Based off a tik tok I just saw (by cauchjoelle) cause honestly, I probably would’ve fallen just a little more in love with my partner if they ever did this 😂 which says a lot about the people I’m attracted to but moving on!!

It’s a modern AC AU with a trans Desmond and Cis Ezio (cause it was the first thing to pop into my head when I thought of writing this out) please do correct me if anything’s wrong, or I didn’t do/say something right. This is my first proper time actually trying to write a trans character outside of just vague little implications, and I don’t wish to be rude.

But! Desmond who gets his period and he’s run out of pads cause he just forgot to grab some stuff the last time he’d gone shopping. So he goes to Ezio (cause I know for a fact that out of all of them, he’d be the one most likely to do this) and asks him to get some pads with wings.

Ezio comes home after a while, walking up to Desmond who’s sitting at their kitchen island and putting a pack of pads and a brown box in front of him.

Desmond tilts his head, blinking blankly for a moment before opening the box up. There’s wings from the fried chicken place they both love in it and while Desmond appreciates it, he also doesn’t understand why Ezio bought them.

The younger man must catch on cause he points toward the items as he speaks, “You asked for pads with wings, so I thought I would go to our favourite place.”

It takes Desmond a second to catch on but when he does he can’t help but smile, entire face going soft with adoration and small chuckle escaping him as he shakes his head, “Thank you, but this isn’t quite what I meant.”

Ezio frowns, obviously not understanding how he could’ve gotten such an obvious request wrong. Desmond stands from his chair, walking around the counter so he can pull Ezio down into a soft kiss.

When he pulls back he pulls the pack closer, still smiling as he points at the little picture on the back, “Thankfully, you still managed to get the right ones. But see these? They’re called wings on a pad. That’s what I meant.”

The younger man makes a small noise of understanding, cheeks colouring slightly as he shoots Desmond a sheepish smile, “Ah. Yes, that does make a bit more sense.”

Desmond laughs softly again, brushing fingers against the blush and pulling Ezio down just to kiss him again. It was a dumb little mistake but it made him fall just a little more in love with the man.

Davvero la focaccia a Varigotti ha toccato i trenta euro al chilo? E una frisella a Gallipoli viene spacciata a venti? E dov'è che a Ponza una pasta al sugo è proposta a 25?

Il giornalismo d'inchiesta quest'anno è scatenato alla ricerca di prezzi limite, quelli che possono valere un'ora di apertura del sito e una paginata interna del cartaceo, con i commenti della Parietti e di Al Bano.

Così i segugi delle grandi testate battono gli stabilimenti balneari di Amalfi, le panetterie di Viareggio, le pescherie di Caorle: vince chi trova lo scontrino più alto. Se poi ci sono dentro anche i famosi due euro per tagliare il toast a metà, è un vero scoop, un Gronchi rosa.

L'estate scorsa si andava a caccia di albergatori che non trovavano personale per colpa del reddito di cittadinanza (ve l'eravate già dimenticato eh?), nel 2023 invece è il turno dell'aneddotica sui prezzi pazzi in vacanza: un panzerotto a dieci euro può valere anche una promozione a caposervizio, al ritorno.

Si sa, il giornalismo funziona così, per ondate di hype (oddio, “funziona” è una parola grossa: diciamo che ci prova).

Del resto chi ha voglia di leggere dell'ennesima strage di migranti, così uguale a tutte le altre?

Chi ancora studia le mappe dell'Ucraina orientale per capire quanti campi di patate sono stati sanguinosamente conquistati dall'una o dall'altra parte?

E chi davvero arriva fino in fondo alle articolesse di Ezio Mauro su Mussolini nel 1943?

La rassegna stampa proseguirà con questo frizzante pullulare di cifre comiche ancora per una decina di giorni, quindi il tormentone si spegnerà lentamente dopo Ferragosto, com'è normale.

Poi, a settembre, chi è tornato dalle spiagge e chi non c'è mai andato smetterà di divertirsi così e si divertirà ancor meno facendo la sua solita banale spesa al supermercato sotto casa, dove l'inflazione non è aneddotica lunare ma i consueti venti o trenta centesimi in più su latte, uova, farina e via campando.

Robe che non fanno assolutamente apertura di sito, né valgono il parere della Parietti, e che quindi nessuna testata si fila minimamente.

Però, per fortuna, intanto riparte il campionato.

