I don’t have much to share as this month has been absolutely bonkers and next month isn’t looking much better. But I have a little from my COBB and a smaller but from Sugar, We’re Going Down Swingin. I keep thinking how nice it would be to finish last year COBB before posting this years and I’m still hoping I can do that. I believe in me!

COBB:

I’m on my second coat of primer when I hear the loud bang of a door followed by a string of impressive curses. The water starts to run followed by a long stretch of silence. Just as I dip my paint brush back in the pale, I hear Baz call out to me.

“Snow?” My feet are on their way to him before the rest of me has time to think it through. “Simon? I - uh - I need your help.”

I pick up speed and for a second I debate sliding down the banister, but Baz already sounds on edge and I don’t think my arse polishing the railing will lighten the mood.

I find him in the kitchen with his hand under a stream of water, facing away from the sink, and looking paler than normal.

“What happened?!” My voice pitching high in the middle.

Sugar aka hockey fic:

Before I can second guess myself, I crouch down to the kids level, the awful rubber boots making a squeaking sound as I get comfortable, and I hand him the signed fish. He takes it and stares at the two signatures, my huge elaborate one and Simon’s smaller scribble.

“I’ll be listening for you,” I say, hoping it’s enough. Hoping I didn’t make him regret meeting me.

Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate! After a rotten Friday at the animal shelter where I work, I got a very pleasant surprise yesterday when a pregnant stray who came in gave birth to five live and healthy kittens! I might share some pics later on :) In the meantime, thank you @forabeatofadrum and @you-remind-me-of-the-babe for the tags this morning, as well as everyone else who’s continued to tag me on other days. I’ve been pretty slow writing lately, but I do have some shares this week!

First, a bit of kid!Baz POV from my COBB:

In the afternoons, I do my homework as soon as we get home and sometimes call my father. He never has much to say. I’ll offer to help Dev with his work and then water the herbs in the conservatory, reminding myself of the names and uses of each one. Dogtooth violet to stop gossip, bay leaves for wish making and prophetic dreams. Tarragon for confidence, St. John’s Wort to stave off colds and fevers. Basil can drive off dark spirits. I rub the leaves between my fingers, remembering Ebb’s lessons as the fresh summer scent breaks across my skin. “Basil can dispel confusion, boys. It turns back fear and weakness, and is used in exorcisms. Carry it with you to protect yourselves from danger, or spread it on the ground to keep away evil. It’s also sometimes used to bring lovers together.” Dev had elbowed me and sniggered, because of course we both associate the herb with my name. I don’t see how any of it relates to me, but it doesn’t really matter. It’s just what I’m called.

And the next is from a sequel I suddenly started writing to Field Trip of Dreams (god I still hate that that’s the title I gave it). I wouldn’t say it’s necessary to read the first fic, although it gives context for the fact that Baz and Simon are dating in eighth year, and everyone but the Mage knows it. It’s a longish share, but I’m enjoying writing so have it:

“Isolation Cabin?” Basilton is repeating in disbelief. His eyes narrow. “But Sir, whatever will we do if we get to talking and discover we were separated at birth?”

Simon understandably pales, but Davy merely snorts and waves a dismissive hand. “Unlikely, Mr. Pitch. Now, both of you grab your rucksacks while I conjure a bird to lead you to the cabin. It’s…out of the way.”

The rest of the students are in fits, but of course Davy doesn’t notice. He pays attention to nothing and nobody when he thinks he’s in the right. Simon has shouldered his own pack and is staring into the middle distance, refusing to look at anyone. Of course, Natasha Pitch’s son has to get in one last dig: “What’s next, a get-along shirt?”

Basilton’s unimpressed expression is fooling no one—I know blessed well that he’d only love that. “Davy,” I try one last time. “This weekend is supposed to be providing these students with a chance to learn how to get along as a community of mages. Splitting two of them off will deprive them of the chance—”

“Miss Possibelf.” I suppose it’s amusing that after all these years Davy doesn’t dare use my first name. “I know what I’m doing. Boys this age need a firm hand—” How does he not hear the sniggering going on behind him? “—and I’ve had just about enough.” After seven years. Seven years, and he’s had enough? Davy finally acknowledges me enough to turn and lower his voice. “Quite frankly, one of them has nothing to learn about survival, while the other doesn’t need to.” This last part is said in a hushed whisper, even though from the way Basilton’s eyebrow lifts, I’m certain he heard it.

