Euphemia, the “Nippon” zone, and why it was a bad idea.

WARNING: Spoilers for the first season of Code Geass below the picture.

So, as it says in the title, I want to discuss Euphemia’s plan for the “Nippon” zone in the middle of the Tokyo settlement, and why it was a bad idea to begin with, even if Lelouch wouldn’t have geassed her into genocide.

So, her plan is to create a special zone of sorts, in which the British and the Japanese people would live together in harmony. This plan was interrupted by Lelouch, who, during the announcement of the special zone, lost control of his geass and ordered her to kill all Japanese people. But would Euphemia’s plan even work if it was set into reality? It could’ve, but that plan is highly flawed. Let’s talk about the side effects and goals this plan has.

First off, the obvious good thing about the plan is that the Japanese or “elevens” get to have their own safe space. It isn’t really a safe space though, since British people are still allowed inside, and as we have seen through the series (and especially through characters like Nina) the racism that the British had against the Japanese was deeply rooted. Is it really a good idea to make them live together, especially since it was supposed to be a safe space for the Japanese, who would be recognized as Japanese instead of Elevens.

Secondly, Putting a bunch of “Elevens” in one spot makes them an obvious target. If anyone wanted to kill “Elevens”, this plan would’ve made it so much easier, since the majority of them are all in one place now. In the end, that’s also not far from what happens: Lelouch accidentally geasses Euphemia into genocide, and since the Japanese people are all in one place, it made it so much easier to let them all be killed.

The last point, and in my opinion the most relevant point, is that this is basically just another way to keep the dangerous “Elevens” in check. Of course, they get a part of their land back, but only under Britannia’s terms, their own terms being that the Japanese all have to stay in their cute little bubble, and if they don’t, they’re the tasteless, terroristic Elevens again, and are met by lawful segregation. So they HAVE to stay in “Nippon”, because they aren‘t equal members of society if they don’t. This won’t create “peace” either. Britannia is just throwing bread crumbs at the “Elevens”, so they don’t scream of hunger. The empire gives them a little bit of attention to make the Japanese think that the government cares about them so that the people stop revolting for at least a little bit, since they think that the situation is improving, which it isn’t. It’ll all stay the same - Britannia will continue colonizing the rest of the world, Charles is still in power, and the Japanese are still Elevens in the World’s and in the emperors eyes.

Drew some Suzaku x Cécile ecchi fanfic illustration ❤️😘

My OTP at the moment. It makes me sad that there aren't much people who ship it (I am the only active shipper, lol). Thought, there are canon hints on this ship:

Cécile loves Suzaku

It is said in newstype magazin that Suzaku likes older woman (in romance)

He also stated in this interview, that besides of Euphie he admires Cécile

The creators commented in one episode that there is history between them

Cécile dresses suggestive for Suzaku obviously (who isn't a virgin anymore)

So the history we didn't get to watch can mean different things... Suzaku is probably aware of her feelings but can't return the love (bc of former love died) and maybe they have something like an affair together - at least Cécile hopes one day to marry Suzaku (last (?) picture drama episode) what means, that she didn't gave up on him, what makes it more plausible that their conversation was at least about their feelings, that wasn't shown to us.

really love the unsubtle symbolism of nunally being immune to lelouchs geass but actually seeing him for what he is and only actually gaining her sight back when she takes the last step from helpless victim to having blood on her hands during the final battle as a way to try and understand lelouch in direct contrast to how geass manifests differently for everyone based on their wishes and lelouchs wish was to be heard and change the world and really love the subtle symbolism that when lelouch uses his geass on her he actually kneels to her because even if he weilds the power of the kings he knows nunally will be a better ruler than he could ever have been and specifically the way he takes the trigger for the sword of damocles is in a goddamn knighting, literally knighting zero as nunallys because zero was always meant for nunallys kinder world

My problem with Knight of Seven! Suzaku:

In one sentence: Best outfit. Worst morals.

Everytime I look at Knight of Seven!Suzaku I get overtaken by rage. Complete. Frothing at the mouth rage.

