what brand of reusable pads/underwear would you recommend?

my cramps are absolutely dreadful and i’ve seriously contemplated switching

The store I frequent for my miscellaneous needs had two brands of period underwear, Unders by Proof and Thinx. Unders was the first one I tried—I don't really like the shape of the brief that much but it holds more blood than Thinx does from my experience. Thinx I feel more confident I'm not going to have leaks with—ironically enough after that last sentence—and I just in general like that shape a but more. Unders XS/S is a bit bigger (looser?) than Thinx for All S, so that's where that's coming from.

I never ended up trying reusable pads; but you could go either the route of getting the professional, company made ones, or buying handmade one's from an etsy (or personal website) shop. I'd recommend I believe the reddit r/clothpads on this one if it weren't for the current circumstances; I have no idea if it's open or not at this time. You could also make your own cloth pads if you're so inclined; though I didn't do much research into that myself.

My advice for period underwear is to buy one pair and see if you like the feel of it before getting more due to the price—I tried it during the tail end of my cycle. It is admittedly a little odd getting used to the feeling when you've been wearing pads (and Unders is looser on me so it's a bit nerve wracking when its not snug against you), but I've had far less leaks with cloth underwear. It also, surprisingly enough, has a way less offensive smell than what I get with disposable pads.

I do highly encourage you to bite the bullet and try. I know it's more expensive than the cost of buying just a box of pads but I cannot understate how great it is to have my period come and know that I'm only going to feel the mildest discomfort rather than wonder if I'm going to be on the ground at work this time around, sobbing and unable to move when my pain meds don't work, which has happened before, and is highly embarrassing.

It is time for another positive period post! :)

My cycle is only 24 days long, which I do find a bit short (would prefer 30 days but would also be happy with 26) - but luckily I only bleed for three days with a bit of spotting on day four.

Yesterday I was SO ready for my bleeding to start - I was tired and grumpy, and even I know the reason is that it is the last day of the cycle (because I have been tracking my cycle for the last 18 years) - I was still a bit surprised to see the blood on my toilet cloth this morning. And so I go and get my comfortable clothpads and the whole day already feels brighter than yesterday.

And I have the enormous privilege that I can work from home in the morning and only have to get out of the house in about an hour.

So I am sitting here, eating apple pie for breakfast, and later I will go out in to the world and another cycle starts today.

I do feel that my uterus is working, and my vulva feels sensitive. But there are menstruators who bleed without pain. Either by luck or because they have found effective ways to help their body to bleed without (or with less) pain.

For me that means Tai Chi every day and light stretching, it means taking Vitamin D and Magnesium and B Vitamins every day. It means cutting down on milk the days before bleeding and not eating a lot of food with histamine during menstruating.
