stupid orthography ideas: use <ë> and <ä> for /ə/ and /ɐ/ respectively, where the double dot is essentially saying, "this vowel but the neutral tone one"
( and yes I know [ə] & [e] and [a] and [ɐ] are different heights. realistically it's probably more like /ə ~ ɘ/ for <ë> at the very least while /ɐ/ is just any open central-ish vowel. shh. its fine. I built this three-way a-ɐ-ɑ distinction and I'm NOT changing it even if it'll make the orthography easier. fuck you, me )

Do druids ever actively recruit to let people know they can join?
Short answer: In the Reformed Druids of North America (RDNA) you're not supposed to recruit members. Some other druid orders promote recruiting.
There was a time in the 1970s when a member of the RDNA priesthood was actively recruiting people as fast as he could in order to bring them into the Council so that he'd have a majority in his favor to pass his legislative ideas. He was specifically targeting people in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) crowd.
His actions were a bit alarming to the members of the Council of Dalon Ap Landu as his proposals included major departure from the original spirit of Reformed Druidism. One of the Chairpersons emeritus of the Council suggested granting veto power to every member of the Council over any piece of legislation they deemed un-Reformed. They figured it would be too difficult to implement given that it would be an obvious move to prevent power grabs.
Luckily, there were many "recruits" who were in fact more sympathetic to the true spirit of Reformed Druidism, and the idea to get a supermajority was ultimately a failure. That led to the scheming member of the priesthood breaking away and form the New Reformed Druids of North America and the Schismatic Druids of North America. The latter served as the inspiration for the foundation of Ár nDraíocht Féin (ADF) which today is a neopagan branch of druidism that is a business and does actively recruit members.
Reformed Druidism still says that we should not recruit others, but to passively let them join because they want to of their own free will. However we are allowed to make ourselves discoverable through social media, indicating who we are without pushing for a call to action. That's tricky though, since groups under the RDNA (including Oakdale Grove) are accepting new members. We can't just say "join us!" So instead I word it something like "we are open to new membership" which is more neutral.

HotD vs GoT (season 1) ?
I've seen many comparisons between the two and according to some critics (quite a lot of them tbh) HotD is superior or has a potential to be because... reasons. Now, while I do believe that, while comparisons are always odious they sometimes make, but this one is really weird and unjust because a lot of people are still disappointed with how GoT ended (personally, I wasn't happy with how some things played out either, especially in the last two seasons, but I am definitely not that upset four years later and actually remember the show as a whole more or less fondly) and this disappointment together with anti D&D discourse probably clouds the judgement. However, they seem to ignore that GoT had 8 seasons and was mostly well liked and praised until the last two, while HOTD has barely begun and already has many problems writing-wise imho. Will those same people, after HOTD ends (and there is no way that everyone will be satisfied with the ending) retrospectively start to hate everything they are praising right now, I wonder? I do sincerely hope that HotD will improve and that every new season will be better then the previous one, but based strictly on the first seasons (I recently rewatched GoT s1) it's GoT >> HotD.
What do you think?
I didn't like GOT. I didn't watch it properly. I tuned in to see how they did some of the bigger moments like Red Wedding and Purple Wedding, and I watched the last two seasons just for asoiaf closure, and honestly, I liked the GOT ending, more or less.
Not Dany being killed by Jon, or Arya vs Night King, or King Bran, but Dany burning the whole place down. Her arc's sort of going there in the books imo. I'm a simple woman—I'm in this for the dragons and for Drogon burning things. I wanted to see Stoneheart and Young Griff and those storylines, but I will take Drogon burning things.
I truly don't get the pretense that HOTD is better than GOT or that Codal & co are in any way better than D&D. I'm giving them less points actually because they saw how GOT unraveled and they've made zero improvements. D&D at least have an excuse—Martin promised to have the books finished when they started. They signed on to adapt, not finish asoiaf on their own strengths. It's a complicated thing that even the creator is struggling with after a decade. They tried, at least.
Codal and co are already floundering in S1. They've already lost narrative coherence. Even the characters aren't coherent. And yes, you can use a time skip to just wave a "People change" flag at all the inconsistencies but come on.
In their defence tho, "And then all the hyper-intelligent special rare sentient magic dragons killed each other in the stupidest ways ever for no real reason" is not an easy story to tell without an extreme amount of hand-waving.
I don't think F&B should exist. I think Martin should have looked it over a couple of times like "Hot six-year-old? Jumping from one dragon to another? WTF is this? This ain't it. Nope."