Because. On one hand, the Knight of Rounds uniform is objectively, the most flattering outfit in the Code Geass universe. Everyone and their mom would look good in a Knight of Rounds uniform. It’s a fact of the universe. That outfit is perfection. And it looks the best when it’s worn by Suzaku. He could not have been hotter. None of his subsequent outfits (mostly slutty skintight flight suits that shows off his shoulders for no fucking reason) can match Suzaku in that uniform in terms of pure sex appeal.

Look at it. Look at how good he looks.

(Especially when he wears that massive cape? Wow he is fulfilling all of my visual requirements for a man and then some, and I usually don’t go for men.)

On the other hand though, Knight of Seven!Suzaku has the worst morals of all Suzakus. Absolute lowpoint. Complete dud. The most massive hypocrite I have ever witnessed in my life. “I am still a good person” bitch you tried to forcefully inject a prisoner of war with an illegal drug during an inpromtu and unauthorized interrogation. Just fucking casually conquering other nation-states on behalf of a racist colonizing imperial power. Wow. What a right thing to do.

Thus, my rage becomes clear. My heart categorically refuses to find any fictional character (or any real life person) who perpetuates colonialism endearing/likeable/understandable/deserves rights. But my brain is going “hot person is hot! Appreciate hot person!“ like an alarm bell without a snooze button. It’s terrible. I feel like I’m being pulled in two. I hate feeling this way. It means I react incomprehensibly whenever I see Knight of Seven. My hatred for him, which would’ve been at “Tohdoh finds out Suzaku is the pilot of the Lancelot (i.e. I respect your life choices even if I don’t agree with them at all), instead it gets turned up a hundred fold and I turn into Jeremiah screaming at Zero at the end of R1 whenever I see him.

Me @ my brain: can you please stop finding him aesthetically attractive. You know we don’t go for this specific type of war criminals.

Honestly the transition between Lelouch slowly pulling the trigger and the white doves suddenly taking flight is amazing, much more impactful than seeing Clovis get shot outright, what a great use of visual language.

Very late update everyone (lol) ! We're already halfway but I'm not apologize for this one since lately I keep getting ungrateful DM PM basically ordering me to send raw scanlation to them just because my english really suck~ ugh that's why I hate effortless beggar they just make my mood sour, I'm sure those people are 20 ish centuries, oh yeah I'm pretty old (lol)

Like always I talk differently from this so just skip it (lol) : For Genshin side, like always I joined another TCG tournament which start in 2 days. Last tournament, using non meta deck I only got 12 win so this time I gonna use meta deck to racked some wins (very lol) For HSR side, I try pull for Jingliu and in the end I can't even touch her blindfold (lol) so I gonna wait for Blade rerun later, I have his LC already so why not huh (XD). Even after looking at spoiler banner, I only interest in Black Swan but if her banner near Blade, I gonna skip her (lol) For Prosekai side, VBS ongoing event summary will be post today or tommorow depends on mood (lol) For Code Geass Lost Stories side eng version, wow I really suprise their pace really fast ! They already made it to chapter 6 in no time, even my team with most 4* pretty struggle to catch up !

Icha, Pariston may be gay, but Lelouch is GAY. Like, i cant explain how gay he is . You porbably know anyway. Pariston just doesnt hold a candle. If it were another guy as his opponent...

oh yeaah, i do not doubt one single second. Lelouch is a Clamp guy after all. Clamp has never made a straight guy in their entire life (okay perhaps excepting the guy from Chobbits but this is the only exception i'm willing to make AND it's a manga i last read 10 years ago anyway, so there's still an error margin possible here).

And i'm aware a bit of Code Geass and i know some outlines that makes me aware of this.

As it is: i agree with you. I don't think Pariston is fit for winning the competition.

However it is all about the meta joking of it all. Pariston getting elected for something No One, Absolutely NO ONE, not even the people who are willing to cheer for him, actually wants him to win.

Genuinely the consensus i've seen from hxh fans on this poll is "i'm voting for him because it's funny but let's be clear he is not supposed to win". If he wins, it's the election arc all over again, where he clearly didn't deserve to win and only mere luck brought him this far.

Trust me, this is where i'm coming from. I know Lelouch is supposed to win. Pariston doesn't hold a candle to whatever the hell is going on with a Regular Clamp Gay, let alone Lelouch.

It's really all about the metatextual hxh joke there.