La generosità finta

Ho aspettato un po’ prima di scrivere di Ezio Greggio e del suo appello alla mamma di Elia. In sostanza il comico che non fa ridere, conduttore di Striscia la Notizia, che scrive libri mettendo una battuta per pagina con uno spreco notevole di carta, si è sentito in dovere di offrire soldi e sostentamento alla madre che è stata costretta a lasciare il figlio in ospedale una volta partorito.

Già qui c’è una prima stortura perché il figlio magari potrebbe essere stato concepito per una violenza e quindi la madre non se la sente di avere il figlio vicino perché le ricorderebbe quella violenza, sarebbe comprensibile.

Facciamo finta però che sia davvero a causa di una condizione di indigenza grave che la donna decide di non portare con se il bimbo appena nato, confidando nella generosità di qualcuno che voglia prendersene cura e magari pure nell’anonimato perché non ci tiene particolarmente a far sapere i propri cazzi, no?

Invece no, qualcuno ci ha tenuto a offrire il proprio aiuto perché questo bimbo ha bisogno di una “madre vera” insultando così tutte quelle madri e quei genitori che hanno adottato bambini.

Ora io mi chiedo: perché dare sostegno economico solo a questa madre? Perché non offrirlo a una di quelle tante madri che il figlio se lo è tenuto e lo cresce magari da sola e in mezzo a tante difficoltà?

Lui vuole aiutare questa madre proprio questa. La aiuta a patto che si penta, che chieda scusa, no anzi: che chieda perdono e si riprenda il figlio che potrà allevare grazie alla generosità di Ezio Greggio.

Lo sentite quanto suona male? Come le unghia su una lavagna, lo stesso disagio.

No, non vi è nulla di nobile in questo gesto, nulla di bello.

Solo la voglia di controllare una donna, di sottometterla, di costringerla a fare la madre e basta perché quello è il suo ruolo, secondo costoro.

Ditemi ora: dove sarebbe la generosità?

Oggi Repubblica è in sciopero, o meglio era in sciopero ieri quindi non esce oggi.

In sostanza, nell'incontro con i giornalisti l'azienda ha ammesso che sta smantellando se stessa: per adesso sono in vendita i quotidiani locali (quelli che restano, molti sono già stati ceduti) poi si vedrà.

Fondamentalmente i giornalisti temono che alla fine anche Repubblica sarà venduta o svenduta, come un anno fa è successo con l'Espresso.

Da tre anni, circa, il proprietario del gruppo è John Elkann, che l'ha pagato meno di Cristiano Ronaldo.

L'ha comprato dai figli di De Benedetti, a cui il padre l'aveva incautamente regalato. Ai figli però non fregava nulla di fare giornali. Allora hanno preso i soldi di Elkann per liberarsene, facendo infuriare il padre che quindi ha fondato il Domani.

Perché Elkann tre anni fa si sia preso il gruppo è ancora incerto. Lui diceva di voler portare avanti il sogno dello zio, Carlo Caracciolo, che con Scalfari fu il cofondatore del tutto. Insomma una questione di affetti familiari. Più probabile che pensasse di ottenerne qualche utilità per il resto del suo impero, insomma "influenzare" - del resto i padroni dei giornali oggi sono tali solo per questo motivo, non è che ci fanno direttamente profitti.

Quello che è certo invece è che in tre anni Elkann non ne ha azzeccata una, a iniziare dalla scelta di un direttore di centrodestra, che ovviamente ha fatto scappare firme e lettori di sinistra (Scalfari, per capirci, parlava a lettori che andavano dal partito repubblicano alla sinistra extraparlamentare, passando per sinistra Dc, Psi, Pci, Partito Radicale. Ezio Mauro portò avanti questa grande apertura con il gigantesco ombrello collettivo dell'antiberlusconismo).

Oltre al direttore di Rep., Elkann ha cambiato anche il capoazienda, insomma l'ad, mettendoci un suo amico ed ex compagno di studi, peraltro fin lì ignaro di editoria. Adesso questo ad è anche a capo della Juventus. Non è chiaro come si sdoppi, peraltro in due campi che non conosceva. Caracciolo i giornali li conosceva e li amava. De Benedetti senior anche. Forse per fare bene un prodotto devi conoscerne e amarne la fabbricazione: in generale e non solo per l'editoria.