Honestly, I think HBO just has a bunch of media people on the payroll hyping them up so they can use the emmys for free advertising. Brian Cox is up for a lead actor Emmy with a grand total of three episodes? It's not TV, just HBO living by HBO rules. If they say it's better then it's better. 🤷🏾‍♀️

The Visionary's Nightmare
Summary: Logan Sanders was not a rich man. He lived in the poverty sector of the city of Archaeus, where crates were remodeled into barely-livable huts, food and water were scarce, and crime was abundant. He himself was no stranger to illegality, stealing often just to get by. But when he meets Virgil Callaghan, a wealthy scientist who works at Syneuron, his whole world starts to turn upside down as secrets from the past are beginning to become uncovered.
[First] [Previous] [Next] [AO3]
Chapter 7: Meet Up
a deal is struck.
⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼
Logan stared at his HoloHue (or, as he liked to call it, his messenger, as ‘HoloHue’ sounded fake and marketable, because it was), the holographic display casting a faint blue light over his face as the message from Janus remained there, glaring up at him.
Wanted to organize a meet up. Roof of old Codall building? - S
There was really only one person that could have sent the message, considering he only gave his messenger information to Janus and no one else (not even Remus, considering he didn’t want to be spammed every hour or so, Janus, at least, only messaged when necessary).
He considered the proposition for a bit. The Codall building was essentially Syneuron before Syneuron existed and the megacorp was established, a tech company that was bought out and absorbed into the monopoly. Its main headquarters were in the poverty section of Archaeus before the walls were in place and there were sectors at all. Now, the building has long since been abandoned and run-down, and it was a place that Logan and the pair used to meet up before they discovered better spots. He found himself wondering why Janus would pick this spot out of all places.
Sure. - C
A response came back almost immediately.
Glad to see you didn’t take too long to answer this, Corvid. I know you’re quite forgetful. Tomorrow, 11 p.m., don’t be late. - S
Logan rolled his eyes at Janus’ usual snark and typed out.
Copy. - C
He set the messenger down and got to preparing dinner, some fruit and jerky, washed down with some stale water that he had left from last night.
Honestly? One of his better meals.
Logan looked down at his sleeping roll on the ground and a grimace formed on his face. He had a little too much energy to go to sleep and he was feeling restless, which led to him running and jumping from building to building until he arrived at the pond. A little area of nature in a sector full of desolation.
He sat there, watching the water ripple gently until the sun rose and washed the city in a warm light.
⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼⎼
Logan climbed a ladder to the top of the abandoned building, the chill of the night washing over him despite wearing a hoodie, the cold metal of the ladder freezing against his human hand.
“Fuck you, Janus. Why couldn’t you have picked a better spot?” he huffed out, scowling. He reached for the last rung on the ladder, heaving himself up to the top. He adjusted his fingerless gloves as he stood, glancing at the figure on the other side of the building.
“Okay, Janus, spit it out, why are we here?” Logan yelled, sighing as he shoved his hands into his pockets.
In the distance, Logan could see him turning to look at him once he shouted that out. He walked towards him, his cybernetic eye casting a faint blue glow on the ground.
As that light washed over the person in front of him, Logan looked up only to realize that this was not Janus.
Moving on autopilot, he grabbed the other person’s arm and twisted it behind their back, kicking his legs out from under them and putting them in a chokehold, knife in hand near the other’s neck.
“Who the fuck are you?” Logan hissed out.
“Came…to talk,” the other choked out, his free arm flailing about. Then, he grabbed Logan’s hair and yanked it hard, making Logan loosen his grip as he instinctively recoiled in pain. They shoved their elbow up under Logan’s jaw and stomped on his foot, getting away from Logan’s hold as they tried to desperately breathe air back into their empty lungs.
“Wanted to…” he took a deep breath, “make a deal. Jan said he’d organize this meeting,” he let out a cough before he got his breathing somewhat under control.
Logan stared at him, knife in his hand and every muscle in his body tense and ready to lunge. “…What’s your name?” he asked in a flat tone.
The other hesitated for a moment. “Call me Vee.”
“Well, Vee. You can take that deal you wanted to make and shove it up your ass. I don’t trade with outsiders. Sorry, not sorry, goodbye,” Logan turned to move away, but Vee’s hand shot out to grab his arm and tug him back, forcing Logan to face them. In the closer proximity, Logan got a clearer view of the other.
Messy black hair that flopped onto his forehead, paler skin tone (not a pallor, more like he just didn’t go outside that much) and a bit of acne on his face. Purple and green eyes stared right at him, a hint of nervousness, but also determination alight in them. He was tall, taller than Logan by about 5 inches, and piercings decorated his right ear with only one on the left. His clothes were obviously well-made, and he didn’t have the haunted and bedraggled look of someone who grew up in the poorer sectors of Archaeus, all signs pointing to being rich.