Clamp Art Style Analysis: Part 4: Examining Concept art: xxxholic, Code Geass, Kabuki Bu

Now time for xxxholic concept art. The early concept art closely resembles ukiyoe painting; this is seen in the design of the characters. If you look at the concept art it was done with a pencil and then colored with an ink pen much like Tsubasa Holic had concept art with characters inked. 

While looking at how Yuko was inked, that was something I found interesting about it. There were pencil lines in Yuko's hair, her hair was drawn by a pencil and then inked with a pen.

Even when Yuko's hair is inked it does have a shape. The end of her long hair does have a shape; they draw the basic shape of her with a pencil. There are ink lines in her bangs and other hair in front that flow down naturally. This is done by pencil and then filled in by pen.  When it came to yukos hair they inked the outline with a pen then they filled it with an ink Clamp that inked the strands of her hair even the hair flowing down her shoulder was inked.

Watanuki's concept art is drawn by pencil first then his hair and clothes were inked like yukos.

Watanuki had hair strands sticking out of his hair. His hair is inked in the series but his pencil sketch had few lines. The Watanuki next to Domaki is close to the Watanuki we know in the series.

Watanuki’s poses are exaggerated in the manga but his concept art had his poses look different the Watanuki here is different from the Watanuki we know his poses looked realistic it wasn’t long or noodly like in the manga Watanuki is expressive so it would make sense that his poses are exaggerated. Watanuki has a variety of emotions in the concept art he looked mischievous and saucy compared to how we see him in the series he looked a lot younger like a middle schooler than what we see him now due to his poses and expressions Clamp toned down his mischievous expression to make him relatable. 

Domeki's concept art looked radically different, Domeki’s expression is a lot different in concept art even featuring a weird one of him smiling. Domeki's expression changed the impression of his character.

His smiling made him look smug, almost like you want to punch him.

The bottom one down below resembles the Domeki expression in the series.

Domeki did not have too many lines in his hair and looked simple in the sketch which makes it seem not too hard to draw. Domeki had deep eye folds and slanted sleepy eyes in the concept art, the slanted and sleepy eyes are something Clamp had trouble drawing since it had a lot of lines because of the lines they needed to use to ink.

Domekis’ his expression and eyes as something Clamp found tricky. since his expression changed the impression of his character and the lines in Domeki’s eyes made it difficult for Clamp to ink.

For Himawari’s concept art, Clamp didn’t change compared to her design in the main series. Himawari’s hair is curly and tied in twin tails her twin tails were curly in a spiral in the manga in the sketch in the concept art when she hasn’t inked the sketch her hair has a shape and silhouette

there are few lines in her bangs with her hair curly and curves at the end.

Himawari's previous design was reserved and mature but her design changed to look energetic and bright I think the reason why they changed her design was to give Himawari a more ominous feeling when she appeared in the manga. I think this change in her design is done intentionally by Clamp to not make Himawari’s ability to cause others misfortune to those around her obvious. I think the reason why Clamp chose this as Himawari's design is to be misleading they changed her design because they didn’t want Himawari's bad luck to be obvious in her design. 

Now time for the animation productions, Clamp was involved in animation productions and even had a hand in concept design for the characters with code Gauss being one of the main examples. Clamp is the main creator of Code Geass’s character designs; they had a hand in creating the characters for the series. 

For code geass, Clamp drew numerous characters and experimented with designs for the series The director led the direction of the designs and Clamp drew them Clamp wanted to see how much the director would allow in terms of design within the worldview view Clamp came up with various costumes and designs as a test for code geass 

The main character Lelouch is the only one with many sketches since he is the main character so he appears more than once.

The first concept art of Lelouch was colored with his first sketches.. 

Clamp took outside sources as inspirations for their designs with the characters for Lelouch whose real-life main influences in his character design are Japanese idol duos KinKi Kids and Tackey & Tsubasa, Clovis outfit resembles someone French court

and Schneizel's appearance in his design came from greek sculptures,

Sayoko looked more Japanese in her design,

Clamp drew Rolo with the image between Lelouch and Nunnally 

Looking at the concept art of code geass the lines are loose and not heavily detailed This is drawn to know where things are placed there are a lot of clean fine lines I guess that it's done by mechanical pencil.