In questi anni tutti i quotidiani o quasi hanno perso moltissime copie, si sa che i giornali sono un mercato in declino. Repubblica però è riuscita a perderne quasi il doppio degli altri.

Sul crollo reputazionale e di autorevolezza, invece, non ci sono numeri: ognuno la pensi come vuole.

In compenso a Repubblica si fa un grandissimo parlare di digitalizzazione. Un piano digitale dopo l'altro. L'idea è di vendere contenuti on line, anche staccati dalla vecchia cornice dell'acquisto di un giornale come tale (cartaceo o su tablet che sia). Probabilmente è una buona idea, almeno così ci dicono alcune "case histories" all'estero. Resta da vedere cosa c'è in questi contenuti, perché poi alla fine conta quello: se sono vendibili o meno, se gli utenti li apprezzano, se se li comprano.

Vedremo. Nell'attesa si vendono al primo che passa giornali e giornalisti, cioè si mandano via produttori di contenuti.

Appena arrivato, Elkann si è liberato di MicroMega, considerato troppo di sinistra. Poi ha venduto l'Espresso al proprietario della Salernitana, che ha già fatto fuori il suo primo direttore, Lirio Abbate, che aveva preso il posto di Damilano. Adesso l'Espresso è diventato un'emulazione meno moderna e meno smart del settimanale Oggi. Il suo editorialista di punta è diventato Maurizio Costanzo, dove prima c'era Umberto Eco. Però è impacchettato bene perché gli sono rimasti un bravo art director e una brava photo editor, oltre ad alcuni bravi giornalisti che fanno il possibile

Negli ultimi mesi si sono diffuse voci che il proprietario della Salernitana si stia per comprare anche Repubblica.

Per ora l'azienda conferma solo di non avere più "un perimetro" di testate da mantenere, restando sul vago.

Di qui lo sciopero di oggi, anzi di ieri.

Per favore non scrivete qui sotto che Repubblica è brutta, vi fa schifo etc. Intanto perché non si bastona un cane che affoga. Ma soprattutto perché è stato un grande giornale, uno dei pezzi migliori della nostra società per quarant'anni - e l'Espresso per oltre sessanta.

Per me poi sono stati giornali formativi, da lettore, fin dalla prima adolescenza. Formativi anche della coscienza civile e politica.

E' stato un onore lavorare 18 anni all'Espresso. Quando ho firmato, nel 2002, volevo rimanerci per tutta la vita.

Poi le cose cambiano. E se vuoi far ridere Dio raccontagli i tuoi progetti, come dice un proverbio yiddish.

My pride month 2023 six first

Desmond Miles: bisexual, given how much we ship him with men and how in canon he's been interested in two women (Elijah's mother and Lucy).

Malik Al-Sayf: Asexual, this guy was accused of welding the Creed and The Tenets like a shield, suggesting that he doesn't find sex for the sake of sex appealing but Secret Crusade does reveal he has a son.

Kadar Al-Sayf: Lithsexual, there is not much in the way of information for this sweet baby but given how fans portray him, I went with him liking Altaïr but not necessarily wanting those feelings reciprocated.

Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad: Demisexual, preferring to get to know someone before sex enters the picture. Weather it's Maria Thorpe in canon, Malik whom he's known for years or Desmond/Vega in Eagle of Alamut Altaïr wants to know them before sex happens.

Ezio Auditore: Pansexual, the man usually at least until brotherhood is with a different woman. And by the end of two has been romantically involved with Cristina, Caterina, and Rosa, nevermind how many courtians. Then nevermind the fact that we ship him with Leonardo and Desmond.

Speaking of Leonardo Da Vinci: Homosexual, I think this one is historical fact. The reason he is well known to Paola is that he a) has pertook of some off screen male courtians or b) he's a good wingman.

Rosa: Sapiosexual: Rosa likes someone with more than two braincells to bang together. She fell for Ezio Auditore mind you. A man who is highly intelligent and has studied before becoming an assassin.

Maria Auditore: Straight and Cis, also warning heavy topic in bound, she has survived losing her lifetime spouse Giovanni Auditore and very likely having been raped. The thing that struck me is her silence. Sure the loss of her husband and two of her four children could do that but something Annetta said caught my attention "She’s in shock. They… When she resisted…". That seemed weird to me. So either they beat her, likely, or raped her, more likely. But to circle back to happier topics, she is supportive of her children and thus an ally.