I share his disdain for the sentiment, however, I’m not particularly concerned about his chances—here, or anywhere else. “Fine,” I snap, throwing my hands up. It’s not as though this trip isn’t always an annual excuse for all kinds of unsanctioned…exploration. Simon and Basilton aren’t likely to get up to anything they haven’t already, and I have bigger fish to fry given the amount of alcohol students traditionally smuggle on this fool’s exercise. David Cadwallader can be as blind as he likes, but some of us are left nursing the hangovers.

This week I have been mainly working on my snowbaz fic for the @carry-on-big-bang.

Here's a snippet (Baz's pov):

I hear his bike before I see him. I’m walking Fiona’s crazy chihuahua, but it feels more like flying a kite from how hard he’s pulling on the bloody leash. 

“Calm your fucking tits, Titan,” I hiss at him, but then the little menace starts barking like mad at the roaring motorbike as if he were challenging the vehicle to a bloodthirsty duel. I’m about to give the biker a piece of my mind for potentially causing Fiona’s dog an aneurysm, when he pulls over and takes his helmet off.

I suddenly feel catapulted into one of those Coca-Cola adverts where the ladies at the office drool over the extremely attractive glass cleaner. Except that it’s just me and Titan here (but I’m pretty sure he’s gay, too), and fuck—those bronze curls. The blue eyes and that skin covered in freckles and moles. 

I’ve been waiting for him my whole life, languishing in this fucking remote village in the English countryside. 

I decide instantly to make it my life’s mission to get Freckles to stay.

“The game is on, Titan.”

“Arf!” he barks back.

“Sorry, he’s mine. You’ll have to try your luck with Dev’s unhinged pug.”

I haven't posted anything from my COBB yet because it is *highkey* psyching me out. I'm stressin'. I definitely overreached with this one. The first two chapters flowed out a couple months ago, and now I'm staring at my loose outline (chaotic plantser to the max) and wondering how the f*ck I'm gonna do this thing. Write, I guess?

It's so very different in tone and vibes from lost boys. So that's been fun. (Speaking of, I know I said chapter two would be published this week, but it's getting final artistic touches from @iamamythologicalcreature. Will publish when it's ready for y'all!)

Only the booze made me think of Baz more, not less. And then the weed made me horny and reckless. Then Smith turned up. He’s hot. I’ve always thought so, but never acted on it because of my brand. My straight, homespun, golden boy next door image that Davy created, and now I’m fucking handcuffed to it. Someone at the party started reading Baz's poem—the naff one some magazine published—solo cup in one hand, phone in the other, as she stood on a goddamn table, swooning over his use of simile or whatever the fuck, and I went mental. Found Smith in the empty kitchen and just ... attacked his face. I liked it. I liked kissing a dude.

I'm continuing to play around with my COBB fic. There are whole major plot points that are just big ?s in my doc and in my mind right now, but I've written a few sentences that I feel really good about. So it goes!

From Simon's POV:

“You’d go to the ball with Dev?” I demand. Agatha shrugs. “We should find you a date for the ball, Si.” “Well, we’ve just learned Niall’s taken,” I say sarcastically. “Isn’t there anyone you like?” Agatha pushes. Probably trying to distract from her own prospects. I feel scratchy, my magic pushing angrily up to the surface. This isn’t something you just discuss. And anyway. “Not really. Maybe I just don’t get romantic feelings.” “Nonsense, Si. There’s someone for everyone.”

❤️❤️ yay! This fic has been a perpetual thorn in my side bc it’s the only fic I’ve got with a deadline and I am struggling. But I’ve got a line on where I want to go, plus a few songs that are inspiring me. It’s just the matter of putting pen to paper, you know?