When I talked about someone about code gauss concept art and how they drew a long time ago I realized one thing 

The lines in the concept art looked to be drawn by their wrists due to the long lines an artist can recognize if it's drawn by the wrist. 

The Clamp concept art for Code Geass looked more detailed compared to the rest of the concept art they did for manga, There may be more lines in the clothes. The clothes have more details in Code Geass mostly because it's drawn for an anime. The eyes in the characters are stylized, and both the eyes and jawline are darkened; you can see these both clearly in the face.

When it comes to hair in the concept art I tried to find out how it was drawn, The hair isn’t detailed compared to the illustration. When I view the hair in the concept art for the hair it flows naturally, goes everywhere has movement and uses few lines. I view the number of lines in hair and the bangs in concept art as short hair doesn’t have too many lines. When it comes to hair it focuses on the silhouette, general shape, lines, and movement, it uses simple lines when drawing the hair and bangs. The silhouette of the hair is drawn instead of the details in concept art.

Curly or wavy hair is a bunch of squiggly lines even if the bangs are curly or wavy.

The hair has curved lines for the hair that is wavy or curly even where the hair ends.

The long hair can be curly at the end too. The concept art splits the hair into sections and clumps the hair this is like drawing from out of the photograph.

Some Clamp art or concept art looked like realistic paintings drawn from a photograph.

For the next concept art: Kabuki Bu. It follows the same formula for the colored concept art. The pencil lines in the concept art meant that they drew it first with pencil and scanned it then the color on a computer or tablet they chose a base color in the concept art for the animation.

This isn’t the first time they drew digitally like with kabuki bu.

Rolo character assassination (Part 2!)

Continuing on from where we left, Jeremiah arrives and Shirley explains to him what happened and how she wants to fulfill Lelouch’s wish. Jeremiah too is super chill about everything. Rolo doesn’t even show up again during these scenes. Suddenly, Ar, the main character from Genesic Re;Code, interrupts what he’s seen from whatever different plane of existence he’s at, which also has versions of Lelouch and Shirley there with him (sorry, I haven’t read the main plot and don’t know the details, but Ar is an observer of the Code Geass stories). They discuss how this isn’t how the events should be unfolding. Shirley thinks she’s the origin of the corruption, because she has two sets of memories within herself: the memories of having died after being shot in Ikebukuro, and memories where that didn’t happen (a meta reference to the difference between R2 and the movies, I assume). But she asks Ar to watch the entire story because she wants to know what this new different version of herself is going to do. So yes, this is 100% a Shirley-centric story which didn’t need a Rolo alt nor Daichuu voicing his lines. And in my opinion, her character isn’t well written either: her single motivation in life seems to be doing what Lelouch asked her to do. Doesn’t she have a mom who won’t want her to join the Black Knights and put herself in danger? Doesn’t she develop any trauma after Rolo attempts to murder her and she has to watch her friend/crush slowly die in her stead? You don’t just experience something like that without your vision of the world drastically changing and needing to process what happened for months or years afterwards. How is she not deeply depressed and scared? 

I don’t think it’s likely that the original writers are involved with this gacha game, but come on, couldn’t they find someone who at least cared about the psychology of these characters? This is the show where Turn 7 was entirely dedicated to depicting how Lelouch almost lost his will to live after reaching the conclusion that his sister didn’t need him. All those minutes spent on highlighting how fragile his self-esteem is and how he depends so much on receiving external encouragement weren’t “necessary” for the plot to move forward, but they had to be there because that’s just how Lelouch would react if you take his personality up to that point and the survivor guilt he carries with him into account.  Anyway, so moving onto BK!Shirley and BK!Rolo...

Shirley joins the Black Knights and during some battle Rolo saves her, but I’m skipping that part since they don’t have any interesting interactions. But then both have a longer conversation:

Shirley “Rolo, so this is where you were. Do you have a moment?”

Rolo “What is it?” Shouldn’t that be “Yes, miss Shirley *smiles while his eyes turn red*”? He’s forced to obey her, remember, scriptwriter?

Shirley “About the battle from before, why did you save me?”

Rolo “... That’s because... That’s because Brother’s Geass makes me...”

Shirley “Don’t lie. Lulu’s orders were to obey me, not to protect me.” 