Logan hated him already.
They wore a small necklace of a crescent moon around their neck and there were slight bags under their eyes (Logan could relate). Struck by a realization, Logan suddenly realized this was the jackass from the night when he tried to get that robot.
Continuing his inspection, he caught sight of something and narrowed his eyes, leaning forward and snatching something from around their neck that was hiding under their shirt.
A Syneuron ID that read:
VIRGIL CALLAGHAN - HEAD OF SCIENTIFIC DEPARTMENT - TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS  (HE/THEY)
Logan stared up at Vee-no, at Virgil and glared at him.
“You work at Syneuron?” he asked, his voice no more than a whisper.
Virgil snatched the ID and shoved it back under their shirt. “Shut the fuck up, jackass, don’t yell it out. I’m not even supposed to be here, alright?”
“What do you want?” Logan asked flatly, the glare never leaving his face.
“Like I said, a deal. I want that piece of tech and my phone that you stole back in my possession. I’ll give you money for it.”
Logan scoffed at him, “Yeah sure, I’ll totally give it back for some fucking credits. No, tell me what’s on that blueprint exactly and what it’s about.”
Virgil stared at him in horror. “You got onto the blueprint?” he asked hoarsely. “I mean, god, fuck , it’s…it’s nothing of importance. I just need it back, alright? And my phone. I’ll pay, I swear.”
“Tell me what’s on it.”
“No!”
Logan looked at Virgil for a bit, contemplating his next choice. “Well, if it’s nothing of importance, then I suppose you won’t mind if I break it into a million pieces?”
“No! God fucking damn it, I’ll tell you, alright? Just…don’t break it.”
Logan raised an eyebrow and waved his hand, gesturing for him to continue on.
“It’s…” Virgil took a deep breath, “It’s regarding the crime rate and how to cut down on it, hence the upgraded security measures. That’s it, really.”
Logan looked at them for a bit, seeing a bead of sweat trickle down their face and their hands fidgeting, eyes shifting and looking everywhere but at him. He scoffed.
“If you think I’m believing that bullshit, then you must think I’m a fucking idiot. Tell me the truth or it’s going to be destroyed.”
Logan knew all the signs of lying, and Virgil had marked off every box as if it were a checklist.
Virgil pinched the bride of his nose, “Just—fuck, okay, can you bring it here and then we’ll make a trade off. I give the information, you give the tech back. Okay?”
Logan considered him for a moment, gauging the other’s thoughts. Fortunately, Virgil’s face was an open book, and it was one that read of pure desperation.
He would be willing to give almost anything to get it back, which meant it was important, which meant that perhaps it was worth holding onto it, even if it was just for a little while, enough to explore it fully. He couldn’t just give Virgil nothing though Naturally, he would make a copy.
Logan quickly calculated how fast he could make a copy of the project, and estimated that it would take about 2 days.
“Give me 2 days' time, and I’ll bring it back. Same spot, same time,” he said after a long moment.
“Why 2 days? Do you not have it...wherever you live?” Virgil asked, eyes narrowing suspiciously.
Ah, so he wasn’t a complete idiot then.
“I have to remove any traces of my fingerprints and decrease the likelihood of this,” Logan waved his hand back and forth at the two of them, “being traced back to me, which takes time. So, yes, 2 days. Is there a problem with that?” Logan came up with a lie quickly, almost automatically. Practice makes perfect, he supposed.
Logan watched Virgil work their jaw back and forth before they sighed.
“Fine. 2 days. But if you’re lying to me…” he let the threat hang in the air.
Logan was only all too aware that despite having the upper hand currently, Virgil was far more influential, connected, and, well, rich. He bit back a scowl and a grimace, only nodding.
“2 days.”

15 and 17 please Blue!
15. Do you write in the margins of your books? Dog-ear your pages? Read in the bath? Why or why not? Do you judge people who do these things? Can we still be friends?
For fiction, I usually read online, but on the rare occasions I do read physical books, I definitely dog-ear. If we are counting my codals and commentaries for school though, then yes, I have done all three - including highlighters too XD
We can always be friends, Cat 😌
17. Talk to me about the minutiae of your current WIP. Tell me about the lore, the history, the detail, the things that won’t make it in the text.
Ooh not a WIP, but for Blue Blooded, I created an history for the blood-replenishing potion just so I can justify my blood transfusion spell. And because of this ask, I have more thoughts XD.
