, Colin Morgan of course was a brilliant piece of casting. They were so lucky because Colin was a really hard worker. A wonderful actor, and did his job brilliantly. He had a huge schedule, he had a lot to do. He was in more or less every scene.

Bradley James: I almost have an idea of my first scene being me walking down a corridor or something, really uneventful. But the first scene I properly remember doing is when Merlin walks in and he goes 'Oh I've done this' and I go 'You've done what?' And basically just rip into him for a solid minute (laughs). If it wasn't the first scene it was one of our first scenes. And obviously a good way to build a relationship with someone you're gonna work with for five years is to do a scene where you're just hollering at them for take after take.

Katie McGrath: If you had a shadow of a doubt about what you were doing - and there were days where you did, because you're human - it made your job much harder. You had to buy into it completely or it didn't make sense. You had to just drink the Kool-aid and go with it. Bradley and Colin were both amazing at it, I have to say, of completely believing and buying into everything that they did. Bradley was Prince Arthur, and then King Arthur. By the end of it I wasn't sure where one ended and one began. And Colin obviously is possibly one of the best actors of our generation, and he made everything look easy.

What are your opinions on the moral alignment of the Merlin characters?

Oh my god I didn't check my inbox and I don't know how long your question was just sitting there. I'm so sorry, I hope I'm not terribly late.

This question is so hard to answer, and I hope I understand it correctly, seeing as English isn't my first language.

I answer for the four main characters, so Gwen, Arthur, Merlin and Morgana, because that's probably all my brain can produce and I think I know most about those characters.

Please keep in mind that I've just began rewatching the show and it has been about 2 years since I last watched the whole series (I know, I know, it's awful), so I might not remember everything correctly. There's a lot of grey area with morality, so this was really hard.

Gwen - I think Gwen is an angel and I quite agree with her moral compass. I remember that Merlin asked her in one episode (I think it was in season one) if she would kill Uther if she had the power to (I think it was the same episode where her dad was killed by Uther's order) and she told him no, because that would make her just as bad, and I really love that bit of her because that is basically what I live my life by. It also just really shows how just she is.

Arthur - I love Arthur and his character, but I don't always agree with how he handles things. I do think that deep down he knows it's wrong, but that could also be just fangirl me talking. I love the way you get to see Arthur struggle in his morality. In my opinion Bradley James portrayed that wonderfully. Most of the times I didn't really need the big explanation with it, just the way Bradley James portrayed the scene would be enough to make me see Arthur is struggling with something.

Merlin - I think Merlin's moral compass is a bit shakey sometimes, but I do love that it changes the older he gets. I don't always like his kill count, because in some occasions he could've just knocked out the people instead of killing them. I do love the way Merlin is portrayed in always having a solid proof reason why he kills, or hurts other people. I think Colin Morgan did a really good job on showing the audience that Merlin has a reason behind everything he does.

Morgana - I absolutely loved Morgana in the first series. She stood up for what she believed in and I think that's really powerful. But, and you might have seen this coming, murdering innocent people isn't really up my lane. I actually did understand when she wanted to kill Uther (because honestly, who didn't), but I think wanting to watch as the crows feast on Arthur's (who, if I remember didn't do anything wrong) eyes a bit overdone. Yes, she has loads of trauma, and yes, the way people of magic were treated before was awful, but I still stand by my opinion that if you do the exact same horrible thing that you had someone do to you to that someone and others, you are just as bad.

I hope I understood your question correctly. I did my best to answer it.

MERLIN

I havent had such admiration for a tv series or any stories for years since the first few seasons of how to get away with murder. It felt really nice relieving the experience of being addicted to something so good. Now, ive been really trying to slow down a bit since i am near the end, and i have issues with separation anxiety, it may be long years of trial and error to find yet another heartwarming film.

Let me start of with a little glimpse of how the story will go:

It all started when a young warlock was handed by his mother to an old friend, in the name of GAIUS, in a kingdom, CAMELOT, ruled by the tough King Uther. He has a son, Prince Arthur, whom Merlin had to associate his life with. The son has yet to become the greatest king of Camelot, and in order to achieve that, Merlin is destined to guide him.

Favorite Characters:

Merlin played by Colin Morgan

As innocent as he look, this boy knows more than what everyone thinks of him. He is but the success of Camelot behind the scenes.

Prince Arthur played by Bradley James

A bully with a heart of gold. He only means well for Camelot and isnt afraid of judgment. He fights for his dignity and pride even if it means disobeying his father, king uther.

Morgana

The realest and kindhearted girl who turned into a dangerous sorceress because of hate.

Insights:

✔️It was really devastating how they forced prince Arthur’s love for Guinevere. I thought they both deserve more. They may develop potential overtime but not in a snap. I was so angry at the development that i stopped watching it for a day. But ofc, im still trying to get use to it, turning a blind eye everytime they’re both on screen.

✔️another thing i disliked is how the story will be on its peak then suddenly go deep, adding fillers just to make the story longer.

✔️I have to say this but i am so proud Morgana is on the other side. She fits the role of being a bad sorceress.

The very thing that made me love the series is how much i could relate to merlin. Doing heroic stuffs behind the scenes. As a Medical Technologist who works inside the laboratory, our job isnt always seen by the public, we tend to work silently, but our role is vital.

As an individual, Merlin is someone who just accepts everything even if the credit was taken by others. He shrugged it off but he know he’s so much more than the praises of people. He’s willing to wait for the right time he could finally let go and do his thing freely.

Merlin is me... without magic.