Rolo “Then I’ll ask you instead. Why don’t you order me to die? I killed Brother with these hands. Don’t you hate me?” WHY would he care whether she hates him or not. He is the one who absolutely shouldn’t be able to forgive himself. PLEASE KILL YOURSELF, ROLO. If he has to remain alive, his only possible state of mind would be returning to the times when he felt nothing. Going back to seeing himself as a tool, but now even more convinced about his inability to become "human” than ever after destiny made him murder the only hope of being a normal person that he was desperately holding onto. A mute zombie who expresses no emotions. Not that that’s the way to make Rolo fans happy, but at least you’d recognize that the writers paid attention to what the realistic outcome of accidentally killing Lelouch would be like for Rolo. With this Genesic Re;Code character though, I want to be the one who yells “YOU IMPOSTER!” at him.

Shirley “I hated you. But I don’t anymore” I think she should hate him for intentionally trying to give her a painful death, rather than accidentally killing Lelouch.

Shirley “I’ve been thinking all this time about when Lulu died. Why did it turn out like that. What could have been done for Lulu not to die. What kind of thoughts did Lulu have. And among those things, I was curious about why Lulu gave you the Geass command to obey me. (The Japanese text says “There were other commands. But Lulu didn’t do that”, which, even though you can understand what she means from context, gramatically makes no sense. BK!Rolo’s Home lines also include one where he says “I don’t remember the amount of people I’ve killed. Excluding one person”, which are also sentences that don’t go together when you actually stop and read them out loud. It adds to the suspicion that all of this was written by someone who didn’t put much care into what they were doing...)

Rolo “That’s... to ensure the success of Uncage Protocol. To save Nunnally, isn’t it...?”

Shirley “That’s also one of the reasons. But I thought that it wasn’t just that. Lulu wanted you to live too. I’d say he wanted you to live in a world that has been turned peaceful.”

Yeah sure whatever, Shirley. I, the player, was there too when it happened and unfortunately Lelouch was completely indifferent towards Rolo. In fact, Rolo was completely indifferent towards Lelouch! Only Shirley was interacting with Lulu and crying for him and responding to his death with the determination to fulfill his wish and all of that. And as much as I do believe Lelouch cared about Rolo before Turn 19, it would be stupid and out of character of him to realize that he wants Rolo to be happy right when he saw him intending to murder Shirley and managing to cause his death. 

Rolo “He did? No way...”

Shirley “At least I believe so. That’s why I don’t want you to die”

Rolo “Shirley-san... I think the same. I don’t want you to die either. Because you, whom Brother protected with his life, are the only connection with Brother that I have left...” He really doesn’t feel one bit guilty that he shot him, huh. 

Shirley “I see. The fact that I’m alive is Rolo and Lulu’s connection. If that’s so, then I have to make sure I live and Uncage Protocol is a success.” Shirley trying to turn herself into proof that lulurolo is real?? What even is this conversation.

Rolo “Shirley-san...” Could you please give me permission to stop holding my wrist.

Shirley “I too have decided what it is that I have to do, Rolo. Please continue to give me your support” She says ‘korekara mo yoroshiku’, which is always hard to translate but can also be something like “let’s keep getting along”.

Rolo “Yes!” Wow. Creepy face. ------- To be continued! Sigh, I feel so uncomfortable seeing this Rolo and knowing that he’s forced to exist with the memory that he was the one to cause Lelouch’s death! The flashbacks to that moment, the endless rumination that he will forever be going through! NEVERMIND THAT, HE’S TOTALLY FINE!! Really, you can even keep these interactions between Rolo and Shirley intact if you just change a single detail: just don’t kill Lelouch! Make it so he's hospitalized but both Rolo and Shirley are hopeful that he will return to their lives. So Shirley decides to join the Black Knights to help him achieve his goals while he’s recovering. Now, Rolo has a reason to want to stay alive and help her in order to redeem himself for the moment when Lelouch is back. Also have Lelouch tell him something like “I told you to stop doing these things, Rolo...” before losing consciousness (not dying), so he doesn’t completely ignore Rolo and inspires him to reflect on his actions without having to Geass him. Wouldn’t the fans of all three of the characters prefer that?