I hc that the blood-replenishing potion is a relatively recent invention. Prior to it, healers used the blood transfusion spell. The spell itself was complicated, but the greater danger was that the caster had to be the one donating blood themself. There was also no automatic stopping to the spell as well, so it was entirely possible for the caster to drain themself of blood. Of course, since blood loss often resulted to dizziness and fainting, this made the spell extremely dangerous to use.
The blood transfusion spell is now obsolete, and it is no longer taught in healer training except in history classes. The blood-replenishing potion was revolutionary in the field of healing at the time, and continues to be life-saving up to today.
I decided to cut this out because it had no use in the story, but you guys get to get my nerdery now XD.

Is Law School for Everyone?
Had there been a time during your younger years living on this planet an incident predicting your future career would be, events like you were appreciated because of how you deal with people, how you explained and argued with them in necessities, and motivated to be a lawyer someday? Well, that was the most appreciating part, nevertheless, everyone grew up with a finite way to build his career, some said that I chose this career because this is what I want to do since I grew up, and some said that this career had chosen by my parents and no other choices should be available.
Fast forward, graduated with your degree of choice or passion and asked yourself to decide whether to pursue a graduate degree or just work and earn a living. A yellow bulb appeared and eventually pushed oneself to enroll in law school.
Upon going to the preferred law school, numerous doubts and anxieties popped in on each mind and some thought of giving up getting a seat in law school, and some pushed through for the future career of their dreams, here comes the law admission test of the preferred law school, and the announced admission interview after the test.
Successfully passed both examinations ( Law admission test and the interview ), full of excitement, drawn gargantuan expectations, and even informed friends, and relatives that they have passed those examinations, and they are going to law school. Invested in books, codals, and bought school supplies and even gadgets as someone who is inspired to attend law lectures and case recitations.
During the week-long night classes, everyone is debating about their stands, defending of each decision, here come other professors who would scrutinize anyone and is infamously known as despotic inside the class as eavesdropped from seniors’ meeting in their rendezvous. This would be the time for decision-making process as everyone is deciding whether or not to quit in law school. Every single time everyone is swarming the classroom and attending classes, one classmate at a time left the room and telling the beadle giving up law school.
To answer the question, law school is open for anyone who wishes to study but anyone is expected to leave the premises drizzling tears off the floor as getting one’s backpack leaving the room swiftly without even reaching the second semester. It is a survival of the fittest in law school and whether you like it or not, you must like it and be used to it every single day.
Thank you for your time, please let me know about your experience in law school too.

i hate the only thing i'm good for
February 28, 2024, 8:49 PM in front of a desk on an island (a real one) somewhere
Bad brain moments!
And I know this is a bad brain moment because I think I hate writing! But please bear with me!
I've spent the past two days playing Coral Island instead of writing down my long, lengthy, time-sensitive articles or studying my equally heavy load of readings for three bar subjects.
Turns out, if I had to choose between succumbing to the devil or the deep blue sea, I would rather just log 20+ hours into a farming sim running around making sure my virtual plants are not dying and cleaning up pixel-corals on a screen.
Not very Good Job of me, hence my current emotional situation of sadness and disappointment.
To be fair this is just another cycle of win-big-and-lose-harder. I've had plenty of those since turning 23. This time, I was unable to write about it because I was too busy celebrating the win by redownloading Tiktok and also virtually rummaging through trash for profit and garbage right after the class, but I had a pretty good recit for ObliCon, a subject which I dreaded since it was the biggest bar subject we'd take (5 units!), I'm not very good at numbers, and my classmates are already Certified Public Accountants.
But I got it! I read the case and the book and presented the facts as well as I should but holyyyy shit did I ride that win so hard I crested and fell like a nearsighted kingfisher diving for its own reflection.
I made a very comprehensive reviewer for another subject on Sunday, and that's about it- that same day I attended a work event that I would fail to follow up on for two days, then a testimonial dinner in which I won a codal but didn't get it because I had to go home (because I'm broke and couldn't call a rideshare, and my ride home was also going home early), and then spent the next two days interviewing heavy hitting topics but not making a move to do stuff.
I don't have ADHD, or Executive Dysfunction. Or at least, I haven't been diagnosed for them yet, but if self-diagnosis is enough I just think I'm incredibly lazy and also starting my period.
Which I did, by the way. Right at the tail end of the Full Moon in fucking Virgo- this particular placement by the way HITTING my 10H-4H axis, and also in the middle of a Hellenistic void moon period, so obviously I wasn't getting any work done.
But if astrological terminology is inaccessible to you, that might read like someone making excuses for not working on her stuff and saving her the pain of following up two days later overworked and underpaid.
And you will be right! But that does not make my situation any better. Anyway. Rawr.
(30) 9:02 PM, same place.