@fandomtrumpshate is a pan-fandom fanworks auction that raises money for good causes: environmental protection and restoration, trans rights, support for people leaving hate groups, resources for people seeking abortions, advocacy for disabled people, and much more.

Over the past seven years, thousands of fans have joined forces through the auction to raise nearly $240,000 for a variety of small progressive nonprofits.

so how does this work?

There are two steps:

Fan creators sign up to offer fanworks in exchange for donations. As a creator, you'll be able to say what you would (and wouldn't) be able and willing to create: not just fanwork type, but themes and ships and genre tropes that you're excited about (or uncomfortable with.) You'll also be able to specify which of this year's supported nonprofits you want your fanwork to support (though you always have the option of letting your bidder choose among any of them.) You can offer to create up to three different fanworks, and for up to three different fandoms for each offer. Creator signups are open now, and they run until Feb 19th. You can sign up here!

Fans bid competitively for the opportunity to give those creators a specific prompt. If you win an auction, you will make a donation to one of the organizations selected by the creator whose auction you've won. Once you've done that, you and your creator can start talking about the fanwork they will create for you! Bidding will run from March 5th - March 9th.

Last year, there was one (1) FAM fanwork offered in the auction (by me.) I'm pretty sure we can blow that number out of the water together.

I have a cool month before I have to travel for teenage Odds ever revolving sport schedule. I'm going to try to make the best of it!

Here's a teaser for my COBB piece this year:

He keeps the house unbearably warm though. I don’t know how he can stand it, walking around in proper trousers and a button up long sleeve shirt. It’s just spring, so the mornings are a bit chilled but by late afternoon I’ve shucked off my shirt because I’ve sweat through it.  Yesterday, as I was leaving, I ran straight into Baz as he was coming out of a room and I was walking down the hallway looking anywhere but in front of me. I’d yet to put my shirt back on, and I definitely left a Simon sized sweat mark on his fancy shirt. He ran off in a hurry. Probably to get some stain remover on it.

Since I'm late to the game today I won't tag anyone, but feel free to pretend I did and share your stuff!

THURS, February 1st: Emails will go out to writers with a link to a form asking for fic concepts

WED, February 7th 11:59 PM PST: Fic concepts from writers due. From there the mods will ready them for claiming

WED, February 14th - THURS, February 15th: Preview Days (Artist can view the writers' concepts)

FRI, February 16th, 09:00 AM PST: Claims open

MON, February 19th, 11:59 PM PST: Claims close

SUN, February 25th: Teams are announced via email and expected to get in touch with each other

SAT, March 9th: Team Check-In #1 is emailed to participants. Just a small survey to check the progress with your partner. Not a deadline for anything. MUST RESPOND BY SATURDAY, MARCH 16TH 11:59 PM PDT.

In-Depth Schedule:

Sign-Ups open on Monday, January 1th at 12:00 pm (Noon) PST. It will be a simple google form to fill out, just like last year! You’ll be asked to enter your contact information (email, tumblr handle, discord) and agree to our rules. Both writers and artists must sign up by Wednesday, January 31st 11:59 pm PST. 

After completing the sign-up form, you’ll receive an email from us confirming that we have entered your data into our participants tables! You must reply to your confirmation email to be considered a participant. 

Writers, on February 1st you will receive a link to a form to submit your fic concept. You can fill this out at any time but it must be submitted by Wednesday, February 7th 11:59 pm PST. If your idea changes just send a message to one of the mods (via email, tumblr, or discord) telling us and fill out the form again. You can only fill out this form once per team, as more concepts will tell the mods that you want to be on more than one team.

We will organize the fic concepts and put them on airtable, where all artists will be able to see the fic concepts on Wednesday, February 14th. Claiming begins the following Friday, February 16th 9:00 am PST and lasts until Monday, February 19th 11:59 pm PST.

Teams will be announced Sunday, February 25th. From there on we’re leaving it up to you and your partner to talk about what you’re doing! 

We’re going to have a small check-in on Saturday, March 9th for us to see how the teams are doing. All people in your team must fill out the check-in forms (special note for co-writing: Only 1 of your writers needs to do this). The responses for this are due Saturday, March 16th, 11:59 pm PDT.