DLC would be cool, but I think it would still be the same thing that they're doing: treating female characters (and thus women as a whole) as second fiddle.

And even when female characters do get to take the main stage, they have to share it! Usually extremely unevenly!

Aya, as you said, was meant to be the protagonist of origins but was sidelined for Bayek. Most of the time that you're playing as her, you're actually playing as a boat.

Evie and Jacob were supposed to share the spotlight evenly, but he ended up with 3 times as many missions as her. And there were diegetic, lyrical songs about the targets in the game, but all of them were for Jacob's targets! None for Evie's, unless you count the one for Roth, who they both fought.

Odyssey and Valhalla technically have canon fe.ale protagonists, but with a gender choice, and all or much of the advertising was for the male character.

Gender choices that don't even work in context. The explanations they gave us were. Just ... Bad...

The "the girl is the canon character" thing feels a bit like Rowling's tweets about Dumbledore and Hermione. Diet Allyship: all the fanfare of diversity in art with none of the commitment!

And the gender choice would be really cool with a Little rework. Like for the protagonist of that modern day game that people have been clamoring for. Or a genderfluid\genderqueer character.

The latter could even bring the disguise system from liberation in.

Or they could break off the multiplayer functions they had and make a fortnite-esc game with customizable or a variety of characters. In fact, weren't there whispers of them doing just that?

But nope. Cis men only, or weird, contrived reasons for why the machine that reads your DNA like a book has decided to make it a choose-your-own-adventure story.

Ho dovuto percorrere stanze immaginarie, per necessità. Perché nella mia vita ho dei momenti in cui entro in una stanza che non mi è molto simpatica detto sinceramente. È una stanza in cui mi ritrovo bloccato per lunghi periodi, una stanza che diventa buia, piccolissima eppure immensa e impossibile da percorrere. Nei periodi in cui sono lì ho dei momenti dove mi sembra che non ne uscirò mai. Ma anche lei mi ha regalato qualcosa, mi ha incuriosito, mi ha ricordato la mia fortuna. Mi ha fatto giocare con lei. Si, perché la stanza è anche una poesia.

Fine, Loki. Quite often I don't understand people.

Like why is it okey to call a cis woman a homophobe 'cause she ships many male gay couples. Like Erik and Nadir. Loki and Thor (not brothers! Specially not in norse myths!). Loki and Mobius... which is not really my cup of tea but I don't mind. Ooh, Louis and Lestat!

Not that I feel like a cis woman.

Does it take something away from other ships? Is that why people get so mad at each other?

Ezio and Leonardo (such an adorable couple) doesn't take anything away from people who ship Ezio with Sofia (so cute together) ⚘ (tulip should be white).

Erik loves Christine but is absolutely head over heels in love with Nadir in another multiverse. Win win.

I see no problems. I do see a problem in a ship that has problematic "moral ground". Like when you are supposed to ship a liked character with a narcissists who abuses them and that's supposed to be cool. Like shipping Susan Kay's Erik with Javert from the same book with the same background story (I don't think anyone has).

No problem if you're not writing a love story but want to express something else like the horrors of domestic abuse. If you add sex scenes in the Poetic Edda between Loki and Thor but change nothing else that doesn't make it a love story. It's still pretty much what it was; a tale of how life and the worlds came to be and how it will all end as it is alsova tale of a god's down fall and how that is the spark for the inferno which brings down the very gods.

I've said it before but I do think that if a person writes a love story between let's say Loki and Mobius and rewrites the characters and situations they are in in a way that's portrayes them in a loving relationship, that a good ship. They made it work. That's what a ship is. It's love and freedom to break free of the bonds of the original story.

I for one love love and it's nice to read good stories about it. I also like interesting characters and deep relationships. Xena and Gabrielle. Erik and Nadir. Louis and Lestat. It's already in the original. With the last two it's slightly fucked up but balanced... fairly balanced at least. With Louis and Lestat it's pretty much "I slap you, you slap me" but they are vampires. With Erik and Nadir it's "I'm impossible but you can't harm me, yes you are but you can't hurt me either".

...

So what is a ship?

Love is nice.

Seeing the other part of the relationship smack and slap the other around physically or mentally who remains passive, that's domestic abuse or simply violence.

The difference is huge.

In fact they have nothing to do with each other.

It's like compairing a person who's rooting for love to a homophobe.