We’re going to have another check-in on Saturday, May 4th to see where in the process you are and if there’s anything we can do to help. Responses for this are due Thursday, May 9th 11:59 pm PDT.

We have our final check-in on Saturday, June 8th to see how the entire process went for you and what we can do in the future! Responses for this are due Thursday, June 20th 11:59 pm PDT. If neither you or your partner respond your team will be considered dropped out.

The posting schedule comes out on Saturday, June 22th. Every participant will receive an email from us on this date saying when your assigned date for posting is.Posting will take place from Monday, July 1st to Monday, July 15th.

Happy Sunday everyone! Thank you for the tags today @nausikaa and @youarenevertooold, and everyone who’s tagged me in the past week! There’s so much good work being done right now!

I’m still working on the next chapter of my CORB story, but I’ve begun work on my COBB collaboration and will share a few more than six sentences today—I’m not entirely sure if I’m off on the right foot. I’m hoping the whole thing will look better when I’m finished 🤞

They’ve gone racing across the lower field just now, Dev pulling Baz by the hand, crowns of wild flowers winding around their heads. That will have been Baz’s doing; Dev may have made a start on his, but he’s not got the patience to have finished it, not so that it would hold together at least. They throw themselves down on their backs in the plush green clover, Baz facing north and Dev south, heads on each other’s shoulders as they stare up at the sky. I can just make out their small faces, laughing and serious by turns as they whisper in each other’s ears. What I wouldn’t give to be that young and resilient again!

I’m happy they’re close. I’m happy that in the midst of their darkest hours, they’ve each had a hand to cling tight to. I know well enough how much they’ll need someone to depend on as they grow.

When Donald Trump formally declares his 2024 candidacy, he won’t just be running for another term in the White House. He’ll be running away from legal troubles, possible criminal charges, and even the specter of prison time.

In recent months, Trump has made clear to associates that the legal protections of occupying the Oval Office are front-of-mind for him, four people with knowledge of the situation tell Rolling Stone.

Trump has “spoken about how when you are the President of the United States, it is tough for politically motivated prosecutors to ‘get to you,'” says one of the sources, who has discussed the issue with Trump this summer. “He says when [not if] he is President again, a new Republican administration will put a stop to the [Justice Department] investigation that he views as the Biden administration working to hit him with criminal charges — or even put him and his people in prison.”

Presidential immunity and picking his own Attorney General aren’t Trump’s only reasons for running again. And as he works on another run, Trump is in a tug-of-war with leaders and operatives of his own party about when to announce, according to multiple people with knowledge of the matter.

The former-President is motivated to announce early — even before Election Day 2022 — in the hopes of clearing the field of primary rivals. But GOP leaders, including some of Trump’s closest advisors, don’t want him to declare his intentions until after the midterm elections. The GOP wants to keep voters focused on President Joe Biden, rather than transforming the contest into a referendum on Trump. In recent months, Trump has reluctantly agreed to hold off, only to return shortly thereafter with threats to make an early announcement, either out of self-interest, spite, or some combination of the two.

But as Trump talks about running, the four sources say, he’s leaving confidants with the impression that, as his criminal exposure has increased, so has his focus on the legal protections of the executive branch.

It’s not just liberal wish-casters or Trump critics who are acknowledging the former-President’s legal jeopardy. Trump’s teams of lawyers and former senior administration officials speak about it commonly. “I do think criminal prosecutions are possible…for Trump and [former-White House Chief of Staff Mark] Meadows certainly,” Ty Cobb, a former top lawyer in Trump’s White House, bluntly told Rolling Stone late last month.

Trump himself seems to acknowledge potential problems. He “said something like, ‘[prosecutors] couldn’t get away with this while I was President,’” another one of the four sources recalls. “It was during a larger discussion about the investigations, other possible 2024 [primary] candidates, and what people were saying about the Jan. 6 hearings … He went on for a couple minutes about how ‘some very corrupt’ people want to ‘put me in jail.’”

The powers of the presidency would offer a welcome pause to the various civil suits and criminal investigations now hanging over Trump. It’s unclear whether the Justice Department will charge Trump in connection with fomenting the January 6 insurrection, but winning the White House would be extremely helpful to him. Department policy forbids the prosecution of a sitting President, effectively insulating Trump from any federal charges for another four years.

The law is less clear on whether a President can face prosecution from states while in office, but any attempt to put Trump on trial in a state case would likely be litigated in the Supreme Court. Former New York City district attorney Cyrus Vance’s efforts to subpoena Trump’s tax returns landed before the high court in 2020.

At the state level, Trump faces two criminal investigations. In Manhattan, district attorney Alvin Bragg empaneled a grand jury to investigate whether the former-President committed fraud by allegedly lying about the value of his assets in financial statements. The grand jury has since expired, however, and there are few indications that Bragg intends to bring charges. In Georgia, prosecutors in Fulton County are investigating whether Trump illegally interfered in the counting of votes by pressuring Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to “find” votes for him after the election. Just this month, Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis has subpoenaed Trump allies Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Lindsay Graham and sent letters to pro-Trump Georgia state senators warning they could be prosecuted as part of the case.

Trump faces a slew of lawsuits, both for his conduct while in office and before. In previous cases Trump’s attorneys have claimed that the Office of the President makes him immune to civil suits while sitting. That was Trump’s defense in a since-dismissed lawsuit by former Apprentice contestant Summer Zervos.

In the 1990s, Paula Jones’ suit against then-President Clinton established that Presidents do not enjoy absolute immunity. But the Zervos suit against Trump dragged on for five years before she dropped it. The case demonstrated that the Presidency can help delay civil suits, even if it’s not an insurmountable obstacle.

Trump’s most recent legal headaches stem from his role in inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection. Capitol and Washington, D.C. Metropolitan police officers have sued Trump over the physical and emotional damages they suffered during the rioting. The former-President also faces two separate suits from Democratic members of Congress. The suits accuse the President of violating their civil rights by conspiring with extremist groups such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to prevent the count of electoral votes.

E. Jean Carroll is still pursuing a case against Trump for defamation. She has accused Trump of raping her in a store in the mid 1990s and is suing over his 2019 claim that Carroll was “totally lying.” The Justice Department, under both Trump and Biden, has claimed that Trump is immune from the suit because he was “acting within the scope of his office” when he made the claims. A federal appeals court is currently weighing the Department’s arguments.

And in New York, Attorney General Letitia James is pursuing a civil investigation into whether the Trump Organization lied about the value of its assets.

The suits add to mounting pressure on Trumpworld as the Jan. 6 Committee and Justice Department investigations have heated up. A number of Trump aides have been pulled into a federal grand jury investigation into the effort to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. The investigation has yielded search warrants served on Trump campaign attorney John Eastman and Justice Department and former acting Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark.

In the face of the investigations, many in Trumpworld have hoped that former aides could face prosecution for the efforts to overturn the election instead of the former-President. In particular, Trump associates have tried to distance him from Eastman. And as Rolling Stone reported last week Trump’s legal advisors also view former-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows as a potential fall guy for the former-President’s post-election activities.

Six Sentence Sunday

whoa, it's been over a month since I posted one of these! Thank you for the tags today @ivelovedhimthroughworse and @monbons, and to everyone else who's been tagging me these past weeks <3

I took a step back from scrolling tumblr for a little bit - since my current wip (my cobb) is watford-era, I was feeling a little too influenced by other people's ideas. I feel like I'm getting back on track now, though.

I've been having a blast writing the Agatha-Simon relationship in this one - can you guess which movie they're watching here?

“It’s so creepy that he's been watching her sleep.” I don’t usually talk during movies – we don’t usually talk during movies – but this is just so ridiculous. “It’s romantic! Don’t be mean!” “You would totally be creeped out if someone snuck into your room to watch you sleep! You would definitely accuse them of plotting!” “He's just trying to protect her!” Si is laughing, though.

I also came up with a working title, Who are you in the dark, and yes it is from the Camila Cabello song. Not sure if this one is gonna stick, but it works for now.
